Night of the Soulless Heathens – 357

#357. Grim Reaper Rampage 1
Surprisingly the ghost proclaimed that Azadin was the one who would become the king of Banling.
It was only yesterday that Azadin said he would seek the throne and now the phantom bound to the earth is saying this. The speed at which phantoms transmit information is beyond human imagination.
Azadin snorted.
“Are you a member of the witch group?”
The Witch’s Order is a secret society of wild magic passed down among women since ancient times. One of their leaders was Shade Hag.
Azadin is not on good terms with the Coven as he has a feud with Shade Hag.
[Our souls were bound by the witches’ magic hoping for salvation. However even the witches’ magic could not overcome the Nether and the vampires and we ended up offering our souls in vain. However the one who will be the king has freed our lowly souls. Be careful the Shade Hags are targeting the noble one. There is already a witches’ figure around you… He is.]
“There’s no need to say anything. I already know that Camilla is a member of the witches’ group. Stop wasting your soul’s power on the witches’ group’s magic and go beyond your own peace.”
Azadin completed the funeral before the Coven’s ghosts could give him any useless information.
The wraith was surprised that Azadin already knew the identity of the witch group that had infiltrated them and knelt down again to show respect.
[Then you who have been blessed by God and angels please spread your will in this world….]
The ghost disappeared and only the tombs where the funeral was held remained next to the well.
“What is this…..”
Edir trembled like an aspen leaf at the sight.
I knew there was a cult called the Witch Clan but this was the first time I had seen one in person. No this was also the first time I had seen ghosts in person.
He had always lived in the civilized areas of humans so the only enemies he had encountered were the occasional Breena goblins but this was the first time he had seen such evil spirits.
Of course in recent times the Age of Jupiter Fimbulbert has arrived and we have witnessed the terrifying and fearsome Nether factions… but seeing the witches and their ghosts brought a different kind of fear.
What is even more terrifying is that the ghosts called Azadin the one who would become king.
“I see why the Shade Hags are so scary. I told you yesterday and they’ve already spread all over the world. So you see? Killing Edir won’t do any good. Instead the Shade Hags will take Edir’s soul and use it as a witness.”
Azadin took advantage of this situation to preach that Edir should not be killed.
“okay.”
“indeed.”
Niselda and Bernard seemed convinced.
“But from the witches’ point of view it was like they had the meat in their mouths taken away. And on top of that they learned of Sir Azadin’s secret…”
Zibek was worried that the Shade Hags of the witch cult would not leave Azadan alone.

“No wait a minute Lord Zibek. I should ask you that first. The one who will become king has been blessed by the angels. What is that?”
“Sir Azadin no Count Azadin has already mastered the Book of the New King and has been chosen by the angels of the Knights of Salvation.”
“…yes?”
For a moment Edir seriously suspected that Zibek had gone mad.
“Are you sure what those ghosts are saying is true?”
“Indeed he prevented the thrones of Korasar and Bthuma from falling into evil hands. I saw it firsthand.”
“What is that…..”
Then suddenly the horses became startled and started babbling.
A large black shadow was moving and approaching from around the village.
I thought it was a cult mutant but it wasn’t. It was a bizarre monster with a large crow’s head and a human body and it was growing larger and larger even at this moment.
[You dare take the souls that entered our mouths Count Azadin. You are going too far!]
The Shade Hags were unable to bear it and used force.
however….
“You must have worked hard. You must have had a hard time traveling all over the continent at this late hour.”
Azadin snarled at the Shade Hags and slinged Aurelia Dawn. Grimthrown’s club attached itself to Aurelia Dawn transforming into a stabilizing wing for attitude control and Aurelia Dawn fired landing on a raven monster that had not yet completed its transformation.
-Phew!
Aurelia Dunn shattered into pieces on top of the crow monster raining down fire.
The crow monsters were engulfed in flames before they could fully grow.
[No! That sword! It must be the relic of Sir Planck!]
[That’s one of the holy swords of the Black Knights! It wasn’t made by some later sorcery but a sword made by real angels with their own blood! How dare you use it like that!]
The Shade Hags were so dismayed that they took out their anger on Azadin.
“Oh that’s what it was? I didn’t know that.”
Azadin was shocked to hear that Aurelia Dunn was not created by the Church of Wisdom but was a real relic bestowed by angels.
“Somehow it was better than other ceramite longswords. But even though it’s a holy relic the cutting sensation isn’t that great.”
How can there be no room for improvement when the cutting sensation is worse than that of an ordinary steel sword let alone an Azure Steel sword?
Azadin burned the crow monsters and retrieved Aurelia Dawn. The shattered ceramites reassembled into Aurelia Dawn and Grimslown’s club retrieved it and returned it to Azadin’s hand.
[Hey you! Just wait and see!]
[This is not the end! Fear the night!]
The Shade Hags disintegrated as they watched Azadin annihilate them before their attack could even be properly prepared.
Their loud voices like scraping iron and the fear of the black wild magic that could be seen heard and felt anywhere were terrifying enough to send shivers down the spines of the living but Azadin got into his carriage indifferently regardless of whether the Shade Hags were going crazy or not.
“Hey aren’t you guys past your prime? The Age of Jupiter has arrived and the Nether messengers have appeared but compared to them you guys are way below par. In a situation where mad dragons and rabid giants are running wild what’s the point of a small stray dog barking…?”
[Kaaaak! This guy!]
“The Nether Reaper is entering the Banreung Kingdom so either follow him or shut up. Or are you going to confront Asajit? Are you planning to prove to the witches that their power is stronger than the Nether Reaper?”
When I asked if they wanted to fight the Nether Reaper the Shade Hags of the Coven backed down.
[Let’s see.]
[Fear the night!]
[Sister… Stop it. I told you earlier. If you keep doing that won’t you shrink back a bit?]

[You damn thing! That must be your crooked nose!]
[Whether it’s my nose or my nose…. Anyway it’s cooler to say things like that when we’re doing well. It’s a bit crazy to say this after getting hit.]
[Hey. It’s even more foolish to say something like that in front of the enemy! Even if you think so it’s not something you should say in front of Count Azadin!]
[But it’s not like we came to the main body so why don’t we just stop concentrating?]
[Shut up! It’s been so long since I’ve been treated like this that I almost forgot about it!]
The voices of the Shade Hags gradually grew distant as they argued among themselves.
*********
“and.”
Edir was speechless at what was unfolding before his eyes.
Azadin saved the wraiths. Then the Shade Hags the leaders of the legendary witch order appeared and attacked Azadin but were defeated and retreated?
And who will become king?
Isn’t this a story that would be right in the middle of a heroic myth?
Of course it was a scene that could not be used as a straight-up hero myth because the Shade Hags ran away with their tails tied up showing a shameful appearance…
With a little bit of dramatization it’s a very plausible scene.
“Haha. I think I understand a little bit why we like the Count.”
Bernard felt proud as he watched Edir look dumbfounded at what was unfolding before his eyes.
“Even if the Nether’s vassals roam this land even if Fimbulbert comes if Count Azadin is here he can do something.”
“…surely.”
I have such expectations.
Even Edir who had been suspicious of Azadin from the beginning now wants to trust him.
*********
After that Azadin’s party moved north safely without any particular threats.
Bernard who had Asajit’s eyes used powerful blood magic to hide the group’s traces.
The vampires and Asajit’s followers could not even see Azadin’s carriage up close so they were able to pass through the no-man’s land despite the countless monsters swarming around.
“Ugh… This is driving me crazy.”
Edir who had taken on the role of coachman trembled as if he was not used to the situation.
Along their path elephant-sized blood-veined and tentacle-covered cult mutants would pass.
“It’s okay. Trust my magic.”
“Everyone says that.”
Edir carefully advanced forward blindfolded so as not to startle the horses. The cult mutants passed by Azadin and his party without noticing them even though they were literally within arm’s reach of each other.
“Oh my. My heart is pounding. I can’t live without you.”
“Then from now on we’ll use blood magic to take out only the cult mutants. But if there are vampires nearby they’ll reveal our location.”
Bernard said this to the complaining Edir and looked at Azadin.
Azadin who had declared that he would aspire to become the emperor was sitting in the hold of his carriage meditating.
Judging by the powerful magical powers circulating around his body it was clear that he was handling some amazing advanced magic.
Azadin was told that he was the Emperor’s descendant the chosen guide of the angels and the one who would become king according to the Shade Hags.
Zibek also said that Azadin had collected a huge number of copies of the Book of the New King and that it resided within his body… Azadin’s meditation must be part of a grand plan to set the world right.
‘This is a big deal. This is a big deal.’
Azadin on the other hand was having a hard time organizing the magical powers running wild within his body.
Azadin’s body is already incomplete as he was brought back from the dead but Arael is a master of magic so she has mastered all kinds of magic and has many miscellaneous grimoires.
I was holding on by throwing away all the grimoires that came to mind that I couldn’t understand but the grimoires I received from Arael kept growing like aquatic plants in a pond that was always full no matter how much I emptied it.
Normally you would want to get hold of at least one grimoire but for someone like Azadin who came back from the dead the more miscellaneous magical powers you have the more of a headache it becomes.
‘If I keep doing this my body will explode?’
