Night of the Soulless Heathens – 80

#80. Judgement Jecht 5
The arrow which was loaded with tremendous power seemed not to have been fired by human power but rather by a siege weapon. However an invisible shield appeared around Lord Jecht and blocked the arrow.
-Holy Shield!
The arrow could not withstand the force and exploded into pieces.
‘Isn’t this magic similar to the one the Count used?’
Azadin frowned at the sight just now. That was the most difficult of the Count’s defensive spells. If that paladin were to use it it would be difficult to catch him just by firing arrows from a distance.
‘If it’s Medium or Ismail you can break it with Hwajopungwol Baekhak but… the problem is that if you mobilize children they will be targeted.’
Azadin stuck out his tongue knowing that Judge Jecht still had plenty of time to spare.
‘Damn it. They say there are only sixteen judges in the entire King’s Church and I guess that’s true! Please don’t come after me.’
Azadin began to flee hoping that Lord Jecht would give up his pursuit.
As Azadin ran away Maya stamped her feet.
“What should I do? It’s moving away but it’s going too fast! If I don’t chase it now….”
“It’s okay. Just take your time and follow along.”
“Leisurely? No matter how much the Ghost Knight pursues if the opponent knows about it they will definitely come up with some kind of plan.”
“From the beginning the one who didn’t run away but stayed behind to fight us and buy time was that person’s goat or alpaca?”
“It’s a Kerim goat.”
Jibek corrected it.
“Anyway that alpaca has a lot of luggage. Even though it can pick up speed now it has a problem with endurance so it stayed behind to buy time.”
The hairy Kerim goat is weak to heat so it cannot outrun a horse unless it is a cold region. It may run faster than a horse for now but it will eventually tire and above all the only people riding Kerim goats around here are those from the north making it easy to track them down.
Besides don’t they have the Ghost Knight Sir Gazrek?
“Tracking is not difficult at all. The problem is that you have to come up with a way to catch them without them escaping every time. And…..”
Ject Sir took off his gauntlet.
“uh?”
Blood was gushing out.
“no way?”
“Yes. My finger was torn off when I blocked the attack he just swung. That’s really powerful.”

Lord Jecht’s hands were trembling as he looked at his own hands.
“Are you okay?”
“Of course.”
Ject looked at his hand and recited the spell. The bleeding from his wound quickly stopped.
“Fortunately the bone doesn’t seem to be broken. If it had I would have died without being able to kick away the sword he threw. The Herald Clan is no easy opponent.”
As soon as Jecht raised his hand the non-commissioned officers who had just followed the knights on foot brought out spears.
“One-on-one battles are fun but let’s do it together next time. Bring your spear and join us.”
“….”
“Why are you doing this Sir Jibek?”
“Sir Gazrek…..”
When I looked in the direction that Lord Jibek was pointing I saw Lord Gazrek writhing in pain.
“Oh I see. Sir Maya!”
“yes?”
“Go find the horse that ran away with the non-commissioned officers.”
“Oh I understand.”
After sending Lord Maya to another place Lord Jecht gave orders to the remaining non-commissioned officers.
“Give it food.”
“yes!”
The NCOs took Gazrek to a bush off the road and threw him a piece of meat they had been carrying on their pack horse.
Gazrek rushed at the meat like an animal and devoured it which turned out to be a human thigh.
“….”
“These are the corpses of sinners who deserve to die. I admit it’s not pretty to look at but isn’t this a very effective way to use up the bodies of those who would otherwise be thrown out into the fields?”
“That kind of attitude is closer to that of a necromancer than a paladin. If you are a sinner who deserves to die what sin did you commit?”
“It is the murder of a knight.”
“…yes?”
For a moment Sir Jibek doubted his ears.
“Are you talking about that young farmer?”
Are you saying that you killed the young man who was captured for the murder of Sir Gazrek and fed him to that monster?
Lord Zibek shuddered. The investigative report he had seen was thoroughly distorted but it had something to tell him. Lord Gazrek had indeed been involved in the murder of civilians and the farm people had attacked Lord Gazrek and his apprentices in retaliation.
Zibek could tell that what the young man was saying was true. But did he kill him?
Then Lord Jecht spoke softly.
“The Rescue Knights may be a bunch of idiots but there is one truth in their teachings.”
“….”
“A powerful black magic continues to emanate from the bottom of our continent. That means that without the light of the King’s Flower all corpses would become undead. Therefore eating corpses to get rid of them is a very effective funeral method.”
“But the young farmer… had his family murdered by Sir Gazrek.”
“So you’re saying I should forgive him for touching a paladin? Then people will ask why was he forgiven? And I’m saying ‘Oh actually Lord Gazrek massacred civilians.’”
“….”

Sir Jebeck was speechless.
Yes that’s right.
For the sake of the organization called the Knights of the King’s Church what Lord Jecht is doing is right. But even so it is too ugly. To cover up the truth for the sake of the organization.
“A sin is a sin. Sir Gazrek’s wrongdoings have already been paid for by the way he has become. And for the peasant youth who laid hands on the paladin death would be a fitting punishment. This is by no means an excessive punishment. Anyone else would have made the same judgment.”
“Is it okay Lord Maya? If you see me like this….”
“So I put her away.”
“No matter what…..”
“Of course it’s not a pretty sight so I’m keeping her from seeing it. I would appreciate it if you could be considerate of that Lord Jebeck.”
It was a voice telling you to shut up too. Lord Jibek smiled bitterly. Suddenly he remembered the actions of Azadin the messenger who had just escaped.
When I think about the way he fought for the petitioners even though he had already obtained the emperor’s gold and thoroughly buried the villagers who were murdered by the count’s son I feel ashamed of myself dressed up as a knight of the church.
“Then once Lord Gazrek’s condition has recovered we will pursue him. That messenger will probably have a copy of the New King’s Book that the Count has collected. He is someone we absolutely cannot afford to miss.”
A strange change has taken place in the body of the flesh-eating spectral knight Lord Gazrek.
Changes began to occur in the body of Lord Gazrek who had already died and whose metabolism had stopped and whose internal organs especially the digestive organs were removed to prevent decay leaving him unable to eat or digest anything anymore.
*********
Azadin ran along the road where the sun was setting panting for breath. The wound from the bullet he had been hit with was starting to hurt.
“I know this is something I absolutely cannot do but should I take a break?”
Azadin stopped the goat. The goat’s body temperature was too high.
“I already shaved my butt and legs but it looks like this. I need to shave all the hair on my body.”
As Azadin spoke he began to take off his clothes on the side of the road. The area where he had been hit by the bullet was bruised and internal bleeding was already occurring in a purple color.
Even if he had been hit by a hammer it would take some time for the wound to turn this color. It’s ridiculous that the wound has already become this discolored so soon after being hit.
furthermore….
-Wriggle.
Something moves inside the wound.
“shit.”
Azadin found something in his saddlebag. It was an obsidian razor. He cut into the bruise with it.
-Crooked.
A dark red worm-like mass of blood emerged from the wound.
“shit.”
Azadin took out a small porcelain bottle from his backpack poured the contents into the hem of his clothes to absorb them and put a dark red bloodworm into the bottle. He also opened other wounds pulled out the bloodworms put them in the medicine bottle and sealed the stopper.
“What kind of knight uses black magic so well? Fusing black magic with the colorless magic of the magic bullet.”
The author Judge Jektra is a wizard so skilled that he can independently fuse magic.
“A normal person would be dead already.”
Azadin survived because he had strong magic resistance. Anyone else would have died the moment they were hit by this horrible magic bullet.
Azadin cleaned the bleeding wound with the obsidian razor and applied ointment to it with the hem of his robe he had just soaked in medicine.
It was when I was doing that kind of work.
“are you okay?”
“….”
Midiam and Ismail have returned.
“No I told you to run away…”
“When you were a count we came back and you lived there.”
“That was true then. But that paladin is really dangerous. He’s a powerful wizard so helping me could end up killing you instead.”
“Then what? Won’t that undead keep chasing you?”
“I need to make a warding doll.”
Azadin cut the hair of a mountain goat with his dagger and twisted it by hand to make an exorcist doll and placed it inside his own hair and a vial containing the dark red bloodworm he had sealed earlier.
“That’s amazing. Where did you learn it? Did Elder Kazas teach you?”
“Yes. I worked as an assistant to Elder Kazas when he was studying black magic. I can’t use magic but I have knowledge. With this I can temporarily avoid the pursuit of the Phantom Knight. The problem is that I have to move it.”
As it happened there was a person walking nearby holding a torch so Azadin approached him.
“What what?”
The sun hasn’t set yet but it’s getting dark. You can’t help but panic when something suddenly pops out from the side of the road and blocks your way.
“Oh excuse me. Where are you going?”
“Why do you ask?”
“I have something to convey to you. If you go south would you please listen to me? Of course I will give you a reward.”
Azadin said so and took out a silver coin and showed it to me.
“Is there something you want to tell me?”
“Yes. I would appreciate it if you could take this south and throw it in the river.”
“….”
“I’ll give you five silver coins.”
“You mean five coins? Hmm. Okay I understand.”
“You must never damage it.”
“That’s right.”
“I’ll give it to you in advance now.”
Azadin handed him a silver coin and an amulet doll. The passerby was either excited by the sudden silver coin or he wanted to get away from Azadin quickly but he quickly walked away from Azadin.
“I hope this amulet can ward off that judge.”
“That’s amazing. Are you afraid? Him?”
Ismail asked. Azadin readily admitted.
“You should be afraid of fighting. No matter how confident you are in your abilities it’s wise to be afraid of unnecessary fighting. Come on. We need to keep our distance as much as possible while this trick works.”
