    #409. The King’s Mission 1

Indim and Seraph were checking the fallen monsters.

    “This is the Rescue Knights?”

“Yes. They are from the Order of Wisdom the Order of the Knights of Salvation. No they are from the Order of Courage.”

Sabbath guide Heine frowned as he noticed the rosary hanging around the corpse’s neck.

“The Triodana of the Wisdom Order rose up claiming to have received a revelation of salvation. The Wisdom Order appointed him as a Knight of Wisdom and after that the people of the Order degenerated into these monsters. They called it the gospel.”

“How funny. Those who serve God are the first to fall into corruption.”

“It is because we are waiting for the voice of the gods. We are desperately longing for salvation hoping that the gods will speak to us and reach out to us so even if the gods of the Nether whisper just a little those who are waiting for the voice of the gods will be deceived. Or maybe they will be deceived even though they know everything. I feel the wisdom of King Azadin who was chosen not telling others.”

“This is not the time. There will be more pursuers. Let’s move.”

Seraph decided to leave immediately in case of any pursuers.

Fortunately the territory of the Kingdom of Banreung was not too far away.

    *********

As we entered the territory of the Kingdom of Banreung a warm aura emanated from the ground surprising everyone.

The people who had been suffering from the bitter cold for so long could believe that this alone was enough to prove that the King of Banreung was exercising the rightful light of royalty.

A warm atmosphere spreads over a 1000-ri radius centered around the throne of Banreung.

Of course it was colder than usual but it was a pleasant warmth compared to other places.

“This is the kingdom of Azadin. How amazing.”

Midiam Etar was amazed at the prosperity of the Banling port and the heart of the capital city of the Banling Kingdom where many carts came and went.

She had been studying drawings of each city but this was her first time in the capital of a properly functioning kingdom.

“By the way I don’t know if this is a rude question but what is your relationship with King Azadin?”

The Sabbath leader Heine asked Medium.

    “I am his disciple.”

    “student?”

“Yes. The messengers of the messenger clan form a team and operate under their apprentices…”

“I see. But he seemed to be moving alone. Of course he had Chadra’s soldiers and heroes with him but it seems like there were no people from the Herald Clan.”

“That’s because… he was being persecuted among his own clan.”

    “Is that so?”

Heine was surprised to hear that Azadin was persecuted even among his own herald clan.

“It’s an unbelievable story considering the royal aura he displays now. He has won over many people and made them his allies. He is truly a heroic figure…”

    “Isn’t that so?”

“Tch. What a sudden rise to fame. He was a failure in his clan’s training and now he’s the King of Heroes.”

Indim who was listening became annoyed.

    Ismail sighed.

    “Your Majesty Indim.”

“Leave it alone. We’ve given up on everything.”

Seraph said this as he saw Indim getting irritated and jealous of Azadin.

“Then I will try to have an audience with King Azadin. I am worried. Normally I would have to apply for an audience with the King through the headquarters of the Knights of the Salvation Order in Banreung but as of now I cannot trust the headquarters of the Knights of the Salvation Order. In particular the Celestial Fire is a false angel created by the Northern Emperor and its leader Lord Karna looks like a twin to Lord Triodana so I should keep in mind that he is a spy of the Northern Emperor.”

“Then should we just sneak in? Surely that Azadin guy wouldn’t treat us the seniors of the clan badly just because he suddenly rose to fame?”

    “….”

“That kind of thinking is the most dangerous. Do you know who the person who becomes king wants to purge the fastest? A guy who acts like he’s an adult because of his relationships before becoming king. And we didn’t do anything for him as a senior did we? We never bullied him because we’re different generations. Since we’re not close we should be even more formal.”

    Seraph stopped Indim.

As someone who is supposed to stand above others no matter what their past may be I cannot tolerate someone who is overly friendly and undermines my authority.

Even if you approach them out of kindness if they act without any sense of distance you will want to purge them. But isn’t it true that Indim doesn’t do it out of kindness?

“The way I know him if you ask him to meet you he’ll meet you right away. Don’t worry about it.”

    Ismail said so.

“Azadin is a messenger who has completed his training as a classical agent. He would not refuse the opportunity to gather information.”

Indeed it was as he said.

As soon as they requested an audience the soldiers rushed to the sound booth.

The brass pipes that the dwarves had made transmitted sound quickly so it wasn’t long before permission was granted to come up.

“Come! I will guide you to His Majesty!”

The attendants approached but they did not even disarm them.

Midiam Ethar was the daughter of the Ethar clan one of the most prestigious families among the herald clans but as a noble family in the middle of the countryside she was surprised by the scale of the huge royal mountain castle built in the dwarven style.

As she followed the servant’s lead to the king’s audience room she was filled with awe and wonder.

Heine smiled at the innocent look.

And after a while a servant called them from in front of the audience room.

    “Please come in.”

    “yes!”

Medium answered excitedly even though there was no need to and followed the servant into the audience room.

The King’s Throne Room built in the Dwarven style had stone walls lined with columns with battlements built between the columns. Between them stood the King’s bodyguard the Dwarven Musketeers and Blunderbuss.

Azadin’s subjects and subordinates were waiting along the silk slabs that led to the throne in the magnificent and spacious audience room and Azadin was sitting on the throne wearing a golden crown on his head. He looked so solemn and dignified that one would not think of him as a persecuted outcast from the herald clan.

He was smiling and welcoming them with a dignified appearance as if he had been born to be a king.

    ‘I heard the story.’

Medium Etar looked at Azadin’s gaze and was confused.

I heard that Azadin’s eyes were restored by Indim and Seraph of the Flower Bird and Moon.

I heard that Azadin became a different being through the fusion with Arael and that Arael’s eyes were transferred to Azadin…

‘You’re much more handsome than I thought. No rather than handsome what is it… You look like an angel.’

There was a beauty that made one feel as if it were a higher being perhaps even a different species rather than a human.

Arael’s magical beauty which made both men and women go crazy and even caused the Herald Clan to rebel remained intact in Azadin making Medium excited.

    however….

“Um… Medium. And Indim and Seraph.”

On one side of the audience room surprisingly Zion Etar and his men were standing there.

    “…uh?”

“Oh really. You came. Medium. Ismail. And Indim and Seraph. I heard the story. You rescued Medium and on your way back you also rescued the people of the Order of Mercy? That’s great. I’ll give you the dwarf Gulden as a reward.”

The attendant gave Seraph and Indim a sack of gold coins.

They were bags containing 50 Dwarf Guldene gold coins each and now that the economy is in ruins they are a steal compared to their value during the heyday of commerce.

However the fact that the king officially gave them a bribe means that the Kingdom of Banreung acknowledges their existence.

Indim and Seraph gladly accepted the gift.

    “thank you.”

“But. Why is Zion Etar here?”

    “….”

Seraph wanted to stab Indim in the side for talking nonsense but unfortunately there were too many people watching.

Even if you are curious isn’t it impossible to ask the king directly when you are meeting him?

    But Azadin nodded.

“I bet you’re curious about that. Okay. Let’s put aside the pretense and move.”

Azadin pointed to the conference room next to the audience room.

    *********

The good thing about being a king was that people came to him.

Now those who needed him came to him on their own to provide information and make petitions without him having to run around sweating on his own feet which made Azadin who had to travel hundreds of miles in a single day to respond to others’ petitions feel a sense of change.

But it’s not all good there are just too many people coming.

“Your Majesty the manager of Van Dyke Trading Company has arrived.”

    “Is it Delia?”

“Yes. And she is requesting an audience with her superior.”

“A superior? Hmm. Okay. Let’s meet. Oh no no. Let’s go straight to the conference room.”

Azadin agreed to an audience with Delia after hearing that she had come with her superior.

The news that Bishen had rebelled against Azadin and defeated Jecht reached the King’s Church.

Delia the manager of Van Dyke’s store came with a guest.

The guest was surprisingly Sion Ethar an elder of the Ethar bloodline and the current most powerful member of the Herald Clan.

“Congratulations on your great achievement King of Banling. Your Majesty’s great achievements are shaking the entire continent.”

“Don’t say things that are not in your heart. What is going on Zion Etar?”

“I heard you wanted to see me. Actually….”

    Zion Etar looked around.

This is the king’s conference room.

Unlike the open throne room where many troops could escort the king this place was created so that the king could have private conversations with those he trusted more.

‘If you weren’t going to make a secret deal with me you wouldn’t have called me to the conference room instead of the audience room in the first place.’

Sion Etar smiled inwardly knowing that Azadin wanted something from him.

“But still what a sudden visit. I thought you would go through a process of coordination with each other but I didn’t know you would come in person like this. And it seems you brought a considerable number of assassins with you. Even one or two Aragasas are scary.”

Azadin being an Aragatha was well aware of their danger.

Even children have the innate strength and spatial perception to handle a bow that adults can handle.

And the innate magic book that the Emperor bestowed upon their bloodline.

Each and every one of them is an outstanding warrior having received assassination training from childhood for the future of their clan based on their innate physical strength and power.

If those with such dangerous powers entered their territory no one no matter how dangerous would be able to sleep soundly at night.

Zion Etar mobilized a large number of messengers apprentices and servants and brought them into the Kingdom of Banryeong.

It would not be an exaggeration to call this a total force of the Etar bloodline capable of assassinating national figures in an instant.
