Night of the Soulless Heathens – 77

#77. Judgement Jecht 2
Even though he is showing off his precise skill of hitting the butt of an arrow he cannot even pick up a bowl of water nearby.
Azadin realized that his condition was very bad and laughed. He wouldn’t be able to catch even one chick in this condition.
Then the door opened.
“Are you awake benefactor!?”
It was a young child wearing a maid’s uniform. The child was rescued from the baker’s shop by Azadin.
The child was delighted to see Azadin awake then went out into the hallway and shouted. After a while the orphans came rushing in.
“You’re awake!”
“Are you okay benefactor?”
“I prepared this meal.”
The children were genuinely delighted that Azadin had woken up.
Unlike when they were dirty and sickly under the baker’s care the children now have recovered their nutrition and are clean in both their clothes and bodies. It was clear that living as Baroness Noord’s servants was a much better environment.
“Okay everyone calm down.”
Azadin stopped the children who tried to talk to him.
“How much did I sleep?”
“You slept all day.”
“Ah that’s why you’re so hungry. Oh I see. Okay.”
Azadin tried to get up but he had difficulty doing so.
“Are you okay?”
“Oh that’s right. It’s okay. Do you have a cane or something?”
“A cane?”
“I’ll prepare it!”
The children rushed out like an ebb tide and then after a while they came back again like an incoming tide each holding a stick.
Azadin picked one of them grabbed it and struggled to get up drinking some water and going to the bathroom. Even in the meantime the children continued to chase after Azadin.
“Ahahaha. Azadin are you awake?”
Midiam and Ismail who were working on their bows and leather armor spoke to Azadin as he led the children around.

“You guys are safe too.”
“It’s all thanks to Azadin.”
“But first I wish you would do something about these kids.”
“Call the maid.”
When Medium said that the children flinched and scattered in unison like mice in a warehouse whose lights had suddenly turned on.
“The maid seems scared.”
Azadin snickered at the sight.
“Have you eaten?”
“I have to. I’m still sleepy. By the way what happened after that?”
“There are rumors going around that the Count has turned into a monster.”
“What about the Count’s palace?”
“The church is taking control because of the demons that have been pouring out since the Count’s death. Baroness Nort told me that there is a war of nerves between the church and the Countess.”
“Hmm. Did you chase after the person who ran away with the copy of the New King’s Book?”
“We chased after them but we couldn’t find them. They ran away and hid among the refugees but you can’t use this wand in public. It’s obvious that it’s made of bone and if you use something like this you’ll be considered a cultist.”
“Really? Then what was the result of using the wand again?”
“that is….”
Ismail stepped forward as the medium was mumbling.
“It moved away but after a while it changed direction. Perhaps the Naga sorcerer used a method to hide the copy of the New King’s Book from pursuit.”
Azadin ordered Midiam and Ismail to pursue the Naga who had taken the copy of the Book of the New King but they abandoned the mission and returned. If Azadin had ordered them to pursue him until he died this would have been an act of disrespect as a servant and deserved punishment.
I think it’s okay if Medium makes his own judgment.
“Well done. It’s better than putting yourself in danger. If we had continued to pursue them it would have been dangerous. Nagashura’s forces are very strong. The Count was also thinking of receiving additional support from the Nagas.”
Azadin said this and became lost in thought.
“If the Countess and the church are having a power struggle this place is going to be dangerous. I have to leave this place for now. But before that I have to get my money right?”
Azadin agreed to receive 50 gold coins from the countess and killed the count. Even without the countess’ request he needed to sneak into the count’s house to find a copy of the New King’s Book.
“You did the work so you should get paid.”
Azadin said so and sat down in front of the meal prepared by the children.
********
But Azadin ate washed and fell asleep again. When he woke up again it was the next day.
“Wow you were lying around like an invalid for two days? Is that true? Well come to think of it I’m actually an invalid right now.”
Azadin tried to get up from his bed but…
“uh?”
Today hurts more than yesterday.
“Ugh… Oh my.”
A little later Medium opened the door and came in found Azadin writhing on the bed and laughed.
“Rest. Do you know what your body looks like right now? You’re covered in bruises.”
“Oh really? Did you take it off?”
“If you go to Kozel or the Countess’ house in that condition you’ll be killed not only by the soldiers but even by the dog they raise there.”

“but.”
“Let’s move after you’ve rested and recovered enough. Should I give you a massage?”
When Medium asked him that Azadin shook his head.
“No. Don’t do that.”
“Why? You have to do it for a quick recovery. You don’t have the right to refuse.”
Medium began to forcefully massage Azadin’s body.
“Eww!”
Azadin screamed but now he could not even shake off the medium.
*********
It took Azadin four days to finally be able to move around like a human being. He had been lying down for four days eating washing and sleeping repeatedly.
Even after resting like that I still suffer from muscle pain and bruises but I’m still in pretty good shape considering I fought the Count. I had to knock down a bell tower and fight a Naga as big as a house so I should be thankful I’m still alive.
“Hmm.”
Azadin trimmed his moonbow and put it on his waist.
“I wasted so much time.”
“It’s dangerous to walk around in that condition.”
“know.”
You may regret wasting time but it would have been more dangerous if you had pushed yourself too hard with that body. It was time that was needed. You had to give up what you had to give up.
“Then shall we go and meet Kozel and the Countess?”
“Are you really going to go get the money?”
“Money is money but I’m also curious about the situation.”
“Why do you insist on taking money? What’s important to you now is meeting the elders or the leader to have your dismissal revoked.”
“Or maybe we should collect more copies of the New King’s Book.”
Ismail was very impressed with the copy of the New King’s Book.
“I hate my sister but I don’t deny that she’s capable. With her current power and influence the Herald Clan would probably be in strife. And on a big scale.”
“yes?”
“The elders and the leader will be on the run. If they had remained in the sanctuary they would have been killed by Arael.”
“that….”
Ismail was shocked by Azadin’s words.
In the hierarchy of the Herald Clan the elders and leaders of the Senate are far above the clouds. Of course those of lower status and dissatisfied with the class system dislike the existence of such a Senate or leaders.
Nevertheless when you see their knowledge of magic and their overwhelming power it is not easy to dare to oppose them.
“That’s why even if we report to the clan’s normal command structure now there’s no guarantee that it will work properly. The reason Aldis went around and persuaded me is not only because she’s my guardian but also because no one else can act as the acting leader on their own.”
The current command structure of the Herald Clan has probably collapsed due to Arael’s rebellion. If so there’s no point in rushing from below right now.
“And there is a high possibility that we will not be able to receive support from the Chamber of Commerce in the future. There is a high possibility that traitors like Derek will appear among the members of the Chamber of Commerce. Derek was a member of the Saban family who was receiving support from the Saban family and yet he betrayed them. So shouldn’t we secure funds for future activities?”
Azadin selected his weapons from the saddlebag on his ram. He took two swords that were in poor condition and left the Baroness Nort’s mansion heading towards the Blue Rose Hall.
*********
The streets were lined with knights of the King’s Church and their men soldiers of the church. The atmosphere was chaotic. The friction between the common soldiers and the church people could be felt just by walking around the streets.
“I have to be careful.”
Azadin arrived at the Blue Rose Hall looking around cautiously and asked the staff there to call for Seodong Beldon.
“…You mean Sir Beldon? Okay I understand. Would you like to wait inside?”
“yes.”
After saying that Azadin checked that the staff was moving and immediately left the Blue Rose Hall. If Beldon reported Azadin and his party to the knights they would be surrounded if they stayed in a building like this.
“Then shall I wait in the alley? Oh my it’s so cold.”
“Shouldn’t you be lying down more?”
“I want to but I don’t have time and there’s a lot to do.”
“Well it’s not like I’m single so lying around all day isn’t good for me. Maybe it would be better to move around a bit for the sake of the baby in my stomach?”
Medium nodded in agreement.
“Hey isn’t that really horrible? That’s what happens when you die from the curse of service. Are you praying for my death right now?”
Azadin was disgusted by Medium’s jokes. Even if they were jokes they were not funny at all.
After a while Beldon was seen walking towards the Blue Rose Garden. Fortunately he seemed to have come to the meeting place alone without being stabbed by anyone.
“Hello?”
Azadin jumped out of the alley and quickly joined Beldon.
“You’re still alive.”
“I guess you were expecting me to be dead.”
“No no. Just.”
“Just what?”
“Are you really saying that you… did that to the Count?”
“You don’t think it was a natural death when something so big happened do you?”
“No that’s….”
Beldon of course knew what had happened to the Count’s palace.
The sight of the Count in complete disarray with traces of a fierce battle with countless monsters and the rumor that the Count had been turned into a monster and crushed into the bell tower suggests that at least a few dozen armed men were responsible for his murder.
But are you saying that this man did this by himself?
“If you don’t want to believe it that’s fine but can you figure this out?”
“….”
Beldon was speechless when he saw the ring Azadin showed him. It was the Count’s emblem ring.
“It would have been nice to have something like a sword or some other accessory but this is all I got when I met the Count while he was naked.”
“Oh my goodness. Who are you? Rumor has it that the Heralds killed the Count. Could it be?”
“If you’re a messenger you would have asked for the Emperor’s gold coins. If you have any you can give them to me. They’re much more expensive than gold coins.”
Azadin was making a fool of himself.
