    #58. Darkness of Salasma 6

Azadin said he would spare her life but she didn’t seem to believe him. It was a natural reaction. How could he spare the were rat? Even if he were to let it go it would just go somewhere else and continue to eat humans reproduce and cause trouble.

Since their souls have already been dedicated to Mezeri they have no choice but to continue living as beasts unless they have a strong will.

“So… I just told you to run away I didn’t say I wouldn’t catch you?”

Azadin picked up the sword he was holding and threw it at the fleeing Kirven.

    -Pfft!

The sword thrown by Azadin spun and flew slicing through Curven’s calf.

    “Ugh!”

Flesh was torn into chunks and a huge amount of blood gushed out. Curven slipped in his own blood and fell.

“Hey you punk! You said you’d spare my life!”

“I told you to run away I didn’t say I would spare you.”

“You tell me to run away and then attack me from behind. You should know shame as a messenger! You are truly cursed!”

“I’m sorry about that. But you didn’t lie did you?”

Azadin approached him and picked up the sword that had fallen on the floor.

“Oh I lied just now… Actually I’m not sorry at all.”

He stabbed Curven in the neck with his knife killing him.

    *********

Originally Azadin had planned to summon his enemies and defeat them one by one. However things got complicated because of the defecting messenger clan Kerven among the Wear Rats. He had already stirred up the enemy so now he couldn’t back out.

If Azadin returns to the ambush area to call Midiam or Ismail the Were Rats may escape in the meantime. There are still many traces of life in this inner underground storage. If they are not all subdued the Apostles of Mezeri will snowball again.

“There’s nothing I can do. If only I had the Emperor’s voice… I could ask him to call me.”

Azadin was dismissed from his post as herald and was unable to contact the Emperor’s voice…. Trying to defeat each enemy individually ended up needlessly dispersing our forces.

Azadin entered the wine cellar. Inside was a truly horrific slaughterhouse. It was a space where humans were dismembered butchered and eaten and some were turned into ‘Megeri’s Blessing’ or wererats.

In a large operating room Wear Rats holding scalpels and saws were found stabbing a person tied to an operating table when they found Azadin at the entrance.

    “Is everyone okay?”

As Azadin shouted the Were Rats noticed his identity.

    “An intruder!”

If he were a scapegoat he would just scream and never calmly ask about the people’s condition like Azadin.

    “Kill me!”

A wear rat carrying a surgical bone saw rushed at Azadin.

    “With that skill?”

Azadin ducked placed his hands on the ground and kicked.

    -Two-tap!

With a single blow Wear Rat’s body was lifted up and flew backwards crashing into the operating table.

    “This kid!”

Another wererat rushed at Azadin holding a scalpel in each hand.

    -Throw!

Azadin swung his sword without even looking splitting his opponent’s jaw from bottom to top. But…

    -Snap!

The sword broke in Azadin’s hand.

‘Damn. I was swinging that long weapon around so carelessly.’

The tip of the knife broke when it got caught on the surgical table lying around.

    “This is your chance!”

Wear Rat jumped in after seeing that but Azadin held the halberd head in his hand and blocked Wear Rat’s attack.

    -Ugh!

Wear Rat’s forearm disappeared below the elbow. Azadin caught the head of the halberd and swung a straight shot and it was severed. Wear Rat’s head was then struck but Wear Rat’s long ugly teeth became a source of trouble for his opponent.

Azadin’s attack caused Were Rat’s teeth to break and roll inward piercing the roof of his mouth and even penetrating his brain. Were Rat collapses looking horribly broken.

    “Huh!”

Although Azadin can no longer use his sword because of the surgical tables it also makes it difficult for the Wear Rats to surround and attack Azadin.

“Damn the guys upstairs were making so much noise that I thought they were playing among themselves again but it turned out to be an intruder.”

“Let’s jump up and surround them.”

    “Who does that?”

    “You first?”

One of the Wear Rat tried to jump over the operating table and attack in a hurry but Azadin delivered a cool roundhouse kick to the Wear Rat on the operating table.

As soon as Wear Rat was hit in the leg and fell onto the operating table Azadin’s halberd head fell vertically. He held the halberd head with his hand like a sledgehammer breaking bricks and he brought it down on Wear Rat’s neck decapitating it cleanly.

    “Keeeek?!”

    “Ugh…..”

Only then did the Were Rats realize that Azadin was no ordinary man. They realized that they were not the hunters but the hunted.

    *********

It didn’t take long to clear out all the wear rats in the operating room but Azadin leaned against the wall and gasped for breath.

    “Gasp… gasp….”

I used up too much energy.

Azadin is not completely invincible. The power of Kajas the flower-bird-wind-moon mimics magic with the power of martial arts. The wild magic of the torn incomplete grimoire and the power of trained muscles allow him to display great power but the price for this is the enormous consumption of stamina.

He had held out while pretending to be calm in front of his enemies but now that all of them had been annihilated there was no need to show off. Azadin struggled to recover his stamina panting for breath.

    “Please save me!”

    “Eek!”

As Azadin gasps for breath refugees struggle to stay on the operating table crying out for help.

    “Oh yes. I understand.”

Azadin cut the ropes on the operating table and freed them then retrieved the bone saw and scalpel the Were Rats had just used and gave them to them.

“For now protect yourself with this. Have you seen the noblewoman in the red satin dress?”

“Are you talking about a woman?”

“I’m not sure but if it’s women it’s further inside…”

Those who were rescued were speechless. Perhaps something even more terrible was happening.

    “Hmm. Wait a minute!”

Azadin twisted and tore the wood of the operating table pulling out the planks.

“Attach a scalpel or saw to this with a rope and use it as a weapon. It will be difficult to deal with the Wear Rats with short weapons. We’ve killed the ones around here but you never know where they might come from.”

    “Oh yes…..”

“Please wait over here! I’ll go inside.”

“Watch out Joe. There are more horrible monsters inside!”

    “Excuse me who are you?”

    “I am the Emperor’s messenger.”

    “omg?!”

    “That messenger?”

Those who had just received help were shocked when they learned that Azadin was a messenger. A god-killer with the blood of a god on his soulless hands was considered an ominous sign no matter how helpful he might be to them.

“It’s okay. I’m not trying to harm you.”

Azadin ignored their cold reactions and walked inside.

    *********

Further down in the cellar there were giant rats along with meat storages. Rats the size of calves with saddles on their backs ridden by deformed wererats. They were Mejeri’s blessings and they were born deformed from the womb.

    “Keeeek!”

    “Kill.”

On the wall women who appeared to have given birth to these men lay half-dead. Azadin made the sign of the cross as he looked at the horrific sight.

“Archangel of the Trinity… guide poor souls.”

He who is called the soulless blasphemer steps forward taking pity on their souls. Mejeri’s followers ride giant rats and charge at Azadin.

A rat the size of a calf leaped from above his attendant holding a large butcher’s hook and glaring at Azadin. He leaped with incredible leaping power something unimaginable for someone of his small stature.

    however….

    -Shhh!

Azadin threw something. It was a scalpel he had brought from the operating room. As the scalpel pierced the eyes and faces of the followers who were lunging at him from the air Azadin grabbed the head of the halberd and ran forward unleashing the Hwajopungwol Kajas Haeseo.

    -twilight!

Azadin’s body slipped through the onslaught of his followers and rats.

    -Autumn wind!

Powerful horizontal axis. Azadin swung his entire body as if throwing it while touching the ground with his hand kicking it striking the small followers and rats then took his swinging foot away reducing the rotation angle and increasing the rotation speed.

The followers within Azadin’s attack radius were bounced off and crashed into the wall. They were literally blown away like autumn leaves by the autumn wind that Azadin unleashed.

    “Kki… eek!”

The followers rose again with amazing vitality but at that moment blood spurted out. The scalpel that had been thrown at them had been deeply stabbed when the men rolled around after being bounced off by the autumn wind a moment ago.

    “Wow!”

The retinue falls. The rats rush at Azadin but they too have scalpels embedded in their torsos. When Azadin kicks them lightly the wounds become too deep for them to hold on.

Azadin then knocked down his followers and approached the women tied to the wall.

    “Are you okay?”

    “Ugh…..”

    “ah….”

About half of them had already died of exhaustion and those who survived were few and far between. There were no women wearing satin dresses.

‘He shouldn’t be here since he was kidnapped last night. Oh my god. This is really horrible.’

Azadin cut the ropes of the survivors so that they could retreat and called the people outside. Those who were tied to the operating table were making spears by tying surgical scalpels to wooden sticks as Azadin had instructed but they were startled when he called them.

    “What’s going on messenger?”

“Take the living women here and protect them.”

    “What about you?”

    “I’ll go further in.”

    “….”

People were puzzled by what Azadin was doing.

‘The messenger clan is said to be a soulless blasphemer who murdered the new king.’

‘You’re saying that you’re going to fight the monsters of the Kurt clan like this?’

    ‘Saving people?’

‘Are you trying to trick us?’

However they all instinctively knew that Azadin was genuinely concerned about the people for Azadin’s actions were free of pretense and showed only a consistent passion to achieve his goals.

This is not something that can be imitated with acting.

    What if it’s smoke again?

Thanks to that I was saved.

    *********

In the deepest part of the wine cellar there were still huge barrels of wine. Underneath them countless swarms of rats were gnawing at the corpses and on top of them were people tied with ropes.

It was a dark storage room but there was a single light source in the middle of the empty space. It was a piece of paper that was emitting light on its own. The copy of the New King’s Book was glowing in the empty space.

    “Hmm.”

A knight wearing the plate armor of the Salvation Knights and the surcoat of the Salvation Knights was approaching the copy of the New King’s Book with a cold sweat forming complicated gestures.
