    #324. Banreung Expedition 3

This dwarven organization including the Dwarven Arrow Chashan was in fact the darkness of Banreung Academy and Banreung Kingdom.

The Kingdom of Banling a union of the Eight Kings and the Dwarf Kingdom was supporting an international criminal organization for their own ambitions and that was the Dwarven Arrow. Although it was said to be created by Chashan in the end Chashan was nothing more than a puppet of the Kingdom of Banling.

So Azadin kept Chashan alive even at great cost and this was the reward. He had been caught twice after causing trouble and now he is doing this.

Azadin who kept Chashan alive was also responsible for the pain and loss of Iza’s fingers.

“What are you going to do? Judging from the state of the torture the inside of the hand is vicious. It must have been done while the fingers were still attached to the body while the victim was alive. It seems like they wanted to cause as much pain as possible.”

Bernard judged it that way by looking at the condition of the finger. If the fingernails were torn off and burned on a finger that had lost vitality and blood circulation without any additional damage from blood circulation only that part would be severely burned and the flesh would fall off.

But even after the flesh was torn off the traces of blood being drawn out and the traces of pain spreading to the surroundings as the blood circulated even as the flesh burned away it is clear that the dwarves committed a cruel act against the merchants of Azadin.

“Of course you have to make them pay the price.”

Azadin and his men went down the smuggling road and entered the territory of the Kingdom of Banling.

We’ve crossed the border but there are no checkpoints or guards.

Even though it is the territory of the Kingdom of Banling the basin beneath the Chadra Plateau is a forested area and has been inhabited by goblins and Breeds since ancient times.

Most of the people who live in villages like this were post stations created by the Dwarven Arrow drug trafficking organization.

As soon as Azadin’s party arrived at a nearby village armed dwarves appeared as if they had been waiting.

“As expected! There’s no way you’d come over to the Kingdom of Banreung as a large army! You were Azadin!”

“I’ll show you what Blunderbuss tastes like! You uncivilized humans!”

The dwarves burst out with loaded blunderbusses.

They were confident in their weapons. The blunderbuss a wide-bore matchlock gun with a long bayonet was too heavy for any but the dwarves to handle but a ten-man squad could hold off even the most elite knightly assaults.

    ‘Fighting Tercio is suicidal.’

Even Scott who would be sad if he were told to be second in confidence said the same thing but this Dwarven Blunderbuss formation was evaluated as a terrible formation even more terrible than Tercio. That is why the Dwarven Blunderbuss actually does not spread outside the Banreung Kingdom.

The Flintlock Blunderbuss is a piece of equipment that is kept out of sight within the Dwarven Kingdom.

The fact that he brought this weapon out shows that Chashan is not hiding the fact that he has a powerful member of the dwarven royal family as his patron. That must be how confident he is that he will win. If he can completely subdue Azadin and his party here he can hide the fact that the dwarven Blunderbuss unit is involved.

    however….

As Azadin snapped his fingers a figure appeared behind the dwarf sorcerers.

The half-vampire Niselda appeared behind them.

Shadow Jumping was Niselda’s specialty a spell that allowed her to move from shadow to shadow through the Shadow Realm a skill that had vampire blood in it.

    And that’s not all.

-The land spider of flowers birds wind and moon!

Azadin also appeared next to the dwarves.

    “100 million?!”

    -Boom!

    -Crack!

Niselda drew out a side sword on each side and slaughtered the Blunderbuss soldiers. The dwarves were heavily clad in chainmail and gambitons but Niselda’s side sword pierced their faces.

Azadin swung his Blue Executioner and struck the Blunderbuss soldiers sending the dwarves flying with their arms and necks cut off.

Azadin who originally preferred to subdue rather than kill or inflict fatal injuries was enraged by Chashan’s provocation.

The Blunderbuss faction collapses as an enraged Azadin and Niselda enter and rampage among the dwarves.

    and….

Spiders made of blood wriggled among them causing the Blunderbuss shooters’ guns to point skyward.

Bernard used blood magic to create blood spiders from the wounds of the injured disrupting the Blunderbuss’ shooting.

    -Boom boom!

After you’ve shot the Blunderbuss in vain the dead dwarves rise as undead. Scott uses his necromancy to instantly turn the dead into undead.

    “…what?!”

“Hey you guys! Weren’t you knights?”

The dwarves were thrown into confusion when blood magic and necromancy appeared.

“Why do you dwarf mafia guys cut off a strict man’s finger and send him away and then want your opponent to fight you as an old-fashioned knight? Are you the only ones who do bad things?”

    Scott grumbled.

“Help me! What are you guys doing!”

The panicked dwarf shouted to the villagers. The villagers were armed with pitchforks sickles and halberds but they were too scared to come forward as they saw the might of Azadin and his party sweeping away the Blunderbuss in an instant.

    “shut up.”

Azadin branded the dwarf captain who encouraged the villagers to join the war as the Blue Executioner.

The dwarf captain’s head splits open blood spurting out.

The villagers who saw this threw down their weapons.

    “I surrender!”

“We did nothing. What can we do when the dwarves threaten us with weapons?”

“Then everyone put down your weapons and stand here.”

Azadin called them over not hiding his anger. He divided them into halves and questioned them separately.

“Where did these dwarves come from?”

    “That… came from the northeast.”

“Who is in charge? How many gang members are there? How many troops are there?”

Azadin divided the residents of the post town into two groups and questioned them as well as the captured dwarven blunderbuss shooters and dwarven sorcerers and confirmed that everyone’s answers were the same.

The Dwarven Arrow a drug syndicate and dwarf drug syndicate is officially a drug syndicate and a criminal organization. However they were afraid of losing their drug manufacturing facility so they brought in more troops than a single drug syndicate and criminal organization could handle and spread them around the area.

However since we didn’t know where Azadin’s group would come from we scattered them in several places so there weren’t many people deployed at each location.

    “Okay. Defeat them all individually.”

“What about the prisoners? If we leave them behind it will be difficult to defeat them individually.”

Jibek who had followed Azadin asked.

    “What is Sir Jibek’s recommendation?”

    “My recommendation is…..”

    “It’s killing me.”

Instead of Zibek the blood wizard Bernard spoke.

“Keeping them alive will only expose our movements. It would be better to kill them.”

    “…….”

Zibek was speechless at Bernard’s words. Actually it was reasonable.

They say they had no choice but to say it because they were threatened by the dwarves but they are the residents of the Kingdom of Banreung and this is basically a place where you cannot survive without cooperating with that dwarven arrow.

If we just leave it alone Dwarven Arrow will somehow pass on information about Azadin’s group.

However Azadin’s party is not large enough to be taken prisoner. Although they were able to make a preemptive strike with overwhelming destructive power and take them out Azadin’s party is limited to less than ten people due to the number of passes.

The number authorized on the pass is five.

Even including those who followed Azadin claiming that they would not be caught there were only seven people.

“Well that’s not tactically wrong. But Bernard I’m a hospitalist. I can’t kill those who surrender.”

“Then what are you going to do? Are you going to use them as soldiers?”

    “Use another method.”

    Azadin ordered the villagers.

“For the next two hours make some real smoke. Make it look like the whole town is on fire to attract other guys.”

    “…yes?”

“Make sure the smoke is high enough that the village feels like it’s on fire. Give me two hours. After two hours the smoke should be visible for ten leagues around here. If the smoke doesn’t rise I’ll come back and punish you.”

    “….”

From now on we will have to gather a lot of firewood and if necessary cut down the roofs of houses and burn the shingles and thatch to create some decent smoke.

It’s a tough ask to produce smoke that can be seen from 10 leagues in just two hours.

Of course it’s much better than being wiped out.

“You better start preparing now. If you don’t light the fire I’ll drag you all away and force you into hard labor. I’ll tie up the survivors and leave.”

After saying those words Azadin tied up and hung up the dwarf Blunderbuss unit and left with his men.

    “Oh what should I do?”

    The townspeople were confused.

“Ugh. It’s like a shrimp getting its back broken in a fight between whales. Let’s do this! There’s a forest nearby so let’s light a fire and dig up some firewood! If that doesn’t work let’s burn down some of the roofs that are there.”

    “The roof?”

“Yeah. I think I’ll take this opportunity to change the roof!”

The villagers busily prepared to light a fire.

    *********

    “Oh. It’s starting to move.”

A dwarf sorcerer opened his eyes.

Just as Azadin and Aragatha used the magic of the Foresight or the Voice of the Emperor to scout out their surroundings the dwarven sorcerers of Banling could scout out their surroundings with the magic of Earth Reverberation.

This magic which allows them to know their surroundings through the sound transmitted through the ground allows them to hear the sound of Blunderbuss shots much more clearly than through air. They cannot hear human speech because it does not shake the ground much but they can distinguish the noise and vibration of humans fighting.

“There was a fight over here. I see the noise has died down…”

The dwarven sorcerer analyzed the sounds he heard with his earth echo magic and spoke.

“It seems like the village’s troops have been annihilated.”

“What? There was a platoon of Blunderbusses? How many troops did he bring?”

Then one of the dwarves among them spat and stood up. It was Chashan who had escaped from Azadin’s capture.

“I told you not to ignore that kid. He’s the guy who defeated Chadra Ogel and rose to fame. And he’s a member of the Herald Clan!”

    “boss.”

“We know where the enemies are so gather all your forces! If we don’t wipe them out at once we’ll be the ones to suffer. Hey Grounders. Where are they now?”

A dwarf sorcerer called the Earthkeeper cast a spell of earth echo and laid his head on the ground listening.

    “…I don’t know.”

“What? You don’t know? Aren’t they going to move? You can’t find them either?”

But Chashan’s brothers and cousins tried to dissuade him.

“Instead of blaming the landowner you should think about something else brother.”

“Yeah. There’s this guy Selim. Is he coming by any chance riding a griffon or something?”

“Griffon? Fly in? That’s great. Just come!”

The ones that fly in through the sky are perfect for dealing with with the Blunderbuss.

Whether it’s a hippogriff or a griffon if you shoot it with a blunderbuss it will fly and then crash. Although the hippogriff or griffon will recover its flying ability midway the rider hanging on its back will fall helplessly.

If Azadin and his party came riding on a hippogriff it would be a welcome development for the dwarves.
