    #434. Kings’ Achievements 1

Azadin was already at his limit.

Up until now Azadin’s warlords had occupied the Ban Lung Kingdom and expanded rapidly to become the rulers of the south but behind the scenes there was work focused on Azadin.

The work of creating a parliament drafting laws reforming the tax system establishing trade routes distributing supplies rescuing refugees and fighting enemies.

Since Azadin has decided and implemented all of this the burden given to him is enormous.

Of course he selected talented people and assigned tasks to them but even so there were too many things that Azadin himself had to decide on.

For a normal monarch this would have been a great feat even if it took him a lifetime to accomplish but Azadin accomplished all of this in less than two years putting an enormous burden on his already-distressed body.

In the end it was inevitable that Azadin would fall.

    *********

With Azadin down and his advance halted at Sandhokar the Chitai army began to attack Naisandhokar in earnest.

Naisandokhar was garrisoned with over 50000 men and their families. It was a measure taken to make the place where there were no people and where night was a real threat to humans into a human land again.

Azadin hired refugees from all over the place and sent them to Naisandhokar as lumberjacks and recruits where they received the necessary training.

The 50000+ strong men gathered like that were a large army that no king on the continent of Hybris could dare to handle but their fighting ability was actually extremely weak.

Cheetah was well aware of this and launched a brutal offensive.

First they split the light cavalry and infiltrated various parts of Naisandhokar.

In particular the people were enraged by the horrible killings of civilians including families of refugee soldiers women and children working in logging mills and the elderly.

The people enraged by the fact that the enemies who were only a handful compared to their 50000 strong were attacking and fleeing increasing the damage urged Kalan and Legion to retaliate.

Driven by public anger Kallan and Legion began an impossible advance but were surrounded and suffered great losses as they advanced deep into Chitai territory.

The soldiers who were surprised later retreated according to the orders of Legion and Kalan and tried to block the light cavalry of Chitai using the fortress and stockade as a base…

This time the elven wizards of Ascendar appeared.

It was an act that did not even hide the fact that the Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire was behind the Qitai Kingdom.

In the face of a joint attack by the Cheetah Kingdom and the Ascendar Elves of the Asander Kingdom Naisandokhar was destroyed in an instant suffering a crushing defeat in which most of its 50000 strong men were annihilated.

Although Legion and Kallan barely managed to escape and retreat to Sandokar the only people who managed to escape with them were a mere 40 or so soldiers from the Vermillion Fortress days.

This cut off the trade route with the Chadra Plateau the base of Azadin.

Cohen Lioner closed his eyes and meditated.

But after a while he opened his eyes in a cold sweat.

“I can’t use the power of the New King’s Book.”

Then a young woman’s hand touched his shoulder.

Beauties with softly shining golden hair flock around him naked and caress their bodies.

“Of course. You betrayed the spirits of Yaegasu.”

“They will no longer lend you their power. But don’t worry. The white magic of the New King’s Book will be replaced by the green magic power.”

“Hahaha. If you lose your dignity and abilities as a king and fall it will be difficult for us as well.”

They said so and smiled seductively.

Just as one of their hands slid from Cohen’s shoulder to his chest and down Cohen reached out and grabbed her by the neck.

Her neck was instantly twisted by arms as strong as steel and fingers as sharp as iron skewers which could even wring the neck of a bear.

    “Don’t touch me! Hag!”

But what he was left with was not the woman’s body but a horrible swarm of worms and poisonous snakes.

The women who had left his side before he knew it were rubbing their bodies against each other and laughing wickedly.

    “Hoo hoo hoo hoo.”

“I know there are people who enjoy that kind of thing but I don’t think this old lady will be able to participate in such intense play.”

    “Hehehe…..”

They transformed from young women into witches giggling and disappearing into the darkness.

    “….”

Cohen clenched his fists and crushed the insects and vipers he had been holding in his hands then hurled the lumps toward the darkness where the women had disappeared.

    “ha.”

Cohen Lionaire looked around his bedroom. There were bugs and snakes wriggling on every bed.

As descendants of the gods the Yaegasu clan showed clear signs of corruption scattered throughout this bedroom.

    “Shit!”

    Cohen didn’t want this either.

In the past he sought to unite all the faiths of the King’s Church and the Knights Templar into one great union.

To save humanity and leave his name in history he has been building warehouses and stockpiling food for a very long time and has been sending agents and capable children to various parts of the world to plant his influence.

But a sudden appearance by Azadin took away his dream.

And at that moment even if you don’t like it you come to know.

‘I can’t achieve my dreams as long as this guy exists.’

No that’s not all. This guy makes his dreams come true.

Of course if he truly wants his dream to come true he should be willing to have it accomplished by someone else’s hands rather than his own.

But Cohen couldn’t accept it unless it was done by his own hands.

In the end the dream he spoke of was nothing more than the pastime of someone born into royalty.

I say it’s a dream not because I really want to achieve it but because if I achieve it my name will go down in history.

So it was just a dream that I decided on.

‘But then what do I want? What have I been moving towards for so long that it would take an average human lifetime?’

    Cohen Lioner writhe in self-loathing.

On the other hand I feel an unbearable disgust with Azadin due to my jealousy.

Even if it was vanity I could tell because I had been harboring this dream.

Unlike Cohen who only deceived himself for the sake of his inflated narcissism and ambition… those who can truly understand and embrace this dream are infinitely strong and beautiful beings.

More than anyone else Cohen could believe that Azadin unlike himself was a being who tried to change the world for the better through pure kindness and conviction.

    That’s why I’m jealous.

“It was the fault of the Yaegas spirits. They should have chosen me!”

He took a deep breath rationalizing to himself. Black ominous power and green magic began to emanate from his body.

Wild magic and the power of the gods of the Kurt Pantheon took the place that should have been occupied by the white magic of the Shinwangjinseo and the Salvation Knights.

Just then he heard a small bell ringing outside his room.

The servant spoke to me from outside the door.

“Your Majesty we have succeeded in capturing Naisandhokar from Chitai. It is said that we have achieved a great victory.”

“Is that so? Okay I’ll get ready and head out soon. Send a maid in to clean up here.”

    “Yes I understand.”

    “….”

Cohen Lionaire picked up his clothes that were scattered here and there shook off the still writhing bugs and poisonous snakes and put them on.

    *********

Azadin had been suffering from fever and chills for three days since the night he recovered Sandokar.

Even after three days the condition is still not good.

However the situation became such that I could no longer remain lying in bed.

“I didn’t want to show that I was sick.”

Azadin knew that if he did not show his strength the very foundation of his power would be shaken.

But now that Naisandhokar had fallen and Kalan and Legion of Naisandhokar had come to Azadin he could no longer lie down.

So Azadin held a meeting to welcome Legion and Kalan who had escaped alive using his sword as a staff.

Medium assists Azadin with writing and paperwork.

“I would like to ask you to rest a little more.”

“No. Medium. I made this decision after careful consideration. No. There is no time.”

    “…..”

    “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t say sorry. It was my choice.”

Medium wanted to stop Azadin from attending the meeting even in this physical condition but he couldn’t stop him because he knew that the situation wasn’t that easy.

“So what was the situation with Legion Kallan?”

    “Please kill me Your Majesty.”

Kalan bowed down to Azadin and explained the situation.

The Chitai army attacked various places in Naisandokhar with skillful use of light cavalry and there was a situation where the Ascendar elves under the influence of the Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire appeared and cooperated with the Chitai Kingdom army.

The Chitai light cavalry also had a strangely large number of weapons whereas the classic light cavalry was the type that charged with cold weapons.

However this time the Chitai light cavalry used a ‘dragoon corps’ that moved around carrying matchlock guns.

There was even a unit that used horseback shooting to lure enemies such as shooting matchlock guns from horseback and then shooting again from a distance.

The formation of the Chitai cavalry which is an unusual formation for a unit formed by gathering nomads is not surprising. Judging from the massive ammunition and various equipment provided to them it does not seem like a fight waged solely by the Chitai Kingdom.

The Cheetah Kingdom was reluctant to supply firearms to nomadic tribes and had no money.

The Northern Qi the King’s Church and others will join forces to support the Chitai Army.

“I was completely fooled by the Chitai Army.”

“We knew they were using bait but the resentment of the refugee soldiers was so deep that we couldn’t control them.”

It was impossible for Kallan and Legion to control a large army of 50000 soldiers in detail.

In a situation where there is a shortage of trained officers and non-commissioned officers refugees are indiscriminately turned into soldiers resulting in a shortage of mid-level officers but an abundance of regular soldiers.

That was the reason for the crushing defeat at Chitai.

“Wow if it was normal it wouldn’t have turned out like this. The Legion Captain was originally….”

    “Stop it.”

When Legion’s adjutant came to Legion’s defense Legion became enraged.

Originally Legion was a mercenary captain who had firmly established his position among the fierce mercenary groups.

The means to protect that position is to make an example of those who try to climb up by brutally killing them.

In fact until then Legion had always made sure that any of his subordinates who dared challenge him met a horrible death.

But this time that wasn’t the case.

He knew very well how precious those refugees were to Azadin so he held himself back for the sake of saving the king’s face.
