#400. The Age of Revelation 1

Former Inquisitor Jecht who had come under Azadin’s command led his forces to a reversal and headed towards Bisen a province of the Kingdom of Banling.

It was to rescue Visen from the ogre and goblin Bree army that was attacking Visen.

“It’s a good thing he left with his men. All of his men were under the spell of the Nether the Bloodsuckers. It’s a terrible spell that forces them to obey the orders of the one whose blood they are. If he can cast it on a hundred men then he must be Lord Jecht but it must also be said that the darkness is deep.”

Jibek was secretly relieved when Jecht led the bewitched soldiers to rescue Visen.

When in the King’s Church even if Jecht used witchcraft it was a problem that could be suppressed by the church’s reputation and prestige.

However if Jecht uses sorcery in Azadin’s military it will become a personal flaw for Azadin.

Jecht also knew this and volunteered to go on an expedition to Bissen in order to consume the troops under the spell.

“I know. This is true. It’s necessary but it’s also painful.”

    Azadin frowned.

Those who have been cast into a spell by Jecht cannot be completely rescued.

When the blood-sucking parasites that have entered their bodies are surgically removed the human host dies in excruciating pain.

The only way is to use the power of healing to burn the parasite with powerful white magic but it is already too late.

Lord Jecht believed in the parasite’s dominance and did not supply food to the army. They were already dead but thanks to the parasite’s life force they were no different from living zombies. If he burns the parasite now they will die too.

In other words Jecht went out to rescue Visen with these people who were no different from an army of undead.

“What do you all think about Ject Kyung joining?”

“Everyone thinks badly of it. And I do too.”

Not only Jibek but also the Chadra Ogels who had been loyal to Azadin for a long time opposed bringing Jecht into the army.

Because Azadin offered the throne to Jecht in order to attract him it was an act that went beyond the reward of merit.

No matter how great Jecht’s bloodline is isn’t it too much of a high position to promise a stone that rolled in from outside compared to those who have been with Azadin since he was the commander of a small insignificant fortress?

And Jibek opposed it not because of the rewards but because of Zect’s character.

“He is a noble bloodline who is closer to the king than anyone else but he is full of inferiority complex. He is a person who is convinced that he has superior abilities than the existing kings but at the same time he is a person who is not satisfied. Even if he becomes the king he will be happy only for a short time and he will soon realize that he wanted the throne only to relieve his inferiority and jealousy. When that happens he will definitely cause bigger problems. This is because he is not a person who is satisfied with peace. He is a person who is not good to be close to.”

“I agree with that point but if he becomes so peaceful that he wants to betray that will be a success. And when I promised him the throne I said it was when he could sit on the throne and control it. Do you all understand what that means?”

Zect can’t control the throne. That’s what Azadin was saying.

“Is that so? But what if….”

“If I can control it I will gladly accept it. It is a heavy burden for me to carry alone. The more pressing problem right now is the food shortage.”

    Azadin trembled with fear.

“Human schemes are easy. What is truly frightening is Fimbulbert and the food shortages it will bring.”

“And it must be the people’s private interests. It’s still the beginning of winter and already people are starving to death.”

Fimbulbert began this fall when the autumn harvest was finished so there should be enough food to last through the winter but hoarding was already rampant and the king and nobles were fighting among themselves causing people to starve to death here and there.

In this situation Azadin’s forces released too much food.

“Honestly I should have fought a bit to get here but everyone gave in too easily. I didn’t know that King Arangi would suddenly want to make a marriage of adoption. If this continues won’t the King’s Church also acknowledge me? I intentionally wrote the New Testament declaration to be very aggressive but if they do acknowledge me then things will be really hard.”

Azadin trembled in fear that the king’s church would acknowledge him.

“Surely that would be the case?”

Jibek looked dumbfounded at Azadin’s absurd worries.

“No. Jibek. I don’t know. People in this world are much weaker towards the strong and stronger towards the weak than I thought. My attitude when I feel weak and my attitude when I feel strong are clearly different. If you peel back the layers of the priests of the King’s Church they’re all cowards.”

“But isn’t that teaching a tradition that has been passed down for hundreds of years? It won’t be so easy to break it.”

“I really should. We’ve made too many bloodless incursions so far. Even if we steal the hidden wealth of the Dwarven Arrow and secure grain from the Chadra Plateau it’s hard to feed the people while spreading the religion and expanding the territory. And I can’t just give drugs to people with my own hands if I call myself king.”

Much of Dwarven Arrow’s hidden wealth consisted of drugs or gold. Now that Fimbulbert was expected the value of gold had plummeted and was worthless. Nevertheless Dwarven Arrow’s hidden wealth was of great help to Azadin as he had stockpiled a considerable amount of alcohol weapons and various metal ingots.

Dwarven Arrows were also used to store ingots of metal such as tin zinc and copper just like gold or silver for fear that no one would think they were dwarves and these were useful even in the Fimbulbert situation.

And there were drugs but these were things that Azadin couldn’t solve.

In case of emergency it is stored without being incinerated for medical use.

“What if we cut food rations and stop accepting refugees now?”

“If we do that now those who have supported us all this time will immediately turn their backs. We will lose everything we have gained in a short period of time.”

As Azadin spoke a messenger came running from below.

    “Your Majesty! I found it!”

    “You found it?”

“Yes! Your Majesty’s hired Sellswords or rather warriors have discovered the Emperor’s treasure vault deep within the heart of the mountain!”

“Ah. That’s great. I feel relieved now.”

Azadin breathed a sigh of relief.

    *********

The messenger family as the emperor’s closest associates confirmed that the emperor had spent a huge amount of his wealth to build treasure vaults in various places and stockpile something.

The legend of the emperor’s treasure and the mint that produced the emperor’s gold coins was passed down through him.

But when Azadin went to the first floor of the treasure vault he felt something strange…

There are records that it was clearly made with a huge budget but I wondered what was included.

Emperor Yaeslat believed that his reign would be eternal and his lifespan was one of the longest among the Yaegas.

The fact that he died without even deciding on the successor to the empire is more likely due to his divinity being too excessive and his body being unable to withstand it and sublimating.

As his power as a Yaegasu god grew stronger he became more and more oblivious to fleshly desires and the world even refusing to eat or drink.

After the death of his lover and leader of the Herald Clan Harconia the Emperor lost interest in the world and passed away.

What on earth did such an emperor leave behind in his treasury?

The answer was right before my eyes.

    “These are… seeds.”

Delia the manager of Van Dyke’s Trading Company who came to appraise the treasure vault upon hearing the news that it had been opened stuck out her tongue.

    “That’s right. That’s unexpected.”

Azadin smiled bitterly as he looked at the Emperor’s treasury which contained all kinds of seeds.

The emperor also anticipated Fimbulbert and compiled and stored food and books as well as agricultural methods and technical books of the time.

But the strength of that prediction is enormous.

It contained farming manuals seeds samples of farming tools and dwarven smelting techniques perhaps with the intention of rebuilding after most of the people had died and civilization was destroyed.

“The Emperor wished that this treasure vault would open after more people died. This is truly a grand scale.”

Based on his experience when he first accessed the Emperor’s Treasure House Azadin suspected that the Emperor’s Treasure House was not a place to store magical treasures or weapons but rather a facility designed to respond to the crisis of humanity Fimbulbert.

The Emperor had foreseen and prepared for a much grander future than anyone had anticipated a future in which humanity would be destroyed and rebuilt.

Azadin was taken aback by the harsh prediction.

If the Emperor’s prediction is correct this is a place that should not be opened now.

“Still there is a huge amount of grain in reserve. If this much grain had been available on the market in a normal year grain prices would have plummeted and farmers would have been in tears.”

Delia checked the supplies in the warehouse and stuck out her tongue.

“It is a tremendous value at the current market price. I could easily buy one or two castles. Congratulations King Azadin.”

    “….”

    It’s not something to celebrate.

Anyway Azadin has to use up all the grain that comes in.

What bothered him more than the wealth and power that the grain would bring was the harshness of the emperor’s prophecy.

“By the way what’s that empty space over there?”

Azadin pointed to an empty space in one of the granaries. There was an empty space with a cart-sized piece of equipment.

“This is where the magical tool called Sunwoo’s Sun was located.”

“Sunwoo’s sun? What is its function?”

“It’s a magical tool that can grow crops underground by artificially emitting light. However it has already been taken out. This treasure vault has already been opened once before. There were traces of the dwarves of Banreung digging a tunnel next to the treasure vault and robbing the tomb. They came looking for gold silver and magical treasures but they seem to have been disappointed because all they found was grain.”

“Seonwoo’s sun wasn’t in Banreung… Where did it go?”

Azadin looked at Delia asking a question.

Delia let out a long sigh at the gaze that seemed to expect her to tell the truth.

“Yes. To tell the truth my clan accepted the request of the old dwarf king of Banreung and received the fee for the request.”

    She confessed the truth.

“The Herald Clan took it? Hmm. I guess they don’t plan on farming in the sanctuary.”

“I guess you’re thinking of building it. If you can use that magic tool to farm in the sanctuary then when Fimbulbert ends our Aragatha will be the only force left intact.”

“And you’re going to rule over an empty continent? That doesn’t make much sense does it? A king of an uninhabited island?”

“Worst case scenario that’s what I’m saying.”

Delia felt a sting when she said that.

It was because he was still looking at her with questioning eyes.
