Night of the Soulless Heathens – 350

#350. Erantry Quest 6
The Northern Qi did not gain power and influence for nothing. It took decades of hard work to build his power. There was no reason to be jealous or envious of the fruits of his labor now.
Rather the Northern Qing Dynasty would be nervous about the news that Azadin had been awarded the title of Count. It was an achievement that took much longer than the effort and time Azadin had put in.
“What is the quest about?”
After hearing the messenger’s message that the Erantree quest had occurred Jibek approached Azadin.
“The order is to rescue Bishop Coxhal Akenar who is isolated in the Kingdom of Banreung. In addition to investigate the situation in the Kingdom of Banreung and submit a report.”
“Are you talking about the bishop who is isolated in the Kingdom of Banreung? I don’t think he will survive.”
“If she’s dead the point of the quest is to at least collect her remains.”
Currently there are people evacuating from Banling so Azadin is asked to enter the Banling Kingdom and rescue people. It is an absurdly dangerous mission.
However Bishop Akenar of Coxhal was Azadin’s patron and Azadin was indebted to her.
Given Azadin’s personality there is no way he would refuse this quest.
Those who gave this quest were the ones who restrained Azadin at the right time.
“That’s ridiculous.”
Niselda a member of the Mercy Order and half-vampire shook her head at this Erantry quest.
“Please refuse Count Azadin. You are not just a simple rescue knight you are now the Count of Arangi. You have a lot of work to do so there is no reason for you to go to Banreung and rescue people. Who has been doing the Erantri quest recently?”
The current state of the Kingdom of Banling is so dangerous that Niselda is jumping up and down like this.
In the kingdom of Banling which had been transformed into a hellish place where cult mutants and vampires were rampant it was too much of a hassle and dangerous to ask someone to find someone whether they were alive or dead or even to collect their remains.
“The Order of Mercy is right behind you. You no longer need a bishop as your guardian. This Erantry quest was given by the Order of Wisdom who considers you a thorn in their side. Please wait a moment and I will try to resolve the situation.”
“By killing people?”
“As a result a few guys will die.”
Niselda said it casually but Azadin stopped her.
“Stop it. I don’t know about other quests but… Bishop Akenar of Coxhal is someone I have also been blessed with. If her whereabouts are unknown then of course I should go and find out.”
“But from here to Coxhal… no there’s no guarantee that she’ll stay in Coxhal right?”
“The Kingdom of Banreung needed an investigation anyway. I’ll go all the way to Coxhall myself.”
“Now that I look at it you wanted to go didn’t you? But you held out until we stabilized the territory and collected the refugees?”
“I won’t deny it.”

“Okay then I’ll go with you.”
“We need you Niselda for counterintelligence work?”
As Azadin’s warlords continue to expand they need the right people to support them… and they need to weed out the spies and cultists who sneak in.
“Even if I’m not there Heine and the Chadra Convent will actively help. For some reason the upper echelons of the Order of Mercy are actively trying to cooperate with Count Azadin. Besides isn’t Griselda in Banreung? She and I have bills to settle. If you don’t take me with you I’ll escape and go after you separately.”
“Okay. Okay so don’t do that. Then should I take Bernard with me? He’ll probably want to settle things with Griselda too. If I leave Ashajit’s eye here while I’m gone he might get attacked by vampires so take Ashajit’s eye with him too…”
Then one of the soldiers raised his hand.
“Are you going to Coxhall?”
“however?”
“I came here as a refugee from Coxhal. I’m originally from Bthuma so I can’t say I know the way around Coxhal very well… but I’ll show you the way.”
“Who is it?”
“My name is Edir. I am from the order of the Darhan Zadek.”
“Are you the son of the Golden King Manja Zadek?”
In the past Azadin had been given the title of Golden Herald by the Golden King Manja Zadek.
Although it was only a temporary position he was appointed as the king’s direct subordinate so even before his current status as Count Aranggi he was already officially recognized by the powers of the Eight Kingdoms.
At that time Azadin felt deep gratitude to Manja Zadek. That favor was passed on to other Zadek and to those who paid homage to him.
“What? On the topic of work….”
“Do you want to establish a reputation?”
People around me were surprised that someone who had just arrived here was offering to give directions.
Even though Edir himself knew that this was a stretch he wanted to check on Azadin.
“Okay I understand. I will allow you to accompany me.”
Azadin decided to allow Edir to accompany him.
*********
There were many volunteers who wanted to join Azadin’s Erantree quest.
However Azadin’s warlords Naisandhokar and Sandhokar Chadra who continued to expand needed a lot of talented people to rule the area.
Those who join the Erantry quest are Niselda and Bernard father and daughter who are burning with revenge against Griselda.
And there was the knight of the king’s church Zibek and the servant Edir.
The others could not be brought in as they had to run the warlords Sandhokar and Naisandhokar while Azadin was away.
Azadin chose the necessary words and equipment.
“Ah Captain. Where’s the hippogriff?”
Selim asked Azadin when he chose a horse instead of a hippogriff.
“It won’t work because the maintenance costs are high. The wind is strong. I thought there would be no supply of macho so I loaded it but it only lasts for ten days.”
If you load beans and oats to feed a horse without a cart your belly will be bigger than your stomach. If you have a cart you can load more but your speed will be reduced.
“If possible I would like to distribute machos as I go back and forth.”
“If it’s a hippogriff you can just feed it to monsters to cover its maintenance costs.”
“I don’t think feeding cult mutants or vampires would be good for a hippogriff either?”
“That’s too bad.”
“I ask you to take care of the land while I am away.”

Azadin asked Selim to carry his luggage.
It was then that he discovered his servant Edir staring blankly at Zibek.
‘Isn’t that the knight favored by the other Zadek?’
Edir was looking at Zibek.
He was the one who took the position of captain of the guard as soon as he entered the military camp of Darhan Zadek.
He is with Azadin so it’s not like they don’t know each other.
However Jibek did not recognize Edir.
Since he was a member of a vassal corps and not a knight Edir probably didn’t leave a strong impression.
“Then shall we set off?”
Azadin loaded his horse with his equipment and began to move on foot with his horse.
*********
As Azadin left Sandokkar and continued to advance east black shadows began to chase after Azadin.
The vampires hiding near Sandokar began to chase Azadin.
“What should we do?”
Jibek who noticed the vampire’s pursuit asked.
“Let’s just ignore it for now and keep going.”
Azadin followed the desolate road towards Coxhall.
“This way. The bridge over there is broken so you have to take a long detour.”
Edir led the way and stopped Azadin from simply following the signs.
But his gaze is fixed on Jibek.
“Sir Jibek… Weren’t you in the guard of Lord Zadek?”
“I see. Edir you said you were the squire of Bthuma?”
“Yes. It was the vassal of the other Zadek.”
“Why did you come here?”
“I was part of the guerrilla force formed by Darhan Zadek to reclaim the Golden City. There was a rumor that Darhan Zadek was assassinated by the Herald Clan…”
“It’s fine to speak your mind but could you please keep quiet? The vampires are listening.”
As Edir’s voice grew louder Bernard stopped him.
Edir had no words to say so he kept his mouth shut.
And for two hours I just gave directions without saying much. Bridges were broken roadblocks were set up and monsters and spirits were roaming around so if I had followed the signs and the old maps I would have wasted a lot of time.
Thanks to Edir who had fled from Coxhal guiding them along the way Azadin and his party continued to move while avoiding combat as much as possible.
*********
It was snowing again. There was already a lot of snow on the road and the horses were getting tired.
“Okay. Should we rest over there?”
Azadin pointed to a farm with an old barn attached.
The farm was completely empty as if the evacuees had taken all their belongings with them but the condition of the buildings appeared to have been recently disturbed.
As Azadin and his party carefully investigated the ranch they discovered mutants in the compost yard where livestock waste was used to make compost.
The monster that was eating compost has risen.
however….
-Hammer of Heaven!
As Zibek threw a small throwing hammer the mutant was shattered with a heavy impact.
Zibek retrieved the hammer he had used as a catalyst and looked around.
“It looks like there are no more enemies. It’s safe. And there’s hay in the barn.”
“That’s fortunate.”
Azadin brought down the hay poured it into a trough and fed it to the horses.
I brought beans and oats to feed the horses but if I feed them that they will run out in no time.
“It seems there are no other grains.”
“Instead there are vegetables in the garden. The animals have eaten them.”
“Let’s bring it.”
Azadin and Zibek pulled out cabbages carrots and radishes from the garden that had become mushy after being hit by snow.
There were traces of being eaten by bugs and wild boars and deer but many were relatively good.
Azadin took them and put them in a pot then cut up some famicon (a preserved food made by solidifying various ingredients based on animal fat) and put it in the pot.
“Okay then.”
Azadin gathered up the scrap wood and rubbed his ceramite longsword Aurelia Dawn with his hand before blowing on it.
Golden sparks flew into the pile of scrap wood and caught fire.
Azadin gathered his horses around the campfire and sat down in front of it.
“Shall we continue our conversation while the food is being prepared? Edir. Why do you look at Zibek with such hateful eyes?”
Azadin immediately asked Edir a question.
“Yes? I don’t hate you.”
Then Niselda snorted.
“Mr. Edir I always have my sword ready behind you. I was afraid that you might attack Lord Zibek.”
It is said that Niselda a half-vampire assassin was continuously aiming for the back of Edir’s head.
Edir himself had no idea of her presence… If he had done anything even a little suspicious Niselda’s blade would have immediately cut off his life.
“If I was suspicious why did you allow me to accompany you? When I said that the road was blocked and that we should take a detour didn’t you follow me without a second thought?”
Azadin used to follow Edir’s directions without much doubt.
“I do not doubt your sincerity Edir. But apart from that you seem to hate Nana and Sir Jibek. Could it be because they are so similar?”
“Huh? You mean we look alike?”
“The reason I brought Jibek with me on this quest is because he volunteered but also because he doesn’t get along well with the other knights of Sandokar.”
“Big.”
Jibek poured out the water he was drinking after hearing Azadin’s words.
Sadly I couldn’t deny Azadin’s words.
