Night of the Soulless Heathens – 492

#493. Night of the Soulless Blasphemous 4
Among humans Selim was a very powerful warrior.
No matter how great a man may be he is like a child before Selim.
However among the Minotaurs Selim was only slightly larger than the others but he was not a being that could overwhelm them.
I’m scared.
He is afraid that his blood relatives whom he has finally obtained will be disappointed in him.
I’m afraid of losing my position as commander-in-chief.
In fact he was lucky enough to be a founding father who joined the Azadin Army early on so he was given the undeserved title of General but he was afraid that it would be revealed that he was not very good at personal military force or strategic leadership.
He was afraid that it would be revealed that his status was an illusion.
I am afraid of losing my wife and children whom I have worked so hard to obtain.
I’m afraid of being abandoned by my family.
As a commander in chief of the Azadin army I must punish the murderous Minotaurs and turn the people’s hearts around.
But it is not easy when you see people’s gazes filled with contempt hatred and resentment.
They distrust him since he is a Minotaur.
Meanwhile the humans dwarves and elves fled. Only the minotaurs remained around Selim.
The Minotaurs took control of the refuge and captured anyone who passed by enslaving them and teaching them to do the same to humans as they had learned from the Elves.
Selim closed his eyes to such a situation.
*********
“What? You’re a person I’ve never seen before.”
“Who is armed without permission? Put down your weapons!”
The Minotaurs were disarming the humans.
Those who resisted were killed and eaten and those who obeyed were made slaves and forced to do various chores.
But then suddenly a heavily armed human appeared in their shelter.
“I want to meet Selim.”
“What? You want to see the chief?”
“That’s funny. Who are you?!”

“He’s Selim’s acquaintance. If you interrupt our meeting Selim will be angry.”
That’s what the human was saying. That’s what a typical con artist would say.
I am an important person so let me meet with the high-ranking official. Otherwise I will punish you.
However his words were not just empty words and the other human slaves around him recognized him and were embarrassed.
They spoke cautiously observing the complexions of the Minotaurs.
“Hey over there Minotaur. He’s….”
“Shut up. You guys are always thinking of tricking us into thinking we’re stupid. You’re just going to eat us up?”
“Let’s kill him.”
The Minotaurs had no intention of sparing anyone who claimed to be an acquaintance of Selim.
This was because their goal was to isolate Selim from other humans and completely reborn him as a member of the Minotaur tribe.
Selim’s human acquaintances even if his connections and relationships before returning to the Minotaur tribe were real and not a fraud they had to be thoroughly destroyed even more so if they were real.
“Hmm? You’re smarter than I thought. Is this the work of the elves?”
The human who claimed to be Selim’s acquaintance realized that the Minotaurs were intentionally trying to separate him from Selim and kill him so he drew his sword.
“This kid!”
The Minotaur wields a large battle axe.
It is a weapon that is difficult for a human to use even with both hands but the Minotaur swings it around like a hatchet and lunges at people.
Although his attacks were unstoppable all martial arts were useless against his overwhelming physical abilities.
Adding the length of the battle axe’s handle to its arm length which is longer than that of a human it has an attack range that is longer than that of a halberd wielded by a human.
But the human stepped back heeling his drawn sword to his ashwood longbow.
Hanging an arming sword on a bow.
Even if the arrow is heavy it is not even 1/20th as heavy as the sword. If you shoot the sword with a bow there is no way it will fly properly.
But the black bullet that was launched was faster than everyone expected.
-puck!
In an instant the Minotaur’s head was split vertically.
“100 million?!”
“This guy!”
The other Minotaurs were surprised but the human who had already attacked rushed forward with terrifying momentum picked up the battle axe that had fallen on the ground and attacked the other Minotaur.
In an instant the axe was stuck in his knee and the human who jumped up stepping on the axe handle kicked and broke the Minotaur’s jaw.
“Don’t make me laugh! You little punk!”
The Minotaurs tried to deny what was happening before their eyes. The sword imbued with the power of the birds moon and cranes fell on the heads of the Minotaurs.
The Minotaur raised his axe to block the attack but the sword slid over the axe as if it was curved and sank into the Minotaur’s head.
“Flowers birds wind and moon!”
“Are you a messenger clan?!”
“No. This guy… No this person….”
The Minotaurs were confused. Only then did they realize Azadin’s true identity.
Of course the Minotaurs still couldn’t tell humans apart so it was more important for the Minotaurs’ servants to tell them about Azadin’s true identity.
“Yes. I am Azadin you foolish ones. How can you repay the sin of killing and eating people when there is still food left? Does Selim know about this?”

Then Selim appeared among the Minotaurs.
“Great Captain…?!”
“Selim! You’re alive.”
“Oh that…”
Selim rolled his eyes avoiding Azadin’s gaze.
He also knows very well that he is in an undignified position. That is why he does not dare to look Azadin in the eye.
“What are you doing Selim? Why don’t you hurry up and pay your respects?”
Selim’s godmother who was part of Selim’s family rebuked him.
Azadin smiled bitterly as he looked at Selim’s godmother.
“Since you are in office Sir Selim you should step aside for a moment. Aren’t I talking to Sir Selim right now!?”
“I am sorry.”
The godmother took a bewildered look and stepped back but her eyes seemed to be gleaming with suspicion.
It seemed as if Azadin was watching with nervousness what he would do with Selim.
‘Oh oh oh. Just because he met his family he left the weakling without any special safety measures. Oh damn it. He tried to rule all over the place by himself so there are a lot of gaps but this is how many there are.’
Azadin regretted his actions when he saw that the Minotaurs Selim’s blood relatives were not ordinary.
If I had known they were these guys I should have isolated them from Selim.
It’s a shame that it’s not like that. Even if I could go back to the past it would be the same. I’m sure I’d object saying “What’s the basis for not being able to see my fellow countrymen that I finally met?”
But now that everything has come to a head it is impossible not to be tempted to wonder what would have happened if we had acted this way or that way in the past.
“Selim.”
“I don’t know Captain.”
Selim shook his head and sat down.
“Kill me because I did something wrong. But please spare the woman who is pregnant with my child.”
“What are you talking about? You want to die because you did something wrong? People who truly repent for their wrongdoings tend to think that their life alone is not enough to atone for their sins. What you’re doing now is nothing more than giving up your life and throwing it away.”
“Great Captain.”
“Where is Medium? And the others?”
“If it’s the Empress Lord Sok will take her. He’ll make her undead and convince the captain. The others either died fighting Lord Sok or escaped.”
Azadin was surprised to hear Selim’s words.
Sir Sok is trying to turn Medium into undead?
If that’s true then it’s a big problem. We need to go find Sir Sok right away…
“Selim. I considered you a comrade regardless of the relationship between the ruler and the subject. Like you I was born different from the people around me and was ostracized and it was the teachings of the Knights that sustained me.”
“….”
“But the judgment must be fair. Did you harm the people? Did you allow cannibalism?”
“I’m a sinner who deserves to die anyway so it’s a luxury not to eat that meat. In this situation I should eat something to fill my stomach.”
Selim made an excuse. It was a petty answer that he himself was aware was an excuse.
Of course it wouldn’t work on Azadin.
“Once you start to enjoy the taste of human flesh even those who did not commit a mortal sin will resort to abusing the death penalty to obtain the meat. If you execute someone after a truly fair trial you should leave the body intact to maintain fairness.”
“…I got it.”
“hmm?”
“You’re great! You’re great Captain! This is not a situation where you can talk nonsense like that! We came here following you and ended up in this mess! We don’t even know if we’ll survive this long night so how can you talk so honestly? We’re not like that! And even the Captain who says that couldn’t even protect his own woman!?”
“what?”
Azadin was taken aback when he saw Selim suddenly launching a personal attack on him.
But then it happened.
“Let’s attack!”
When Selim started to react angrily to Azadin the other Minotaurs saw this as their chance and attacked Azadin all at once.
But at that moment Azadin disappeared.
-The flowers birds wind and moon at dusk!
Azadin’s figure disappeared with a blurry afterimage dissolving into the darkness. At the same time the halberd began to dance.
The heavy halberd sways lightly like a reed blown by the wind slaughtering the rushing Minotaurs.
“Eww! What are you doing! Stop it!”
Selim tried to stop his people from rushing at Azadin but now that his people were being massacred it seemed as if he was trying to stop Azadin from killing his own people.
“Selim!”
“Come here! Get out of here!”
“That emperor is indeed no ordinary man!”
The Minotaur Mother immediately pushed Selim back and sent in other Minotaur warriors.
Although Selim was the nominal chieftain all of these Minotaurs were acting according to the will of their great mother.
They still do not know of Azadin’s bravery. They have heard of it through rumors but they do not truly understand what kind of being Azadin is.
Selim who was known as Chadra Ogel and knew well what kind of monsters Azadin had defeated could not endure this moment when his people and Azadin were fighting each other for their lives.
“stop!”
Selim stepped forward and blocked Azadin’s spear with his body and instead struck the faces of the charging Minotaurs with his iron fist.
Azadin’s spear stopped and the Minotaur stumbled.
“Selim!”
“What are you doing!”
The Godmother and the Minotaurs were furious at seeing Selim on Azadin’s side.
But Selim met their gaze and suddenly shed tears.
“I confess that I am so scared right now. I can’t stand this moment because it is so scary. What if this night lasts forever? When I think about it my people are so precious to me that if I point out their bad behavior I’m afraid I’ll lose the people I’ve found!”
“ha.”
Azadin let out a long sigh after hearing Selim’s words.
Azadin understood Selim’s situation deeply.
Although he grew up in the niche of the messenger clan Azadin was a monster of shame. If it weren’t for his two benefactors Aldis and Kazas he would have died long ago unable to bear the loneliness.
Azadin himself sympathizes deeply with how lonely Selim must have felt.
“But Selim. To give up your beliefs in order to be loved by someone is to give up yourself. Can you offer what you yourself have thrown away to those you love and ask them to love you? You must protect your own dignity.”
If you throw yourself away begging to be loved you will become even more cheap. Even if the whole world does not love me at least I should be proud of myself.
With that alone Azadin had endured a long life of loneliness and despair.
Azadin told that story to Selim.
