Night of the Soulless Heathens – 494
by Jessie@AFNCC
#495. Night of the Soulless Blasphemous 6
Azadin who had regained his energy went out towards Kaspar.
Selim and his men offered to go with Azadin but Azadin declined.
“You just focus on persuading others and saving the people. I don’t have to worry.”
Azadin rode the sled alone toward Kaspar and the tailwind continued to blow pushing the sled at a frightening speed.
As we approached Kaspar we saw undead that had lost their minds wandering around the snowy field.
Those killed by Sir Sok became undead and wandered around where they found Azadin.
[Living human!]
[Blood and flesh!]
The undead swarmed but Azadin drove his sled to avoid them.
The sled already picking up speed easily outpaced the undead.
“The ghosts of Lord Sok. Are they still in Caspar? Or have they left them behind?”
Azadin checked the ghosts and entered Kaspar.
Kaspar also saw that the trees of Grimslowe were growing and protecting the city.
[emperor!]
But ghosts blocked Azadin’s path.
This time the ghosts were the inhabitants of Caspar.
“hmm!”
Azadin turned the rudder of the sled and scratched the snow.
The sled which had turned sideways skidded and slowed down. The speed was reduced even further as the sail was quickly folded and the anchor was thrown back.
Azadin’s sled stopped before the ghosts.
“Are you the citizens of Caspar?”
Azadin stood proudly before them.
[Emperor! We followed and trusted you!]
[To pay the price for killing your people!]
[Our children are dedicated!]

[My husband!]
“Yes. Your light cavalry was truly excellent.”
Azadin recalled the exploits of the Chitai nomadic light cavalry and consoled them for their hard work.
Even if you have committed a sin if you have the right will at the right time even an ordinary person can be reborn as a great hero.
Although they were people who had committed the sin of following the enemy their devotion could not be diminished.
[But why did this happen?!]
[Why did you abandon us!]
[You tricked us!]
The spectres began to attack and accuse Azadin.
But Azadin used his divine protection to block their approach.
The wraiths screamed in pain as the wall of light cast by Azadin blocked their approach.
“I also lacked strength.”
[Then die now and atone for your sins!]
[If you can’t overcome this tribulation anyway die now without suffering!]
The spectres howled and tried to break through Azadin’s sacred defenses.
But they couldn’t even approach the sacred defense.
“No we can’t die now. We can overcome this.”
[How! What makes you so sure?]
“Because they all contain miracles just like the bravery shown by your children and husbands.”
Azadin convinced the spirits by telling them of the devotion and bravery shown by the light cavalry of Chitai.
[Nonsense! What you’re saying is nonsense!]
The ghosts were angry but some of them were puzzled.
[Wait a minute! This is the person our children were trying to save!]
[Yes! He is also the enemy of children!]
[But he still believes that he can save the world! That belief! If that belief turns into this light then the author truly believes in hope!]
[We must help him so that our children’s sacrifices do not turn into dog deaths!]
[Even in this situation!]
The ghosts were perplexed.
Just a moment ago Azadin was unable to convince even a single person who had gathered at the shelter.
It was because I myself was shaken by anxiety and delusion.
However the current Azadin was displaying strong divine magic based on his firm faith.
[If he wants to destroy us he can easily do so. Why wouldn’t he do so?]
The ghosts began to stir.
[Do you really believe that you can overcome this ordeal?]
One of the wraiths asked Azadin a question. He was the one who had just incited the other wraiths to attack Azadin.
“Okay. Can I pass? Even if you don’t expect me to forgive you and bless you at least…”
[No you can’t.]

The ghosts of Chitai shook their heads.
[Your Majesty receive our blessing.]
[The death of our children….]
[Please don’t let my husband’s death be in vain.]
[It may not be the kind of thing those who massacred and plundered your people should say.]
“All the people of Hybris are my kin. I will gratefully accept your blessings.”
Azadin was blessed by the spirits and walked into Kaspar’s refuge.
*********
The trees of Grimslowe grew along the outskirts of Kaspar’s walls.
Inside there were about 100 houses made of earth and wood and there were docks and mooring facilities for transporting cargo.
Although it was small for a trading city in the populous Qitai it was much larger than expected and could accommodate a larger population as there were places for nomads to pitch their tents.
But now the docks and houses were badly damaged and there were several huge ice pillars lying there and I could sense Lord Sok’s spirit from these ice pillars.
And beneath the ice of the spirit there were already dead soldiers gathered who had become undead.
Living soldiers and dead undead soldiers were glaring at each other and facing each other.
“What the heck is this?”
Azadin walked between the two opposing forces.
“uh?”
“Your Majesty!”
The soldiers were surprised to see Azadin walking towards their spears.
I feel shock mixed with confusion suspicion and complex emotions in people’s gaze.
Among them there were those who still remained loyal to Azadin while others lost that loyalty and fell into suspicion and delusion.
It was the same everywhere. As the light of the King’s Flower faded and the full-scale Fimbulbert began many lost faith and fell into despair.
Despite this they seemed to be refusing to become undead and were fighting against the undead soldiers.
“What’s going on? What the heck?”
The soldiers were taken aback by Azadin’s confident attitude.
Originally they had resented him for the despair that had come to them in the absence of Emperor Azadin.
Those who were loyal defended Azadin saying that he had done nothing wrong but those who were not loyal argued that Azadin was not a proper royal but a soulless blasphemer and that this was why this had happened and they fought among themselves.
But the emperor himself came to see him.
Of course those present knew the Emperor’s power so no one dared to attack him.
Didn’t Azadin possess the power of a living god?
‘But isn’t that the power of the New King’s Book? If the light of the King’s Flower has disappeared then the interest now….’
‘Want to try it? Even without that he’s probably the strongest of the messenger clan?’
‘That can’t be true.’
Even those with disloyal intentions could not help but bow their heads in fear of Azadin’s power.
On the other hand the undead soldiers had nothing to fear.
“What! Isn’t that a fake emperor!?”
“Look at us! It’s because of your own mistakes that we’ve become like this!”
“What is this a soulless blasphemer claiming to be the emperor!”
They mocked and despised Azadin and showed their anger in full force.
Azadin closed his eyes at the horrible sight.
“I tried to block it as much as I could but my abilities were limited so I couldn’t block everything.”
“Ha! Then die!”
“Take responsibility and die!”
The undead soldiers hurled abuse.
But Azadin slammed the ground hard.
“Shut your mouth!”
A wave of sacred white magic spread out forcing the undead to their knees.
The undead soldiers who had been hurling insults at Azadin all knelt down and collapsed.
‘Ugh?! No….’
‘What kind of power is this!?’
‘Didn’t the light of the king’s flower disappear?’
The undead soldiers knew that Azadin had unleashed his divine power and his majestic appearance.
Azadin was not at all discouraged.
Even this terrible disaster is being faced with as if it had been expected and the intention is by no means empty.
“I have already promised the people of Kaspar that I will restore this world! So are you going to run away by dying and disappearing?!”
“Crazy…..”
Everyone who said that was shocked.
Come to think of it there were phantoms wandering outside this city who had lost their minds.
Of course if it were Azadin now it wouldn’t be impossible for him to ignore those ghosts and come in but what if what Azadin said was true?
‘More than anything. Why is this bastard so confident?’
But then suddenly the earth began to shake as if an earthquake had occurred.
And then one of the ice pillars began to crack.
The ice created by Sok’s magic shattered and the sword sealed within the ice flew out and landed in front of Azadin’s feet.
The golden ceramite longsword Aurelia Dawn has returned to Azadin.
Azadin picked up the sword.
Aurelia Dunn shone like the sun itself radiating hot heat in all directions.
The cold was gone and the snow and ice inside the shelter began to melt.
“What is this!?”
All the soldiers and humans who were watching trembled.
If it felt warm from this far away then that sword must really be as hot as the surface of the sun but Azadin was calmly holding the sword spreading light in all directions.
“Your Majesty. That is…..”
“Look! Even I have never been able to burn ceramite like this before! But the miracle has been with us from the beginning! Even if we have abandoned faith faith does not abandon us! We have already been saved so now all that remains is to put it into practice!”
The emperor with a holy sword that burns like the sun and is wrapped in sacred white magic.
People felt their hearts warm at the sight of him.
But it bothers me.
It was the same when the Empress knighted them.
Could any power of white magic or divine magic truly defeat the darkness?
Can you handle the despair that awaits you outside the harshness of Fimbulbert?
And above all aren’t many of the soldiers here already undead?
“We are already undead!”
The soldier who had become undead shouted.
“What do we have left?! No life! No future so what hope can we have?!”
These are people who have already died and have become undead after being consumed by the power of Lord Sok.
Even if the power to save the world already existed among them isn’t it already too late?
