Night of the Soulless Heathens – 98

#98. The Tribe of Arael 8
A whistle was heard from afar. The guards of Count Lantaric’s barracks blew their whistles and a commotion began to arise in the camp.
Someone had launched an attack on the Count’s camp.
“Ugh?! What the? Are you sure that this is your doing?”
Yarabin was surprised at the sight and asked Azadin.
“Calm down! Whether it was his doing or not we’re dealing with him now!”
Nefty was not fooled and aimed her sword at Azadin.
“Will it be hard?”
Azadin drew his sword. But Nephthy knew Azadin well when she saw him from the smell of blood and the twisted lips that had been caused by the pain.
This guy is injured and all the jokes he’s making now are just empty boasts! Even if he wasn’t injured there’s no reason for her to lose!
“I don’t want to kill Arael’s younger brother either but I can’t help it.”
Nephthys struck Azadin’s neck with a lightning-quick thrust. Azadin stepped back and tried to pull his sword away.
An action taken with the conviction that he was superior to the female Nephthy in terms of brute force. However at that moment Nephthy switched to a wrist stab.
Induce kicking and stab the wrist!
Azadin had no choice but to take another step back and at that moment Nefty threw a dagger with her left hand.
-Kang!
Daggers clashed in the air. Azadin also stepped back and threw his dagger. They both acted similarly as if no one would think they were messengers but Nephthy confirmed that her prediction was correct.
‘You’re a man with little strength. Are you badly injured?’
Azadin’s strength seems to be lacking as the daggers thrown by Azadin and Nephthy bounced off each other. Nephthy returned to his four sides and continued stabbing him.
-Papak!
Azadin had anticipated the coming battle and was wearing chainmail but the blades grazed his armor and tore the chains apart sending them flying over the walls.
“Azadin!”
Medium tried to help but Yaravin blocked her path. As Zibek drew his sword Yaravin swung his hooked scythe in front of his battle cicle aiming for his neck.
-Cock!
The sword of Zibek and the cicle of Yaravin are entangled.
“You’re quite the knight!”

Yaravin pushed back at Zibek unleashing an explosive barrage of attacks.
“Oh what should I do?”
Midiam put an arrow on his bow but couldn’t shoot. The attack and defense between Azadin and Nephthy were so fast and fierce that even a sharpshooter who could hit the first arrow wouldn’t dare shoot. But…
‘uh?’
Azadin approached from behind Yarabin.
“ah!”
Nephthy jabs Azadin’s back but Azadin is faster. And then another dagger flies in. Azadin turns his back to Nephthy and jabs backward.
Nephthys struck the dagger with his sword without thinking…
“Huh?!”
With a loud noise Nephthy stepped back. Her sword cracked and her hands shook. It was a heavy blow incomparable to the one just now.
If Nephthy hadn’t turned her head quickly Azadin’s thrown dagger would have struck her sword and pierced her head.
‘What kind of strength does a wounded person have?’
What was even more surprising was what happened next.
“It’s surprisingly light?”
Azadin lightly lifted Yaravin and threw him out of the watchtower.
“…?!”
Yaravin is a large man even if he is not as strong as Kahsan. The messenger clan is trained and trained to show incredible strength but how can they throw Yaravin like a stone?
“…?!”
What was surprising was that both Zibek and Medium and Ismail were the same.
They obviously knew that Azadin was injured but when did he start moving around so calmly as if his injury had healed?
“Well at this point the other person must be in an awkward position right Ismail!”
“yes.”
“Deal with the foresight birds hovering in the sky.”
“All right.”
Ismail was fascinated by the claims of the Arael tribe. Coming from a servant family of the Etar clan he could not help but be drawn to the Arael clan that advocated a new order. Those born into servant families are dedicated to the families they serve for generations.
Even if you have the ability to become a messenger if a child from the same family comes out to serve you you have to give him a high evaluation score. Even if you rationally like the person who serves you you can’t even dare to dream of that love coming true.
If you become extremely successful as a messenger you may be adopted as a son or marry into a noble family lower in the line of succession but that is only if you are very lucky and most servants end up just being servants.
In other words it cannot be said that Ismail’s future is bright if he continues to be loyal to Midiam as he is now.
Although he had reached the point of becoming a servant the entire Aragasa clan was shaken by Arael’s rebellion. So he was internally weighing Nefty and Azadin but Azadin won.
‘I was just watching and trying to side with the winning side but I didn’t expect this guy to win. But he’s amazing. How can he be so dominant even with that injury?’
Ismail cast a suspicious glance at Azadin and fired an arrow with magic towards the seer in the sky.
“Okay then Nephthys.”
As Zebek and Azadin approached Nephthy realized that he no longer had a chance of winning. He had underestimated Azadin from the beginning. Above all Azadin’s movements were smooth. Could it be that there was no sign of his injuries?
At first when I was fighting with her she acted like she was injured but soon she stopped pretending and showed her true colors.
“Tch! I got fooled! Let’s just wait and see!”
Nephthy launched herself out of the fortress then scraped the fortress walls with her sword and hook before landing on the ground with great speed. Jibek’s eyes widened as he watched her.
“That’s really amazing. How did you get it this high?”

He jumped from a height that would make a normal person look like a piece of cake without any trouble. But then Azadin grabbed his cloak.
-Wedge!
An arrow flew from the ground towards Jibek who had stuck his head out of the fortress. The arrows were fired by other messengers waiting below. They had predicted that he would stick his head out to check if Nephthy had jumped down.
The messenger clan that predicted that and fired the arrows are surprising and Azadin who predicted the battle pattern of his own people and pulled Jibek is also surprising.
“Thank you. This is really refreshing. By the way how did you get injured? Are you feeling okay?”
“that….”
At that moment a trapdoor under the wall opened and a human head popped out. It was Shati the agent the Nagas had infiltrated Salasma.
“Hey warm-blooded animals! The undead army has appeared behind the Count! It looks like they’re after the New King’s Book. Shouldn’t we run away?”
“Really? That’s faster than I expected.”
Azadin approached Shati.
“Are you okay warm-blooded animal? I wonder if the Cobra Queen’s magic is working well for you.”
“Thanks to you.”
“uh?”
Jibek who was listening was surprised.
“Could it be that you received magic from the Kurt clan?”
“yes.”
“But how is that….”
“It’s a long story but to put it simply that woman has no choice but to cooperate with me and the green magic of the Kurt tribe is the power to increase the metabolism of life. It can speed up the healing of injuries that would take a month by about a week.”
“Then I guess I can’t say my physical condition is perfect.”
“Yes. Besides it’s a magic that was made to fit Naga’s body so it doesn’t seem to work well with me but it’s enough to charm Nephthy.”
“Then why did you attack the Count’s army just now?”
“That’s because the seal of the New King’s Book was released.”
“yes?”
“If you just carry around the Shinwangjinseo flies using tracking magic will chase you…”
Jibek knew that too. He had seen Jecht use magic to track down the copy of the New King’s Book. But didn’t Azadin use the Ghost Knight instead since he couldn’t be tracked by that?
“I released the seal because I thought Count Lantaric wouldn’t listen to me.”
In other words Azadin deliberately broke the seal on the Book of the New King in order to break free from the siege by Count Lantaric.
“What a reckless….”
Doing something like this while being chased by Ject? Isn’t that too bold? But it’s still too early to be surprised.
“Okay shall we try it then?”
“What are you talking about?”
Zibek was terrified at what more Azadin could do in this situation.
*********
“Damn I let my guard down thinking you were injured.”
Kahsan smiled as Nefty grumbled.
“Isn’t it praising our opponents to say that we lost because we let our guard down to Aragasa?”
Kassan too was thrown away after letting his guard down believing in Azadin’s usual notoriety. It was actually good for Kassan to see others being thrown away by Azadin and suffering the same fate as he had.
“This is no laughing matter. Let’s go back to the Count’s unit. What’s going on over there?”
As Nephthys walked forward suddenly a rustling noise began to be heard behind them.
-Kkirik kirik….
The fortress gate opened and the horse the Kerim goat and Azadin’s party came out.
“What? What are you trying to do now Azadin!”
“What is it?”
Azadin answered Nephthys question.
“To escape and rescue the villagers the Count is holding captive.”
“what?!”
Nephthy took up the bow. However people were coming out of the fortress and Azadin Zibek and Azadin’s servants were also there so the opponent was by no means easy. In addition Azadin’s attitude did not seem hostile.
“So how about we have a brief truce? Even though you call me your substitute I’ll give you a copy of the Shinwangjinseo.”
“…?!”
“Do you have a copy of the New King’s Book?”
“okay.”
Azadin took out the Book of the New King and showed it to me. Although the pages were made of ordinary paper they were emitting a soft magical light and I could feel an endless power.
“This is…..”
“It’s true!”
Nefty and Kahsan who were watching groaned.
“What are you going to do? Are you going to agree to a ceasefire? Or are you going to fight?”
“….”
From Nephthy’s point of view there is no guarantee that they will win the fight against Azadin and his group in this situation.
‘Besides this guy is Arael’s younger brother.’
If you kill Azadin you will have to bear the burden of killing Arael’s own blood relative but it is strange that you do not accept a peace proposal from an opponent you have no guarantee of defeating and who offers a copy of the New King’s Book as a gift.
“Okay I’ll accept the ceasefire. But if the Count says anything then who knows.”
“Okay then take it.”
Azadin willingly handed over a copy of the New King’s Book. Midiam and Ismail clicked their tongues as they looked at it.
‘Handing over a copy of the New King’s Book…’
‘What kind of selfish act is this? If the elders and heads of the clan see it it’s an act of treason for making a deal with traitors.’
Although Ismail was shaken by the persuasion of the Arael tribe he knows very well how dangerous and irresponsible Azadin’s actions are. If this fact is later revealed he will have nothing to say even if he is held accountable as a traitor.
In fact wasn’t Azadin dismissed from his post as a messenger because he might have joined hands with Arael? And yet he handed over the New King’s Book?
‘Even if this is a trap isn’t it too much? You have a lot of courage.’
I thought I was used to being around Azadin but there was always something about this man that surprised me.
