Night of the Soulless Heathens – 47

#47. Aldis 2
Usually people who are active in a guild still have a sense of entitlement that they are not messengers so they cannot treat messengers rudely.
However Salem was a former messenger a high-ranking official and of good family. In his view Azadin was nothing more than a brat who had come through a suspicious route so he was uncomfortable with the mere attempt to negotiate on an equal footing.
But Azadin also felt the limits of his patience.
‘I can’t stand it. Should I just get rid of this author? If I were to be hit by this human nature he would be so ashamed that he would kill himself. But I can’t stand it.’
“Shall we step outside this awning for a moment and talk?”
“Are you planning on attacking me? Even though I’m old I’m not old enough to be defeated by someone like you.”
“If you think so then that’s great.”
When Azadin went out of the shade first the local leader Salem looked dumbfounded.
“You idiot with no brains! Good. I’ll kill you with my own hands.”
It was at that moment that the local chief Salem also got angry and came out of the shade. A faint harp sound was heard from somewhere.
“Is Azadin here by any chance?”
A young beautiful woman’s voice was heard.
“Oh Aldis?!”
Azadin was shocked when he heard the voice.
*********
The one who intervened in the quarrel between Azadin and the local chief was a female adventurer who had brought three horses that were almost out of breath. She looked to be in her early twenties and judging by her tall stature and the moon-shaped palace on her waist she was a messenger.
She was holding a small harp in her hand and the sound of the harp just now was probably played by her.
On his waist is a single sword with a thin silver decoration and on his hilt are elegant pheasant feather arrows. Just by standing he exudes beauty and elegance.
Above all her eyes…were a deep purple. Silver hair and purple eyes. Her graceful figure made her look more like a fairy than a human.
“Ah Aldis.”
“How did you end up in such a remote place?”
All the other merchants except the local chief bowed their heads before Aldis. Even the local chief Salem was paying respect to Aldis.
Although the ranks of the messengers are established simply by filling in the empty positions Aldis is the first messenger. It is no exaggeration to say that he is the person who reached the pinnacle of power and status among the 108 messengers.
“Don’t do that. There are a lot of people watching…”
Aldis said so and approached Azadin.

“Azadin it’s been a while. Should I look up now?”
“Oh Aldis. What happened?”
“I heard that you were fired so I came here from Aranggi without resting. How could you do such a stupid thing?”
Aldis said so and smiled at Azadin.
“Don’t worry. I’ve pleaded with the Great Master. I told him that you wouldn’t betray me. However the Great Master said that he would keep you out of office until he could fix the organization and instead asked me to reassure you.”
When we talk about the great master we are talking about Hatir the current leader of the Herald Clan.
He is the chairman of the council of elders who teaches magic and passes on the ‘Hwajopungwol Haeseo’ and is in charge of all decision-making for the Jeonryun clan.
Aldis has already submitted a petition to the Master…
The medium who was listening clicked his tongue. That’s stupid. This person is cursed but can you feel reassured just by hearing that the curse will be lifted later without any guarantee?
But didn’t Azadin really breathe a sigh of relief when he heard those words?
“Oh that’s a relief.”
“….”
It seemed that Azadin’s trust in this man named Aldis was almost absolute.
‘What the heck? The way you treat other people is completely different.’
As Medium was panicking Aldis handed him a letter from his bosom.
“It’s a pledge signed by Hatir and the other elders. It’s a document that says that the dismissal will be canceled in half a year since it was notarized in front of the Emperor’s voice. In fact I insisted that the dismissal be canceled immediately but the situation in the organization is too big to go back on right away so I brought this.”
Aldis showed it not only with words but also with actions. Even the high-minded Medium could not help but acknowledge the extent of Aldis’ influence within the clan as he had received such signatures from the high-minded elders.
Azadin accepted the oath and expressed his gratitude.
“Thank you Aldis. For going to such lengths… to do such a thing.”
“It’s the right thing to do. Rather I’m worried that everyone is so boring that I might have unnecessarily insulted you Azadin. However please understand Azadin. We are all old and we have a culture of being knights so we are particularly sensitive to hierarchy. After all it’s not easy for us to change the way we have lived since we are old.”

The Aragasas of the Herald Clan were originally a people who excelled in martial arts and archery. However the power that made them known as the God King Slayer was the power of the magic book of the Flower Bird and Moon that the emperor had given them. The person who made the interpretation of the Flower Bird and Moon into a book was none other than Harconia the leader of the first Herald Clan.
Since she was a woman the ‘Harconia Sea’ had a greater effect on women. So the Herald Clan worked together with men with stronger physical abilities and women with superior magical abilities to carry out missions.
In other words ‘The Return of Harconia’ is a title given to the strongest messenger of the time. Before Arael received that title Aldis was called ‘The Return of Harconia’.
Born with purple eyes from the time she was born this girl was a member of the most prestigious Jedaha bloodline among the founding clans and showed skills in magic and archery that no one of her age could match.
So the leader of the messenger clan the great master Hatir took her as his direct disciple and assigned her to a great task from a young age: the task of interpreting the copy of the New King’s Book.
However along the way the copy of the New King’s Book was stolen by Acre. The enraged Council of Elders and the leader cast a curse of service on Acre and pursued him but Acre eventually escaped.
In those words….
*********
A child’s cry could be heard on a desolate road. People heard the child’s cry coming from a dead body on the side of the road and went over to see.
But those who saw that horrible sight were so shocked that they made the sign of the cross and ran away.
“oh my god.”
“I have an umbilical cord from a man’s stomach…”
“It’s a curse! It’s a curse!”
“Oh my God!”
People were horrified to see the man’s stomach cut open and babies inside with umbilical cords still attached. Some were so frightened that they cried.
Acre the traitor of the Herald Clan has been evading all pursuers for the past year but has ultimately failed to shake off the curse.

The corpse of a man who gave birth to a child on the street and died. That was the story of Acre the traitor of the Herald Clan.
*********
“Acre…..”
Aldis now only a twelve-year-old girl climbed down from the Kerim ram and approached the dead Acre.
“Huh. What a pity. I didn’t know that a researcher not a messenger would have hidden such skills.”
Another man Master Hatir narrowed his amber eyes as he looked at Acre’s body.
Acre was not a messenger but a researcher. A magician with a natural talent for interpreting and studying magic. Who would have thought that he would escape and run away again from the messengers’ pursuit? It felt like I had been hit in the back of the head.
“Then these children… are children born with a curse.”
“Yes. It’s the curse of service. I’ve never used it before… but it’s definitely effective. You stupid disciple. How dare you betray your clan with such talent.”
Great Master Hatir did not hide his disgust for Acre.
“But are those kids okay? They seem hungry.”
“It is a product of a curse. According to the service contract… a child born under this curse of service is said to have greater talents than others.”
“Then I should take you.”
“But that could be the reincarnation of Acre. It is right to cut off the blood of a traitor to the clan. And besides aren’t they twins? According to the service contract only one is born with the curse of service.”
“I’ll check it out though!”
As Aldis said this Great Teacher Hatir glared at her.
“The curse may affect you too.”
“He’s still a baby. If we leave him like this he might die.”
Aldis said this and quickly walked over to check on the twins. There were two of them a boy and a girl.
“ah….”
“Why are you doing that? Ah!”
The approaching Great Master Hatir also frowned. One of the two children was missing an eye. Instead of an eye there was only flesh.
“As expected twins are ominous.”
Hathir drew his sword. It was a long blue-tinged steel sword.
“No Master!”
Aldis blocked his way.
“Get out of the way Aldis. These are bad guys. We have to get rid of them!”
“But… there’s no reason for you to die just because you don’t have eyes!”
“Nonsense. How can he live without being able to see? When I think of our Aragasa’s harsh fate it would be better for that guy to die now!”
“But… just a moment.”
Aldis suddenly realized that the children in his arms were looking at his face.
“I can see this child.”
“what?”
“I think I can see even without eyes.”
“What do you mean ‘same?’ Are you lying to me right now out of petty pity?”
“But I can feel your gaze.”
“There’s no way a baby can open its eyes already. Hmm?”
As Master Hatir spoke those words he felt eyes on him. The girl in Aldis’ arms had opened her eyes and was looking at Hatir.
“Wow. Is this child also the Eye of Harconia?”
“Yes. It’s the same color as my eyes.”
Like Aldis the young girl who had just opened her eyes had purple eyes. But there was another gaze that even the great master Hatir could clearly sense. It was the gaze of a boy.
“That’s quite a feat. The cursed children born from the curse of service. Is this a curse that creates an even more superior clan?”
Master Hatir clicked his tongue knowing that both children had extraordinary powers.
“Okay Aldis you take responsibility.”
Great Master Hatir put away his sword.
“I lost my copy of the New King’s Book so I need to take something.”
*********
So Aldis brought Azadin and Arael to the sanctuary. The elders who welcomed her who had suffered all kinds of hardships such as begging for milk feeding them goat milk and changing their diapers were furious.
“These kids might be the incarnations of the Shinwangjinseo! Let’s kill them! If we kill them they’ll turn into books!”
“How could that be!”
“I don’t agree with the delusion that a child can turn into a book but I agree that he must be killed. The blood and flesh of Acre cannot be forgiven even if purified by a contract of service. Punishment is necessary.”
Everyone was heartbroken. The Jeonryung clan had made enormous sacrifices to obtain a copy of the New King’s Book. Many had died while participating in the war for the throne of Tarasar.
I couldn’t help but feel out of my mind when the copy of the New King’s Book that I had barely managed to obtain by sacrificing all my blood gold and everything else disappeared in vain.
