Night of the Soulless Heathens – 484

#485. Miracle Paradox 5
Chitai’s throne like the other Yaegas thrones was a quartz throne buried deep in the earth.
The throne room was located deep within the palace to accommodate this quartz throne which was derived from the ground deeper than the foundation stones that supported the pillars of the palace.
On that throne Azadin sat cross-legged and parallel halos were spinning along his head chest waist and pelvis emitting a terrifying white magical power.
-Pants squeak!
Sparks fly and Azadin’s body bursts apart.
The flesh is burned and the vaporized fat becomes boiling oil and spurts out of the skin.
However healing magic is then activated healing Azadin’s wounds.
Healing and destruction happen over and over again.
The divine power that humans could not handle was burning and regenerating Azadin repeatedly.
Azadin was enduring the pain while protecting the throne.
The sight was so horrible that even the servants turned their heads away unable to bear to look at it.
“oh my god….”
Medium was shocked to see what had become of Azadin.
“What the heck?! I’ve never heard it was this bad….”
“The human heart is truly treacherous. When Your Majesty performed a miracle everyone turned away. I can understand why Your Majesty was reluctant to perform a miracle.”
Ismail spoke in his usual scornful tone.
“When I stretched out my arms to save a drowning man they put iron hooks into my arms to increase my chances of survival. Even though my blood is flowing and my flesh is torn they shamelessly call on His Majesty the Emperor’s name and pray for a miracle thinking that they will survive.”
Since the Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire supported Azadin’s ascension to the throne in his own name the kings of other kingdoms also recognized Azadin as their emperor one after another.
At first everyone was suspicious and half-believing but once the tide turned everyone started to cling to Azadin as if nothing had happened.
The problem is that the other kings are below par.
The light of the King’s Flower could only be properly used by Azadin and so the burden was entirely placed on Azadin.
“The temperature has plummeted since the elves summoned the Nether Reapers. His Majesty Azadin is struggling to hold it back alone. The kings of other countries have proven to be truly useless.”
“Don’t you have time to rest even for a moment?”
“Once the Northern Qi and Northern residents have completed their evacuation the Northern Sea Route and Karasar Tarasar will be excluded from the protection zone. Only then will you be able to rest.”
Azadin was pushing himself too hard to buy time to protect Assander and Karasar Tarasar.

If that’s the case then we can’t just give up so easily. At least the lives of three kingdoms and millions of people are at stake.
“Oh I knew this would happen but I’m still really upset.”
Midiam approached the throne.
“It’s dangerous.”
The ministers around her tried to stop her but she ignored them and went forward.
Then Azadin who was sitting on the throne opened his eyes.
“Medium? This must be Cheetah. You’ve come a long way.”
The surrounding courtiers were surprised. Azadin had been unconscious until then but when Midiam approached Azadin regained consciousness.
“Yes. I rode Nislav over waves as big as a house. I almost died.”
“Why would you do something like that….”
“I want to ask you something Azadin. If you hate me risking my life so much what are you doing now? Why don’t you value yourself so much? When you treat yourself so carelessly you are also treating me your spouse so badly.”
“…Are you here to scold me?”
“I should scold you too. I’m the only one who would say something unpleasant to you the most important being in the universe.”
“No everyone was doing well.”
“What kind of worthless bastard would do such a thing? Who would dare to do such a thing leaving aside the Empress!”
Midiam was indignant at Azadin for nagging at her.
It seemed that even if she got angry or scolded she thought that she had to do it herself and that letting others do it was an abuse of power that encroached on the Empress’s domain.
“…Now that I think about it there wasn’t any. I think everyone was kind to me because they were watching my every move.”
“Really? You’re not lying to cover up for me are you?”
“Haha. That’s right. Anyway I’m glad I got to see your face. Medium. You’re still lively and lovely.”
“Are you laughing right now? My flesh is bursting out? No Azadin. If I were to silently harm myself far away would you be angry? Or not?”
“You misunderstand but this is the truth. Those elves are currently using sorcery in Nagaland’s territory so I’m trying to stop them. If we just leave them alone not only will countless people die but we’ll all starve to death without being able to harvest the crops we’ve planted in the south. It’s not that I want to harm myself….”
“I know that too. Miracles keep happening in the south fighting against the evil deeds of the elves and nagas. But Azadin. If you alone stop them from continuing to commit such killing-you-and-me-and-them-alone acts won’t you end up being dragged around as they wish?”
As the medium said Azadin was indeed being dragged around.
Whenever the nether followers of the elves and nagas committed acts of destruction there was no one who could stop them except Azadin so Azadin sacrificed himself and protected the world with his miraculous powers.
But until when?
“Once we complete the evacuation to the north we’ll have more energy. We’ll just drag you around until then. This is okay right?”
“And then?”
“huh?”
“And then will you be able to survive? Will you be able to live happily ever after with me? If you do this it will definitely shorten your remaining lifespan. Even with the King’s healing magic there’s no way a wound like this will not leave any aftereffects right?”
Medium knew that Azadin’s condition was not normal from the beginning.
But if even sane people keep doing crazy things like this will they be able to survive after this tribulation is over?
“…….”
Azadin couldn’t answer.
“So this is why Emperor Yaeslat a god died young. Yes. I think I understand. Azadin.”
“…I’m sorry.”
Azadin apologized to Midiam because he had no choice but to make her a widow when she had such a bright future ahead of her.

“You should ask me to spare your life instead of apologizing to me.”
“Hmm? What does that mean?”
“I’m trying to make a miracle happen.”
“miracle?”
“Yes. So Azadin bless me and give me military power.”
Azadin was taken aback by Medium’s bold words.
“What are you planning to do?”
“I want to save you from becoming a god without permission.”
“So specifically….”
When Azadin asked that lightning of magical power passed through Azadin’s body again.
A spark of magical power piercing through Azadin’s spine momentarily knocked him unconscious but the healing spell cast afterwards restored him to health.
Azadin who had fainted for a moment woke up groaning.
“Ugh. Oh I’m sorry. How long was I unconscious?”
Although it was only for a moment Azadin seemed to think he had been unconscious for quite some time.
Azadin’s current situation seemed so bad that his sense of time was becoming a mess.
“What an idiot…..”
“Medium. I don’t want to put you in danger.”
“You are wrong.”
“….”
“You have to ask for help Azadin.”
“…hmm.”
“I know you’ve been bluffing all this time. I always knew this would happen. I was prepared! You showed that kind of attitude but in reality your heart sank didn’t it? I know you’ve been trying to protect us by braggadocio pretending to have foreseen everything while somehow blocking everything that happened with your own abilities. But this time you need our help. So please bless me and give me the authority to fight.”
“haha.”
Azadin smiled bitterly at Medium’s bold words.
“Okay. Please. Help me. Medium.”
“Yes of course.”
As Medium nodded Azadin released his sword Aurelia Dawn and handed it to her.
It wasn’t just the sword. Grimslow’s club and the blue executioner also flew towards her and stopped in midair.
Medium accepted the weapon put it on his belt and nodded.
“Then I’ll sleep a little more. Medium. Please.”
“yes.”
Medium nodded and left the audience room.
Behind her lightning of magical power struck again torturing Azadin but she did not turn around.
There was no time to look back if he wanted to free Azadin from his suffering as soon as possible.
*********
The emperor performs a miracle.
But the darkness of the night was growing longer than the miracle could bear.
The days without sunrise are getting longer.
The winter winds grow harsher shade hags whisper in the darkness beasts become monsters and cults grow more rabid.
At first even the Breeds and Goblins froze to death in this cold.
But then white-furred Breeds appeared and goblins with pure white fur also appeared.
Even in the bitter cold they moved in groups casting spells and attacking people.
If the Emperor’s army had not protected them none of them would have survived.
The people of Chitai gathered at Changgokguan under the protection of the emperor.
The order to flee further north in a horrific environment where one would instantly freeze over if one went outside without the Emperor’s protection may seem incomprehensible at first glance but Assander is said to be the most livable place in the north.
But everyone’s feet were tied at Changgok Hall.
They were stranded here until the sleds of those who had left earlier were recovered.
There was a shortage of sleds. People had to wait for the sleds to return because the path was endless if they tried to walk.
During that time countless cult members were caught inside Changgok Hall.
Many people would have nightmares when they fell asleep in this place where the winter wind was blowing.
The hag transformed into a charming beauty whispers sweet words to them….
The voluptuous goddess wearing a dress made of spider webs stimulates their desires.
There was also the temptation of the messenger of death to fill his hungry stomach with the flesh of his neighbors….
There were even sweet whispers telling me to become one with the fear itself that frightens me.
The Emperor’s miracles are clearly sacred and wondrous.
But when the prophesied Age of Jupiter arrived and the forces of evil engulfed the world the Emperor’s personal miracles were nothing more than a candle in the face of a storm.
Many people fell into darkness and each time the Emperor’s inquisitors would hunt them down and execute them like ghosts.
Maybe the sled they’re talking about is fake and they’re trying to kill all the Cheetahs here?
If you think about it the emperor was a herald.
Now that he has the power to perform miracles no one doubts his divinity but before everyone doubted ridiculed and despised him.
Everyone took the lead in persecuting him and the Chitai people had also invaded his country so it may be that the emperor hates them and wants to purge them.
While I was trembling with such fear a rumor started to spread.
The empress comes to Changgok Hall.
For the refugees who were suffering from fear cold hunger and boredom it was truly something to be hoped for.
If the empress came would they have a feast or something? Even if not there was an expectation that she might come and offer some relief.
And as rumored the empress arrived at Changgok Pass.
