Night of the Soulless Heathens – 444
by Jessie@AFNCC
#445. Second Winter 1
At the end of summer the clergy of the Wisdom Order ascended to heaven.
Whether it was a last-ditch effort made when they were in danger of losing their stronghold due to the combined attacks of the two sects of Courage and Mercy or the protection of the Nether god reached them at the end of summer all of them regardless of gender or age received the mercy of the Nether and ascended to become servants of the Nether.
The entire old parish of the Wisdom Church was covered in tentacles made of muscle that were over 3 meters long with humans being transformed while still alive.
Fortunately these mutated beings remained rooted in place like trees but a blood-freezing frost fog settled over the parish area of the Wisdom Church and the shadows and laughter of humans continued to echo between the trees made of flesh.
‘I’m dreaming.’
The investigation teams from both denominations reached that conclusion.
Those who were once human have been given the mercy of the Nether and have fallen into a dream where they do not know cold or pain and their true bodies in the dream are these fleshy trees.
In order to find traces of the Wisdom Church damaging the angel statues in order to create corrupted Celestials and to restore the damaged angel statues an additional investigation team was dispatched to explore the Wisdom Church’s parishes but those who entered soon lost contact and none of them returned.
When no one returned alive from their dream world of freezing fog and dream paradise the rest of the sect was shocked and eventually had no choice but to seal off the parish of the Wisdom sect.
It was the tragic end of the corrupted Wisdom Cult which betrayed the Knights Templar and served the Nether’s messenger.
Although Azadin captured Fireglyph he was unable to fully obtain Saint Mallory and greatly damaged the reputation of the Knights Templar so it would not be an exaggeration to say that it was a glorious defeat.
*********
Even if it is a glory filled with scars glory is glory.
News of Azadin’s destruction of the Wisdom Cult and the fall of Fireglyph soon spread throughout the world.
The news also reached Chitai which was at war with Azadin.
At the same time King Nampa of Chitai died and his son Sebalhan ascended to the throne.
“The man who assassinated my father has the audacity to….”
Chitai’s former king Nampa was killed by assassins from the messenger clan.
Although the Chitai attacked Naisandhokar first and committed all the war crimes they could think of such as killing civilians rape looting arson and murder the deaths of their people were an everyday occurrence for the kings.
If the crops fail you die. If a typhoon blows you die. If there is a drought you die….
If wild beasts goblins and bridles run rampant aren’t the people the ones who die?
More than that assassinating the king was an unbearable sacrilege. The king was a descendant of God and killing a god was the same as killing the human soul that the god was supposed to lead.
In addition Azadin insisted on a new drug so now from Chitai’s perspective he had become a monster that he would not be satisfied with killing.
That guy cleverly gained influence over the Rescue Knights and acquired a transportation network.
“Now he’s got a way out?”

The original purpose of Chitai’s attack on Naisandhokar was to cut off the Azadin army’s waist and cut off their logistics network.
However if you have driven out the Order of the Knights Templar from Fireglyph and taken control of St. Mallory you will be able to transport it by waterway directly through the Knights Templar Command rather than through Naisandokhar.
If water transport becomes possible the strategic objectives of the Chitai forces attacking Naisandhokar will be diluted.
“It’s okay. The Wisdom Order hasn’t been completely destroyed yet and if we attack Naisandokhar anyway the back door will be in disarray.”
The Northern Qi envoy spoke thus and carefully examined Sebalhan’s eyes.
Sebalhan glared at the elf woman who was the envoy of the Northern Qi.
Even a three-legged man is not stupid.
‘There are people like the messenger clan under the Northern Emperor? Those foolish vassals are running wild demanding revenge on Azadin but isn’t this just too coincidental?’
It is possible that Azadin sent an assassin to assassinate Nampa the king of Chitai.
But at the same time what about the assassination of Karasar’s Katsym?
No matter how talented the messenger clan is this is strange.
The guy who got ambushed and robbed by the Cheetah sends assassins all over the world?
In reality the one who benefits the most when the kings die and the next prince ascends to the throne is the Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire who supports them.
And now the Northern Qi envoy was talking almost like interference in internal affairs.
“Are you telling me to keep attacking Naisandokhar and knocking on the back door like some bandit?”
“That is in accordance with the principles of military strategy.”
“Oh my? These elf bastards dare to discuss military strategy with me who has inherited the blood of Yaegas?”
“Originally the sage said that when seeking knowledge he did not discriminate between high and low.”
“That is when it is completely wise. Our main force that is attacking Naisandokar now is the nomadic light cavalry but the interior of Naisandokar is full of trees and swamps so the advantage of light cavalry is diluted. The reason we can wage guerrilla warfare is because we are familiar with the terrain of the grasslands adjacent to Naisandokar. If we enter unfamiliar terrain we lose all these advantages. Furthermore although our nomads are used to the cold this cold is special.”
Sebalhan’s judgment was cool.
Even though they were easily beating the Azadin army and winning an overwhelming victory he knew full well that it was thanks to their various geographical and troop advantages.
Why risk going deep into enemy territory and losing that advantage?
“If I were to stir up the rear the Northern Emperor would be happy but when it comes to the Northern Emperor shouldn’t he be dealing with these messenger tribe brats himself?”
“Your Majesty is of course prepared to deal with you in person. However he regrets that he is currently too far away to do so.”
“You say that but I wonder if we’re the only ones shedding blood.”
When Sebalhan became suspicious the envoy looked embarrassed.
‘You are like the king of these insolent barbarians. You put all the plunder you took in your own pockets. The Northern Qi gave you weapons and supplies to fight but you took them and plundered them all yet you are not satisfied. If it weren’t for the support of the Northern Qi half of the kingdom would have starved to death already you barbarian! And you became the king…’
The Northern Qi provided a lot of support from behind to move the Qitai army.
Chitai was indebted to the Northern Qi for such support.
However the Cheetah army forgot the kindness they received and instead thought only of the blood they shed and instead resented the Northern Qi.
But then an unexpected message arrived.
“Your Majesty. An envoy from King Azadin has arrived.”
It was King Azadin who sent the envoy.
“Hmm. You came so quickly? Where did you send it?”
“This was sent by the old rescue team.”
“The Rescue Knights are the envoys. Sounds fun. Let’s send them in.”
Sebalhan ordered the envoy to come in but the person who came in a while later was a familiar face that exceeded his expectations.

He was a priest of the Order of the Knights Templar of this parish.
“First of all I am not exactly a vassal of King Azadin. I am simply carrying out the role of delivering letters according to the policy of the sect.”
The priest who came as an envoy made that point clear.
He said this because he was afraid that the letter he was delivering would upset Sebalhan and he might get killed and it was true.
Azadin attempts to project his will from a distance using the cult’s ancient artifacts.
The clergy of the parish are merely agents not envoys risking their lives to carry out Azadin’s will.
“I see. You’re using a cheap trick. Then you’re just a simple priest so don’t touch me right? I understand. And the letter?”
“It is written in several chapters so the letters to be opened are different depending on Your Majesty’s reaction.”
“What is that? Are you trying to play a joke on me? Hand it over to me.”
“If you do not open them in the correct order the letters will burn and their contents will be lost. King Azadin himself has cast a spell through the mirror.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. Do you think that kind of magic would work on me? If you’re talking about a mirror you mean the ancient object installed in the church? How great is the magic used beyond that?”
Sebalhan said so and forcibly took all the letters from the priest and tried to remove the magic on the letters.
but….
-Phew!
The letter was instantly consumed by the explosion.
“Ugh!?”
Sebalhan lost his hand due to the unexpectedly strong firepower.
“….”
Even though he had cast a spell from a faraway land through a magic mirror Sebalhan was unable to remove Azadin’s spell.
It is now clear who has the upper hand as a wizard.
“No that’s not it. It’s just that I couldn’t solve the problem my opponent gave me. It’s not like I’m inferior to him in any way.”
Sebalhan made that excuse. It seemed like he didn’t want to admit that his magical skills were inferior to Azadin’s.
‘If you hit it that way King Azadin will cast a spell from afar beyond the magic mirror.’
‘It must be quite a shock.’
The vassals who had been watching the envoys of the Northern Qi and even the priest who had just brought the letter all looked at Sebalhan with one mind and one heart although they did not say anything.
“So is this the end?”
“I got another set because I was sure you’d burn them but I don’t have them so I have to bring them back.”
“Bring it.”
At Sebalhan’s command the priest returned to his church and brought back another set of letters from Azadin.
“Would you like to try it again this time?”
“…No just do whatever he says.”
Then the priest opened the first letter.
The first letter read as follows:
[First of all I would like to express my deepest condolences for the death of the former king Nampa. It was not I who killed Nampa but those who recklessly sold my name and profited from it. However you wouldn’t believe me even if I said this right? Holding the real culprit the Northern Qi responsible right now would be an unimaginably terrifying thing for a newbie who has just become king so you can resent me for playing in the palm of my father’s hand and looking easy. A mean nature is common and courage is rare so when a lowly common person commits an ignorant act it is like a child making a mistake so I will not reprimand him.]
“…….”
The priest’s face turned leaden as he read the letter.
The king’s vassals the envoys of the Northern Qi and even the king himself Sebalhan were all shocked.
