Night of the Soulless Heathens – 89

#89. Black Arrow 2
“omg?”
“….”
Donair and the thieves were confused when they saw the figure emerging from the bushes.
Isn’t that a knight in golden armor walking towards you?
It was the judge Jecht who had subdued them.
“Ah no Sir Jecht. This is…..”
“You found a copy of the New King’s Book. Well done. Please hand it over to me. Or would you rather let me try it out by falling for the temptation of a woman?”
Ject asked with a smile.
“Would you like to check whether the judge’s reputation is an illusion or not?”
“….”
The thieves were confused.
‘Aren’t we immortal now?’
‘But the one who made us immortal was that man….’
‘uh.’
The thieves gulped as they looked at Lord Jecht.
“Please hand it over. A copy of the New King’s Letter.”
“I will do that.”
Donair unable to withstand Jecht’s pressure handed over a copy of the New King’s Book. Jecht accepted it and smiled bitterly.
“I’m a little disappointed in you all. I thought you would handle this without getting your hands dirty as a Paladin.”
“yes?”
“Oh no that’s….”
“Please do not leave any witnesses. Then I will go first. I will meet you at the headquarters of the Knights of Lantaric.”
But at that very moment!
-Wedge!
An arrow flew towards Jett.

“no!”
It was more than just the arrows aimed at Donair. Four arrows were aimed at Jecht from all directions at the same time.
Flowers birds wind moon yellow cranes and white cranes.
Arrows flew in including the two arrows with magic attached to them.
“hmm?”
But Jecht lightly shook his hand. At that moment a silvery ray of light shot out from Jecht’s fingertips and the flying arrows exploded in the air.
“You have some interesting archery skills. Are you a member of the Herald Clan?”
“okay!”
A girl emerged from the bushes. A medium stepped forward with an arrow on her bow. To everyone’s surprise she stood proudly chest out and glared at Lord Jecht.
“You are a knight but you join hands with a group of bandits and kill innocent people. You have no shame!”
“Hahaha this is really cheeky little girl. Are you a member of the Herald Clan lecturing me a knight of the King’s Church?”
“Of course! I am Midiam Etar! I am the one who carries the voice of the Emperor! The vulgar call us soulless but aren’t you the ones who truly have no soul?”
Medium said so and aimed his bow at Jett.
“You are a corrupted and cruel bandit and yet you call yourself a knight! How impudent! I will punish you on behalf of the Emperor!”
“Hahaha! How cute.”
Even though he was being pointed at by a bow Zect was not nervous at all and instead watched Medium’s antics as if he found them amusing. He was showing interest in Medium’s deliberately exaggerated voice and actions.
‘Okay I got it!’
Medium fired his bow. At the same time Ismail who had been moving up the tree swooped down from the sky with his sword in hand and aimed for Lord Jecht.
“You’re cute.”
As Ject Sir spread his hands silver flashes flew towards Medium and Ismail respectively.
-Kang!
Ismail’s sword broke into seven pieces as something collided with it and the arrow fired by Midiam exploded in the air. And…
-puck!
Something pierced through Medium’s body.
“Ugh?!”
Only then did Medium discover what had pierced his body. It was a needle with a thin thread.
‘What the heck! A needle… went through my body?’
Because it is so thin even though it goes through the stomach and pierces the body only a little pain is felt. However the thread has penetrated the body.
“Don’t move rashly. If I just put a little more force on the thread….”
“Ahh!”
Medium screamed as a sudden burning pain surged through his abdomen and into his entire body.
“Medium!”
A flustered Ismail tried to jump at Lord Jecht but he sent the needle and thread flying again.
-The flowers birds wind and moon at dusk!
As soon as Ismail dodged the thread flying towards his head the arum tree was pierced with a dull noise. The needle had pierced the arum tree. And…
“Ugh!”
Let’s lightly shake the thread.

-Wheein.
The thread vibrated and at the same time the tree exploded and broke in the middle.
“ah!”
Medium was horrified at the sight. If Zect did that now that he was pierced by Zect’s thread and needle Medium would be destroyed without even leaving a corpse behind.
Inflicting pain on Medium is just a way to control his power so as not to kill her but if Jecht wants he can just shatter Medium into pieces at any time.
“omg.”
Even the thieves who were watching stuck out their tongues.
“This is the city judge.”
“oh my god.”
The thieves were confident because they had acquired a body that could withstand arrows. However seeing the power that Lord Jecht displayed it was obvious that they would be no match for him even if they attacked him with such a body.
“shit!”
Ismail tried to aim for an opening while shooting arrows but when Jecht shook the string a shock occurred in the air and the arrows shattered in midair. Even the slightest touch of the string caused the steel-tipped arrows to crumble.
-puck!
In the end Ismail was also hit by the needle.
“Ahhhh!”
Ismail screamed as the needle pierced his arm. The needle flew up into a tall tree and wrapped around its branches causing Ismail’s arms to rise into the air and his feet to lift into the air.
Unlike Medium who had both feet on the ground Ismail was hanging in the air and his wound was about to tear as his weight was applied to the thread. Ismail panicked quickly grabbed the thread and the wound with his hand to prevent his forearm from being torn. However the wound on the thread was torn and blood flowed along the thread.
“This is…..”
Ismail and Medium were both subdued by Jecht in an instant.
*********
It seemed that Zect had no intention of killing Ismail and Medium but only of subduing them.
Is this the composure of an absolute strong person?
No matter what Ismail or Midiam did they did not pose any threat or hindrance to him so he looked at them with a tolerant gaze like a parent watching a child’s antics.
‘This guy is weird. He’s crazy.’
Why would a guy like that just stand by and watch a group of bandits trample on innocent civilians?
Medium bit his lower lip as he watched the jet approaching him.
“You are still a young boy or girl but you have great spirit. It would be a shame to keep you as a member of the messenger clan so how about becoming my disciple from now on?”
“I appreciate the offer but I must decline. The proud daughter of Ethar cannot beg for her life to become the disciple of a dog!”
“Is that so?”
Another needle and thread flew in and pierced Medium’s thigh.
“Huh!”
“The spirited messenger clan is good but there’s no need to keep them both alive. I’ll just keep one of them as a collectible. So who will live and who will die?”
When Zect asked that question both Medium and Ismail’s eyes lit up. Zect was once again amazed at how their fighting spirit did not waver even when they were in danger of death.
“I guess this is impossible to convince on its own. If that’s the case then maybe you should touch his brain a little….”
Then another arrow flew in.
“Useless thing!”
Jet fired the needle without looking back but the moment the arrow and the needle collided something strange happened.
-Ting!
The arrow bounced off the needle and flew straight back.
“hmm?!”
As the arrow flew near the surprised Zect’s palm and exploded the tension of the thread that was binding Ismail and Medium disappeared allowing Ismail to land on the ground again.
“Huh?”
Zect spread out his hands. The spool in his hand was shaking. His hand was shaking from having just deflected an arrow. The shaking soon subsided but the opponent was no pushover.
At that moment Midiam and Ismail were freed from the chains. Azadin had swung his sword and cut the chains that were binding Midiam and Ismail.
“Azadin!”
“You came.”
Even Ismail who had been dissatisfied with Azadin could not be happier at this moment.
“Well done Midiam Ismail. I am proud of you.”
Azadin praised Midiam and Ismail. It seemed that he had heard that Midiam had shown the spirit of a messenger to attract Jecht’s attention.
“On the other hand the author called Judge Jecht is just bullying children. Does the King’s Church have no dignity?”
“That’s interesting. This time you decided to charge at me instead of running away messenger?”
Zect laughed at Azadin for avoiding him so far.
‘Surely Azadin was reluctant to see this judge.’
Both Midiam and Ismail now realized why Azadin had been avoiding the Judge. Azadin who had been running away from the Judge until now responded calmly.
“The world is in chaos so I held back because I was afraid that killing someone who could be considered a judge would only worsen the chaos. Even people like you are useful when dealing with the Kurts or monsters.”
“ha ha ha.”
“But it’s a bit much to harass civilians or children.”
“That boy and girl are probably already parents of one or two children in a region where early marriage is common. I don’t think they should be accused of torturing a child do they?”
“What do I know? The customs of other people’s neighborhoods.”
“If you ignore the customs of other cultures you will not hear good things about them.”
“Then in a town where they hold early funerals you are already at an age where you should be lying in a coffin. Don’t you want to die right now and personally honor the local customs?”
“…Is there such a place? Where?”
“Ah anyway it exists. It exists.”
Azadin made a fuss and signaled to Midiam and Ismail.
“I’ll take care of him so you lead the people and run away.”
“yes?!”
“You want to face the judge alone?”
“okay.”
Azadin said so and flew into the forest.
“Why did you make such a cool appearance and then run away?”
As Jett was being dumbfounded an arrow flew towards his face. Startled Jett turned his head to dodge but the arrow also changed direction in the air and flew towards the direction he was avoiding like a fish in a rapid stream.
-Bam!
The arrow slid against Jecht’s armor leaving a large wound on it. The arrowhead was so strong that it tore through the armor.
“The armor saved my life.”
Azadin grumbled.
“I’m sorry about that.”
Jecht clicked his tongue as he realized that Azadin’s strategy was more tricky than he had expected.
*********
“amazing.”
The Mediums were amazed by Azadin’s archery skills which had instantly shot down the needle of the Jecht that had been causing them to fall. Ismail grumbled as he cauterized his wound.
“Isn’t that just using a steel bow? When I grow up I can do that much… No if I use a black steel arrow even now….”
“Is Ismail always dissatisfied with Azadin?”
“In the first place wasn’t it because you were strangely influenced by that man that you didn’t run away from the judge and instead confronted him head on which is how you ended up like this?”
“But you were praised right?”
“….”
That’s exactly the problem.
Medium originally did not take other people’s recognition or praise seriously. As the daughter of the Etar bloodline there were many people who wanted to look good to her so she soon dismissed people’s praise as flattery or a matter of course.
But I’m so influenced by Azadin that I speak like that act like that and am happy to be praised by him. What annoys me the most is…
‘I felt a little happy when that guy praised me…’
That made me so unbearably angry.
