    #437. Kings’ Achievements 4

“The war isn’t over yet and I haven’t even paid you your salary yet so you’re leaving? Even if you’re a mercenary you’re still considered desertion right?”

Azadin was a man famous for showing mercy even to his enemies.

However there was no reason to be lenient towards the elves of the Telvarin Guild who were suspected of being spies and had a bad reputation for slave trade.

If you were to leave Azadin’s army at this time even if you were a mercenary you could be charged with desertion and punished. And desertion during wartime was punishable by summary judgment. This was a good opportunity to question the elves who were already suspected of being spies of the Northern Qi.

“Of course I’m not saying that you’ll just leave. I’ll give you the appropriate compensation.”

    “compensation?”

“Yes. I would like to give you one of Seonwoo’s suns as compensation…”

    “….”

Azadin was surprised when the elves of the Telvarin Guild offered him an unexpected reward.

    Sunwoo’s sun.

It was in Emperor Yaeslat’s report and is currently being taken by the Herald Clan but has not been activated yet.

Azadin tried to negotiate with Sion Ethar to receive the Sunwoo’s Sun but Sion Ethar made excuses and refused to bring the Sunwoo’s Sun.

So the elves of Telvarin have one too?

“That’s surprising. How did you guys get that?”

“That’s because Sunwoo’s sun was originally created by our elves during the Naga Empire era.”

Their words even conveyed a sense of pride in their long history as the original inhabitants of this continent.

“As a reward I will give you Sunwoo’s sun. What do you think?”

“Okay. It’s a done deal. When can I get it?”

“I will send you to the Kingdom of Banling by ship in one month on the honor of the Telbarin Guild. Would you like me to write a certificate for you?”

    “okay.”

Azadin was perplexed by the Telvarin Guild’s offer of a rare magical tool as a reward.

    *********

News of Fireglyph’s fall soon spread throughout the world.

This was refreshing news for the kings and nobles of each country who knew that Fireglyph and the Chadra Plateau were Azadin’s strongholds and who were disgusted by Azadin’s advocacy of a new covenant and his claim to be the king of Banling.

In particular the people of Assander the land of the Northern Qi were so excited that they were obsessed with pounding Azadin in a millstone.

Even now those gathered at Ascendar’s inn were excitedly gossiping about Azadin.

“See? I told you that guy is nothing special. He was just one of many mayflies anyway. Now he’s going to lose everything and fall. How could a soulless blasphemer be king?!”

“A man of low birth has presumptuously taken the throne but his true colors have been revealed.”

“But did he really manifest the light of the King’s Flower?”

    “That is obviously nonsense!”

“And our King the Northern Emperor also manifests the light of the King’s Flower. I don’t know what tricks that messenger clan is using but it is certain that he is disguising himself by transforming his sorcery.”

“The true king is the Northern Qi and the Jeonryung clan is using sorcery to usurp the throne. Rumor has it that the throne of Banryung was destroyed by the mere presence of that bastard.”

At that moment the audience became cold.

“Hey no matter what that’s not right.”

Everyone was willing to listen to the rumor that Azadin was not the true king but was only using sorcery to imitate the light of the king’s crown.

However no one wanted to believe the rumor that Yaegas’ throne was broken when Azadin sat on it.

The throne of Yaegas the pillar of their faith has been shattered while chaos is ravaging the world. How ominous is this story?

Also if there is a being that can shatter the throne isn’t Azadin too powerful even if he is a product of evil?

What people want is to denounce the ugliness of evil in a situation where good is guaranteed to triumph.

But what if evil is stronger than good?

Some of them will not hesitate to switch to a stronger side as if they had always done so.

Since everyone wanted to criticize Azadin to their heart’s content they treated the rumor that Azadin had destroyed the throne as a groundless rumor and continued to spout out ridiculous stories about him.

Everything from the Azadin army’s cannibalism to the Herald clan’s taking of high-ranking positions and indiscriminately killing kings and nobles to Azadin’s marriage to a fellow Herald clan member was subject to criticism.

“Oh these kids. They’re so annoying.”

The northern Aragats who were serving the Assander army were also sitting near the fireplace of the tavern where the vagrants were talking listening to their nonsense.

Although they were vassals of the Northern Qi they were also of the same Aragasa ethnicity so they felt bad whenever they heard such ridiculous accusations against Azadin.

“If Fireglyph has fallen then the commander of the defense force there is Prince Kalintz right? Is the prince safe?”

    “I don’t know that”

“Hmm. So you were helping the prince?”

    “Oh that jerk.”

“With your remaining skills you could have safely taken the prince out right?”

The Northern Aragasa clans held Zan in high regard.

    “…That’s what it should be.”

Most of the northern Aragats loved Prince Kalintz.

Prince Kalintz grew up among the Aragats from childhood and was acquainted with many of the northern Aragats.

However the Northern Emperor did not even recognize Prince Kalintz’s face.

“Cheers to the well-being of the prince.”

The northern Aragats shared a drink to wish Prince Kalintz well.

    “And to King Azadin.”

They emptied their glasses with solemn expressions.

King Nampa of Chitai was furious at the news that his men had disobeyed his orders and been obsessed with plunder only to be defeated by Azadin’s army.

‘Should I go to my parents’ house? No. I told you not to.’

The Northern Qi Cohen Lioness had made a strong request to the Southern Pa.

‘Azadin is the most powerful of the messenger clan and is skilled at assassinating kings and nobles so do not act rashly.’

Nampa’s pride was slightly hurt. He was confident in his martial arts and magic so isn’t it the same as telling him that he is no match for Azadin?

But rather than protecting petty pride a definite victory had to be achieved.

‘If this is the case I will be able to defeat Azadin on my own. Even if I can’t take Aranggi can’t I take Banreung? Will the Northern Emperor approve of that? Well if he doesn’t approve then maybe I will have to split up with the Northern Emperor as well.’

The South had already assumed victory and was concerned about future distribution of profits.

But then there was a commotion outside.

    “…What’s going on?”

    “It’s a fire!”

Flames were rising from the royal warehouse.

A fire lit with a mixture of pine ash and metal powder burns the warehouse violently.

    “No?! What the…..”

As the southern army was panicking a figure appeared on the wall.

“King Chitai Nampa. As the Emperor’s messenger I hereby confer death upon you!”

    “What?”

Nampa quickly cast a protection spell and pulled out the sword he had on his waist.

However the arrow that flew in easily broke his protective spell cut off his sword and pierced Nampa’s body.

    “Ugh?!”

An arrow made of pitch-black steel tore through the southern wave’s protective magic like a piece of paper.

    “What the heck is this!”

Nampa was shocked when he touched the black arrow that had pierced him.

A cold Nether poison emanates from the arrow.

A terrible arrow that rejects magic and takes away life. I had no idea such a weapon existed.

“Poem… The killer of the new king?!”

These were the last words left by King Nampa of Chitai.

    *********

Simultaneous assassinations occurred in the four northern kingdoms of Chitai Assander Karasar and Tarasar.

The messengers under Azadin’s direction attacked the royal palace and succeeded in killing King Katsamem of the southern Karasar of Chitai.

They used the Black Gangjeon a treasure of the Jeonryung clan to kill the king and after escaping from their pursuers they were caught and most of them died without even being able to be interrogated.

A search of their bodies revealed that they were all carrying orders bearing King Azadin’s seal.

In response Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire condemned Azadin for daring to assassinate the king and declared that he would launch the Northern Alliance army to fully destroy Azadin.

    *********

    “There’s something I don’t understand.”

Azadin stuck out his tongue when he heard the news.

He was riding on horseback and leading his troops himself and after hearing the news from Pabal he suddenly asked Ismail.

“Does my existence bother you that much?”

“Why do you ask me that?”

“You and Bukje are similar in type?”

“When did you see that person? And what do you know so much about me?”

“It’s okay so be honest with me. Am I that angry?”

“Well Your Majesty’s presence does get on the nerves of some people.”

    Ismail answered honestly.

    “You too?”

“Yes. A person like me the moment I first saw Your Majesty would have seriously considered selling my soul to the devil if only I could kill this bastard.”

Ismail thought back to the first time he saw Azadin.

“But still how can someone as powerful as the Northern Emperor do something like this? Isn’t this just cutting into one’s own flesh?”

“Perhaps the Northern Qi had originally intended to execute the kings. Unlike us the Northern Qi did not lack administrative power. If they assassinated the kings and blamed it on Your Majesty wouldn’t most of them not even investigate properly and join in the criticism saying that the Jeonryung clan was just like that? The Northern Qi could exert influence on the kingdoms that were struggling after losing their kings killing two birds with one stone wouldn’t it?”

“The Northern Aragasa who killed the king must have been very elite agents. If they didn’t even open their mouths when captured their loyalty must have been high and wouldn’t it be a waste to waste such talented people?”

    “….”

Ismail smiled bitterly as he listened to Azadin’s words.

The Hybris people and the Yaegas god kings would not spare the agents of Northern Aragasa.

Azadin was concerned about the skills and loyalty of the Northern Aragatha agents but that was because he was Azadin.

To the people here Aragasa is just a foreigner who they want to kill immediately whether he is a messenger or not.

“Isn’t talent something that is nurtured for use someday? If you kill the kings and use them one by one you will think it is a profitable business. When Your Majesty shoots arrows doesn’t he care more about the arrows than the target’s life?”

    “Well it’s a shame.”

Azadin said so and caressed the black steel sword stuck in his bow.

“It’s a shame to waste Heukgangjeon since it’s so precious. But I’m not sure if it’ll be okay. In these times…”

    Ismail clicked his tongue.

“If we assassinate Lord Triodana then everyone will really think we killed the king.”

“It’s better to waste your energy fighting humans. Triodana has definitely fallen to the Nether’s clutches. It’s better to assassinate him than to fight Cheetai.”

“It would be nice if other guys thought the same way. Besides there are many guys among our own forces who want to grind up the Cheetah guys…”

Those who survived the horrific massacre by the Cheetah Army longed for revenge on their families.

If I could I would repay you with the same if not even more cruelly.

How strong and heavy are the hearts of those who long for revenge.

“Of course justice will be done. But if you saw what I saw you would understand how I feel. It’s a shame you don’t.”

    Azadin felt sorry.

Before they knew it the mountain paths of the Chadra Plateau appeared before them.
