    #63. Arael’s Voice 3

Derek also cleared his throat knowing why Azadin was looking at him with distrust.

    “Look at this.”

Derek kicked off his boots and stuck his ankle out. There was a new growth of tendons on his ankle a bright red tissue that reminded Azadin of the one the spirit called ‘Voice of Arael’ had seen attached to the crow earlier.

“I’m stronger and fitter than before and my pain is gone. I can play active duty again.”

    “Betraying your clan?”

“It wasn’t me who betrayed the clan. It was the leader Hatir and the elders. They were studying black magic. In the case of Elder Kenahan… he was a vampire. That’s why Arael personally executed him.”

“Is that what Arael is saying? You couldn’t have seen it with your own eyes right?”

“But it was a well-known fact that the leader Hatir had been studying black magic. It was already a well-known fact that the leader and the Senate had been studying forbidden magic for their own selfish gain. However….”

“When they used that as an excuse to rise up there was no focal point but Arael became the focal point? Is that what you want to say?”

    “Yes.”

“But I can feel the black magic in this too?”

Azadin pointed to Derek’s ankle. He could sense an ominous magic from the muscles that were attached to the outside of his body to replace the severed tendons.

“This is the power of green magic. It is the power that governs the source of life.”

“It’s mostly green magic but… there’s also black magic.”

“You take me for an idiot. What do you know about magic when you can’t even use magic?”

    “….”

“Even if Arael were to dabble in black magic it would be incomplete for us to become rulers with only the power of the Flower Bird and Moon. In the first place the power of the Flower Bird and Moon was given by the Emperor to use our clan as slaves. True power is to embrace everything.”

When criticizing the existing rulers the leaders and elders they say that they dabbled in black magic but when it comes to Arael possibly dabbling in black magic they defend her by saying that there is no need to be picky about the means for the sake of her clan.

Azadin smiled bitterly as he watched Derek being stubborn.

“You’re completely out of your mind. When on earth did you meet Arael and decide to devote yourself to her?”

“It was right after I broke up with you. I didn’t meet Arael I met his voice.”

“Arael? Since when did you start calling me that? Didn’t you used to call me that while cursing me?”

“Back then I was ignorant and didn’t know anything. But now she is a living god and the savior of our clan.”

“You are a loyal subject. No I should say you are a fanatic.”

Azadin was shocked at Derek’s brazen change of attitude. However it just meant that Arael’s influence was that great.

Just from the ‘Voice of Arael’ that she displays you can’t help but believe that she has powers close to that of a sage. It’s no wonder that the Aragasa the oppressed messenger clan think that the savior they’ve been waiting for has finally arrived.

    ‘no.’

But Azadin couldn’t acknowledge Arael. Because she had permanently damaged Azadin? That too…

    ‘Arael is too dangerous.’

Because her personality is cruel and destructive.

Arael’s personality can be summed up in one word: a tyrant. He walks the path of tyranny trampling on everything that stands in his way. If such a person had the ambition to conquer the entire continent of Hybris there would be a storm of bloodshed.

‘But I still wonder what kind of conditions he came up with.’

    Azadin asked Derek.

“So why did you want to see me? Why did you want me to side with Arael? Then there must be something more to the story.”

    “I received a letter.”

    “letter?”

“You just have to show it to me.”

    “where.”

Azadin was startled when he received the letter from Derek. He felt an unusual magic from the letter.

‘What is this? Is this Arael’s letter?’

    Derek laughed as Azadin hesitated.

“Why? Are you afraid of your sister’s letter?”

    “I’m not scared.”

The ominous power felt in this letter and Arael’s voice.

Arael’s powers have become so powerful that it is now questionable whether she is even human. Even if she claims to be a living goddess there is no way to deny it.

Azadin took a deep breath and opened the letter. At that moment darkness engulfed Azadin.

    *********

    “….”

When Azadin finally came to his senses there was no change in his surroundings. When he was drawn into the letter’s magic Azadin was able to speak directly with Arael.

But neither Derek nor anyone else around them noticed the change in Azadin. Azadin crumpled up the letter.

    “You bastard! How dare you!”

“You’re crumpling up his letter without even reading it!”

To others it seemed as though Azadin had crumpled up the letter without even reading it.

“I’ve already read it. I rejected it because it was a condition that I absolutely could not compromise on. And even if I did what if I crumpled it? Can’t I even crumple up my sister’s letter?”

    Derek snorted.

    “Aren’t you my older sister?”

“I said she’s my little sister.”

To those who did not understand the magic that was placed on the letter it seemed as if Azadin had insulted the letter. Those around Derek took up their weapons.

    “What should we do Derek?”

“Should I kill that kid this time?”

“We cannot tolerate someone like Azadin becoming our superior just because he is Arael’s blood relative. In order to reorganize the hierarchy of the organization we need to get rid of incompetent people in advance.”

The vast majority of the Heralds virtually all of them held a consistent view of Azadin.

I hate you because you are the son of a traitor

He was despised for his incompetence

I was furious that he had become a messenger by using tricks on such a topic.

But Arael stands up on her own and makes a persuasive gesture to Azadin.

Even if they are siblings with a wide gap in their lives do they still have a bond of blood? So just as Azadin became a messenger through the connections of Elder Kazas he will once again stand above them through Arael’s connections?

That was something that all the Herald Clan members who had rebelled on Arael’s side could not tolerate.

“Haha that’s ridiculous. You just started a rebellion and it’s hard to even organize the organization right away but you’re already worrying about seniority. So you’re going to kill me? Did Arael tell you to? Or is it your own judgment? Either way it’s fine. You’re underestimating me too much and you’ll pay the price with your own bodies.”

Azadin turned his power of the wind and moon to Kazas who was suffering from muscle pain.

My body is unable to move due to the excruciating pain that feels like my limbs are being torn apart but when I use the breathing technique that Kazas taught me the pain goes away and the strength returns to my muscles.

    Can fight.

After the fight you will feel even more fatigue and muscle pain.

    But Derek stopped his men.

“Stop. We didn’t come here to fight.”

    “Yes? But…..”

    “Mr. Derek.”

“You shouldn’t fight him. Lady Arael really cares about her ‘little brother.’”

    Derek forbade fighting Azadin.

“What? This son of a bitch?”

Azadin was indignant at Derek’s mention of Arael.

    Arael cares about him?

It’s funny. There have been countless people who have insulted and beaten Azadin so far but none of them have left such terrible scars on Arael.

But now you’re saying this to everyone? How much humiliation do you have to endure before you’re satisfied?

But even though Azadin was blatantly trying to kill Derek it seemed like he really had no intention of touching him.

“I have no intention of fighting you Azadin. If you attack we will run away with all our might.”

    “That much? That’s unexpected.”

Azadin was surprised to see that Derek had no animosity toward him.

‘I was going to take this opportunity to correct your bad habits so why aren’t you attacking me?’

After reading the letter Azadin deliberately crumpled it up. He wanted to provoke Derek and his men and use this opportunity to correct their bad habits. But Derek was too cautious.

Are you wary of Azadin? Or are you being asked to do so by Arael? Or is there something else on your mind?

Either way Azadin the messenger could not start the fight first.

“Negotiations are broken. But I won’t fight you just because I see you Derek. Go back.”

“You punk! It’s not you who’s being spared right now it’s us!”

    “On the topic of incompetence!”

    “Traitorous bloodline!”

“But aren’t you the ones who have rebelled against your clan now? And if you are of traitorous blood then so is Arael? Isn’t Arael whom you love so much the one who has rebelled again with traitorous blood?”

Although Azadin pointed that out the servants of the clan who had already become fanatics did not listen.

    “We are the revolution!”

    “We are the true clan.”

“You really have a convenient mental world.”

    Azadin taunted Derek’s men.

“Stop. Understood. I will retreat. But be careful Azadin. This Salasma is not ordinary. The local chief made excuses and ran away so you know that well right? I do not want you to receive Arael’s favor but I also do not want you to die suddenly while I am there and be falsely accused.”

    “Okay then go quickly.”

Azadin waved Derek and his group away as if he was shooing away flies.

    *********

Derek’s men who had delivered the letter to Azadin were furious. They thought that Azadin had dared to humiliate them.

    “You cheeky bastard!”

“Azadin can we just leave that guy alone?”

“When he was young he was such an idiot that he couldn’t even string a bow. He wet the bed until he was eight!”

Derek’s men who were driven out of the mansion were indignant at Azadin’s arrogant attitude.

Azadin was a traitor and a failure who failed to even pass basic training and he had the lowest status among the messenger clan. He was lucky enough to become the disciple of Elder Kazas and become a messenger but he ignored them.

    That perception was widespread.

    “You idiots.”

    Derek stopped them.

“Do you know that Azadin has dealt with more than ten of Atra’s followers?”

    “yes?”

“Azadin killed half of the mercenary band led by the count’s illegitimate son at the easternmost post town. Without our intervention.”

    “That that….”

“Besides that guy Prince Kozel whom we transported was also attacked by Azadin.”

Derek talked about Azadin’s activities during that time. Everyone had preconceived notions about Azadin from his childhood and looked down on his activities after he became a messenger but if you look at it coolly there was evidence that couldn’t be hidden.

Evidence that Azadin at least properly performed his duties as the Emperor’s messenger.

Despite this Derek’s subordinates resisted perhaps because of their strong prejudices from childhood.
