    #333. Samunhoe 3

“I am Bishop Sehnath of the North Diocese of St. Mallory. Are you Azadin the Novice Knight?”

Sehnat explained his position and looked down at Azadin.

    “yes.”

“Now then the council will begin its investigation and inquiry with the apprentice knight Sir Azadin. I Bishop Sehnath of the Northern Diocese of St. Mallory will preside over the meeting. Are there any objections?”

    Then Azadin raised his hand.

    “Okay. Go ahead.”

“First let me ask you a question. What is the meeting about?”

“It is an incident where we fought against the Kingdom of Banreung and invaded the Sandokar County. It will also be a punishment for all our actions up to that point.”

“That’s too broad of a question. Even at this moment there may be a vampire threat approaching Sandokar. Can’t you narrow down the scope of the question? Calling in a field commander and asking him about trivial matters from decades ago? Isn’t that a waste of time?”

Everyone was taken aback by Azadin’s confident words.

Once a meeting of monks begins those who are called in tend to tremble in fear and not know what to do.

However Azadin was indifferent and criticized the unproductive aspects of the council.

For someone who had been summoned to a private meeting his attitude was too confident.

“Sir Azadin. You have been summoned for your crimes. The crime of waging war against the Kingdom of Banrung while holding the banner of the Knights Templar without permission is a serious crime punishable by death. To be honest I should be grateful that they are holding a meeting like this instead of killing you right now.”

Bishop Sehnat claimed that Azadin had committed a mortal sin.

An ordinary person would be shocked and at a loss if the death penalty was mentioned even in passing. However Azadin who had been through a lot calmly defended himself.

“So let’s just ask questions about this prior sin part. It’s counterproductive to make it too long.”

“Nonsense! What I’m saying is that you have committed a great sin and should bow your head!”

“I claim to be innocent but Your Majesty you already think I am a sinner. Then why are you holding a séance?”

“How impudent! You claim innocence? After invading the Kingdom of Banling and slaughtering its prince? Not only is it unprincipled but it’s also shameless.”

“I’m not fighting the legitimate Banreung Kingdom. I’m fighting the vampires that were hiding in Banreung Kingdom.”

“Are you asking me to believe the absurd report that Prince Kalzmati of Banreung was a vampire?”

“There are also absurd incidents where the children of the Northern Emperor and the members of the Rescue Knights are being reincarnated as Celestials by changing the statues of angels. Compared to that isn’t this a much more believable statement? It looks like the bishop also made a pact to be reincarnated as a Celestial…”

    “this?!”

Bishop Sehnat’s face hardened at Azadin’s counterattack.

He had never seen a subordinate challenge him so openly. Moreover Azadin knew the agreement between him and the Northern Emperor as clearly as the back of his hand.

Azadin assumed that it was true but Bishop Sehnat’s reaction showed that it was true.

    The bishop’s hands are trembling.

    “You you you dare to….”

“Isn’t the reason you’re trying to hold a private investigation because you’ve been caught on tape and you’re angry about it and you want to take it out on me? It looks like you’re running here excitedly thinking this is your chance to beat up this guy without even reading the statement. If you’re going to hold a private investigation shouldn’t you be starting with those guys who grinded up the statue of the angels? You’re leaving them alone and applying strict standards to me. It’s so obvious how you feel.”

    “…….”

The Tersio soldiers and the gathered Fire Guards were startled. Few of them understood what Azadin was saying at this meeting as it was a fact that was not yet known to them.

But once you’ve heard it the problem is.

“There. Sir Azadin. There are many ears listening to such confidential information…”

Prince Kalintz tried to stop Azadin.

“Then should we clear out the troops?”

    “…That’s also difficult.”

“Then shall we continue the inquiry in a broad direction? Not limited to this prior sin but very broadly. Would you be satisfied if I told you what I saw at St. Mallory in front of all the people who saw and heard it?”

    “…….”

Bishop Sehnath was gasping for breath. This bloody soulless blasphemous ugly king-killing bastard was arrogantly confronting him the bishop. But in reality Azadin was holding the sword.

We must not let Azadin babble on as he pleases.

“…only limited to the part about prior apology.”

Triodana asked the Bishop to accept Azadin’s offer. As a Celestial he was not happy to see Celestial secrets exposed to the world.

“Then it’s good. By narrowing it down to the part about prior sins there’s a better chance that this useless interrogation will end a little sooner.”

“Useless? Are you trying to insult the party’s committee members?”

Triodana rebuked Azadin on behalf of the mute Bishop Sehnat.

“The point is whether what I testified is true or not. But in reality Count Sandokar asked for my help. If Count Sandokar is not a traitor to the Kingdom of Banling then my claim is right and Count Sandokar is asking for my help right?”

“I suspect that you annexed Sandokkar by force.”

“Then let’s send an investigation team to inspect the Sandokar area and call in Count Sandokar to ask him. I think we should hold a meeting of the council after that. I don’t think you are ready yet.”

Azadin pointed out the sloppiness of the proceedings. He was pointing out that the prosecution was completely unprepared for a fair trial.

Of course the Samunhoe was originally an unfair trial.

If the prosecution continued to raise suspicions the defendant would answer those suspicions in good faith and it was a formality to decide whether or not to punish them and if so to what degree.

In other words once a defendant is brought before the Inquisition he or she is put on the gallows.

But Azadin calmly claimed his innocence and shifted the burden of proof to the prosecution.

Bishop Sehnat who had barely caught his breath became enraged and let out a harpy-like noise.

“How rude! You should know that I can punish you just for the rudeness you showed to your superiors! Don’t you intend to clarify the suspicions being leveled at you?”

“…Shouldn’t the one raising the suspicion be the one to prove it? If that’s the case then I also suspect that Bishop Sehnath is selling out the Knights of Salvation in exchange for being reincarnated as a Celestial after death in cooperation with the Northern Emperor.”

“What?! You rude bastard! What are you doing! Look no further! This guy is a traitor! It’s clear that the Herald Clan has planted a spy in the Knights!”

Bishop Sehnat was furious and shouted orders to those around him.

But Triodana and Gareth were in an awkward position.

Azadin’s remarks are clearly provocative and rebellious to the bishop. But…

    He was telling the truth.

It is also true that Bishop Sehnath fell for the Northern Emperor’s temptation to reincarnate as a Celestial…

Then it would be true that Azadin is blocking the vampires of Banling in Sandokhar.

Considering Azadin’s ability to suddenly appear and save the transport ship when it was on the verge of burning the Salvage Knights would have to make enormous sacrifices to kill Azadin.

No his absence itself is a loss of power and talent.

I don’t want to fight with him if possible.

“What the heck! This is an order! Shoot this guy!”

The bishop gave his orders to the soldiers as they hesitated.

    The Tercios glanced at Gareth.

Gareth looked at them and the bishop then gestured.

The Tercio soldiers stationed in the gallery simultaneously aimed their guns at the defendant’s box.

“You can just shoot the bishop to death without a proper trial? Aren’t you ashamed?”

Azadin laughed at the bishop’s behavior.

“You brought this upon yourself! You rude rascal!”

    “….”

But then the Fireguard the soldiers of Fireglyph who were guarding the temple aimed their spears at the Tersio soldiers from behind.

“Please stop. I cannot tolerate a brawl within the courtroom of a chapter under my jurisdiction.”

    Prince Calintz has stepped forward.

    “…Calintz.”

Triodana was taken aback when she saw Prince Kalintz taking Azadin’s side in this situation.

Clearly he had come separately before the meeting and clearly informed Kalinz but Kalinz took Azadin’s side.

The Tercio soldiers of the Order of Courage flinched as the Fireguards aimed their spears at them. The Tercio regiment renowned for its fearsome power was forced to fight with cold weapons at this close range.

The Fire Guards are standing behind them so the advantage of firearms is lost.

“If you don’t take your hands off the trigger this court will be filled with blood. What are you going to do?”

As Prince Kalintz spoke and signaled the Fireguards moved quickly without any hesitation indicating that they were already preparing to strike the back of the Tercios’ heads in case of an emergency.

No from the beginning Prince Kalintz was on Azadin’s side.

‘He told me to leave him as his brother but he didn’t take me in at all.’

Sir Gareth knew that Triodana had arrived at Fireglyph first in order to recruit Kalintz but the recruitment had failed miserably.

‘I can’t shed blood for nothing.’

Sir Gareth knew that Prince Calintz was sincere and motioned to his men.

“Everyone stop it. If you fight inside the courtroom I won’t tolerate anyone.”

When Sir Gareth stopped them the Tercios put away their weapons. The Fireguards also put away their weapons when they saw this.

    “Then Sir Azadin please continue.”

Gareth gathered the Tercios and demanded that Azadin continue speaking.

    “These ungodly bastards!”

Bishop Sehnath was indignant at Gareth’s betrayal.

From Bishop Sehnat’s perspective neither Gareth Kalintz nor Azadin could tolerate the three of them rebelling against him.

“I also showed my sincerity in consideration of the hard work of the members of the council who came a long way but at this very moment evil vampires are attacking Sandokar and I am worried that I will not be able to fulfill my duty while I am away. Isn’t the most important mission of the Knights of Salvation to protect innocent people from the hands of evil? Therefore if you are going to indict me I hope you will gather more evidence before indicting me. Indicting me based on suspicion and then trying to verbally pressure the defendant into confessing is something that only uncivilized people would do not something that the Knights of Salvation would do. Then may I go?”

“How impertinent! Sir Azadin! I will continue to hold the Inquisition until you properly answer my questions! Take your seats!”

It was when Bishop Sehnat shouted like that.

    “This is a big deal!”

Zan the 10th lieutenant of the Northern Aragasa and a confidant of Prince Kalintz rushed into the Samunhoe Hall.
