#74. Temple of the Serpent 5

    “Not yet. Not yet…..”

The Count was furious and searched for Azadin. His dreams and ambitions were not over yet.

If he could defeat that messenger gather the remaining mummy forces and call for additional support from the Kurt Shin and Nagashura’s nagas who supported him… it would be a loss that could be easily recovered.

There are a lot of corpses anyway. There are a lot of people who will be turned into corpses. The drought will continue and this world will fall into chaos.

And even though things have come to this Devislin the queen of the Kurt Nagas will not give up on him.

    indeed….

    -Kurururung….

The Count’s body was growing with terrifying strength. The Count’s upper body which was the size of an ogre had almost doubled in size and his tail had also grown longer.

A large greatsword that once felt like a dagger when it was ogre-sized now feels as small as a fork.

“Huh! There’s no way you’d abandon me!”

The count hurried and chased after Azadin.

    *********

The enraged Count charged towards Azadin pulled out a large wooden torch from nearby and began swinging it like a club.

“What is it? Is it a growth spurt? It keeps growing?”

Azadin jumped over the backyard wall in horror as he watched the Count who had clearly been an ogre grow bigger and bigger.

    -Plop!

I expected it to not be very strong since it was just a pile of landscaping bricks made to create shade in the garden but it broke very easily.

    “Ugh!”

Azadin screamed and rolled out of the way of the falling debris. The Count’s tail narrowly missed Azadin’s head. There was a slight bend in the back and the Count’s tail swung through the gap.

“Ugh! You look like a weakling!”

The Count turned around in amazement at Azadin’s speed but his reaction was slower as he had grown larger. Azadin took advantage of the gap and fled to a flower garden connected to a fountain made of large ceramics.

    “No way!”

There too everything would blow up with just one swipe from the Count. However Azadin used the obstacle to effectively change direction and escape while the Count was out of sight for a moment.

The Count is furious. If you think that Azadin has evaded to the left and attack him from the left he will retreat to the right and if you think that he has gone backwards and attack him straight ahead he will instead attack you diagonally and turn around.

The fact that it happens every time means that your moves are too easily read and it gives you an unpleasant feeling like losing one-sidedly in a game like rock-paper-scissors or a card game.

    “This kid!”

The Count attacked but Azadin dodged him well and instead ran organizing his bow and the iron sword he had taken from the mummy soldier putting it on his belt.

‘Honestly… I’m surprised! Is this really the Emperor’s messenger?’

The Count continued to pursue Azadin impressed by his movements.

No matter how great Azadin is the larger the Count is the wider his attack range becomes. The responsiveness decreases accordingly but the attack range is so wide when he swings or sweeps once that Azadin has to sprint at full speed every time to avoid it.

There is no way a human could withstand it. Indeed Azadin was gasping for breath and dodging with all his might at every moment.

    *********

‘Fuck I’m going to die like this.’

Azadin was clearly feeling the pinch. He shouted at Midiam and Ismail.

    “Medium! Ismail! Escape!”

    “Yes?! But!”

“Get out after dealing with the mummy soldiers!”

    “how about you?”

“If I don’t stop it you guys will be in danger too! Don’t worry.”

Azadin retrieved the arrows that had fallen on the floor. They were the ones that had fallen in the spot where he had told Midiam and Ismail to shoot arrows when they first entered the sponsored villa.

Azadin filled his arsenal with it and still had an abundance of arrows in his hand.

    “good!”

Azadin struck some of the arrows in his hand against the ground. There was a pool of venom on the ground that the Count had spewed and he smeared it on the arrowheads.

    -Shhh!

Azadin shot the poisoned arrows he had made but the Count created a barrier to block the arrows. Will he be able to consume arrows to break through the barrier and pierce the Count’s scales which have grown larger?

    ‘I’m screwed.’

When Azadin was in despair Midiam’s arrow flew from his side. Midiam had fired the arrow at the Count even though Azadin had told him to run away.

But her bow is so weak that it won’t even pierce the Count’s scales… It was like that when she was an ogre but now it’s more than twice as thick and her scales are even thicker.

Azadin was also very close so he couldn’t be sure that he would be able to pierce the scales unless he pulled his bow all the way to the end and shot with a bow. However the arrow that Midiam shot was not just any arrow.

-‘Flowers birds wind moon and a hundred cranes!’

An arrow that had flown much farther than its usual range suddenly shattered into pieces as it struck the Count’s barrier. Medium’s magic had destroyed the Count’s Great Arrow barrier.

If Azadin who couldn’t use magic tried to break through the Count’s barrier with brute force Midiam used magic on an arrow to cut through the Count’s barrier.

    “Huh?!”

As the barrier suddenly disappeared Azadin’s poisoned arrow struck the Count’s body again.

    “Wow that’s amazing!”

Azadin was impressed by Medium’s proper assistance. But that was not all.

-‘Flowers birds wind moon yellow crane!’

Ismail also fired an arrow with magic. Knowing that Azadin’s next target was the Count’s right eye the arrow flew in front of the Count’s nose veered to the right and hit near his right eye. Then the arrow exploded on its own shocking the Count’s entire skin.

    “Ugh!”

    The count screams.

“You treat me like a child but I’m also a child!”

As he spoke Medium fired the enchanted arrow again.

    “shit!”

The Count picked up a handful of broken bricks from the floor to attack Midiam and Ismail but then Azadin shot him with a poisoned arrow.

    -puck!

Azadin’s rapid fire method was to pull the arrow halfway and fire rapidly. But now instead of firing rapidly he pulled the arrow all the way back and even cocked the bow to further increase the bullet velocity.

    Aragasa law!

Azadin’s efforts paid off as the arrow pierced the scales and lodged deep under the eyelid. The arrow was so lodged that it was impossible to see it until it reached the tip of the tail.

    “Ugh!”

The Count twists and turns. He barely avoids being hit directly in the eyeball but the poisoned arrow has lodged in the rotator cuff so he will soon have vision problems in his right eye as well.

What if there is a sharp piece of sand in your eye and it happens to be lodged in your rotator cuff so that when you move it it continues to tear the muscle and inject venom?

Although the Count was not immediately blinded or injured by the giant’s attack he was in so much pain that he could not open his eyes properly.

    “These kids!”

Azadin additionally fired poison arrows targeting the Count’s eyes. If he could completely blind the Count he could win!

    But that was a mistake.

    *********

This time the Count rushed forward. He didn’t care if an arrow was stuck in his eyeball or not and charged forward attacking Azadin.

    “Ugh!”

Azadin spread his ground spider and avoided the Count’s greatsword attack but at that moment his tail thrust in. Azadin blocked the Count’s tail with the savage iron blade he had on his belt and leaped backwards to absorb the impact but…

Unlike the first time this time I was hit quite hard. While I was shooting an arrow the Count’s tail flew towards me so I took the attack with my iron sword in one hand.

Azadin unable to fully absorb the shock flew over the buildings of the sponsorship and landed on the roof of the gallery connecting the sponsorship and the bell tower.

“Are you still alive in this situation?”

The Count was shocked to find that his tail was barely responsive. Azadin had managed to survive the Count’s tail swing absorbing most of the impact and flying back to life. However…

    “Ugh…..”

The bleeding that had stopped started again. Nothing was broken but my head was throbbing and thunder was ringing in my ears.

I felt pain as if I had been hit all over my body including my head abdomen pelvis and legs with a strong punch. The mummy soldier’s iron sword was cleanly shattered into pieces.

As the Count’s body grew larger the power of his attacks also increased. In addition he was able to block the iron blade with only one hand without using both so Azadin used the breathing technique of Kazas Haeseo to control his shaking internal organs and blood flow and tried to recover as quickly as possible.

If the Count had attacked at this time or if there had been a mummy soldier nearby Azadin would have been dead.

    “Kwaaah!”

But the situation wasn’t good for the count either.

Because of the poison arrow his left eye is not very visible and his right eye is still fine but it still hurts and throbs. The enraged Count charges at Azadin swinging his sword and torch but Azadin despite being wounded manages to fly backwards and escape to the bell tower.

    *********

    “What are you all?”

There were soldiers hiding in the bell tower. They were scared and fled when the mummified soldiers appeared and the giant snake monster started to run wild.

“If it’s okay can I borrow your weapon?”

Azadin paused as he spoke. The roof of the bell tower had burned down and the charred rafters remained overhead.

The inside of the bell tower is made up of several planks that are connected to support the weight of the tower but soldiers removed the planks to prevent the tower from collapsing if a fire spreads inside.

“You guys run away! This bell tower is going to collapse!”

    “What? That’s….”

“I’ll buy you some time so hurry up!”

Azadin again took up his moonbow and climbed up to the bell tower window firing an arrow there.

    “Kyaak!”

The count approaches the bell tower in indignation.

    “Out the back door!”

    “Uh uh… yes!”

    “Oh I understand!”

The soldiers escaped under Azadin’s orders.

    “Okay! Okay!”

Azadin grabbed the rope of the bell and started to climb up.

    “This kid!”

The Count cast a spell to capture Azadin. Blood spears flew out burrowing into the windows of the bell tower before turning inside and rising into the sky.

    “Is he dead?”

It was when the Count had such a question.

    -Kurururung!

Suddenly the bell tower began to collapse.

    “uh?!”

As the Count was panicking Azadin leapt from the top of the bell tower holding the halberd head in his hand and slammed it into the Count’s head.

    -‘Hwajopungwolbyeolkajashae!’

A powerful shockwave reminiscent of a lightning strike penetrated the Count’s thick skull and traveled inward.

    “Huh?!”

In an instant debris from the bell tower rained down. Above all a sharply sharpened rafter pillar that had been burned to the ground pierced the Count’s body. Azadin had used the bell tower rope to control the direction of the flying debris.

    “Oh my gosh….”

The screaming count was impaled on a rafter and crushed by the bell tower.
