    #481. Miracle Paradox 1

Azadin opened his eyes to a terrible hunger.

    It’s dazzling.

But then I realized that it wasn’t even real sunlight it was just a pale white light.

Maybe it was because I had my eyes closed for so long in such a dark place. It felt more like I had fainted and then woke up than like I had slept.

    “oh.”

    “your majesty!”

He could hear the voices of people cheering in his ears.

    “You’re awake.”

Azadin’s eyes were glued shut and wouldn’t come off. He tried to rub his eyes with his hands but his hands felt heavy as if they were a ton of gold.

    “Hmm. I’m thirsty and hungry.”

“What the heck! Get ready to die right now!”

After a while the servants brought some porridge.

Azadin looked around grimacing at the dazzling light.

    “Where is this?”

“This is the underground elven city of Ascendar.”

Between the stone walls made in the style of the old elves there were glowing luminescent crystals and mushrooms.

It appears to be Ascendar’s underground.

“Ascendar I shouldn’t be here yet. How long have I been unconscious?”

    “It’s the second day.”

“Really? Fortunately it hasn’t been that long. I’m really glad.”

Azadin moistened his lips with water to keep them from cracking and carefully ate the porridge.

I don’t know what it tastes like.

I don’t know if it’s because my body is in shambles or because this porridge is a mess but from what I smelled it seemed like a lot of things were in it.

‘Well since it’s for the King I guess he brought something good. Is this proof that my body is broken?’

Azadin put the porridge in his mouth little by little and put it down. He had absolutely no appetite.

He got up from his seat.

“Your Majesty you need to rest a little more.”

Despite the people around him trying to dissuade him Azadin took a deep breath and circulated his magic.

    -Thud.

There was a sound like something snapping and drops of blood sprayed around Azadin.

The skin near the collarbone was torn and blood was spurting out.

The skin not even a blood vessel was torn and blood was spurting out. Azadin also realized that the magical power flowing through his body was not ordinary.

“What? Why is it flowing so much?”

Azadin immediately traced his own magic.

Quite a few miraculous powers were being unleashed.

In addition to dispelling the cold with the light of the King’s Flower it can be felt that the power of many new kings is being spread throughout this world through Azadin.

“Let’s eat first and then talk.”

Azadin reached back into the porridge the servants had brought him and forced it into his stomach then looked around.

Azadin’s servants waited until he finished his meal.

“So what happened after I collapsed?”

“The Northern Emperor formally requested the King’s Church to recognize His Majesty as Emperor. And. He forced the Knights of the King’s Church in Asander to swear allegiance to His Majesty.”

    “okay?”

“Yes. As a result Assander’s knights and priests have restored their divine magic.”

It was truly astonishing. Under the pressure of Cohen Lionaire the knights and priests of Assander swore allegiance to Azadin.

In fact even if it wasn’t forced the knights and priests in Assander saw Azadin perform miracles against the hand of the Nether.

So quite a few priests began to follow Azadin wholeheartedly and surprisingly they began to be imbued with divine magic.

Until then only those with good bloodlines including priests and paladins of the King’s Church could properly use sacred magic. However now anyone with a sincere faith regardless of bloodline can use sacred magic.

It could truly be called a miracle of the king.

“There is no need to say anything more about who the true king is.”

When Zion Etar said this Jibek took up the conversation and continued.

“In other words among the priests and knights in Banreung and Arangi Btuma those who could not use sacred magic were disloyal. Those who had already received His Majesty’s favor and could not use sacred magic doesn’t that mean they had disloyal intentions? They should be punished.”

“No don’t be like that. There aren’t many priests from the King’s Church in our army anyway. But what if something like that happened? That’s a big deal.”

    “Huh? What’s the big deal?”

“I think it’s because the knights use sacred magic but my body is in worse condition. I am the medium for sacred magic and that’s like millions of people walking across a small stone bridge at the same time. It’s good that people are using sacred magic but that means the burden on me as the medium is getting bigger.”

At that moment the elven stone gate of Azadin’s residence opened and Cohen and the knights came in.

    *********

“Oh Your Majesty the Emperor. I heard you have awakened. Are you feeling well?”

Cohen seemed genuinely happy to see Azadin awake.

Everyone watching was astonished to see someone who had done everything he could to defeat Azadin come out like this.

However Azadin accepted Cohen’s words indifferently.

“Cohen. You look well. Are you using the throne of Assander?”

“Yes. I am trying my best to evacuate people in order to atone for my past insolence even if only a little. To that end I am drawing power from the throne to protect the people.”

The Northern Emperor sat on the throne of Asander and used the maximum power he could muster to guard the Northern Sea Route connecting Asander and Karasar Tarasar helping the people to evacuate.

“The knights of Assander have also turned to His Majesty the Emperor and are using the power of miracles so no one will doubt that His Majesty is the true agent of Yaegas. There are still those who are disloyal and reject the gospel but it is only a matter of time before they will be able to do so.”

The other ministers who were listening felt a mixture of emotions as they saw the delighted Northern Emperor.

‘This kid. Are you feeding him properly?’

‘You are only taking advantage of yourself while harassing His Majesty Azadin.’

During that time the poor and uneducated among the people of the Northern Qi Dynasty were either abandoned or starved to death.

But now by freely using Azadin’s miraculous power he increases Azadin’s burden and focuses on saving refugees.

    I made up my mind.

He claimed that but no one believed him.

“Ha. That’s not what I wanted.”

“Haha. You are so humble. There are many who say they dislike the wealth and fame of the world but Your Majesty seems to be the only one who truly sees them as stones on the side of the road.”

“No really this is not what I want. If I do this even if I survive this fight the same thing will happen again.”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Why do you think the gods of the Nether have come to this land? Because we crave miracles. Which one has more power the Yaegas or the gods of the Nether?”

Azadin’s question was an irreverent statement even when spoken.

The King’s Church tabooed any questioning of the Yaegasu royal family.

But even without saying it everyone knows. The abilities of the Yaegas have limits but the Nether’s messengers have no such limits.

If we compare the two simply in terms of the total amount of miracles the Nether Gods are absolutely superior.

“The desire for miracles is what brought the gods of the Nether to this land in the first place. Selling miracles here to reassure people may be effective in the short term but it will only bring about another destruction in the long run.”

“But now is the time to hope for immediate results. The carrier’s load is a tool for making a living but if he’s going to freeze to death he has to burn it as firewood to survive.”

“I know too. So I won’t say anything. Ugh.”

Azadin turned his head grabbed a water jug and threw up everything he had swallowed.

    “Are you okay?”

“People are praying and casting sacred magic in my name. In Tarasar and Karasar. Well I need to sit on the throne there and activate it.”

Azadin could sense the people praying and drawing divine magic from as far away as Tarassar and Karassar even in the old elven cities beneath Assander.

Thanks to Cohen’s diligent preaching of Azadin’s miracles many paladins in Karasar and Tarasar began to use divine magic in Azadin’s name.

Of course if Azadin who had been despised as an enemy until just now were suddenly told that he was the true God-King and even the Emperor and that they should acknowledge him everyone who heard him would be dumbfounded.

    But the cold became extreme.

A cold wave of unprecedented intensity suddenly swept over the two kingdoms of Karasar and Tarasar and far away in the western sky some witnessed the descent of a terrible monster and the light that defeated it.

Meanwhile some of the knights who were friendly to Azadin were able to use divine magic.

While many people despised Azadin the herald some who loved old-fashioned knightly tales praised Azadin for completing the Erantry quest of the Salvation Knights.

Wouldn’t it be believable if he was a knight who completed the Erantry quest?

Especially among the old-fashioned knights there was a tendency to view anyone who completed the Erantry quest as a noble knight even if they were a messenger.

Divine magic was revived around these people.

And it all fell on Azadin’s shoulders.

As he becomes the bridge between the spirits of Yaegas and the real world a great amount of divine power passes through Azadin’s body and every time Azadin’s body is engulfed in a burning pain.

“Yes. Then would you like to disconnect?”

    Cohen asked so.

If Azadin’s growing fame is a burden to him then what he did was against his will.

Cohen who realized the fact asked in surprise but Azadin shook his head.

“I guess they’ll use divine magic because it’s a necessary situation. If they don’t respond to their call at this time it’ll be difficult. I’ll have to endure it somehow.”

Azadin’s subjects including Zibek and Ismail Niselda who had been watching glared at Cohen with cold eyes.

    I’ll hold on please.

Originally Azadin did not show that his body was injured but now he does not hide it.

It’s not like it can be hidden just because you’re hiding it but I don’t like Cohen for creating this situation.

It’s good that Cohen is preaching Azadin’s achievements widely in order to elevate him to the position of emperor but isn’t this further accelerating Azadin’s attrition?

Although Cohen did it with pure intentions others who remembered his usual scheming ways could not help but suspect ‘This guy is plotting to kill Azadin and take his place.’
