    #32. Black Magic Disaster 3

Everyone looks at Azadin but he suddenly starts crying.

“Sigh… Ugh. I feel so sorry.”

    “….”

    “What? Are you drunk?”

“Everyone! That means people are corrupt!”

The merchants and adventurers all looked at each other.

    ‘This kid is drunk.’

‘Who told this guy to get a drink?’

Everyone rolled their eyes to find someone to take responsibility. Meanwhile Azadin was giving a passionate speech.

“The three archangels swore to grant the power of white magic to those who uphold the three virtues and sealed themselves in the Inner Sea Peninsula! However as people turn away from virtue the Knights of Salvation are losing their power! With the Age of Jupiter approaching the forces of darkness will regain their power so how is it that this world is filled with people who only pursue pleasure and no one seeks to attain virtue?!”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Human! I just wanted to earn some money and have some slaves…”

“That’s right! Slavery! Isn’t slavery illegal in the Order of the Knights Templar and in the King’s Church? How can you speak such depraved words?! Don’t you know that your depravity is advancing the Age of Jupiter one step at a time?”

    “Oh over there.”

The other merchants were perplexed by Azadin’s loud voice talking about the faith of the Knights of Salvation.

The Age of Jupiter was a doomsday tale told among the Rescue Knights… a tale that market beggars wandering psychopaths and alcoholics loved to tell.

Of course it’s a story that even the fanatics of the Salvation Knights like but Azadin is telling it while drunk.

“The age of Jupiter is coming! Keep close to the three virtues! Keep away from pleasure and debauchery!”

“But you’re drinking too aren’t you as you say that?”

    “Well we fed it though.”

“It’s okay! There is no prohibition on alcohol among the three virtues!”

As Azadin spoke and tried to drink more wine the merchants stopped him.

    “Wow!”

“What kind of power is this?”

“You’re so tall! Your bones are also big!”

The merchants barely managed to stop Azadin.

“Go to sleep. You have a long way to go tomorrow. Go inside and rest!”

    “That’s right.”

“Oh I see! I can walk on my own two feet!”

Azadin pushed away the merchants who tried to support him and went up to the bedroom. When he returned to his room he clasped his hands together and controlled his breathing.

    “Phew.”

Before I knew it my face which had been raised had returned to its original state and my expression and eyes had also returned to normal. I had used a body control technique to deliberately control my heart rate and make the capillaries on my face turn red imitating a drunken drunk.

    “As expected everyone hates fanatics.”

“You didn’t hate me because I was acting up while drunk?”

Medium who was lying on the bed poked his head out and asked.

“Were you watching? Aren’t you sleeping?”

“It’s only natural since the inn is about to close.”

“Wouldn’t it be difficult to act as a messenger with such a prominent part on your face?”

Ismail also said a word to Azadin as if he couldn’t sleep.

“I don’t know if they are really the Herald Clan or if they just capture helpless civilians frame them and enslave them but they are truly disgusting. I want to wipe them all out.”

Medium smiled coldly and rolled over in bed as if he had heard that they were enslaving the messenger tribe.

“I guess I’ll have to check the truth.”

Azadin was also furious about what the merchants and the mill people had done so he deliberately played the role of a fanatic to ruin the mood but that wasn’t enough to appease his anger.

“Then if I confirm it will you kill them?”

    “In some cases.”

    Azadin said so.

“It is the mission of a messenger to set the Emperor’s laws straight. Then shall we sleep? For tomorrow?”

Azadin brushed his teeth lightly with tea leaves and salt and lay down on the bed.

‘Who is this daughter of the messenger clan they’re talking about? Is she the former messenger? I don’t know if there’s such a thing since I haven’t received any handover information. I’ll have to go and check it out myself.’

Azadin closed his eyes trying to calm his complicated mind.

    *********

The next morning the merchants and adventurers packed their bags and prepared for their journey suffering from hangovers. They all seemed accustomed to hangovers as they usually drank a lot.

Judging from the way they packed their bags without breaking anything while suffering from hangovers it was clear that they were mostly drunk on alcohol.

    “Then let’s go!”

They set off on their familiar path. The party left the Emperor’s Road and walked along the forest path. The forest path was also quite well-trodden showing traces of many people passing by. There was even a tea vendor nearby selling tea and snacks.

    Azadin asked the tea merchant.

    “Is business going well?”

“Well it’s okay. If you do business on the main road other unions will show their territoriality.”

“Are there no beasts or robbers?”

“Hahaha. I have some but I’m the one who flies.”

The tea merchant said so and made tea for the merchants. Azaddin walked quietly with them and gave instructions to Midiam and Ismail.

“Don’t use your bows those merchants are watching. Do you understand?”

When fighting the knights Midiam and Ismail were caught by the messenger clan just by shooting their bows. 13-year-old boys and girls from places other than Aragasa wouldn’t even be able to draw such strong bows.

This time he couldn’t let his identity be discovered so Azadin warned them in advance and followed them obediently as if he were an insignificant pilgrim himself.

The siblings Kaka and Chiko walked along cheerfully skillfully checking the path for traps and markings of wild beasts’ territories joking with the other Cell Sword members and telling Tarki various rumors.

Judging from their attitude they seemed to have no idea that they were of noble blood. Above all they backed down when they heard the story of a woman who had become a slave because she was of the blood of the messenger clan.

‘It may be a coincidence but I’ll give them some points. At least they’re more likeable than Tarki. They didn’t participate in exploiting slaves so I guess we should make sure they don’t die?’

Azadin gave that assessment and followed the merchant procession silently.

The forest was getting deeper and darker. The trees were dry and twisted in strange ways.

    “….”

Azadin clicked his tongue at what he saw with his eyesight.

    Black corruption is entangled.

It’s a trace of black magic.

“There’s a sawmill inside here. If you go there they’ll tell you about the Wyvern. We can also sell some of our goods there to lighten the load….”

The merchants asked the adventurers of the Cell Sword Guild who were guarding them for their intentions.

    Can I go?

To Azadin it looked like a dangerous and dark place seething with black magic but to the merchants and others it looked like an ordinary forest.

    “Something smells bad.”

Medium who had great talent as a wizard covered his nose and looked puzzled.

    “Really? I don’t know?”

Tarki looked calm so it seemed that this was something that ordinary people could not feel. Azadin sent a hand signal to Midiam and Ismail.

“Stay close to the Kerim goat.”

With that Azadin prepared his weapons. He took out the two swords he had taken from Kozel’s soldiers and put one on his waist and the other on his back. He also picked up four hunting arrows and hid them inside his trousers and cloak.

While they were doing that the merchants shouted.

“Ah we’ve arrived at the sawmill!”

“Hey! Karim! I brought you some drinks…”

But the one at the entrance to the sawmill let out a grumbling scream instead of human speech.

    “Krrrrrr!”

    “Grrrrr!”

Hounds with large claw marks on their backs and their entrails removed rush out from inside the village. The hounds already dead run out barking and running like madmen.

    “Damage!”

    “Oh my god!”

    “It’s undead!”

The adventurers of the Cell Sword Guild immediately formed a defensive line. They had all come to hunt and were armed with short spears so they formed a defensive line with those forming a strong defensive wall.

However the hunting dogs that were rushing in did not just run into the square. Despite being undead they still maintained the same cunning and experience they had when alive and circled around the square of the Cell Sword combination.

    “Eek!”

“Watch out Joe! If you show any weakness you’re finished!”

At that moment a hunting dog jumped in through a gap in the formation. The enemy’s attack had begun at the rear of the formation a vulnerable spot that could not be defended.

    “Ugh!”

Surprisingly it was Tarki who stopped it. He swung his longsword and blocked the hound’s attack. The hound retreated after avoiding Tarki’s longsword and when he realized that this was not the weak point of the phalanx he began to wander around again.

    “Damn it! He’s a weakling!”

Tarki stood at the rear diagonal area the weak point of the phalanx holding his longsword and swung his longsword in the air to block the approach of the hounds.

    “It’s pretty good.”

Azadin praised Tarki and surveyed the situation. Undead hounds circled the group of adventurers and merchants keeping them on guard. Meanwhile humanoid undead zombies were walking toward the village.

These were probably the residents of this sawmill village and they were coming out armed with axes knives clubs spears saws chisels and such.

    “There are too many numbers!”

The adventurers and merchants with spears could not move freely because the undead hounds were circling around the perimeter. In the meantime the enemies were rushing in so everyone could not help but be confused.

It is not easy to even move when the formation is spread out. However if you stay still you will eventually be surrounded by enemies.

    “Let’s shoot the bow!”

Those at the back of the phalanx take out their hunting bows and start shooting arrows…

As Azadin watched he was shocked. The arrows were not hitting properly. Those who had not trained professionally in archery were shooting arrows wasting precious arrows.

If you lack archery skills you should aim for the slow-moving zombies but in your haste you waste arrows by shooting the hunting dogs that threaten the formation. Unable to stand this any longer Azadin picked up a stone on the ground.

    “Get out of my way!”

Azadin said so and threw a stone.

    -Wedge!

The stone thrown by Azadin hit the hunting dog’s head.

    “Kekeng!”

The undead hound flailed and rolled around. Azadin’s slingshot was so powerful that it shattered its head.

    “uh?”

    “and?!”

    -Shh!

Another stone flies. This time it hits the hound squarely.

“Leave the hunting dogs to me and you stop the human zombies.”

    “Oh yes!”

    “Ugh!”

Others were not capable of hitting the active hunting dogs. So they followed Azadin’s advice and hit the slower human zombies which worked well. However they were weak and could not stop the zombies.

Zombies walk towards you with arrows attached to their bodies. It’s difficult to affect them at close range unless you have a strong bow that can destroy bones and muscles.
