#368. Call of the Throne 6

Everyone was so shocked that they were silent for a moment.

You tried to use the magic of wishes to achieve only height?

    “Really?”

“Yeah. Do you know how much dwarves feel inferior about their short stature?”

Dwarves are a hard-working race with strong bodies who dig caves in the mountains.

But they were a lump of complexes.

They felt proud of their ancestors and their bloodline but on the other hand they felt humiliated by the fact that the Yaegas gods who easily merged with the elves refused to merge with the dwarves.

They thought all this was because of their small stature so they easily fell for Griselda’s tricks and caused a major accident by casting a wish spell.

“They were trying to seize control of the world devastated by Fimbulbert by becoming beings more advanced than the current dwarves through the magic of wishes.”

“I don’t think this problem will be solved by growing a little taller.”

“But the dwarf king Manawidan has used the magic of wishing to become a completely different being than before. He actually rules over the throne and the throne radiates pale white magic.”

“It can’t be because you’re tall. How are you ruling the throne?”

“They must have used the blood of the Yaegas gods. The dwarves transformed all the Yaegas gods into horrible forms and pinned them to the crystal throne. They are very cruel aren’t they?”

    “Ugh.”

When Griselda said that the dwarves were cruel Bernard and Niselda were shocked. No matter how cruel the dwarves were they would not stay silent after hearing such words from Griselda.

But Azadin continued his interrogation paying attention to the surrounding noise.

“Do you know the outline and phrases of the wish spell?”

“Huh. You want to use it? That’s stupid. Do you know how many elemental wailing patients I had to grind just to activate it once?”

“I’m not trying to write. Just an outline is enough. I’m trying to research coping strategies.”

“…It would be impossible for an ordinary wizard to study the countermeasures just by knowing the outline. Are you that great of a wizard? Given your age and knowledge I don’t think so.”

Azadin’s swordsmanship martial arts and information warfare skills were all areas of skill that were difficult for someone with innate talent to master even if they were taught strictly.

It’s hard to understand how someone could learn this level of skill and excel at magic on top of that.

Azadin smiled bitterly at Griselda’s words.

“You were given the lives of two other people. What an extraordinary birth.”

“I see you have a story. Okay. I’ll tell you.”

Griselda gave Azadin a rough theory and outline of the wish spell.

“I’m not an expert on grimoires but you can probably tell what kind of characteristics they have right? If you really want to take away the wish magic take it from the dwarf king. The grimoire is stored in a book. However the wish magic currently composed is mediated by the blood god of the Nether Ashajit so you won’t be able to handle it. Even the dwarf king Manawidan has changed into someone completely different from his original personality which is very strange.”

“Thank you for your concern. Is that all?”

With this Azadin obtained most of the information he wanted from Griselda.

But just in case Azadin asked another question.

“Do you know about Sunwoo’s sun?”

“Of course. Hmm. But that seems to be a separate issue from the fight between you and the dwarves. I fell for your sweet talk but I don’t intend to be fooled to that extent. Beat the dwarves torture them and hear from them. Or what? Are you sure you won’t let me live?”

    “That can’t be.”

Azadin made that clear. Given Griselda’s wrongdoings and her thirst for power and pleasure he could not promise to spare her life.

‘You’re an old-fashioned guy. What’s so hard about offering to spare my life even if it’s just a lie? But at least you won’t execute me as Aurelia Dunn.’

Griselda was disappointed by Azadin’s words that he would not spare her but at the same time she felt relieved.

After finishing the interrogation Azadin looked back at Bernard and Niselda.

“Okay then… let’s decide what to do with her.”

“Are you giving me the power to decide?”

    “It must be us.”

Bernard’s hands trembled as he listened to Niselda’s scolding.

“I am not Griselda’s victim. I have decided to kill her because she has invaded Bishop Achenar and committed other evil acts but I am not in charge of a punishment worse than death. But aren’t you the parties involved?”

Shall we torture Griselda? Shall we humiliate and insult her?

Azadin was asking if he would torment Griselda with a punishment worse than death.

This was a truly cold gaze.

This is because it acknowledges that death is not the end of all punishments but rather that even the death penalty is a light punishment that can be felt as pain contempt and humiliation.

    Bernard clicked his tongue.

“I don’t know. I never once resented her. I was her slave and I even abandoned my daughter to escape her shackles.”

“It would be a lie to say that I don’t resent it but if you think about it it’s not that hard to understand. I guess I just seemed like one of the countless daughters of Griselda…”

Surprisingly Niselda understood how Bernard must have felt at the time.

Even if they didn’t know what had happened to them in the past both Bernard and Niselda could tell that the mere mention of it to Griselda was causing them terrible pain.

“A punishment worse than killing her… Of course I wish for it. But on the other hand I am not in a position to wish for such a thing as I am a shameless coward who abandoned my daughter and ran away. So I will leave the judgment to Niselda.”

“That’s really cowardly Father. To push such a decision on me.”

Niselda clicked her tongue at Bernard’s choice.

“I want revenge. Even if I were to burn that greedy monster to death with Aurelia Dunn right now it would not burn even one ten-thousandth of the crimes it has committed. I could try to make it suffer humiliate and shame it and I would get a little bit of justice…”

    Niselda shook her head.

Currently Azadin and his party have escaped through the dwarves’ secret passage to interrogate Griselda.

Even at this moment the Celestial Fire Knights’ attack and the dwarves’ defensive battle to stop it are continuing creating a chaotic situation.

There is no time to waste on torturing Griselda here.

“I don’t want to see her suffering and rejoicing in it. I beg you to kill her cleanly and suffocate her.”

    “Ah. Shit.”

Griselda clicked her tongue as she listened to Bernard and Niselda’s words.

“I’m really going to die like this? Here me?”

Griselda was secretly hoping that by buying just a little more time Manawidan and his dwarves would discover Azadin and his party giving them an opening to escape.

Since Captain Iak of the Guard is dead it is only natural that the dwarves will investigate the surroundings and if they are hell-bent on torturing him out of revenge the traces of that will naturally be revealed.

But surprisingly they suppressed their desire for revenge and chose quick and clean annihilation.

    “then.”

Azadin took out the Qing executioner and struck Griselda’s temple horizontally.

It was a kind of mercy that sought to destroy the brain and cause immediate death without any pain.

However the blue executioner who would activate a left-right thrust when cutting flesh blew up Griselda’s head making for quite a gruesome sight.

    “…..”

Bernard and Niselda let out a long sigh as they watched Griselda’s head explode and her body fall down.

“Are you okay? Do you have any regrets?”

    “I don’t know.”

“Something. It feels a little different from what I imagined.”

“I’m sorry. I had to please her to get information out of her. If I had provoked her she would have been angry and I could have killed her more enjoyably. Like burning her to death with Aurelia Dunn.”

Griselda was a terribly evil vampire and burning her to death with Aurelia Dunn would not have fully atone for her sins.

However Azadin could not insult and abuse Griselda so much when she had made a deal to get the information he wanted from her and had faithfully complied with the deal.

If he had intended to torture Griselda he should not have asked for a deal in the first place.

“I would have felt better if I had tortured him mercilessly toyed with him and then killed him.”

Azadin speaks in a tone that is hard to tell whether it is sincere or sarcastic. Bernard and Niselda are deeply impressed by Azadin’s words thinking that he has led them in return.

“No Count. I don’t think that torturing her would have made me feel any better. I’m just at a loss as to what happened in an instant after such a long wait.”

“I would like to thank you again Count for fulfilling my long-cherished wish.”

Niselda simply drew her own sword and handed the hilt over to Azadin.

“Count Azadin. I pledge my eternal loyalty to you.”

Azadin shook his head at her words.

“Eternal loyalty is too much. Be careful with your words. If you’re unlucky you could be bound even after death.”

“If it is your path Count I would gladly accompany you even after death.”

“I don’t want that. And I didn’t do it just for your sake. So if you really want to show me your gratitude don’t be loyal to me personally but rather engage in virtue.”

“Haha. Okay. But please take my sword. This is quite an embarrassing act.”

Indeed Jibek was staring blankly at Niselda and Azadin and their eyes met.

Why do you look so envious?

Under that gaze Niselda urged Azadin on.

“You said you were embarrassed? What will you do Count?”

“Ah. I guess there’s nothing I can do.”

    Azadin took her sword.

“Nisselda of the Chadra Convent. With your courage and wisdom practice mercy and be faithful to virtue in this land. Let us lift up the sword together and cultivate virtue together.”

“Yes. My sword will accompany you on the path you illuminate.”

Azadin made a vassal pact with Niselda and gave her back her sword.

When the vassal contract was concluded Niselda rose in joy.

“I didn’t know joy when I killed Griselda but now I finally feel joy. Ah. It was long. It’s like the hand that was strangling me has been removed and now I feel like I can finally breathe. It’s all thanks to you Count.”

“That’s flattering. And I hope you keep in mind that we still have a long way to go. Okay?”

Azadin was suddenly startled when he tried to stop Niselda from giving him a condolence speech.

    -Shhh!

An arrow flew with a sound like the wind was tearing.

Azadin struck the first arrow and caught the second.

A skill of the herald clan where two arrows land almost simultaneously.

    It was Lee Seon-gung.
