    #60. Darkness of Salasma 8

    “shit!”

Azadin took the black gust of wind with his body.

“Ha… You’re a knight. Are you enduring it with your body for the lady? Hmm?”

Azadin held out without much effect. A normal person would have been weakened in an instant but Azadin seemed fine.

“Oh right. I’m sorry. I have a strong resistance to black magic.”

    “what?!”

“Everyone you must be tired but cheer up for a moment! We’ll finish that guy off!”

Azadin warned those who were tied up then jumped backwards and grabbed the rope the Baroness was hanging from.

    “this guy!”

The paladin tried to chase after Azadin but Azadin swung the rope like a swing and bounced sideways. Then he jumped to the next rope.

    “Shy…..”

The paladin turned to the side to give chase but Azadin had already jumped over to the other rope.

    ‘You’re too fast you punk!’

Azadin moves faster than the Paladin can turn his body. Plus he can’t see well because he’s behind the person hanging from the rope.

    “Ugh!”

Azadin was picking up speed while moving the ropes with the sacrifices centered around the paladin. It was as if the paladin was trapped inside a giant whirlpool.

    “What is this?”

As the paladin panicked Azadin flew behind him and stuck to his back.

    “This kid!”

The paladin was shocked but it was too late. Azadin had leapt forward at such speed that the wave of rats collapsed under his force.

“Did I keep you waiting long? It’s over now.”

Azadin said this to the paladin and leapt backwards holding onto his body.

    Terrible power and speed!

The power that Azadin had gained while spinning on the rope was transferred to the paladin.

    -‘Cheongilsong Dokya Cheongjeong! Kazashaeyo!’

Originally the magic books of Flowers Birds Wind and Moon were linked by verse so excellent magicians could connect magic with images of birds flowers scenery and moon phrases to create more powerful magic.

‘Cheongilsong Dokya Cheongjeong’ is originally an enhanced version of Cheongilsong’s magic but what Azadin used was an exhilarating vertical drop that transferred enormous kinetic energy to the opponent.

    -Bang!

The paladin was slammed into the ground with a thud. Azadin hugged the paladin spun around and then slammed him head first into the ground.

A huge barrel dropped from a great height and pinned vertically into the ground would kill both a bear and an ogre instantly.

Indeed the paladin’s spine was completely shattered. As his spine broke his rib cage collapsed and the bones tore through his internal organs leaving him in a horrific state.

“Ugh! I haven’t even… transformed yet… using all the power of the Apostle of Mejeri!”

The fallen paladin seemed to still have a lot of hidden power as an apostle of Mezeri. However no amount of power could compensate for his shattered spine and torn internal organs.

The knight eventually died without being able to do anything.

“If there was something like that you should have done it a long time ago. Should I wait until you transform?”

    Azadin sighed and got up.

“Oh my I’m so tired. I’m dying from exhaustion.”

I’ve faced too many enemies by myself.

“Oh shit. Come to think of it there’s a bunch of rats…”

There are still many rats around Azadin. The rats that have already tasted human flesh are fierce even after the death of the Paladin who is the apostle of Mezeri.

A swarm of rats swarms Azadin. There is no way to avoid it since he is on the ground. At that moment a copy of the Divine King’s Book floating in the sky descends and emits an intense light.

    -Tick!

    -Crackle!

The rats’ bodies began to catch fire. The rats close to the copy of the New King’s Book died and those far away became blind so they began to run away. There were so many rats but they all flowed away like the tide.

    “What the heck?”

Azadin reached out to the copy of the Book of the New King that was floating in front of him. As if it was being sucked in the copy of the Book of the New King flew towards Azadin and was caught in his hand.

“You chose me as your carrier. Whatever it is I appreciate it.”

Azadin placed a copy of the New King’s Book in the bracelet Aldis had given him and freed the people who were tied up with ropes.

“Whew. Is this the third chapter? I’m tired. I’m tired.”

Azadin returned the way he had come supporting Baroness Nourt.

    “Ah… that benefactor.”

Baroness Nort was blushing. She was Tarki’s mother but she was a blonde beauty who looked to be in her early thirties.

“Oh I’m sorry. There’s a difference between men and women but I touched them without permission…”

“No. Please help me. I can’t control my body either… But I’m worried because it seems like your benefactor isn’t feeling well either.”

“No I’m fine. I’ve been lacking sleep lately so I just took down all the guys here by myself…”

    “Are you talking alone?”

    “It was stupid.”

    That’s when Azadin said that.

    “Mother!”

Tarki was waiting at the entrance. A very angry Medium was with him.

“Azadin! Even if it’s you what are you doing!”

    “why?”

“Why did you go in alone?! Didn’t you decide to defeat the enemies one by one? Going in alone….”

“There was a clan among the enemies. They recognized my face.”

    “Yes? You had a clan?”

“Yeah. I’m kind of a celebrity in my clan you know. Even guys I don’t recognize recognize me.”

“Anyway don’t push yourself too hard. You’re not single anymore.”

“Midiam said this and supported Azadin.

“Oh you’re not single? No way…?”

Baroness Nort looked at Azadin and Midiam in confusion. It was a situation that could easily be misunderstood.

“Oh that’s right. Ugh it’s such a weird situation to explain?”

Azadin resented Medium for complicating the situation with his useless jokes.

“No but what about the other people who were caught here?”

Azadin was concerned about the others who had been captured in the Ware Rat Den.

“It’s okay for now. There’s nothing we can do about the dead but the living have all run away on their own.”

    “escape?”

“I don’t think that’s possible but if the King’s Church comes to investigate they’ll question everyone involved. They might have become Wear Rat…”

The knights and inquisitors of the King’s Church were of the opinion that they would not tolerate even a single heretic even if it meant executing 100 innocent citizens.

In other words if there is any suspicion they are executed. The more they execute the easier it is to take away the property of those who are executed. That is why the hostages were captured by the Were Rats and even though their bodies were injured they all escaped before the King’s Church could handle the case.

“But there are many injured people inside. We have to save them.”

“Let’s leave the Rescue Knights to clean up the mess. It’s their responsibility.”

    “Yeah that sounds better.”

Azadin agreed with Medium’s opinion and took a deep breath.

    *********

Those who could walk on their own two feet somehow managed to walk away but many people still remained in this Were Rat Den. Those who were so damaged that they could not move could not be moved easily so Azadin and his party decided to request rescue from the Rescue Knights.

Azadin found the doomsday preacher he had just enticed with a bundle of biscuits and asked him to contact the Rescue Knights and after watching the situation unfold he retreated to Baroness Nort’s mansion.

“It is an honor to have you as our guest in our home.”

Baroness Nort guided Azadin and his party to her mansion.

    “Oh over there…..”

As he entered the Baroness Nort’s mansion Azadin thought of the Emperor’s gold coins.

‘I should ask her for gold but it seems a bit odd to ask for something in return from her when I’ve let everyone else off without receiving anything in return.’

It was at that time that Azadin was in such an awkward position.

“When we rescued you your son promised the emperor’s gold in exchange for your life.”

Midiam immediately demanded the emperor’s gold coins. Azadin was impressed by Midiam’s boldness.

‘It’s convenient in this respect. Or am I just too shy?’

As Azadin turned his head thinking like that his eyes suddenly met those of Baroness Nort.

“Your benefactor’s name is… Azadin right?”

    “yes.”

“Its old name is Asahdin. The dragon of Muan. Isn’t it the old Anukia myth? Asahdin and Arael.”

    “Oh you know?”

“Hey a little bit. I said I wanted to learn magic but I learned a little bit. It’s embarrassing.”

She sat up again feeling embarrassed and somewhat shy.

She must have been tired from being tied up but she has such a beautiful body. She is so beautiful that it is hard to believe that she is Tarki’s mother even when she just sits still. In fact looking at her appearance it is hard to believe that she is a woman with grown children.

“But where did you get the emperor’s gold coins?”

“It was passed down in our family as an heirloom.”

“Is that so? Then how did you hire that mercenary group?”

This Nort Baroness possessed magical items belonging to the Spider Queen Atra who bestowed upon her female followers the powers of courtly intrigue seducing the opposite sex and slaughtering their rivals.

So I read in the book that there were quite a few among the female nobles who served the Spider Queen. That mercenary group was also part of the Spider Queen Atra’s retinue. They didn’t just hire any random mercenaries on the street.

“They were adventurers who brought me the magical items I wanted. Was there something wrong?”

    “Yes they are.”

    Azadin explained what happened.

“Oh my! That happened. Are you okay Tarki?”

“Oh yes. Fortunately thanks to the gold coins my mother gave me… they saved my life.”

“Thank goodness. Not only my life but also my child’s life was saved by this benefactor. How can I ever repay this favor?”

Baroness Nordt says so and smiles her radiant beauty standing out.

    ‘It’s strange?’

Azadin felt a strange aura from her.

‘Are you saying that you hired those who had fallen to the Atra clan because you didn’t know? But you wouldn’t necessarily fill the mercenaries you hired to support your son with Kurt’s cult members. Isn’t that contradictory?’

Suspicious in many ways. Could the beautiful and alluring aura I feel from her be a gift from the Spider Queen Atra?

However she herself does not seem to be a monster like Atra’s followers. If she were a monster she would not have been captured by the Wear Rats so easily.

As Azadin’s thoughts became complicated Medium stepped forward.

“I think five of the Emperor’s gold coins will suffice.”

As for Azadin he had to blame Medium for interrupting his conversation with the Baroness… but in fact Azadin also coveted the Emperor’s gold coins.

“Medium this is what I have to do. Don’t step forward.”

“But Azadin looks tired too. The Baroness looks tired too so I think it would be best to settle accounts quickly and rest.”

When Medium said this Baroness Nort asked.
