    #438. Manifestation of Darkness 1

It wasn’t that hard for Azadin’s party to find their way. This place was originally Azadin’s territory and since the road was paved by Azadin’s army the terrain and surroundings were familiar to them.

The problem was that the Wisdom Order of Triodana had destroyed the sandbar connecting the Chadra Plateau to Naisandhokar and had deployed their forces there.

Azadin was also indignant at the destruction of the narrow path he had worked so hard to build using hippogriffs and dwarf craftsmen.

But the moment he faced his enemies Azadin even forgot his anger.

“This is not the time to feel regretful for doing something bad.”

When we reached the bottom of the cliff we saw Celestials with crimson wings flying in the sky.

It looks like a small dot when viewed from the ground but the sharp-eyed messenger clan and Azadin who was carrying Arael’s voice into the sky were able to see it in great detail and its appearance was horrifying.

The Celestials of Celestial Fire including Karna and Izmilla cannot fly on their own despite having wings.

Although it is capable of considerable gliding its wings are not powerful enough to lift a human body even when wearing armor.

However the red-winged Celestials of the Wisdom Sect were flying freely in the sky and watching the surroundings but their appearances had mutated strangely.

Surely when they first appeared in the world they were like beautiful angels although they were dyed in an ominous crimson color.

But perhaps because some time had passed they had mutated and no longer looked human.

The neck and limbs are long and the wings are also large making it incredibly bizarre.

Instead of feathers small tentacles are tangled together and act as feathers.

However the human form still remained here and there which rather aroused feelings of horror and disgust.

“I was wondering why the Fireglyphs were so easy to defeat… but they can fly freely in the sky.”

Ismail also frowned and checked the fallen Celestials of the Wisdom Order flying in the sky.

“What should we do? Should we fight the guys guarding that bridge and force our way through?”

“No the terrain is too bad. Let’s go through the secret passage first.”

    “Secret passage?”

“There is a separate path made when constructing the siding. It is to be used in case the siding is destroyed.”

Azadin said so and led the group.

Soon the group discovered a gap in the cliff.

There were iron stakes placed here and there in the crevices of the cliff so steep that horses could not possibly climb it and even mountain goats had to be prepared to fall if they tried to climb it.

For ordinary soldiers it would not be a path but for the messenger clan it was a path they could easily crawl through.

The Wisdom Church also did not even post guards perhaps not knowing that this was an infiltration route created by Azadin.

Azadin and the Herald Special Forces released their horses and climbed up the cliff along the path.

“It’s good that you’ve come this far but what happens next?”

Moving on the Chadra Plateau is not easy either.

The Namdongbawi Fortress and Fireglyph are quite far apart.

No matter how fast the messengers are it takes too much time to move on foot.

“Let’s look for a horse. There are enemies at the Namdongbawi Fortress so shouldn’t there be a horse?”

As Azadin and his party spoke they tried to hide themselves as much as possible and approached the Namdong Rock Fortress. The closer they got the more the stench stung their noses.

And the sight in front of the fortress revealed between the rocks and the forest was a truly miserable scene of chaos.

    “Ugh…..”

    “Those damn guys.”

    Seraph and Indim swore.

As the southeastern rock fortress was the gateway to Naisandhokar it naturally had many workers warehouse keepers and traders stationed there.

What had been a once insignificant drug smuggling route had been transformed into a large-scale trading post that had flourished under Azadin… but now it was a horrific wasteland.

Corpses were piled up like mountains and bloody slime was sprinkled all over the place giving off a horrible smell like human flesh was melting into acid.

The skies are filled with fallen Celestials and the ground is filled with human corpses horrifying corpse slimes that grow and grow as they feed on the corpses and towers of bones made from the bones extracted from the slimes.

    It was literally hell incarnate.

Before they were considered a part of the Order of Wisdom but now to anyone who sees them they have become a horrifying cult that is not human at all but a monster.

    “What should I do?”

Originally the plan was to climb the cliff bare-handed and use the town’s pulley to pull the horses up below or steal horses and go to Fireglyph.

However Indim and Seraph who had been through a lot in the horrific scene were at a loss.

    Only Azadin remained calm.

‘The king said earlier that he wished others had seen what he had seen. Could it be that this was the scene?’

Ismail felt that Azadin had foreseen this scene a long time ago.

If anyone had seen this scene beforehand… they would have agreed that all sensible humans must join forces to fight an evil that cannot be communicated with.

This is not the time to stand against Azadin and interfere with him just because he is a herald.

    “Save the horse’s body.”

Instead of stealing the horse Azadin ordered that its carcass be rescued.

Among the piles of corpses was also the carcass of a horse.

As the messenger clan’s men carefully pulled out the horse’s corpse from the slime hole Azadin cast a necromancy spell to make the horse move in an undead state.

    “Wow. Is this okay?”

“It probably won’t be a good ride.”

Climbing atop a rotting corpse isn’t exactly a pleasant prospect but there’s no other choice.

The messengers made a harness out of ropes and put it over the horse’s corpse. They put their feet in the rope stirrups next to it and made the horse run while hanging from the corpse.

Fortunately they were able to secure enough horse carcasses without being detected by the enemies so Azadin and his party crossed the Chadra Plateau and headed towards the Fire Glyphs.

    “shit.”

Azadin looked out over the farms of the Chadra Plateau which had been reduced to rubble.

There are signs of massacre all around.

The Chadra Plateau which Azadin had worked hard to cultivate was once a place full of prosperity but now there were towers made of bones everywhere a sign of massacre.

“Despite the situation the royal family is more focused on ousting the King of the Herald Clan than fighting against evil.”

“In the end they would rather become a servant of the Nether than be ruled by the Heralds. They.”

“But I don’t think this problem will be solved by assassinating Triodana.”

“And honestly I doubt if I’ll die if I stick a black iron sword in it.”

The messenger clan’s subordinates expressed their embarrassment.

If Triodana is at least human you can just shoot the Black Gangjeon to kill him and run away.

But is the current Triodana really someone who can die in one blow from the Black Steel Sword?

Everyone felt that kind of anxiety.

But instead of answering Azadin touched the hilt of his holy sword Aurelia Dunn.

Even though it was contained within its scabbard the blade was burning and radiating hot heat.

    *********

The Chadra Plateau is the world’s greatest granary but it also serves as a place of exile for the Knights Templar.

Because it was a place of exile many criminals flocked there. Life here was not so good compared to the granary area as hot-blooded and violent criminals oppressed and oppressed the common farmers.

It was Azadin who wiped out all that in one fell swoop.

He quickly unified the Chadra Plateau drafting its unruly inhabitants into soldiers and turning them into production bases solely for production purposes.

As many people escaped the clutches of violent gangsters productivity increased dramatically and quality of life improved.

The quality of life also improved as it became part of a legitimate trade network rather than a place of exile as before with more than just daily necessities being traded.

Although the cold was painful when Fimbulbert came it meant that the grain that had been stored up could be sold at a good price.

However the Wisdom Sect suddenly appeared and using the power of flying angels took over Fireglyph in an instant and began to pillage the area.

At first the village leaders tried to negotiate but they soon realized that they were mistaken.

Surprisingly the members of the Wisdom Cult had already taken on forms that were not human.

The Celestials flying in the sky had elongated limbs and hideous appearances and the priests on the ground were not much different from them.

They looked like people wearing masks on their faces and robes pulled down low but when they walked they walked on all fours with their hands on the ground.

Then I realized they had long limbs like some kind of spider.

    And they ate humans.

He drilled holes in the heads of village leaders who approached him for negotiations sucked out their brains piled their corpses into mountains and then melted them into slime.

Terrified residents fled but there was not much to escape to on the rugged Chadra Plateau.

Some fled to the realm of the Sok Lords while others took refuge in the meadows or swamps.

Most of those who were unable to escape were killed.

    *********

    “Hmm.”

Azadin’s party was shocked at the horrific sight they saw as they approached Fireglyph avoiding enemy observation.

Civilians who didn’t need to be killed were killed and carts pulled by people and livestock continued to carry food to the Fire Glyph.

Their goal is to pillage the Chadra Plateau the world’s greatest granary so it’s only natural that the people pulling the wagons and carts look extremely shabby.

If they had worked them to that extent the people pulling the carts would have been killed too.

“I’m just saying this just in case Your Majesty. Our objective is to assassinate Lord Triodana.”

Ismail had warned him in advance. If Azadin were to touch the civilians being abused now Azadin’s location could be exposed.

There was no reason to reveal the location when I came all this way to assassinate him. Regardless of whether people would be sacrificed or not I had to move as quietly as possible.

“I know this very well. Here making a mistake out of pity is truly an evil act.”

Azadin said so and placed Arael’s voice forward.

However contact with Arael’s voice is lost perhaps because of the gust of magical power surrounding it.

    “hmm?”

But then a group of cavalry appeared to be charging towards Azadin’s group.

    “Have you been caught?”

    “No. Wait.”

    Azadin stopped everyone.

    “That’s the Fimbulhorde.”

The undead knights subordinates of Lord Sok were running straight towards Azadin and his party.
