Night of the Soulless Heathens – 331
by Jessie@AFNCC
#331. Samunhoe 1
A major incident occurred where Azadin a trainee knight of the Rescue Knights invaded the border of the Kingdom of Banreung killed Prince Kalzmati of Banreung and took over the Sandokar County Territory.
This alone would have turned the world upside down. But what happened next was even more so.
Count Sandokar reported the Banleung royal family to the king’s church.
The crime was vampirism. It was treason against humanity.
The prince of Banreung Kalzmati was a vampire and his attack broke the contract between the king and his subjects so he intended to serve Azadin as his new lord and ask the Knights of Salvation to protect Sandokar.
The Kingdom of Banling naturally denied the charges and excommunicated Count Sandokar as a traitor.
*********
“Crazy…!”
Prince Kalintz who had written Azadin’s pass slammed his fist into the desk of the Chapter Master of Fireglyph and struck his head on it.
“Whoa whoa. Calm down. Calm down. You’re wasting your stuff.”
Azadin the mastermind behind this enormous incident remained calm.
He was more concerned about the objects colliding with it than Prince Calintz’s head.
“You crazy bastard! What if we invade?! And how did you win? No you’re so talented! How did you take the entire county?”
“It’s not that I ate it but rather that I fell into the Count’s trap. In fact as the Count I confirmed with my own eyes that Prince Ban-Ryeong was a vampire when he died in his territory.”
“But why to you a trainee knight…”
“If the Count bows his head to me a soulless blasphemer and a member of the herald clan won’t he be able to attract the attention of the King’s Church and the world? If I were to just say that there is a vampire in the Banreung royal family would the King’s Church listen? They would immediately shut their mouths.”
In fact the incident in which Sandokkar accused the Ban Lung royal family was quickly spreading throughout the world.
Azadin who already had a reputation for subduing the heroes of Chadra now had his fame spreading like wildfire.
With the attention of the entire world focused on it the Banreung royal family could no longer afford to be stubborn.
“Then Sandokar’s Evecheck is actually using you too right? You know that….”
“I originally planned to make a trade route there but if I lose to Sandokkar and Chuck the trade route I made will be completely ruined. Of course I can escape to Arangi or fly around on a hippogriff. It’s not like I can’t smuggle. Also it would be bad if I didn’t accept the offer to surrender when the other party singled me out.”
“Hmm. No the Wisdom Order is plotting to harm you and you’re doing such a good thing. You’re definitely a member of the Samunhoe. The Samunhoe. How can a cultivator take on such a big task? You should have asked your superiors before making a decision!”
“Honestly this matter deserves a public hearing.”
Azadin also regretted that he had done too much to the Rescue Knights this time.
From the Rescue Knights’ point of view they accepted a guy who was already despised by everyone in the world a soulless blasphemer a killer of the god king and all sorts of bad rumors about him but doesn’t he just cause major accidents?

Taking over the border county of Banreung Kingdom is no small matter.
As Prince Calintz said it was something that should have been asked to the higher-ups first before a decision was made.
Of course if that were the case the Sandokar County would have been trampled by the Banryeong Kingdom during that time and Azadin would have no reason to protect the Sandokar County and no reason to fight with the Banryeong Kingdom…
Count Sandokar gambled with his own life on the line and Azadin accepted the gamble.
“What will you do if the Wisdom Order calls you to St. Mallory to appear before the council?”
“But I can’t leave right now. I’m deploying troops toward the Sandokar County.”
“Forward deployment…..”
Prince Calintz covered his face with his hands.
In other words Azadin moved his soldiers because he was worried that the Kingdom of Banling would invade Sandokar.
From the perspective of the Kingdom of Banreung a man known to the entire world as a madman brought troops and stationed them next to the border.
The story goes like this.
“Are you saying you’re going to refuse to appear at the inquiry meeting? You’re going to stage a show of force like a local war!”
“Postponement. To be exact. If an all-out war breaks out the meeting can be postponed right? I think that’s the rule.”
“There is such a rule?”
Prince Calintz looked through the codex.
It is of course possible to request a postponement of the appearance at the Confucian Council. When there are important matters the rescuer can request that the superior postpone the Confucian Council. However this has never been actually used so far. Let alone the trainee!
But it does exist by regulation.
“Really?”
“There is ample reason for the delay as we must prepare to fight the vampires of the Banreung Kingdom.”
“That may be so. But are you really going to ignore the Samunhoe and go to war with the Banreung Kingdom?”
“Oh watch your words. We’re not fighting the Banreung Kingdom we’re fighting the vampires that are eating away at the Banreung Kingdom. And there might even be a solution to the Elemental Wailing. Do the Rescue Knights really need permission from their superiors to fight vampires? No right?”
Certainly there is no need for a Paladin to obtain permission from his superiors to fight monsters such as vampires.
however….
“Are you saying that you a mere trainee are willing to fight against the entire kingdom? The dwarves are the ones who couldn’t conquer Aranggi or even the Yaegas gods.”
“I only fight vampires. Their identities are masks chosen by vampires to infiltrate the human world.”
“Okay. So what can I help you with?”
“Say it to your superiors in private. If you include me in the Samunhoe their authority may be undermined. Wouldn’t it be better to wait and see how things go? That’s what I’m saying.”
“…….”
“why?”
“Isn’t that provocation?”
“Is this a provocation? I said what I thought was the unvarnished truth.”
“What would the great bishops and high-ranking paladins think if they heard from a mere trainee that sending me to the sect could ruin the reputation of the knight order? I think it would be best not to say that.”
“If you don’t like that then maybe it would be better to promote me. Then it would be less embarrassing to be treated by a high-ranking paladin rather than a mere apprentice knight right?”
“Kuuuuuu. This kid. Are you serious?”
Prince Kalintz couldn’t help but laugh out loud at Azadin’s cheeky answer.
“I don’t know. Okay I’ll tell you exactly what you said. But I’m not trying to be pretentious about it you know as the Chapter Master of Fireglyphs doing something like that?”
“I am always grateful to the prince. Thank you for taking such difficult steps with me.”

“…I guess I’ll get stabbed in the side and get a bow.”
Prince Kalintz decided to go on a boat with Azadin since it had come to this. He had made that decision a long time ago but why was he so anxious?
“What else can I help you with?”
“Please advance the troops so that the defenses of Vermillion Yongcheonji etc. are weakened so just provide some rear support.”
“Understood. Let’s maintain security in the rear and deploy patrols on the roads.”
Prince Kalintz promised to provide rear support so that Azadin could have a full-scale fight against the Kingdom of Banling.
*********
After reporting to Prince Kalintz Azadin headed to the Sandokar Gate.
He leads soldiers and laborers to clear the road to the Sandokar Gate and defeats monsters along the way.
In addition work has begun to repair the Sandokar Gate that was destroyed by the vampire attack.
“Oh really. I’m so embarrassed. Haha. I didn’t think about the aftermath and just… I feel bad for receiving help like this. What should I do?”
Count Sandokar Ivechek was smirking as he watched Azadin personally bring his men to repair the gate fortress.
“I saw it on my way here and the land here is fertile. It’s also a border area. The customs revenue will be considerable and agricultural production will be considerable. Why hasn’t it developed?”
The route from the Chadra Plateau to Sandhokar had fertile land as sediments accumulated as water flowed down from the Chadra Plateau.
Despite the presence of Bree goblins beasts and monsters this land’s potential was also considerable.
“What do you mean you didn’t make any progress?”
“It would be very productive if we paved the roads well and cleaned up the monsters that were appearing on the roadside. Why didn’t we do that before?”
“Hahaha. The land between the Sandokar County and the Chadra Plateau is an ambiguous area between the Kingdom of Banling and the Knights’ Territory so I left it alone. If I mess with it it will become a political problem.”
Count Sandokar Ivchek made a remark that seemed to mock Azadin’s current blunder. Wasn’t Azadin’s act of taking over the politically sensitive land between the Chadra Plateau and the Kingdom of Banrung a blunder?
It’s such a sarcastic remark.
He ridicules Azadin’s choice to accept it even though he himself surrendered to Azadin and handed over Sandokar.
Although Evechek swore allegiance to Azadin for extraordinary reasons he was not a lunatic obsessed with chivalry.
It was for thorough political and material considerations that he pledged allegiance to Azadin.
“Hmm….”
When Azadin did not respond Ivechek perhaps thinking that his words had gone too far quickly began making excuses to change the mood.
“Besides this area is swarming with Bree and Goblins. You might be able to cut down Bree like weeds by the roadside but most soldiers don’t even want to look at them. I wear this armor that was handed down to me by my ancestors but I’m not very good at fighting. Not everyone is a warrior.”
Azadin looked around his territory listening to Ivechek’s excuses.
Although the roads were not well paved and there were not many farms this Sandokkar was wealthy.
The people are well-nourished the army is well-armed and supplies are plentiful.
“I guess it was sweet that Dwarven Arrow stabbed him in exchange for turning a blind eye to drug smuggling. It must have been hard to move soldiers who weren’t even good enough to fight off monsters.”
“Ugh…..”
Evechek bit his tongue unable to find a response to Azadin’s words.
“We’ll crush all the Dwarven Arrows and drug smuggling rings. You identify the drug addicts in your territory. And select the ones you want to recruit as standing soldiers. It’ll be a lot easier than slaying the beasts Count Evechek?”
“Of course I can do that much.”
Evecheck felt infinitely intimidated as he looked into Azadin’s purple eyes that seemed to pierce through his inner thoughts.
“Don’t worry Count Ivechek. I highly value the fact that you a count of Sandokar have entrusted me with your sword and pledged your loyalty to me and that this is not an act that can be done simply for profit or plotting.”
Azadin knew that it was no ordinary resolution for Evechek a member of the Yaegas royal family to entrust him with the sword.
If he had simply pledged his loyalty to Azadin without any political considerations Azadin would have rejected him.
“Thank you. But by the way are you okay? The Rescue Knights are….”
Count Sandokar Ivechek now came to worry about Azadin.
“It’s probably okay. But it’s quite a distance from St. Mallory to here so it’ll probably take quite some time to move properly. I hope it’ll be resolved within that time….”
Azadin spoke nonchalantly as if it were someone else’s business.
