    #320. Herald of Famine 4

Karna’s ceramite longsword shines dazzlingly and a tremendous amount of flames erupts like an active volcano.

A heat that seemed like it could even melt iron emanated from Karna.

‘I thought Triodana was stronger than Karna but Karna is also quite strong. He must be tough right?’

Azadin was amazed to see Karna’s true face before his eyes.

It seems like Azadin who has been using Garura recklessly to protect the transport ship from the messenger clan and the Nagas will be quite a tough opponent.

    “Azadin I guess you are…..”

“But can I set fire to it here?”

    “….”

There is a convoy behind Azadin. If Karna’s attack misses the convoy will catch fire. Even now smoke is rising from various parts of the convoy due to the heat from Karna’s explosion.

“I do not have the scroll of my previous life. Even if you take out your anger on me here it will not be able to hide the actions of the Northern Emperor. Nevertheless if you must capture me I will resist. However if not shall we go our separate ways from here? Lord Karna.”

“I want to believe that. But… unfortunately Lord Azadin that cannot be. You know too much.”

“Hmm? Didn’t you say you were grateful for rescuing the transport ship?”

“Yes. So I’ll kill you and reincarnate you as a Celestial! That’ll be better than living as an Aragasa!”

    “Ah… hahaha. That’s a funny story?!”

At that moment Karna’s sword shot out with flames.

Azadin counters Karna’s sword with the Blue Executioner’s sword but surprisingly Azadin is pushed back.

Having used up so much magic power to protect the transport ship Azadin’s physical condition was not good to say the least. Furthermore even if Azadin had deflected Karna’s sword…

As Karna swings his wings in the air flames follow and engulf Azadin.

A surprised Jibek spread his cloak and jumped in kicking away the flying flames and reciting the divine punishment spell to attack Karna.

“Are you planning to burn all the transport ships?”

Jibek glared at Karna in anger. Karna chose to kill Azadin and silence him even if it meant setting the transport ship on fire.

Of course Karna can’t burn the transport ships just by swinging his sword and scattering flames.

The messenger clan’s fire arrows were designed to attack multiple transport ships at the same time preventing them from carrying out firefighting operations but Karna was only fighting with one ship in the background… The sailors had already sprinkled river water here and there so it didn’t burn right away.

But what if Karna’s attack hits the transport ship directly? Then it would be a different story.

“If I had this kind of power I could have used it when I fought the Nagas earlier.”

    “Azadin!”

As Karna was rushing towards Azadin in indignation… an arrow flew from the river.

    -Wedge!

With a sound like the wind was ripping the arrow struck Karna leaving behind several afterimages.

Karna’s armor and wings deflected the arrows but blood spurted out.

    “Huh?! There’s another messenger clan?”

Azadin took advantage of the gap and grabbed Scott and Zibek’s belts with both hands before leaping backwards.

It may seem odd that a large muscular orc wearing metal armor would be carrying a Xebek in each hand but Azadin not only lifted them with ease but also launched himself into the water kicking off the water’s surface and boarding the ship.

There were three men and women from the messenger clan on this ship and they were the ones who shot Karna with arrows.

“Although my proposal is still valid Lord Karna. Rather than trying to silence me why don’t you consult with the Order of Courage? It was a trap of the Order of Courage to let me go in the first place and would you a member of the Order of Wisdom be fooled into such a trap?”

A person belonging to the Wisdom Sect is tricked into a plot by the Courage Sect.

In a way it was a scene that clearly revealed the current reality of the Knights Templar. They were showing behavior that was different from the virtues of the Knights Templar they belonged to.

    “Azadin!”

As Karna grew indignant his wings spewed out shards of flame like an erupting volcano setting the transport ship on fire.

    “Lord Karna!”

Izmilla stopped him and immediately gave instructions to the other Celestials who were behind him.

“Sir Aramis! Get the digestion started quickly!”

    “huh.”

“Yeah everyone is putting out fires on their boats. Let’s go.”

    “….”

The men and women of the messenger clan who had come to steer the small boat followed Azadin’s words silently striking the oars and sailing down the river. They were incredibly fast even when going against the current.

They quickly began to disappear upriver blocking the river’s path and passing by the stranded transport ships.

    “Huh!”

“It’s exactly as he said. First let’s put out the fire on the transport ship.”

Izmila stopped the enraged Karna and together with other Celestials and members of the Celestial Fire Knights put out the fire on the ship.

“Damn. That bastard Azadin. I was watching him with favor and now he’s doing something like this.”

The Celestial Fire Knights were decimated by the fighting with the Nagas and the Heralds. The Celestials had no casualties but they had suffered casualties among their soldiers and servants and their horses were too exhausted to pursue Azadin.

Besides since Azadin’s men had already escaped on a boat it would have been reasonable to put out the fire on the transport ship as Izmila suggested.

“Izmila. Keep your mouth shut about what you just heard.”

    “yes.”

Izmila followed Azadin’s footsteps with her eyes and answered.

    *********

    “Azadin. I’m glad you’re safe.”

The woman holding the pole looked back at Azadin and sighed.

“You really start to resemble Arael.”

“Yes Dimia. You are safe too.”

The ones who pulled this small boat were none other than the four flower-loving Dimia and bird-loving Seraphs of the Moon who were Arael’s former confidants.

Since Arael gave her life to Azadin and died they have been secretly investigating the Aragasas in order to continue Arael’s legacy.

They followed the Aragasas who were attacking the transport ships and when they saw Azadin protecting the transport ships they couldn’t stand to see him risking his life fighting Karna so they came to help.

Azadin noticed this and jokingly provoked Karna into focusing his consciousness on himself then quickly managed to escape with Scott and Xebec.

“Now you have completely taken on the appearance of Lady Arael. Surely you are not going to seduce men of the opposite sex and lead a depraved life in that appearance are you?”

Indim looked at Azadin and immediately asked him a rude and absurd question.

“It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. What the hell are you talking about?”

“Then surely not homosexuality? You idiot. I cannot tolerate that. Azadin that is you insulting Lady Arael!”

“It’s okay for the opposite sex but not for the same sex?”

“No I cannot allow you to associate with anyone. You are a being who has inherited the appearance and legacy of Arael-nim. However if you live a dissolute life won’t you become even more of a laughing stock to those who oppose you? If you are ridiculed and despised by others because of Arael-nim’s appearance I cannot forgive you.”

“Haha. That means if I get insulted by others you will be indignant as if it were your own business. That’s what it sounds like.”

“What nonsense! It’s for the will of Lady Arael!”

“I am also a hot-blooded man but are you saying that I should abstain from sex in order to continue Arael’s legacy?”

“Okay. I see. I get it.”

“You know it’s too much even if you think about it right? Then how about you someone I can trust be my opponent? If you keep your mouth shut there won’t be any rumors going around.”

“What? Are you serious? In the form of Arael-sama… No no. That’s it.”

Indim was flustered and didn’t know what to do.

“I told you this guy is really funny.”

Azadin snickered as he watched Indim’s bewildered appearance.

“So what were you guys doing?”

Azadin ignored Indim’s absurd remarks and asked questions to Dimia and Seraph.

“I was following the Senate’s activities.”

“That will be interesting. What are they up to?”

“The clan currently holds the thrones of Korathar and Bthuma but the thrones are rejected by the Senate and do not recognize them as kings. The Nagas have attempted to defile the thrones with the sorcery of the Nether but that too seems to be failing.”

Thanks to Azadin and Arael using all the copies of the Book of the New Kings that they had collected to weave magic into the throne of Bthuma it seemed that even though the Light of the King’s Flower could not protect the kingdoms it was preventing the throne from being corrupted by sorcery.

“The clansmen who expected that taking the throne would relieve them of all their suffering and secure them wealth and power are growing increasingly discontented. The Senate blames you for sabotaging all of this saying that it was the traitor Azadin who killed Elder Kazas and Chief Hatir.”

“Really? But why did the Jo-un ship attack? What happened to the Aragasas?”

“Among the Nagas there has appeared a being called the Southern Heavenly King. He is not the Naga Queen but someone blessed by the Nether’s messenger. He is uniting the Naga forces and planning the overall operation. Fimbulbert is approaching and until then he aims to exhaust the humans’ stockpiles of food and find the divine water called the Sun of the Sunwoo and claim it for himself.”

“Sunwoo’s sun? What does that mean?”

“We don’t know for sure. But if we have it we can survive even in Fimbulbert. That’s what we heard.”

    “Really? Where is it?”

“The Nagas and Aragasas are currently looking for it.”

    “How do I find it?”

    When Azadin asked Dimia smiled.

“Do you know anything about Elemental Whalings?”

    “Ah… that.”

“The number of elemental wailing patients has been increasing all over the world recently. And the Senate has been sending traitors from the Naga clan who have joined hands to seek them out.”

    “……”

“Those who are afflicted with the Elemental Wailing are helpful in finding the Sunwoo Sun. That’s what I think. But we are too few in number to know much more. I’m ashamed Azadin. I’m not of much help.”

“No. No. It was a huge help.”

    It wasn’t an empty promise.

It’s surprising that Sunwoo’s Sun or something is of such great help under Fimbulbert and that it has to do with the Elemental Wailing.

It was very valuable and precious information.

But when I heard the story it seemed that the Nagas were united and moving under the name of the Southern Heavenly King and that the Aragasas had joined hands with them and become completely corrupted.

“The clan has completely fallen into corruption by joining hands with them. What about Medium?”

I was worried about Medium who was trapped among the fallen clans.

“You mean the girl who was your apprentice Midiam Etar? Nothing is known. Well I don’t think she was killed. She’s Etar bloodline after all. But do we need to know information about her? We’re busy too. We’re investigating important matters that will affect the future of humanity and our clan and we don’t have the energy to take care of a child who is your personal friend.”

    Indim grumbled and answered.
