    #361. Grim Reaper Rampage 5

The Yetis the servants of the Wendigo the Nether’s reaper ran up the snow-covered ridge. In Banryeong the Yetis were intercepted with cannons and Ashajit’s servants charged at the Yetis shaking their tentacle- and blood-veined bodies.

Wendigo’s followers and Ashajit’s followers clash.

The clash of monsters shakes the earth’s axis and a loud noise stabs the lower abdomen.

As Azadin watched the scene he suddenly turned his gaze towards the Rescue Knights’ camp.

As expected there was chaos on that side too.

The Wendigo’s followers the Yetis appeared and ran wild. No to be precise the Wendigo’s followers rose from there and charged towards the heart of the mountain.

“Damn it. This little guy is Triodana!”

Azadin groaned as he realized roughly what had happened.

    *********

Celestial who took the form of an angel was supposed to be an undefeated icon.

Because we must become the hope of humanity in this harsh age of Jupiter Fimbulbert.

But even Celestials die when hit by a cannon.

The power of the fortress cannons defending the heart of the mountain the capital of Banreung caused even the Celestial Fire Knights to lose their lives.

The reputation of Celestial Fire which had been considered invincible until then was beginning to show cracks.

This was a bad omen for the Northern Qi and its children.

This was because there was Count Azadin the Wind and Cloud Margrave a rival of the Celestial Fire Knights.

‘The messenger clan the soulless blasphemous the terrible killers of the god king. The emperor’s followers who go against the order of the Yaegas clan.’

Azadin was the one who had to endure all kinds of humiliation simply because he was from the messenger clan.

However Azadin was not at all discouraged by such a starting point and conquered the Chadra Plateau and received the title of Margrave of Naisandhokar protector of Sandhokar.

Even though he was a soulless blasphemer of humble birth the tales of Azadin’s exploits and his tales were heroic tales that excited the hearts of bards and poets.

And so before he knew it Azadin had become a being that attracted as much attention as the entire Celestial Fire.

If we’re going to be picky Celestial Fire is getting a lot more favorable reviews but if we look at the numbers of interest they’re equal.

One person alone commands as much attention as the entire Order.

In such a situation if the Celestial Fire Knights suffer an irreversible failure all of the people’s support will turn to Azadin.

“I have to admit it. Count Azadin is a hero of his time.”

    Triodana honestly acknowledged Azadin’s existence.

“That’s why we shouldn’t get caught up here. It’s a loss we can laugh off now but if things get any worse than they are now while we’re still lingering in front of the fortress if Count Azadin succeeds in the Erantree quest….”

Even if I assume a case like that my body trembles just thinking about it.

When I think about what will happen next I can’t stand the fear of Azadin.

“So. Are you suggesting that we assassinate Count Azadin?”

Karna Triodana’s brother and the leader of the Celestial Fire seemed skeptical.

“No. Assassinating the messenger clan would be unrealistic. Instead of doing something stupid like assassinating an assassin I use this.”

Triodana pulled out a dagger made of bone and showed it to me.

“It’s the divine water of the Nether. It’s definitely the Age of Jupiter…”

Even just looking at it from a distance you can feel its powerful force.

“What on earth do you want us to do?”

“With this I’ll make a Nether clan. I’ll throw that clan as cannon fodder. Just because it’s Banreung doesn’t mean there’ll be unlimited gunpowder and shells.”

The biggest problem in conquering Banreung is that the fortress cannon is mounted on a well-built dwarven fortress.

Individual force is of no use in the face of the cannons firing from the fortress.

Of course since the gunpowder consumed by the cannons is expensive if you continue to launch attacks you will eventually run out of gunpowder…

Even in the past Syphilis War Banreung defeated the Arangian Guards with the power of the fortress.

But what if you could throw non-human beings as cannon fodder?

“Summoning the Nether’s vassals with our own hands? That’s even more foolish. After all that dagger was the one that brought the icebergs to St. Mallory and the nearby seas. Is it okay to use the divine waters of a being hostile to humanity?”

Karna was worried whether Triodana was sincere. But Triodana shrugged.

“This has been approved by the Wisdom Order. If you control it with enough magic you will be able to control this Nether Reaper’s followers. I have even received the magic formula from the Wisdom Order.”

Triodana unfolded the book. It was a ritual tome containing instructions on how to create powerful amulets that could even control the power of the Nether’s reaper.

“You got the approval of the Wisdom Order? Could this be your father’s will?”

The Wisdom Order of the Knights of the Salvation Order had in fact degenerated into nothing more than a private organization of the Northern Qi Cohen Lione.

In other words having the approval of the Wisdom Order means that there was an order not permission from the Northern Qi Cohen Lione.

“I will conduct the ceremony Karna. You just need to help.”

“I hope that the spell still holds up in this age of Jupiter when Netherstrom is weak. I’m anxious.”

Karna had no choice but to give his approval for Triodana to manipulate the divine waters of the Nether.

If the Wisdom Church had any sense they would not have approved something they could not control.

It was something I did with that kind of thought in mind.

However the power of the Nether in the Age of Jupiter had grown even stronger and the Wendigo’s dagger was now incomparable to when it was first obtained.

The Wendigo’s dagger which Triodana believed she could control with her magical knowledge and talent quickly went berserk.

Even if Triodana did not want it he converted the nearby dead beast corpses and even the wounded who were alive but weak in body and will into the Wendigo’s service.

A surprised Triodana tried to control the Wendigo’s dagger but to no avail.

    “Eww!”

    “What is this!?”

Screams erupted from the barracks where the wounded were being cared for.

Everyone was horrified as the wounded groaned and transformed into large hairy apes.

    “Lord Karna!”

While tending to the wounded Izmilla and Aramis fend off attacks from Wendigo’s followers who were threatening the people and find Karna the leader of the Celestial Fire.

Karna who was performing a ritual using the Wendigo’s dagger with Triodana was startled by voices calling him from all directions.

    “I need your guidance!”

It’s only natural that the camp is in chaos when Wendigo’s followers appear in the barracks.

Triodana grabbed the Wendigo dagger and shouted with concentration.

“Karna! Don’t let those Yetis attack! I can control them!”

“No that’s why I told you not to do it!”

“I didn’t tell you not to do it! I just didn’t feel like it!”

“I can’t just openly refuse because it’s my father’s will!”

Karna stepped outside in annoyance and gave orders to the Celestial Fire Knights to clear the way for the Wendigo’s followers.

Wendigo’s followers began to charge towards Banreung.

    “….”

    “Lord Karna! This is!”

Izmila is not stupid. No other people are not stupid either.

Everyone here knew what it meant when the Nether’s Reaper and his followers charged towards the Kingdom of Banrung.

    “It was an unfortunate accident.”

Karna had no choice but to respond in that way to those who looked at him with suspicion.

“You call this an unfortunate accident?”

“Yes it was an accident that happened when I accidentally touched a Nether artifact. Sir Triodana is currently controlling it.”

As Karna made his poor excuses another scream arose from the wounded men’s barracks.

Some of the injured were also transformed into Nether’s followers.

    That’s not all.

    “ah!”

    “no!”

    -Quadduck!

Even in places where the dead had been hastily wrapped in hemp and placed on top of a cold ice warehouse some of the corpses began to rise again.

Human corpses began to twist and mutate into yetis of the Wendigo clan the god of death.

“Stop it! Lord Triodana! The wounded in the barracks and even ordinary humans are getting involved!”

The Celestial Fire Knights aren’t just made up of Celestials.

Spearmen longbowmen and crossbowmen who maintain the front line along with the saber-toothed saber-toothed saber-toothed saber.

All kinds of people followed the Celestial Fire Knights including battlefield laborers who worked on engineering projects and battlefield merchants who bought and sold supplies to them to make a living.

The Wendigo’s dagger projected the twisted power of the Nether’s divine creatures upon them. The living were fine but the wounded and those with weakened immune systems began to mutate.

“Are you planning to make our people into the Reaper’s retinue? It’s more helpful to be a Reaper’s retinue than to remain human.”

Izmila rushed into the commander’s tent which was emitting the power of the Nether and cut through the awning with her sword.

Inside was Triodana wielding a Wendigo dagger and controlling her magic with her Celestial wings spread out.

“If I let go of this now those people won’t be controlled! Even if I let go there’s no guarantee that this power that turns humans into the Nether’s people will stop!”

Triodana was worried that the moment she let go of the Wendigo’s dagger she would lose control of her followers.

The power emanating from the Wendigo’s dagger was so great that it made Triodana’s body drenched in cold sweat.

Even if you control it with all your might you can only control the followers to a certain extent. You cannot stop this dagger from continuously creating followers using corpses and pieces of flesh from patients.

“Put that dagger down right now! Or else!”

    Izmila raised her ceramite longsword.

But her ceramite longsword was met by another ceramite longsword.

Karna who had been watching stopped Izmila.

    “What are you doing Izmila!”

“Lord Karna?! Right now innocent wounded people are being treated worse than dead! They are not just innocent wounded people! They are our comrades!”

Even if they are just innocent casualties they are worth their lives to protect. These are the comrades of the Celestial Fire Knights. They are servants spearmen archers gunners engineers cooks and support merchants.

But Karna turned his eyes away.

“There is no guarantee that the situation will improve even if we drop the sword from Lord Triodana’s hand now! Lord Triodana is definitely controlling that power now so we should add our strength to help control it!”

Meanwhile the sound of cannon fire shook the heavens and the earth.

As Wendigo’s followers rushed to Banreung Banreung also stopped their advance by continuously firing fortress cannons.

Throw cannon fodder at those defending the fortress wasting gunpowder.

A tactic that required relentless disregard for human life was now actually being deployed.

    “Lord Karna….”

Izmila groaned as she realized that Karna was so blinded by victory that he had decided to tolerate this situation.

“At the operational meeting there was a proposal to use necromancy to send the undead to consume Banreung’s gunpowder.”

Sir Aramis who arrived at the command tent a step later than Izmilla muttered.

“I have now concluded that my crudely learned command skills cannot overcome the cult mutants guarding Banreung.”

“On the other hand these Nether followers are just as strong as those cult mutants so they are definitely effective. The enemies are also panicking and firing their cannons.”

    Aramis said so expressionlessly.

    “yes.”

“Then even if this really was an accidental incident the world will still be suspicious of us. How will you deal with that?”

    Aramis asked so.

Aramis is not a reincarnation. He is a Celestial who was created as a pure blank slate. He pointed that out despite the fact that he was a holy knight who had been hastily taught and filled with knowledge by priests.

If you can’t fool Aramis you won’t be able to fool a three-year-old child.

    “…….”

Karna too could not find words to respond.
