    #419. Tempest 8

Lord Maya knew that her revenge was futile.

As Azadin says her father Lord Gareth massacred innocent civilians.

Of course it wasn’t done with malicious intent. It all started out as an accident.

However in order to cover up the incident Sir Gareth took the initiative in massacring civilians and was killed by Azadin in the process.

After learning that fact she began to doubt her will to follow Jecht and pursue Azadin.

Realizing that following Jecht around would only lead to him committing an even greater sin by becoming entangled in the dirty magic he casts he gave up on revenge and decided to return to his original duties.

However she could not return to the position of chief secretary she had previously held.

With the death of King Korasaar and the devastation of the kingdom’s capital Koral Sahar by the Nagas her position as a civil servant was effectively lost.

Eventually with nowhere to go she became a wandering knight and ended up falling ill.

Vision of Destruction. After seeing a vision of the world dying and being reborn anew she became sick with a fever.

I ended up getting caught in an elemental wailing spell.

As her body’s skin petrified and began to release magical powers she was on the verge of death unable to do anything. At that time the forces of the Northern Qi of the King’s Church came to her and gave her a vial containing angel’s blood.

After drinking it she was enlightened and reborn as a crimson Celestial.

“What kind of revelation was it?”

Azadin asked the crimson-winged Celestial Maya.

“We have seen a vision of destruction. The world will die and be reborn. It will be a new ideal world where there will be no hunger or cold where everyone will be completely happy. A true paradise will come under the watchful eye of the Great One’s will. But before that an impudent adversary will prevent the coming of paradise and stain this world with evil. That adversary is you.”

    “Me?”

“Yes you arrogant adversary. You will boast that you are chosen by God and perform miracles. However it is not the will of the Great One but the schemes of evil demons.”

Maya saw in the revelation that Azadin was a presumptuous adversary and in that moment she was deeply convinced.

It was discouraging to Meiya that Azadin had been right and that her father had done dishonorable things just as Azadin had said.

But if Azadin is an impudent adversary the story is different.

What he says is worthless and it preserves her father’s honor. If not the gods have given her permission to take revenge on Azadin and given her the strength to do so.

Previously I had no choice but to follow whatever Azadin said because I lacked the strength but what if she had the strength to push through her own claims?

“After all you only believe what you want to believe. Hey are you sure that the Great One who gave you the revelations is not some evil demon but a true god? And since when did the knights of the King’s Church start worshipping some shady being who speaks to them in illusions as their god?”

When Azadin asked Maya she was speechless.

The law of the King’s Church says:

Do not believe in the beings who come to you from the darkness who speak to you through illusions and hallucinations. Instead believe in the wise gods the god-kings who have flesh and blood.

This was a law to protect the members from the temptations of the Kurt gods and the Nether messengers during the past when the Hybris continent was called the Dark Continent.

This was to guard against the easy creation of followers by suspicious external entities speaking to an individual and showing him miracles.

That was also the reason why Azadin had an indifferent attitude when he actually performed miracles in the past.

“Don’t be fooled by the suspicious beings who approach you and tell you that you are special. The real miracle is not contact with beings who are beyond humanity. Isn’t this something that the King’s Church and the Knights Templar have explained to their believers time and time again?”

    “joy….”

Maya snorted as she listened to Azadin’s words.

Although they teach it that way it is in fact no different from a Buddhist teaching.

Many people are thirsting for miracles and revelations and isn’t Azadin one of those miracle workers?

“The people say that you were chosen by spirits and angels. The heretical teachings and books that you preach are also claimed by some foolish people to have been written by angels and spirits. So aren’t you also a false prophet who sells miracles?”

“I am not correcting the shallow beliefs of the masses for the sake of proselytizing but for me a miracle has already happened. I was born on this earth and inherited the will for virtue and truth so when people meet and share good will that is the real miracle. I wish you knew that too but it is a pity.”

    “it’s a shame?”

“Yes. It was not my intention to harm you. However the power that transformed you belongs to the Nether Reaper. I still doubt whether you are fully human or not.”

Maya and the Crimson Celestials all had visions of destruction.

And the revelation that followed was the hand of God. It must have been the power of the Nether.

Will those who have been tainted by this power continue to remain sane? In fact Maya was always consumed by hostility and madness toward Azadin and only after she was defeated and captured was she able to stabilize somewhat.

“I feel sorry for what happened to you.”

    Azadin finished questioning Maya.

And at the same time Maya’s body began to stiffen.

    “Ugh?! This is ridiculous…..”

    Elemental Whaling accelerated.

    *********

    “This fucking dog…..”

Azadin came out after finishing his interrogation with Maya.

    “Your Majesty! All the prisoners….”

Starting with Maya’s petrification the other corrupted Celestials simultaneously went berserk as Elemental Wailings.

    “Eww!”

Suddenly the magic stones increased and the entire underground prison of Bisen turned into something like a crystal cave.

The guards were so shocked that they had to run away.

Azadin also fled down the stairs to avoid the elemental wailing stones that were swarming him.

“Oh my god how could this be happening…”

    “What’s going on?”

The final outbreak of Elemental Wailing began not only in the dungeons but also in other parts of the city where corrupted Celestials were held in separate confinement.

Transparent magic stones like crystals grew covering and destroying the building.

    “Are you alright Your Majesty?”

Jecht who was waiting outside the dungeon met Azadin and asked him.

    “Huh.”

“Why are you like that? I don’t think so but are you hurt somewhere?”

“No actually it’s because someone ruined the life of a young lady who was no different from a civil servant by seeking revenge but I think the person involved is fine.”

“Haha. I guess you wouldn’t be a good boss Your Majesty. If I were a normal human being wouldn’t I feel resentful the moment you said something to me? Isn’t this just making more enemies by engaging in an emotional fight that won’t make you any money?”

    Zect secretly threatened Azadin.

But Azadin wasn’t fooled by Jecht’s words.

“So you Jecht didn’t you make enemies by doing whatever you wanted without even earning a single penny? When Lord Maya and those Bisen guys hit you in the back of the head you must have felt emotions.”

“That’s definitely true. I’m reflecting on myself realizing that I’m still young.”

Zect accepted it with a deft expression.

“Anyway what’s clear is that the beings who made them Celestials consider Your Majesty a thorn in their side. I wondered why they rebelled in a place like Bissen when there would be no end in sight…”

Bissen is a mining city that cannot be self-sufficient so it cannot survive without trade.

The reason they went to great lengths to revolt against the Kingdom of Banling one of the few trading routes was because those who had received revelations from the Great One regarded Azadin as some kind of demon lord.

“I envy you. The fact that evil beings fear you so much means conversely that you are truly the divine king chosen by the Yaegasu spirits.”

“Is that something you would like to do?”

“Isn’t that why they were deceived by that shallow revelation in the first place? No one dislikes revelations and elective prophecies that make them special and different from others.”

“I am not very happy. We must leave this place Bissen and return to the kingdom as soon as possible.”

The problem is that Azadin has no one he can trust to take care of this place.

It took a day to capture the city but it took much longer to take inventory and process the supplies after the capture.

The governors and officials who had participated in the rebellion had to be investigated and tried and a new ruler had to be installed.

There is no one I can trust with this kind of work.

A person like Selim whose loyalty is certain is incapable of running a city and checking the ledgers and those who have such abilities are from the Jecht or Herald clans making them difficult to trust.

‘Seraph is capable and flexible. It would be great if we could entrust him with the city but it’s a place where resentment is already strong so if we appoint a Herald as governor there’ll be chaos. If we’re going to entrust a Herald to a person of talent we should do it after things have stabilized. We also have to consider the possibility of the people turning against us when there’s a problem with food supply.’

For that reason Azadin was worried about what to do with Vissen.

It is good that the power has grown rapidly but it is suffering from a lack of talent.

    however…..

“This is a big deal! Your Majesty!”

A messenger came to find Azadin.

“…Is it always a big deal?”

Azadin snorted annoyed at hearing bad news from messengers and couriers.

Azadin has already experienced the assassination of King Karnago IV of Arangi. There is no reason for him to be surprised by anything so trivial.

But this time the story was different.

    “Count Evecheck has been assassinated!”

    “what?”

This is definitely a big deal. Count Sandokar Ivechek is the last of the Yaegas clan and is by no means a weakling.

    But assassination?

    “The assassin?”

“It’s the thief Camilla! She led a force of werewolves to capture Sandokar and slaughter the entire Count Ivechek family!”

    “….”

Azadin clicked his tongue when he heard that.

From the beginning I knew that the female thief Camilla was hiding something and that she was a member of a wild magic group called the Witch’s Coven.

However Azadin believed that she would be able to control herself by her own will regardless of her origins and transcend the orders of the witch order.

Of course instead of deploying them to Naisandokar or Sandokar where the power of wild magic was strong he sent them to St. Mallory the headquarters of the Rescue Knights and ordered them to scout out information there.

Regardless of whether you believe it or not Shade Hag and Chuck Jin Azadin could be attacked by the wild magic forces at any time.

    So it’s a choice….

Could it be that she would leave her position with Azadin and kill Count Ivechek?

The ‘Great Ones’ who were clearly gods of the Nether created the crimson Celestials and commanded them to start a rebellion within Azadin’s territory to stop him.

And the betrayal of Camilla who was from the witch group of Wild Magic.

In this situation where the survival of humanity on the continent is at its limit supernatural forces are all at once hostile to Azadin and are blowing a fierce storm.
