    #87. The Brass Knight 7

    “Ject is a wonder.”

As he passed through the forest Azadin felt the curse pressing against his skin.

Instead of having eyes he had a special way of looking at the world and with that vision he could see the black magic of the curse flying towards him. It was clear that Lord Jecht and his wraith knights were pursuing Azadin.

“Oh my goodness. My skin feels tingly. Well thanks to that I know where it is.”

Azadin stopped his mountain goat as he sensed the presence of the spectral knight targeting him.

If we stay this far apart others won’t get involved. Thinking so Azadin took out his cheap weapons from his saddle and laid them out on the ground. He filled his quiver with arrows and prepared some extra by tucking them into the leather strap on his thigh.

    “Come on.”

At that moment a monster appeared through the bushes. It was an unknown beast that ran on all fours with long arms and legs.

Azadin could tell that it was the Wraith Knight Gazrek by the black magic power emanating from it and the familiar cursed mark. It was so grotesquely mutated that even without Azadin’s special eyesight it would have been impossible to tell that it was the original Lord Gazrek.

    “oh my god….”

Azadin was horrified to see Lord Gazrek twisted by the curse.

This is no ordinary phantom knight. Powerful black magic swirls within Lord Gazrek. Are you saying that the paladins brought him here?

    “Ugh!”

Azadin drew his bow. Lord Gazrek charged at Azadin with his head covered by his forearm…

    -ping!

The arrow fired by Azadin changed direction freely in the air like a fish cutting through rapids and struck Gazrek’s foot cutting off his big toe.

Sir Gazrek now as big as a giant bull loses his balance and rolls on the ground.

    “good!”

Azadin picked up an axe from the weapons he had thrown on the ground and lunged forward. At that moment Lord Gazrek swung his arm. The broken sword seemed to cut through his body but Azadin stopped dead in his tracks as he lunged forward.

-The flowers birds wind and moon are like a zirangi kajas!

The other messengers used illusions using magic and thoroughly used physical techniques.

Azadin parried Gazrek’s attack and swung his axe in a wide arc slamming him into the elbow before launching himself forward and spinning around swinging his axe again with incredible force.

The axe that had been stuck in his arm spun out and accelerated with terrifying force striking Gazrek in the head splitting his skull and severing his cervical vertebrae and collarbone.

    “Kaaaak!”

Although Gazrek was mortally wounded he swung his hand at Azadin to exchange blows. However Azadin threw away the axe embedded in Gazrek’s body and stepped back easily dodging the attack and picking up his shortsword from the ground.

    “where!”

He swung his shortsword at the attacking Gazrek cutting off his finger then unleashed his sword and stabbed him again in the body. He then stepped back and picked up his weapon. This time it was a short spear and Azadin drove that one into Lord Gazrek’s knee as well.

    “Kurrrrrr!”

The wraith knight Sir Gazrek cursed and swung his broken sword and swung his arms at Azadin. But Azadin who was already unable to walk was not there to take Gazrek’s attack. It was then.

    “Chain of Light!”

A rope of pure white light wrapped around Azadin. It was just a force without mass so Azadin was able to free himself but another caster cried out.

    “Chain of Light!”

The second order bound Azadin. The first was a female voice the second a male voice.

    “Huh!”

Sir Gazrek’s attack flies towards Azadin.

    -Tupac!

Azadin’s body bounced off and rolled around on the ground before getting up. Lord Gazrek’s attack was terrifyingly powerful but Azadin got up right away and caught his breath.

    “Grrrrr!”

Horrible worms wriggled around in Gazrek’s body. Countless worms not earthworms were wriggling around connecting the wounds that Azadin had cut. Complete repair was impossible but he had patched them up enough that they wouldn’t rattle.

    “It’s terrible.”

As Azadin gasped at the sight those who had cast divine magic on him appeared.

    “Father’s enemy!”

    “….”

Following behind Lord Gazrek were two knights on horseback: Maya Bishop Salasma’s chief steward and Lord Xibek Prince Kozel’s swordsmanship instructor.

Azadin looked at them with a bitter smile.

    “Your father is over there?”

“You killed my father and now you dare to insult me in front of my face!?”

“I’m sorry about that. Even though he was a knight who killed civilians I didn’t want to insult my father in front of my daughter. But who is insulting your father’s death right now?”

“Shut up! Don’t insult my father! My father would never kill civilians for no reason! How dare you frame my father! I will kill you so that my father can rest in peace!”

An enraged Maya leapt at Azadin.

    “My Lord Maya!”

Jibek tried to stop him but it was no use.

The reason Maya confidently rushed in was because Azadin who had been thrown back by Gazrek’s attack was groaning and covering his body and he did not look like he was in a position to fight.

It is clear that one or both of his arms or ribs have been broken. So I want to kill the author quickly and free Gazrek no my father.

With that in mind Maya hurriedly jumped in and attacked Azadin with a spear from the horse. However…

    “Welcome!”

Azadin skillfully used the hem of his cloak to block Meiya’s spear then he climbed up like flowing water and hung on the back of Meiya’s saddle. Before he knew it Meiya’s neck was in Azadin’s hands.

    “Oh no…”

Jibek clicked his tongue as he looked at Meiya who had become a hostage all of a sudden. Meiya was more skilled in magic than swordsmanship so they had discussed in advance that if anything happened Jibek would do the close combat while Meiya would provide support from behind with magic.

But when Azadin provoked her Maya got excited and jumped in without saying anything.

‘Your acting skills are amazing. You rolled on the ground after being attacked by Sir Gazrek… You flew yourself to offset the impact.’

How dare you provoke Maya by pretending to be hurt on such a topic.

Jibek had already seen Azadin’s skills but seeing him again he was truly strong and experienced.

“You’ve lost your cool Lord Maya. You know who’s insulting your own father!”

Azadin spoke to the easily captured Maya but she had no intention of talking to him.

“Hah! Kill me you evil pagan!”

“Why should I throw away this good shield?”

Azadin saw Lord Gazrek charging from behind and turned his reins to thrust Meiya into his attack. Lord Gazrek then stepped back in surprise. He did not recognize her as his daughter. The one controlling Lord Gazrek had placed a condition on him not to attack the knights of the King’s Church.

    “Stop it.”

    Sir Jibek spoke to Azadin.

“Sir Zibek I have admired you and I am disappointed.”

    “yes?”

Maya was surprised when Azadin pretended to know Jibek. Judging from Lord Jibek’s attitude it seemed like these two knew each other before.

“We are just bait now. The bandits have already turned back to follow you.”

“Hmm? You’ve joined hands with a group of thieves? I didn’t expect much from the King’s Church so I thought I wouldn’t be disappointed but I’m still disappointed.”

“Sir Jecht cast a dark spell on them. No not simple necromancy… but the power of the Nether.”

    “….”

When Azadin heard that he realized that the situation was truly dangerous.

“As a knight of the King’s Church can you tolerate that?”

“The Inquisitors are all well-versed in black magic. If you don’t know your enemy you can’t fight.”

“Then you know you’ve crossed the line. I held the funeral for this Lord Gazrek. It must have been Lord Jecht who rose again as a phantom knight…”

When Azadin said that Maya who was being held by him stomped her feet and retorted.

    “Lies! Lies!”

“Isn’t that what you want to believe? Because you have to believe that to continue as a knight.”

“Sir Ji Jibek! I don’t care so attack!”

“No. What the man said is true.”

    “yes?”

“It is true that Lord Gazrek massacred civilians and that his funeral had already taken place when he was discovered. It was Lord Jecht’s magic that made him a Ghost Knight.”

“That’s ridiculous. Are you even insulting my father’s honor? My father massacred innocent people for no reason?”

“There was a reason. An embarrassing reason…”

    “then….”

Azadin released his grip on Meiya’s neck and turned his horse around by grabbing the reins. Meiya’s horse charged towards Lord Gazrek but he was unable to fight back due to the ban that forbade him from attacking paladins.

    “Borrow a sword!”

Azadin drew his sword from the hilt of Meiya’s sword and swung it horizontally decapitating Lord Gazrek. The head already weakened by Azadin’s axe flew off easily.

    “Whoa!”

Ignoring Maya’s screams Azadin drove his sword vertically into the severed neck and kicked it with his horse completely pinning Lord Gazrek to the ground.

As the axes and spears Azadin had placed against his flesh tore at it Lord Gazrek finally fell silent.

    “Eww! This bastard!”

Maya cried as she looked at the corpse of Lord Gazrek who had been in a terrible state. It was a feat achieved through the combination of the speed of the galloping horse and Azadin’s brute strength but it was also because Maya who was riding the same horse did not resist. If she had struggled even Azadin would not have been able to cut off Lord Gazrek’s head so cleanly.

‘Contrary to what you say you yourself know that what Nana Jibek says is true.’

Azadin understood the complex feelings that even Maya herself could not explain in words.

“So Sir Jibek what are you going to do?”

    “Release Lord Maya.”

“Hmm. Is that all you have to say? Tell me about the bandits.”

“Sir Jecht cast a spell on them and ordered them to retrieve a copy of the Book of the New King. They assumed it had been taken by runaway slaves so they sent you on a detour leaving you with Sir Gazrek.”

“Then I don’t have time to do this.”

Azadin dismounted from Lord Maya’s horse. He released her without taking her hostage or breaking or harming her anywhere.

“What are you going to do? Are you going to turn a blind eye to the bandits and monsters harming the civilians?”

    Then Maya shouted in anger.

“Those who cooperate in leaking copies of the New King’s Book are not considered innocent people….”

“Hmm. So if a civilian who was captured by a group of bandits escapes and is suffering and takes a copy of the New King’s Book with them they can die? It seems like only the old man who turns a brass washbasin over is a real knight.”

Azadin turned away laughing at Maya’s remark. It was a perfect opportunity for a surprise attack but even Maya had nothing to say about the current accusation.
