    #43. Curse of Service 5

Azadin was indignant but no matter how angry he was there was no change to the fact that if he stayed still he would die from the curse of service after a year.

“In the end the only way to survive is to ask the leader to withdraw the dismissal.”

“Yeah yeah. That’s a smart idea.”

“Yeah right. Why don’t you prove that you’re innocent?”

“Ugh. This is so frustrating. How can you tell me to die if I can’t prove my innocence? This is truly a genius way to motivate people. Huh?”

    “We didn’t do it.”

“Don’t be angry with us. We’re not feeling well either.”

“Hey you guys just treating me like a dog when you were little should be enough to castrate me. Yeah?”

    “Eek…..”

    “Castration? Isn’t that too cruel?”

“I was loyal to the organization but now they’re trying to kill me for my sister without asking any questions. Am I not being so cruel now? I was originally a sensitive boy. I was a sensitive boy who served the Archangel of the Trinity! But if you keep acting like this you’re going to turn me into a cold-blooded and vicious murderer!”

Azadin was so angry that he even considered killing his seniors Celebre and Adan. Even though they were his seniors he had no good memories of them at all. Rather he only had a grudge against them that he would not mind chasing after them and killing them with a packed lunch.

But if you think about it calmly you shouldn’t kill your clan if you want to get dismissed and apply for reinstatement. Besides this is a village. It’s a commercial area with caravans so there are a lot of people coming and going.

    “Ugh. Hold on.”

“So what I’m saying is that they’re being taken away by us….”

“No I don’t want to be your achievement. I’ll break through with my own skills.”

“But the order has been given to arrest or kill the clan. Are you really going to fight every clan member you meet in the future?”

“If you say you don’t want the ball you’re lying but you have to catch it to go safely! The other clans might kill you!”

Calibre and Adan tried to persuade Azadin but he refused.

“If I were caught helplessly would the leaders and elders acknowledge me? They’re not awake enough to admit that they made a wrong decision. They’d rather kill me and bury me. So I’m going to appear before the Salasma District Chief on my own. In the meantime I’ll kick the butts of anyone who gets in my way. Come to think of it the only people in the clan I wouldn’t feel bad about kicking are Aldis and the Master. The rest of them don’t matter! I’ll kick them all the way to the moon!”

Midiam and Ismail looked at each other.

‘This guy is the type of person who can’t see what’s in front of him when he gets angry. This is a big problem.’

Ismail thought so but Medium shrugged.

“I guess we have to do that much.”

Medium was already siding with Azadin.

    *********

Celebre and Adan watched Azadin closely.

    “Okay then.”

“Are we just sending them off?”

“I’ll let you go but if you gather other guys and challenge me again it’ll be a headache. I see that an order for my dismissal and arrest was just issued through the contact network right?”

    “uh.”

“We are already badly injured and are in no position to fight again anyway.”

“But you bullied me when I was young right? When I think about that….”

There is ample motivation to harass this side as well. When Azadin said so Adan and Celebre nodded their heads.

    “That was our fault.”

“Just think of it as a childhood mistake.”

    “Hmm. Childhood mistakes?”

    Azadin shrugged.

“Okay. I also have a favor to ask.”

They needed people to take the children rescued from the oven keeper’s house to Baroness Nort. When Azadin asked them to do this both Celebre and Adan nodded. They didn’t know what Azadin would do to them if they refused.

“Anyway I will also report that the Emperor’s voice defended you.”

“Yes yes. You are the epitome of a herald. Otherwise the Emperor’s voice wouldn’t have come out like that under duress.”

    “We will testify.”

Adan and Calibre begged for help and put the children on the cart of the merchants’ guild. Whether they were doing it sincerely or just flattering to survive Azadin let them go knowing that the two were clearly no longer a threat due to their injuries.

“Then let’s hurry up and meet with the Salasma Regional Director first.”

Azadin who was cursed with service was now anxious.

“Don’t worry. I’ll show you around quickly brother.”

Tarki took the lead and began to lead the way.

    *********

Although Azadin calls him an illegitimate child Tarki is indeed a nobleman.

Even though he was the illegitimate child of Count Kazel the Margrave of Salasma Tarki’s mother was the daughter of a baron and was wealthy. Otherwise she would not have been able to hire a mercenary group of about 20 people.

So Tarki was in a different position from other illegitimate children. Although he was born from a concubine’s wife he could become the head of the family if all of the children born from the wife died.

There was a reason why he felt wronged every time he was called an illegitimate child. That was why he easily passed through the gate within Salasma’s sphere of influence.

“I am Tarki son of Count Kazel! I have urgent business to attend to so get out of the way!”

Neither the security forces nor the vigilantes of the gate dared to spit on him a knight. Perhaps because he had already passed through this place when he led his mercenary group on an expedition the people of the gate immediately recognized Tarki.

    ‘Oh did you come again?’

    ‘What about the mercenaries?’

‘I don’t know. I hope I get killed by some monsters somewhere.’

‘Even if that’s not the case didn’t he just run away after taking the money?’

‘Damn you bastard. You don’t even get to die.’

The townspeople and the gate soldiers were secretly cursing but they quickly opened the way.

“Huh huh huh. Did you see? The identity of this body?”

Tarki was initially timid but after passing through several checkpoints with his own face paint he began to become more and more confident.

    “It’s definitely comfortable.”

Azadin acknowledged that point. He also understood why Tarki was dissatisfied with being called an illegitimate child.

“A man who tried to plunder the people is a knight of the noble class. This is the end of the world.”

Thanks to Tarki the passage through the gate was faster so the speed naturally increased. Before we knew it the party was able to enter the area near Salasma.

    *********

Salasma was a city of about 3000 households and its surrounding farms and had been prosperous since ancient times due to its large copper mines.

As we approached the nearby farms and villages of the city the number of pedestrians passing by increased dramatically. As the number of pedestrians increased the number of merchants coming and going also increased.

    “….”

Azadin clicked his tongue as he felt eyes on him from among the procession.

‘The Corasar Bobusang Guild. They must know of the order to kill me.’

The messengers were passing by and discovered Azadin.

    “Hey who is this?”

    “Isn’t that Azadin?”

They approached Azadin as if they were friendly people. They were of a higher rank than Azadin but Azadin had never met them before during their training period so he did not know them well.

    “Excuse me who are you?”

Azadin asked that question sincerely not with the intention of mocking. Azadin was a famous person among the messenger clan so he was immediately recognizable but they were not so they had no way of knowing their names. However it seemed to stimulate their complex.

    “No this kid….”

“Aren’t you bragging too much about being lucky enough to become a messenger?”

Perhaps he hated Azadin because he was a messenger without any skills. Then Tarki stepped forward.

“What are you guys doing? Do you know that I am Tarki the son of Count Salasma Casel and are you talking nonsense?”

    “….”

“How dare you lowly merchants meddle in my presence? Why do you meddle in my company?”

    “No sir.”

    “I was wrong.”

No matter what their true nature was their external status was that of merchants. They could not act violently in front of people in front of Tarki a knight.

“If it ends with saying you did something wrong why would there be a royal law?”

    “….”

    “Hmm.”

They looked at the people passing by. There were quite a few people walking around. Farmers carrying vegetables on oxcarts shepherds leading goats and farmers carrying farming tools on donkeys. There were also vendors selling bread and tea with advertising flags on their backs.

It was impossible to kill Tarki in front of these people. They bowed their heads like ordinary merchants.

    “Please forgive me.”

“We did not know your majesty because we had not been educated.”

“Hmm. Is that so? This old man is a little thirsty right now. Please do some charity to quench his thirst. If you keep on doing charity won’t you be born as a noble in the next life?”

    Tarki joked jokingly.

    “….”

Azadin and Midiam Ismail looked at Tarki in confusion.

    ‘Is this kid any good?’

Azadin who had been ignoring Tarki all this time liked this appearance. His acting was quite good.

    “….”

    “Here it is.”

The peddlers reluctantly took money out of their pockets and gave it to Tarki who was blatantly asking for money.

“It’s not enough. I wonder if this is enough to satisfy my thirst or thirst. I can’t expect much from you. Go. I will be lenient and forgive you.”

    “Thank you.”

As the peddlers retreated Tarki looked at the people around him.

“What? Did you see it? Or would you like to do some good deeds for the elders?”

    “Oh no.”

Everyone stood aside as if running away from Tarki who was causing trouble in the middle of the street.

“You’re good at acting but you’re an illegitimate child? I saw you again. Your acting skills are amazing.”

Tarki shrugged as Azadin exclaimed in admiration.

“What? I wonder if this much will be enough to cover the cost of the food. Should I also take some more from the other guys?”

    “No that’s not necessary.”

    “How about him?”

    “uh?”

Azadin looked puzzled as Tarki pointed to other merchants coming from the opposite direction. This time the merchant he was pointing to was not a member of the Herald Clan but just a regular person.

When I found out it turned out that Tarki was just acting like he always did causing trouble for the merchants and taking their money. He wasn’t trying to help Azadin by acting like he was trying to it was just his usual behavior.

‘Oh this kid. I praised him for nothing.’

When he was fired and the curse of service was activated he was angry but Azadin is fundamentally a devout believer of the Archangel of the Trinity. He is inherently good-natured so now that his anger has subsided he has no desire to bother the strict people.

    “Oh over there Azadin?”

    “hmm?”

Medium brought Azadin’s attention to him.

    “Over there…..”

    “ah.”

Azadin saw a group of armed men approaching ahead. In the lead was a young girl in full armor riding a horse followed by three armed men and women.

They were very active in harassing pedestrians but they noticed this and were approaching us.
