Night of the Soulless Heathens – 352

#352. Erantry Quest 8
“Give me Ashajit’s eyes!”
The vampire charged at Azadin. Armed with two side swords the vampire’s attack was like a whirlwind.
But when Azadin swung his Qing Executioner the steel side sword was cleanly cut down and the vampire’s body was split in two horizontally.
It would have been surprising if this kind of power could be achieved by swinging a halberd but Azadin simply held the halberd without a handle and swung it like a tonfa.
With that he could cut the steel sword like a reed and cut the vampire in two. The vampires who were exhausted from fighting the Breeds couldn’t handle it.
The startled vampires tried to move but the black-clad nun Niselda pierced another vampire’s heart with a stake carved from a dead tree.
The vampire fell dead with a terrible scream.
“Ugh!”
The gloomy-looking paladin swung his sword and split the vampire’s collarbone. The ribs were lightly cut and the lungs popped out of the body. Vampires have regenerative powers but regenerating with the lungs out would only prolong the pain.
“…….”
The paladin cut the vampire’s neck horizontally ending the life of the gasping agonizing vampire.
‘This is ridiculous! No matter how tired we are from fighting Bree…’
The leader of the vampires was amazed by the power of Azadin and his party who cut them down like grass.
In the end only one vampire leader remained.
“I guess you’re the only one left… Well shall we talk Bernard? How do you feel?”
“…Bernard?”
The vampire captain looked at the wizard standing next to Azadin in confusion.
“You’re getting old Bernard. Time is fleeting but I can’t believe that handsome man has become like this.”
“Is that voice Hendrick?”
“Yeah yeah.”
The vampire leader named Hendrick took off his hood and revealed his face.
“Do you know each other?”
“We were apprentices at the Dwarf Academy together when we were young. I miss you Hendrik. Fate really is cruel.”
Bernard said so and smiled bitterly.
“Bernard… You should have become a vampire like us. Then Lady Griselda would have favored you much more. What a waste of your beauty.”

“It’s horrible to be a slave for just one lifetime but it’s even worse to be a slave for eternity. Hendrick.”
“Then aren’t you a slave now?”
The vampire glanced at Azadin.
“It seems to me that I am still a slave?”
“okay?”
As Azadin held up the empty hilt the golden flames that had been burning the floor rushed to the hilt forming a gleaming blade once again.
Ceramite Longsword Aurelia Dawn. The holy sword of the Knights of Salvation who destroy vampires has regained its form as a sword.
“…Wait a minute. A so-called knight isn’t going to torture me right?”
“This is true. Even the Rescue Knights don’t really acknowledge me but I’m grateful that the vampires see me as a holy knight.”
“You will have to kill him. Hendrik is loyal to Griselda and will not open his mouth easily no matter how much you torture him.”
As Bernard said this Azadin nodded and lifted Aurelia Dunn up.
Then Hendrick waved his hand in surprise.
“No wait! Bernard! What are you talking about?! You said you had something to ask me? Ask me. I’ll answer everything!”
“Oh thank you for your cooperative attitude.”
Azadin put away his sword.
“That’s unexpected. What are you thinking Hendrick?”
“No that’s right. It’s because Lady Griselda hasn’t been looking for me lately.”
“…….”
It seemed that Hendrick’s loyalty in Bernard’s time came from his close relationship with Griselda. Did his loyalty naturally fade as they grew apart?
Or is it that being killed by Aurelia Dawn is too much of a pain for vampires to bear and they submit? Whatever the case this was an opportunity for Azadin to hear more from Griselda’s confidants.
“What happened to the Kingdom of Banreung? I know the general idea but I don’t know the details. What did Griselda and the dwarven royal family do?”
“It’s a wish spell.”
“A spell of wish?”
“Yes. The Dwarven Dynasty of Banreung that is Banreung Academy has been studying the ultimate Nether magic spell of wishing for a long time. It is commonly called reality distortion magic. Lady Griselda has also been studying it with the Dwarven sorcerers.”
“So. Did the wish spell activate and cause this? Is such a thing even possible with a wish spell? Tell me what you know about wish spells.”
“It’s Ashajit.”
“Ashajit?”
“Blood God Ashajit is one of the messengers of the Nether. Lady Griselda convinced the Dwarf Sorcerer King that she could use Ashajit to cast a wish spell and so she continued her research with Banreung Academy.”
“I’ve never heard of that story before.”
Bernard frowned when he heard that something like that had happened in Griselda’s camp.
“That’s because you ran away in the middle. We didn’t know from the beginning. We only found out after the Kingdom of Banreung fell into that state.”
“So. Are you and the vampires convinced? That the world is in this mess because of a wish spell or something that went out of control?”
“For us blood is our most precious luxury our food our drink and everything. With just the blood flowing from Ashajit’s eyes all the vampires in this land can survive. The enemies of vampires will be destroyed and only those chosen as vampires will reign over this land…”
“It seems like even Breed got hit with something like that.”
Azadin looked around at the corpses of Bree and the goblins strewn about as well as the corpses of the vampires that had died fighting them.
“You were originally human but you really want a world where human civilization is destroyed and only monsters are rampant? Human culture existed even when the gods of the Kurt Pantheon and the Naga Empire ruled the world. But I can’t imagine a world ruled by the Nether’s gods.”
“…….”

“why?”
“Oh no… I….”
The vampire named Hendrick was confused by Jatn’s feelings.
“Does that sound plausible Hendrik? It means that in order to survive under Griselda he forgot who he was.”
“No. I enjoy my life as a vampire. I don’t grow old and die I drink blood every day and I also enjoy life with Griselda and her daughters…”
“….”
Niselda swallowed hard at the mention of Griselda’s daughters. A murderous aura emanated from her. The words were spoken without much thought but the words themselves seemed to have a thorn in them provoking and poking Niselda’s wounds.
Bernard restrained Niselda’s anger.
“Not all of Griselda’s daughters are bloodthirsty. They are just desperately acting to survive because Griselda wants them to be like that. Hendrik you are no different. You enjoyed pleasure and were happy every night at Griselda’s court? Is that really true?”
“I am….”
Hendrick was perplexed.
“Of course it’s not like it’s not fun at all. Gambling and drugs are fun at the moment. They indulge themselves to the point where they know that their future is being torn apart at every moment and that their soul and body are tied up in tatters. But don’t they know it well? The moment they enjoy pleasure is fun but afterwards they feel endlessly empty and afraid.”
The vampire named Hendrick knelt down.
As Bernard says he always wore a mask because he was afraid of other vampires.
Ironically before he was given a mission by Griselda and was separated from her like this he didn’t even know it and was actually loyal to Griselda.
He had been spending his nights in a frenzy at the vampire’s banquet brainwashing himself into believing that he was craving this pleasure and enjoying it.
“But what can I do! I’ve already become a vampire….”
There is no way to reverse his vampirism and pleasure still hangs as a chain around his neck.
Even if I were lucky enough to escape Griselda’s bonds I wouldn’t be confident that I wouldn’t fall for it if Griselda and her daughters tempted me again in a critical moment.
Because his soul already soaked in pleasure every night is tattered like a piece of rag.
You will want to escape from this swamp of pleasure but after you escape you will want to jump into it again.
Desire was his master and he could not escape it until he died. He knew all too well that becoming a vampire was only a secondary issue.
At that moment Azadin’s voice cleared his mind.
“I am looking for Bishop Akenar of the Coxhal Rescue Order.”
“You mean the former queen of Akenar? She was taken away by the vampires. You won’t find her even in Coxhall. Lady Griselda is already… Oh look at me. Even in this situation it’s Lady Griselda… Anyway Griselda likes that kind of thing. She probably played with her and made her her own daughter. It’s probably too late now since quite some time has passed.”
“….”
Azadin was speechless when he heard that Bishop Akenar had already become a vampire.
Bishop Akenar was Azadin’s patron and the one who helped him become a rescue knight.
Although the favor was by no means small Azadin himself had too much to do and was building up his power to pay attention to Coxhal.
“Coxhal fell shortly after the Kingdom of Banrung became like that so no matter what you did Azadin you could not save her. Do not suffer from things beyond your control.”
Jibek said this to Azadin and smiled bitterly.
What was said to Azadin also applied to Zibek.
There is no need to blame yourself for digging into the inevitable.
We know it but it’s the human mind that doesn’t do it.
“Ha… hahahaha.”
Zibek’s words also reached Hendrick.
“It was an act of God. It was an act of God that I was trampled by the power of Griselda and the dwarf sorcerers. So I shouldn’t blame myself for something that I couldn’t help.”
Hendrick knelt down and held out his hand to Azadin exposing his neck.
“I don’t like Aurelia Dunn. Let her go without pain.”
“Okay then. I’ll let you go without any pain.”
Azadin took the Qing executioner instead of Aurelia Dunn.
From his hand grew Grimslow’s club wrapping itself around the Qing executioner and transforming into a large halberd.
“Ah ugh. I don’t want to die. But…..”
The vampire named Hendrick was shaking with a complicated expression that made it hard to tell whether he was laughing or crying because the situation was so stressful.
“I was tired.”
“I’m sorry.”
Azadin swung his Qing executioner decapitating Hendrik and stabbing him through the heart.
Despite the vampire’s strong vitality he showed courtesy to his collaborator by killing him without him feeling any pain.
“….”
“Count?”
“It feels strange when you call me Count. Call me Captain like usual.”
“…Yes sir.”
Until now Azadin had not felt any particular hostility towards Griselda even when he had heard stories about her or actually met her.
However after learning that she was the one who destroyed the Banling Kingdom and how she ruined the lives of countless people including Bernard and Niselda Hendrik he began to feel ashamed that he had not killed her when he had the chance.
“I will definitely kill Griselda.”
I am worried that Bishop Acenar has fallen into Griselda’s hands.
