    #319. Herald of Famine 3

Azadin leapt from the stranded transport ship on a sandbank.

“It’s my first time using Garura and it’s really good.”

The arrows that had been caught in Garura returned to Azadin’s bow. There were damages to the shafts here and there as they collided with other arrows but the arrowheads were not damaged at all.

Azadin struck the shaft with his dagger retrieving only the Azure Steel arrowhead and discarding the rest.

    -Thud thud…

But the moment you drop the arrow red dots fall to the ground.

Blood began to flow from Azadin’s nose eyes and fingernails.

    “hmm….”

Azadin smiled bitterly as he looked at his own body dripping with blood.

Rather he tried to reduce the burden of his body by reducing his magical power… but the magical power continued to run wild inside Azadin’s body. It’s good that he’s gotten stronger but it’s unstable.

Azadin sniffed and turned his head.

Zibek and Scott came to Azadin’s side. Scott was panting probably hyperventilating from fighting the Nagas using their corpses.

    “Ugh. Crunch. Knock knock knock.”

It was both comical and pitiful to see a race suffering from the limitations of an unbalanced race that was pushed to over-focus on high-performance features.

Scott probably didn’t want to be born this way.

You get so excited while using magic that you hyperventilate and suffer.

Meanwhile Jibek was calmly looking at the Celestial Fires.

“Young and beautiful… an ideal knight order just like something out of an old storybook. So idealistic that it’s almost repulsive.”

The Celestial Fire was so dazzling that it was questionable whether it was not a plated organization as it was visible to Jibek who had been cast out of the Order and become a fallen paladin.

No he also knew that they were gold-plated since he had heard the identities of the Celestials from Azadin.

Even though I know it I can’t help but be captivated by their beautiful appearance.

“What are we going to do now Captain? We helped without thinking but aren’t we now wanted?”

“We’ll have to resolve that through conversation from now on. Fortunately the Celestia Fires are somewhat communicative.”

    Azadin answered nonchalantly.

A cloud of Celestial Fire Knights gathered around the transport ship that had become stranded on the sandbank.

    “Sir Azadin!”

Izmila was delighted to see Azadin.

“Thanks to you I was able to save the transport ship! Thank you. This is a great honor! Sir Azadin you are truly the best hospitaler!”

“But Sir Izmila. He is a wanted man…”

“I told you to retrieve the scroll.”

The other knights of the Celestial Fire Order were in a difficult position.

Azadin’s achievements and the orders from his superiors were in conflict. In fact if these people were normal people this wouldn’t have been a concern. Azadin’s achievements and achievements were deserved and deserved to be praised.

However the command of the Wisdom Order given to them was also absolute. They approached Azadin with complicated expressions as if they did not know how to act in a conflicting situation.

“Sir Azadin put away your weapons.”

“First of all it is an order from your superiors to take you away.”

    “What if I refuse?”

“Then there’s nothing we can do.”

The Celestials all drew their weapons.

Despite Azadin’s merits in saving the transport ship he gives priority to the Wisdom Order’s orders without any hesitation.

This shows how well the Celestial Fire Knights are under the control of the Wisdom Order.

Only Izmila was embarrassed by their behavior.

“What are you doing brothers! Sir Azadin was just joking. How dare you take him seriously.”

“No Izmila. I’m sorry but this isn’t a joke.”

Azadin said so and smiled bitterly.

“Lord Karna! Do something about it! My brothers are being rude to Lord Azadin and they won’t listen to me!”

As Izmila cried out in supplication their leader Captain Karna stepped forward. Karna stopped the conflict between Azadin and the Celestials.

“Everyone stand back. Let’s guard this sandbar.”

It is within the range where the troops can be defeated but the encirclement cannot be broken. Perhaps the conversation with Azadin is something he does not want the Celestials to hear.

    Azadin asked Karna about that.

“Is it really necessary? They are all ready to throw away their lives if it is the order of the Wisdom Church. I doubt they will come and betray us now that they have found out the secret of the Celestials.”

    “….”

Karna was silent. From what Azadin said it was clear that he had discovered the secret of the Celestials.

The directive from the Wisdom Order to begin with was to obtain the scroll of the previous life from him so there was no doubt that Azadin had discovered the secrets of the Celestials.

“Sir Azadin. First of all I have seen your heroic deeds. I am deeply impressed. However I heard that you stole the scroll from the Wisdom Order and ran away. Is that true?”

“I’ve never heard of this before. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you right? Is this a question worth asking?”

    Azadin did not deny it.

“First of all Sir Azadin. I admire you. You could have avoided us but you came running to rescue the transport ship. If you hadn’t we wouldn’t have had to face each other like this. It was truly a selfless and admirable act.”

If Azadin had not tried to rescue the transport ship he might have just passed by. In other words Azadin rescued the transport ship even though he was prepared to be in danger.

“But I have a mission to fulfill Lord Azadin. Surrender quietly. I have no desire to turn a hero like you into an enemy. We have no reason to be enemies. My offer to you of the position of infantry captain still stands…”

“First of all I would like to thank you for your kindness Lord Karna. However I do not currently have the scroll. The Order of Courage has already taken it.”

“Hmm. Are you expecting me to believe that?”

“If you are impressed by me why don’t you believe me? There is no reason to lie. Why would I go somewhere else alone with that scroll? I am from the messenger clan and am looked down upon by everyone. If I were to speak the truth alone no one would listen. Wouldn’t they dare laugh at me for undermining the noble bloodline of the Northern Qi?

After hearing Azadin’s explanation Karna truly believed that Azadin did not have the scroll. However that would mean that the Order of Courage had obtained the scroll of the previous life…

“Why on earth would you do such a thing?! Why Sir Azadin? Are you one of those fools who deifies the very statues of angels? The angels are already dead. Their remains are nothing more than useful magical tools. We need a living force to fight against evil not the worship of dead angels!”

“Are you only thinking about the angel statues? And the children who are sacrificed in the ritual?”

    “That kid…..”

    Karna was speechless.

Karna and everyone else was only concerned with damaging the statue of the angel and did not care about the young baby entering the past life ritual.

“A newly born Celestial is a baby reincarnated in a different form…”

The child who was injected into the past life consciousness did not die but was reborn as a Celestial.

But the moment he said that Karna knew that his excuse was very poor.

Indeed Azadin came in and poked at that tight spot.

“Of course other Celestials might be that child. But reincarnation is a different story. The nobles of the Northern Qi clan take the life of a child and are reborn. Right?”

“No. I know because I am a reincarnated being. Azadin. My memories from my previous life are not so perfectly connected. I wish they were. I could learn and train again in a new body and shorten the process. I am… a reincarnated being but I am also that child. I am not sacrificing the child’s life!”

“No matter what you say the child did not consent to the ritual. The secret art of Celestial reincarnation is the secret art of the Angel Egg which is a sorcery that sacrifices human babies.”

“How can you get consent from a newborn baby? Half of the babies born naturally die before they reach adulthood anyway? Even if I were a child I would prefer to be a Celestial rather than be born as a human child who could die at any time! This is not witchcraft!”

In an era where public health care is weak babies have a survival rate of only half. In an era where the lives of babies are not considered as the lives of complete humans what if we use the lives of these babies to create sacred Celestials?

Some people may feel aversion to it but many others may not.

Azadin is just demanding too much perfection.

    Karna was saying so.

“If you think so shouldn’t you have made the facts public?”

“Do not laugh! The evil is so great yet the angels do not respond and the blood of the Yaegas gods is now spilled! What means must we employ and now you are trying to deprive us of even the bare minimum of means? Tell us all to die?”

    “Ah. Karna. Karna.”

Azadin shook his head. Thanks to the use of the Flower-Bird-Pung-Wol Garu the flowing blood began to drip again.

“You believe in the bloodline of the angels but you do not believe in their promises and teachings. On that note you believe in the will of the Northern Emperor. That is a very biased belief. Is the Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire really that trustworthy?”

“He alone can save this world from darkness. Not because he is my kin but who else could have gathered the strength to fight against darkness like this?”

“Even if many innocent people are sacrificed in the process I guess it is all considered a necessary sacrifice.”

    “Yes! That’s right.”

“Okay then. The Northern Emperor Cohen Lionaire is a hero. So he should be able to overcome difficulties like assassinating his master Sir Planck or using magic to turn nobles into Celestials by grinding angel statues.”

    “….”

“It’s not like it didn’t happen it’s just an announcement of something that happened. Shouldn’t a hero overcome that level of difficulty? Not turning it into a murderous act.”

“Yes. We must overcome it. In a heroic way!”

Karna drew his sword giving up trying to persuade Azadin any longer.

    Then Izmila approached.

“Lord Karna?! What are you thinking?!”

“Sir Izmilla. I told you to step aside!”

Karna knew that the words coming out of Azadin’s mouth would not be good for the Celestials so they all tried to back off. However Izmila did not back down.

“Lord Karna. It is dangerous for you to be alone. And I want to know what is happening.”

    “….”

Instead of answering Karna spread his wings and raised his sword.
