    #456. Weight 7 or more

Azadin continued to move his forward base and entered Naisandhokar which had been taken by the Chitai army.

This time the Cheetah army waited for the Azadin army in the Naisandokhar hills where they could make full use of their mobility.

Azadin’s soldiers had expanded the plains by clearing trees and paving roads through civil engineering work. The area once called the land of Bree and Goblins had now been reclaimed as a place where people could live but Azadin’s vassals were furious when they saw Cheetah soldiers gathered there.

“They are taking over the land we worked so hard to cultivate and defiling it.”

Even Jibek’s words were filled with disgust.

It wasn’t just the inexperienced Celestial Fire who was wounded by the Cheetah’s massacre.

Jibek was also tired of the cruelty filth and extravagance of humans.

“There is no need to hate humans so much. Even priests who have studied well and practiced their whole lives are often ugly when you take off their layers. Aren’t they people who have never studied? The problem we face is how to achieve victory not their morality. If we focus on human morality we will spend all our time feeling disappointed. We need to have a broad perspective.”

Azadin said this to his subjects including Zibek as he deployed his troops.

“We must lower our expectations of humans while also turning toward humans. Each person is a slightly better piece of trash if they learn. If they don’t learn they are just worse pieces of trash. Nevertheless humans are the ones who can save humans. Don’t expect individual virtues but have faith. At least that’s how I lived.”

    “….”

It’s a simple statement but it’s what Azadin who was ostracized even among the untouchable messenger clan said.

It was a statement that made one feel the hardships of the path he had lived and the weight of the ideals he had carried.

“I understand. But Your Majesty are you sure that’s okay?”

“Of course. In order for my words not to be empty words I must bring victory! I will bring victory!”

Azadin himself went to the front line grabbed the Black Horn Bow and shot at the iron bars.

Azadin standing proudly in the lead with a huge black horn bow on top of a hippogriff looked like a hero from the mythical era and both enemies and allies could not help but be captivated.

Moreover the arrows fired from Azadin’s hand were weapons of a different class from those fired from human hands.

By pulling this strong bow that even the herald clan had difficulty pulling Azadin destroyed the vanguard of the Cheetah army’s proud cavalry archers.

For the cavalry archers who preferred the quick mobility of a cavalry archer and the tactic of shooting and then running away the arrows of the Black Horn Bow which had a much longer range and much more powerful effect than their own were a weapon from a different ecosystem.

As the cavalrymen in the vanguard fell those who followed naturally fled to the sides to avoid the fallen horses and riders.

This slowed down the entire army.

    “Now is the time!”

    Celestial Fire runs.

The charge of the Celestial Fire Knights who cast a vitality spell on their horses and charge forward would be overtaken in an instant even by light cavalry.

“Let’s also fire arrows at the very front of the enemy cavalry! Ugh!”

The head of the one who took command disappeared.

Azadin’s arrow blew off the screaming commander’s head.

As everyone was startled and panicked trying to escape the speed slowed down even further.

When the lead blocks the way the middle and rear naturally become stagnant. Celestial Fire struck from behind them.

Once again the one-sided slaughter began.

It is no exaggeration to say that the Celestial Fire Knights who were passionately raised by the Wisdom Order are the strongest heavy cavalry on the continent.

Once the assault was successful no unit was left behind.

“Don’t slaughter the prisoners! Don’t capture them either! Let them live! It’s a waste of time! Don’t waste time pouring hate on each and every Cheetah. Let them learn their mistakes!”

Azadin told his men so and coolly defeated the Cheetah army.

When they sent all the defeated troops back without taking any prisoners the Chitai troops fled to the rear in fear and Azadin’s troops followed them north without proper supplies or reorganization.

“What are you trying to do? This?!”

The reserve force waiting in the rear came out to intercept Azadin’s forces.

But this time too the battle proceeded in a similar manner.

No this time it was worse than the first time.

The retreating remnants of their own country’s army hindered their movements making them even more easily destroyed.

Azadin returned north without taking any prisoners.

At first I thought that the statement that he would neither take prisoners nor massacre would vaguely show Azadin’s weakness but that was not the case.

    “and….”

The soldiers saw it with their own eyes.

The defeated soldiers are herded like sheep before their eyes.

The sight of wounded starving and beggars running away desperately to avoid being trampled by horses’ hooves is truly miserable.

Scatter the defeated troops in this way into the enemy camp and attack while they are in disarray and unable to reorganize.

The defeated and terrified appearance of the defeated soldiers breaks the enemy’s morale and their bodies leave no space to employ enemy soldiers causing the soldiers at each gate to naturally join the group of defeated soldiers.

They advanced without stopping destroying their enemies like a hot knife through butter.

    *********

It took a week to retake Naisandokar and two weeks to enter Chitai territory by attacking and destroying again.

As Azadin himself said he continued to destroy his enemies winning and winning again.

And surprisingly it somewhat satisfied the hearts of those who were hungry for revenge.

Yes. It was the continuous and just victories not the massacre of prisoners but the victories that bravely defeated the enemies on the front lines that healed the wounds in my heart.

“These kids! If you stick to them properly they’ll be useless trash who’ll surprise attack us slaughter the elderly and loot our supplies!”

“You little bastards! You scumbags! You hyenas who live off of corpses!”

The contempt and hatred for the Cheetahs did not disappear but more than that their self-esteem was restored.

We weren’t massacred because we were weak. Our opponents were mean and trash.

That’s why they commit such trashy acts as massacring the elderly and raping women but if they fight properly under the king’s personal rule they won’t be even a match.

It also helped to heal the wounds of the massacred civilians to some extent.

When people were trampled by the Cheetahs’ genocide they were like helpless sheep.

I was a passive being who had to live in despair in this harsh world a world filled with only eternal suffering and a terrible fate.

But when Azadin brought victory the world began to realize that there was not only misery but that the enemies were simply unnecessarily vile and cruel scum.

    We are stronger than them.

Such pride healed people’s wounds and supported them like casts and crutches that replaced broken legs.

    *********

Now Azadin stood before the only trading city in the plains of Chitai.

Not only did they reclaim Naisandhokar but they also invaded Chitai territory swept away the no-man’s land of grasslands while conscripting light cavalry and arrived at a city that could at least be called a castle.

Here Azadin stopped his army and began a brief resupply.

They advanced rapidly while recapturing the supplies of the enemies who had plundered Naisandokhar but they could not just attack the city because it had walls.

Azadin stopped his troops here and only then took a moment to regroup.

Having advanced rapidly and reclaimed Naisandokar in an instant the follow-up force came up to collect supplies from the fallen Chitai army and those remaining in Naisandokar and supply them.

Meanwhile Azadin’s army had been running precariously relying only on the few supplies they had on their horses and the meager supplies from the new supply unit that had followed them with difficulty.

If they had lost even once it would have been a very dangerous gamble that would have resulted in complete defeat but the soldiers who followed Azadin believed that as long as they had their king they could not lose.

    Azadin’s performance was that outstanding.

“Victory is the best drug. But if you take too much of a drug it can harm your body. Let’s rest here for now.”

Azadin let his soldiers rest and looked around at his adjutants.

“Winning is the best drug. But isn’t that because not everyone can get it when they want it? You keep winning and winning and winning… Our worries were definitely foolish.”

Izmila the vice-captain of the Celestial Fire cleared her throat and said.

“To be honest at first I was more disappointed with Your Majesty. The enemies would not hesitate to commit such beastly acts and I was quite disappointed with Your Majesty’s eyes when He reproached us for massacring them. But now I see clearly. It was truly petty and foolish to stay in one place and massacre the incapacitated enemies.”

Before tasting victory when they were still feeling defeated everyone including her was determined to take revenge on the Cheetahs for their massacre and plunder.

Everyone even those who supported and followed Azadin and appeased others felt disappointed in Azadin for stopping such vengeance for massacre and plunder.

In other words at that time no matter how much I tried to persuade him he wasn’t ready to listen.

However when he defeated the enemy’s army in a decisive manner recaptured Naisandhokar and even invaded Chitai territory those who had previously refused to be persuaded even if they died began to praise Azadin on their own.

Azadin did not simply preach his ideals with words and ask people to follow them. He carried the full weight of his ideals on his shoulders and he took the lead carrying the burden of the entire kingdom on his own shoulders.

Even those who had previously doubted and harbored suspicions about Azadin’s true intentions now understood the meaning of the new medicine he had brought.

Azadin spoke to his subjects again.

“The world is harsh and the bottom of humanity is dirty. However it is foolish to try to see the bottom. We should not starve people torture them throw them into harsh environments or confine them in the darkness of ignorance and then justify our despair by exaggerating their shameless acts of evil. That is the attitude of a loser who is desperate to despair. We are human and we must seek salvation among people. Of course there are those who commit evil even when they are well-fed well-clothed safe and peaceful and we must condemn them but we do not have to fall to the same level while condemning them.”

“It is certainly a great word but it is a word that can only be kept while you are victorious.”

“I know. That’s why I will win and win again. I hope you will help me with that.”

In fact what Azadin said was not much different from what it was at first but the weight of his words definitely changed as the situation changed. My resentment toward Azadin disappeared and I felt that what he said was right and that I could support him with my life.

‘Ah we who despaired of the common people’s mediocrity also have thin and light ears. How can we boast that we have better wisdom than others when we can only be convinced by the glory of victory that the persecuted king brought to us by burning his life among those who are despised as soulless impious people the glory of victory that is not entirely ours?’

    Jibek felt ashamed.

And also he was afraid that Azadin’s life was burning.

A person who has lived while being persecuted carrying the country and all its people on his back and being crushed by the weight yet he does not show it here.

Even knowing that fact what was scary was that just as they had felt resentment towards Azadin if things got worse in the future everyone would feel resentment towards Azadin again and might even betray him.
