Chapter 3: Opening the Yin and Yang (2/2)
by Jessie@AFNCCAfter Xiang Que finished his rant, he continued up the direct road to the Chen family mansion. He didn’t say another word, his fingers constantly moving in his sleeves, and most of the time, his brows were furrowed together.
When they reached the entrance of the Chen family mansion, Xiang Que suddenly stopped, pointed at the two red doors, and said, “The mirror is broken.”
“Broken?” Chen Sanjin’s heart skipped a beat. He looked up and saw that the mirror was still hanging there, perfectly intact, with no cracks.
This mirror had been there since the Chen family established themselves at this location. It hung on the door, and before his father died, he had repeatedly told Chen Sanjin that the mirror must never crack, break, or fall off. No matter what happened in the family, the mirror must always remain intact.
Because of this, after Chen Sanjin took charge, he had cameras installed on both sides and even assigned people to guard it, to ensure nothing would go wrong.
The Chen family had many strange rules passed down from the previous generation, all taught verbally, with no written record. Although Chen Sanjin was confused by some of these rules, no one dared to ignore them.
Because, whenever a new family head took over, they would always be reminded that the family’s success was closely tied to these rules.
But at this moment, the mirror didn’t seem to be a problem to Chen Sanjin. It was still perfectly fine on the door. He looked at Xiang Que suspiciously, who squinted his eyes and said, “Get someone to take it down, and you’ll know.”
Chen Sanjin nodded and called to the servant waiting inside, “Get a ladder.”
A moment later, two people brought a ladder to the door. One of them climbed up, and as soon as his hand touched the mirror, it suddenly shattered and fell to the ground with a crash. The man was so scared that he fell off the ladder and turned pale, stammering, “Mr. Chen, I… I just…”
“It’s not your fault. It’s okay.” Chen Sanjin waved his hand. It really wasn’t the man’s fault. He clearly saw that as soon as the man’s hand touched the mirror, it shattered. The guy hadn’t practiced any iron palm techniques, so how could he break it with just a touch?
Xiang Que didn’t speak. He simply walked into the Chen family mansion. Chen Sanjin followed, asking, “The mirror’s broken. Sir, my father always told me that it couldn’t be damaged.”
“Get a new one that looks exactly the same and hang it up for now.”
“Huh?” Chen Sanjin was a bit confused.
Xiang Que said, “Just get a replacement for now. After we solve the problem, I’ll take care of the original one for you.”
“Ah, okay…” Chen Sanjin was still a little puzzled.
Once inside the mansion, Xiang Que didn’t speak again. For the next two hours, he silently walked around the estate with his hands behind his back, almost covering the entire yard. From the main house in the front to the artificial mountain, garden, pond, and pavilion in the back, wherever he could walk, he went.
“Man, this is exhausting.” Xiang Que mumbled, “Old Chen, why does your family need all this? So tiring. Is it just because you have too much money to burn? You’re really something else.”
Chen Sanjin just hummed and replied, “Yep, exactly. We have too much money to burn.”
