    #349. Erantry Quest 5

“I have brought you to this meeting for no other reason than that. Sir Azadin who should have been an exile from the Chadra Plateau has recently obtained the oath of allegiance from Count Sandokar of Banling Ivechek and has also been granted the title of Margrave of Naisandokar by the Kingdom of Arangi. I would like to hear the opinions of the high-ranking members of the Order.”

Celestial Triodana of the Order of Wisdom stood in the middle of the conference room and raised the agenda regarding Azadin.

She has a beautiful appearance and a bright voice. She is truly a being that captivates mortals with her Celestial blood.

But no matter how beautiful the voice was its contents strangely contained jealousy toward Azadin.

In fact there would be few people in this place who would not be jealous and envious of Azadin. Sir Gareth himself considered it fortunate to be granted the high position of Earl.

Everyone was jealous that Azadin a mere apprentice knight and a member of the herald clan had such good fortune.

“How can a rescue knight become a vassal of the Arangi Kingdom? That’s ridiculous! This is unprecedented! He must be punished!”

The Wisdom Order’s clergymen were indignant and condemned it as if they had been waiting for it.

But the clergy of the Order of Mercy shook their heads as they looked over the codex.

“There are no provisions for punishment.”

“How can you be a rescue knight while having a territory?”

“That makes sense. Aren’t most of those who originally joined the Knights of the Rescue mostly descendants of nobles who had no right of inheritance? Then if the heir died in an accident and was restored they would all return to secular life which would be a problem… If they didn’t return to secular life and received the title of count they could be both a Knight of the Rescue and a count at the same time.”

    “What is that…..”

“Usually when you become a noble you tend to be too busy living off your land to fulfill the burdensome duties of a rescue knight. However there is no provision in the Codex that prohibits performing the duties of a rescue knight while owning a land.”

“Rather didn’t the Knights Templar like the situation where the great nobles were favorable to the Knights Templar? Right now the Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire is like that. Didn’t the Northern Emperor go around calling him one of their own because he grew up in the Wisdom Cult when he was young?”

Sir Gareth the Tersio Master of the Order of Courage quipped the example of the Northern Emperor.

Up until now the Knights Templar had welcomed the favor of the great nobles in order to expand their influence.

Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire who spent his childhood in the Knights Templar and later became king was the pride of the Wisdom Order.

But now Azadin is discriminating against us unlike during the Northern Qi Dynasty.

“He is… different! He is a messenger.”

“Then if you are born a herald you cannot become a rescue knight. Should we rewrite that in the codex? I am very proud. The codex written by the three archangels and the sages did not have such narrow-minded content so we in later generations have to defile the codex with such dirty words.”

The clergy of the Charity Society also complained.

“But why is the Mercy Order fighting him these days? He’s not even a member of the Mercy Order. Do you like him because he’s handsome? Or is it because he insulted our Wisdom Order?”

“…I can’t believe those words just now came out of the mouths of a Wisdom Church priest. It really makes me realize how far we are from virtue.”

Isn’t that too stupid for a priest of wisdom? That’s how he criticized him.

“Ah looking at the innocent blood dripping from the hands of the Mercy Church it’s clear that they’ve strayed far from virtue. Come to think of it the Courage Church also ignored the rescue request from the South Sea Islands and fled right? It seems like the only ones who are truly showing courage are the Celestial Fire Knights.”

    “……”

Sir Gareth was also speechless at that.

Until now whenever something happened the Rescue Knights would first push the Order of Courage to show courage. Because they didn’t like that the Order of Courage would make excuses every time something happened and postpone the work. When they came to their senses they had become collaborators and politicians who were far from the virtue of courage.

‘But I can’t be the first to lose my precious troops to your cheap provocations. But it’s shameful. Fimbulbert is coming and the whole world is in chaos and we’re just fighting over politics.’

    Gareth suddenly thought of Azadin.

Azadin’s warlords were clearly too powerful for a mere apprentice to wield. However Azadin’s consistent attitude showed that what he truly desired was not wealth power or fame but virtue itself.

He could be certain of this because he had been tempered by a long period of political play.

Azadin is the true knight and that is why the Wisdom Order cannot tolerate Azadin’s existence.

“Let’s give you the Erantry quest.”

    Suddenly Sir Gareth said so.

    *********

    My stomach started to churn.

    “Erantree Quest?”

“Yes. Sir Azadin is a knight-errant and is obligated to carry out the Erantree quest.”

The mission for a trainee knight to complete training and become a full-fledged hospitalist is called the Erantry Quest.

However as the virtue of the Trinity lost its luster and the sacred magic disappeared from the Salvation Knights the Erantry quest became a dead letter. This was because the apprentice knights did not have the ability to perform any quests on their own and the past years were so peaceful that there was nothing that could be given as a quest.

That’s why the Mercy Church was embarrassed.

“Isn’t the Erantry Quest an old law that has become a dead letter? Now that you’re saying that….”

“Are you ignoring what it says in the codex?”

The Wisdom Order was excited and hung on. The Mercy Order which had been defending Azadin by citing the provisions of the Codex had the opportunity to counterattack with the Codex.

While the Mercy Church was silent the priests of the Courage and Wisdom Church had already decided to give the Erantry quest and began discussing which quest to give.

“What kind of Erantree quest should I give you? Something as simple as slaying a band of bandits would be an insult to Lord Azadin. Isn’t he worthy of the title of Count of Arangi?”

“The Kingdom of Banling suddenly fell but we don’t know the truth. Let’s investigate the fall of the Kingdom of Banling.”

“Oh and let’s also find Bishop Akenar of Banreung. Find Bishop Akenar’s whereabouts and investigate the fall of the Kingdom of Banreung. Isn’t that great? Akenar also happens to be his guardian at the time. It makes sense.”

    “….”

The Order of Wisdom and the Order of Courage were so excited that they began to establish quests. However the difficulty level was not something that could be given to a mere trainee.

All the rescuers were jealous of Azadin.

There is an ulterior motive behind the Arangi Kingdom’s decision to remove the Earl’s position at this time. It is by no means a good position. Even the position of the Margrave of the Naisandhokar region which was destroyed in the past is a shameful position that can be called a poisoned chalice.

Nevertheless the priests of the Knights Templar who had experienced forced ordination against their will felt unbearable jealousy envy and anger toward Azadin who was from the Herald Clan and had been given the position of Count.

“Isn’t this quest too much for a mere trainee?”

The Charity Order had to struggle to contain the wrath of its rampaging clergy.

Everyone had actually expected that the Kingdom of Banreung would suddenly go on a rampage. It was probably because the Nether-related research at Banreung Academy was going wild. But asking them to investigate that was no different from telling them to go die.

‘Gareth that crazy dwarf bastard is back in trouble again. The shit dog keeps shitting. The most vicious thing is when he says he has no ill intentions. You annoying dwarf.’

The Mercy Church looked at Gareth with hate for mentioning the Erantry quest.

Sir Gareth the author has always been like that. He is not someone who does not keep the line but he is someone who mechanically maintains neutrality thinking that he has done as much as he can while keeping the line and that this is realistic.

A person who doesn’t do anything bad enough to be hostile but is too annoying to be liked.

    That was Gareth.

“Then we the Knights of Courage will approve the Erantry quest.”

    “We will join you too.”

The Wisdom Order including Triodana also approved the Erantree quest.

In this way the Erantry quest was approved by majority vote even though the Mercy Church opposed it.

    *********

When Azadin decided to receive the title of count Arangi sent an envoy from the king.

“Then Count Azadin. Congratulations. It is unprecedented for a man of the Herald Clan to become a vassal of the Kingdom of Arangi. Know that it was only possible through His Majesty the King’s generosity and you should repay that generosity with all your heart.”

The king’s messenger gave Azadin the signet ring of Naisandokhar and the vassalage contract while reciting the unnecessary story of bloodline. It was not large enough for Azadin’s finger so he threaded a string through the ring and wore it around his neck.

It was a simple coronation ceremony without a banquet or a circus.

But all the soldiers came rushing in and cheering.

    “Long live Count Azadin!”

“May the angels bless the Count!”

Azadin responded to the cheers of his soldiers and distributed fiefs in the Naisandhokar region to his subordinates who had performed meritorious deeds.

The Azadin warlords including the non-commissioned officers who controlled the soldiers were given fiefs and appointed to the rank of servants.

It was an unprecedented reward and punishment.

Of course now that Fimbulbert has begun it is questionable whether the fiefs received in this way will be able to produce any crops…

The idea that if they survived they could become a quasi-noble servant with a fief was a great way to boost the morale of the soldiers.

    “As expected it’s Azadin!”

“Now you should call me Count!”

    “Long live the Count!”

Those who received the food and those who did not were also excited and happy.

But then a messenger jumped out from the pigeon tower that controlled the western district and ran towards Azadin.

“Count Bae. This is a big problem.”

    “What’s the big deal?”

“The Erantree quest has arrived from the Rescue Knights.”

    “Erantree Quest?”

It was a very old and time-honored ritual that a trainee knight had to perform to be recognized as a full-fledged hospitalist.

Now it has become meaningless so you can be recognized as a hospitalist without having to perform any separate missions just by filling the required number of years but the upper echelons of the Rescue Knights gave Azadin the Erantry quest.

“Let’s see. What is the King of Kings? Don’t the King’s Church guys know no shame?”

Azadin did not react to the blatant restraint that clearly revealed his true intentions.

He was more interested in the gossip and rumors of the world written in the Western world.

Among them was news that the King’s Church had awarded the title of King of Kings to Cohen Lionaire of the North and recognized the Northern Alliance as an official union of kings.

In addition Northern Cohen was approved as an advisor to the Celestial Fire Knights.

As Azadin was granted the title of count and expanded his army Cohen Lionaire was gradually seizing power.

“I am only a count now and this interest is already threatening to swallow up all of Hybris.”

Azadin felt fearful of the Northern Qi whose power was expanding faster than his own.
