Night of the Soulless Heathens – 408

#408. The Age of Revelation 9
“The foresight still doesn’t work. And I can still feel the poison coming from them like it’s stinging my skin?”
Even though I had shot them with arrows and knocked them off their horses I could still sense the venom from those riders.
A poison that prevents even the foresight system from functioning properly. No matter how you look at it this is no ordinary human being.
“I know that too. I guess I should protect these nuns and give them to Azadin as a gift.”
“I don’t think he’d kick us out even without presents but it wouldn’t hurt to prepare a lot of presents.”
Indim and Seraph intended to protect these rescue knights and do Azadin a service.
“Thank you. If I can survive and see King Azadin safely I will definitely testify to your devotion.”
“Yeah that’s it.”
Indim and Seraph glared at the enemies pursuing them.
The riders approached their fallen horses.
Is it to euthanize the suffering horse by cutting off its windpipe?
however….
-Crack!
The riders stepped on the horses’ necks with their feet.
Amazingly even from this distance blood was spurting and the horse’s neck was being cut. Is it even possible for a person to step on a horse and cut off its neck?
What was even more surprising was what happened next.
The decapitated horse rises and the riders become one with the horse fastening their bodies to its neck.
The lower bodies of the riders had transformed into hideous tentacles that dug into the severed necks of their horses transforming them into grotesque beasts.
“Hey Sabbath-bringer Heine! This is the miracle and revelation we have received!”
“I want to share this good news!”
The riders approached with voices full of joy and making strange remarks.
It was so bizarre and terrifying to see him approaching me with genuine joy and enthusiasm not as a trick to deceive.
Doesn’t that mean they feel like it’s a real miracle or happiness that they’ve become such monsters?
“Oh my god.”
Seraph stuck out his tongue as he watched the approaching monsters.

Azadin summoned the Archbishop of Banling and showed him the murdered body of Bishop Bissen.
The horribly mutated corpse shrivels up but its grotesque appearance remains intact.
The Archbishop of Banreung was startled.
“What the heck is this?”
“He is the Bishop of Bissen. But it’s hard to tolerate him pretending not to know.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Stop being so ignorant. There’s no way you didn’t participate in the bishops’ meeting right? And I don’t think there would have been enemies deployed to Bissen so quickly if it weren’t for the magic mirror ritual that the sect monopolizes.”
“Please forgive me Your Majesty. It’s not that I harbor any ill will…”
The archbishop immediately bowed his head.
“Then tell me exactly what happened at the bishops’ meeting? Why did you suddenly betray Vissen and why were you able to make these preparations?”
“Yes of course.”
Archbishop Banreung immediately explained the situation.
“The story began when the King of Kings the Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire testified about His Majesty Azadin.”
*********
In order to bring the church to his side the Northern Cohen Lione testified that Azadin was the chosen one of the spirits of Yaegas.
When Azadin sat on the throne of Banreung the great spirits of the Yaegas clan acknowledged Azadin as the rightful owner of the throne bestowed upon him the original copy of the Book of the Kings and charged Azadin with the mission of protecting the people of Hybris.
At first the priests thought he was joking.
The Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire was a figure who enjoyed the support of the Church of the King of Kings.
But how can you testify that it was Azadin not you who was truly the chosen one?
It was a statement that only someone in their right mind could make.
But the North Je Cohen Lioness asked.
‘Does the true king need you? Will he forgive you now that you have now changed your attitude having previously blasphemed him as a soulless blasphemer?’
‘If he is a true king then he should naturally cooperate with the church.’
‘Haha. How ridiculous. Put your hand on your heart and think. Were you truly faithful priests? While the world was in this state? And were the other kings of the Eight Thrones truly proper kings and priests? You cannot say so. Otherwise the world would not have become this way.’
As Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire said the existence of the Chosen One was proof that the priests and other kings had been just as careless.
‘Fortunately I too have been given power by the spirits of Yaegas. But it is not because I am good. Azadin he rejected some of the missions given by the spirits of Yaegas. In response some of the spirits gave me power instead of him… I too will be able to show miracles. So the only way for you Bishops to survive is to follow me.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘We must cooperate with King Azadin even now.’
A few priests insisted that they should cooperate with Azadin once they learned that he was the rightful king and not an invader of Banling.
But among those many bishops few responded to their words.
‘You don’t know. Do you really not know why King Azadin the true lord of the throne is not allied with your clergy and is preaching his own doctrine? He plans to purge the clergy. He was able to spend so much because he was planning to take away the food you have amassed through private means.’
‘Huh? That’s….’
Even the clergy who insisted on siding with Azadin were left speechless.
‘What if we purge the King’s church clergy who have been hoarding food? He has a justification and a mission.’
‘….’
The Northern Qi Cohen Lionaire fanned the clergy’s distrust of Azadin.

The majority used their positions to force merchants who were unwilling to sell to buy food.
The merchants were hoarding and the priests were also robbing the merchants and joining in the hoarding causing food prices to skyrocket to absurd levels.
What if Azadin condemns the clergy while requisitioning it?
He is already the chosen one of the gods of Yaegasu. Both his reputation and his practicality are perfect.
When I think about it that way it makes sense why Azadin despite being chosen by the gods of Yaegas did not announce it publicly and kept his distance from the king’s church.
however….
The Northern Qi made a big mistake here.
It was a mistake to think that the clergy of the King’s Church were vulgar people who loved only power and had no love for God.
The Northern Qi also looked down on the current clergy as mere vulgar people who only cared about their own wealth and well-being.
*********
“Isn’t that true?”
Azadin who was listening to the story asked Archbishop Banreung a question.
“That is precisely the arrogance of the supermen. The conduct of the clergy is so flawed that you think they are charlatans who have no faith at all. And yet they have true faith.”
“If you have faith you should have done what God told you to do. Do you have faith when the people are being plundered abused and sacrificed to the whims of the nobles and priests and you ignore that and even take the lead?”
“To be exact it is the wish that the gods love and choose you. It is unreasonable to ask people to live well according to their faith but it is sincere to love the faith itself. Then can we continue the story?”
“I’m sorry. I cut off your pulse.”
Azadin apologized to Archbishop Ban Lung and listened to his story again.
*********
‘Why did the gods choose such a lowly thing even though I devoted my whole life to them?’
Of course the lives of priests were never that pious or beautiful.
Like murderers who blame their victims they exaggerate their suffering and devotion beyond their own faults and become jealous envious and disappointed with the gods’ choices.
As many people began to pray fervently Jupiter’s power grew stronger and the boundary with the other world became blurred so the gods began to respond to their prayers.

“Since that day there have been many bishops who claim to have witnessed miracles. Perhaps that is why?”
“You kept your mouth shut about such an important matter to me.”
“Hahaha. You can’t dare to spread unconfirmed rumors in front of the king can you? There must be more than one or two people who claim to have received revelations. In fact before I witnessed this I thought everyone was just hallucinating because they couldn’t stand their inferiority complex. But now that I look at it this really is a miracle. That’s because the miracle was not performed by the gods of Yaegasu but by unidentified messengers.”
“Even so if priests of the bishop level were saying such things wouldn’t it have been okay to at least give them a heads up?”
“Your Majesty sees me as nothing more than a common priest so I am not in a position to give you advice on this or that. Despite this I welcome King Azadin’s liberation of this land and his becoming its true master.”
How could I tell you about such trivial things if you don’t keep me close to you?
Archbishop Banreung answered with a smug expression.
“So. Didn’t you receive revelations from other gods?”
“Oh yes. I just know my subject well.”
The Archbishop of Banreung was a vulgar man but he was not as shameless as the other bishops.
He knew very well that he would not be chosen by God since he had committed all kinds of sins.
‘But is that worse? Because you have no desire to improve yourself?’
It is a time when heterogeneous gods give revelations about the origins of humans.
Archbishop Ban-Ryeong’s materialism which does not covet the spiritual realm but only seeks material things seems truly trustworthy but completely useless in this situation.
“Archbishop Banreung is doing a pretty good job with his missionary work.”
Zibek hinted that he had read Azadin’s mind.
In spreading the New Testament of Azadin the help of such experienced clergy is essential. Ironically the best missionaries are those who are least interested in spiritual matters.
“Okay. I hope you will continue to provide me with a lot of help and guidance in the future.”
“Never mind. Every day I serve the rightful king chosen by the spirits of Yaegasu is a great joy to me.”
Archbishop Banreung said so and withdrew.
But then as Archbishop Ban-Ryeong stepped down this time Sir Ismilla rushed in.
“This is a serious matter Your Majesty.”
“What’s the matter Sir Ismilla?”
“The old Knights Templar have declared a miracle at St. Mallory’s Church of Wisdom!”
Winter continues and the days of revelation and miracles have arrived.
