Night of the Soulless Heathens – 351

#351. Erantry Quest 7
As Azadin’s warlords continued to expand there was a shortage of skilled soldier-knights to serve as instructors.
In the case of the Orthodox Knight Jibek he was the one who trained as a knight in the Azadin warlords for the longest period of time.
But contrary to expectations Zibek did not become a good instructor.
Soldiers servants and knights do not like Zibek. His gloomy and pessimistic nature makes him painful to look at in these anxious times.
In addition since Jibek is not the type to beat up or bully people who don’t listen training and command did not go well.
Rather Scott the Orc had better interpersonal relationships than Zibek. The idea that interpersonal relationships are worse than those of an Orc is something that can only be used as a joke when cursing but Zibek’s interpersonal relationships were the ones that actually embodied that idea.
“Edir I think you too like Zibek have a hard time socializing with others.”
“Why do you think so?”
Edir questioned back but he seemed to be deeply hurt by Azadin’s words. As Azadin had said Edir had lived in discord with his colleagues even during his time as a servant.
“There’s something called type. Aren’t they both the same?”
“You speak too freely Count.”
“You don’t have to blame yourself like that Edir Zibek.”
“Blaming yourself? Where in your speech do you blame yourself? I would rather blame you. Lord Azadin! Darhan Zadek was truly the hope itself for the people of Btuma. He was the second coming of the Golden King Manza Zadek or even a greater hero. The Heralds assassinated him…”
Edir was trying hard to explain why he was blaming Azadin and not himself but Zibek just burst out laughing.
“Sir Azadin is truly unbeatable. Come to think of it it was the same when we first met. Why are you so upright and unrusty? I have become so rusty.”
“It’s not like I haven’t made mistakes. My heart is rusty too.”
“No Azadin. From the moment I met you I was a coward who condoned the atrocities of the nobles. After meeting you I tried to correct that mistake but I couldn’t. I can’t educate or inspire others with my actions. I’m not like you.”
After becoming a knight in the guard of Darhan Zadek and then meeting his death in vain Zibek was left questioning his entire life.
He could not achieve anything alone and was not accepted by anyone. Yet the righteousness lived in his heart and he could not stand it because he hated himself for not reaching that ideal.
The source of Jebeck’s gloom was his self-loathing and disappointment at not being able to reach such lofty ideals.
“Usually you can’t educate others or inspire them. There’s an atmosphere within the entire Order and there’s a sense of propriety in living in this world but you can’t break that head-on and live as a member of the organization.”
“You’ve achieved so much by beating it from the front.”
“It’s because people like you helped me. How could I have accomplished such a feat alone? I was an outcast even among the messenger clan.”
“….”
Edir listened to the conversation between Zibek and Azadin and realized that they were beings who could not live under the same sky as those who had killed Zadek.

No in fact from the beginning he didn’t think that Azadin and Zibek were responsible for Zadek’s death.
But why was I so angry?
Perhaps it was because Edir was rooting for Darhan Zadek.
‘It should have been Darhan Zadek who survived to the glory… When Fimbulbert came he accepted the refugees and protected the people. It should have been Darhan Zadek’s job…’
Azadin who had taken the position expected of him by Darhan Zadek was so unbearable that he lost his temper with him and decided to go on this Erantree quest to see for himself.
“I’ll rest first. Do you need any blood magic?”
Bernard had Asajjite’s eyes placed on his staff as decoration.
For a blood magician it is the most desirable magical tool allowing him to use almost infinite blood magic.
“Do you need blood magic?”
“….”
Bernard pointed silently under Azadin’s nose.
Azadin was bleeding again from the nose.
“…hmm.”
Azadin silently wiped the coffee with his hand.
“You must be tired. Can you solve it with blood magic?”
Bernard lifted his cane and pointed it at Azadin’s feet.
“Take off your boots.”
“Okay.”
As Azadin took his feet off a small prophet golem emerged from Bernard’s staff. The lump which looked like it was made of clumps of prophet used in cooking wriggled and approached then buried itself in Azadin’s feet.
“I’ll remove the waste and give you a massage. It’ll help with blood circulation and relieve fatigue.”
“Ugh. No this feels… I don’t know if I should say it’s good or it’s creepy.”
“Would you like to do it too? If you have an aversion to blood magic I won’t stop you but since you have a long way to go it would be better to relieve your fatigue.”
“Can I take off my shoes when there are enemies wandering around?”
Edir asked in confusion but Azadin remained calm.
Because Arael’s voice alerted the surroundings I was confident that I could put on my shoes before the enemy attacked.
“It’s okay. If we attack by surprise they’ll suffer.”
“Huh? What does that mean?”
“That’s right…..”
Azadin began his explanation while receiving a massage from the Prophet Golem.
*********
Red eyes glowing in the darkness were glaring at Azadin and his party.
He was hiding in a clump of brush about 800 yards away observing the camp of Azadin and his men and was astonished to see them resting with their shoes off even from this great distance.
“You pathetic bastards! How dare you take off your boots while the enemy is watching you. This is your chance.”
“Should I attack? Then?”
“…….”
The owner of the red eyes hesitated for a moment.
These were Griselda’s vampires a group of vampires that had been hovering around Azadin in order to retrieve the Eye of Ashajit.

“You’re going to wear shoes while chasing a 800-yard line?”
“Wouldn’t it be okay if we moved along the cover? We could easily surprise them. They’re in the barn.”
By approaching the farm along the barn wall we were able to close the distance without being seen by Azadin’s group.
Of course this was useless since Azadin had placed Arael’s voice on the roof of the farm to watch the surroundings but to the vampires who were unaware of this fact it sounded like a very reasonable attack method.
However their leader the red-eyed vampire was hesitating.
They witnessed firsthand the terrifying power of Aurelia Dawn as she burned vampires alive.
Just the day before yesterday several hot-blooded vampires couldn’t hold back and rushed at Azadin only to be hit by an Aurelia Dawn shot from Azadin’s bow.
Even a simple brush with the skin causes the ceramite to stick like molten lead burning the skin repeatedly and causing excruciating pain that makes one yearn for death.
The screams of the vampires who were burned alive are still ringing in my eardrums and after seeing that sight I don’t have the courage to charge forward.
“Let’s gather the nearby mutants and attack them.”
Eventually the vampire leader said so and ordered his subordinates to gather all the mutants around him.
“Yes I understand. That’s a good idea.”
“Yes. Do you think I have Lady Griselda’s favor for nothing?”
The vampire leader sent his men out with a grin.
‘Hey it’s not a monopoly.’
‘Shh. Let’s not get angry when he’s in a good mood. Lately Captain Hendrick has been acting like he’s having a manic episode.’
‘Oh right.’
It was the moment when the subordinate vampires who had been gossiping about their boss’s eccentricities dispersed to bring in the cult mutants.
-puck!
Suddenly something flew into his subordinate vampire’s head and stuck itself in his throat.
The vampire’s body floated up with a dull sound.
An axe made of a giant bone was driven into the side of the vampire’s head severing the face from its skull alive.
“Ugh?!”
“Creamy!”
A single unit of Bree and Goblins charged at the subordinate vampires.
Surprisingly they were able to effectively conceal themselves by using the dry ridges and irrigation canals to launch a surprise attack on the vampires.
“Damn it! These stupid deer heads!”
I didn’t know that Breedle had come here to watch over Azadin and his party.
The vampires immediately recovered from their wounds and began fighting against Breedle.
*********
“Did you see it?”
Edir was taken aback by Azadin’s boastful attitude.
With nothing but enemies and monsters all around him Azadin was calmly taking off his shoes and receiving a massage from Bernard’s prophet golem seemingly made of iron.
If he alone jumped out of the stomach wouldn’t it be okay? But weren’t Niselda Zibek and Bernard also calmly letting their guard down and wiping their feet with the prophet golem while Bree and the vampires fought?
“Rest when you rest and move when you move. It’s better not to be too tense. Engage.”
Jibek gives Edir this advice and lies down closing his eyes even though he can hear the sound of monsters fighting outside.
*********
“Gasp gasp…..”
“Is this the end?!”
The vampires were exhausted from fighting the sudden attack of Bree and the goblins. The Bree were savage and had poorly armed weapons but they had wild green magic and powerful physical abilities making them formidable enemies even for the vampires.
“I must have been caught. What should I do?”
The sound of their fight must have been heard by Azadin and his party. Even in the wilderness where the wind howled fiercely there was no way they wouldn’t have noticed the battle using magic at a distance of about 800 yards.
However Azadin and his party were resting without moving.
“No this…..”
“Why are those kids just sitting still?”
The vampires expressed their discontent feeling that they were the only ones suffering for nothing.
But then it happened.
-Swish!
The vampire’s head is cut off. The black-clad nun who approached them from behind cut off the head of the vampire’s subordinate.
“I was originally going to just ignore it and rest but…”
Golden flames form a circle burning the ground beneath their feet.
A circular flame surrounded the vampires.
Azadin stood there burning the ground with Aurelia Dawn holding the Blue Executioner in his hand like a tonfa.
Azadin’s group set up a dummy while the vampires were distracted by the fight with Bree and made a surprise attack from behind by making a detour.
That means these vampires were surprised twice today.
“I can’t not welcome guests.”
“Hah. Count Azadin! And you’re a knight after all!”
The vampires were indignant at seeing Azadin and his party wandering in after they were all exhausted and depleted.
