    #310. Miracle Leader 3

‘I didn’t know Jibek was that skilled. And that orc. What a trap this is.’

There was a story told by the Sellsword Guild a guild of mercenaries and adventurers.

The legendary swordsman Berdam who killed the Basilisk is said to have died from a wound he sustained when he was hit by a blinding stone thrown by a goblin.

No matter how strong or talented a person may be as long as their body is made of skin they are likely to die from even the slightest wound or injury. Carelessness and bad luck can lead even the strongest person to ruin.

In that sense Jecht was too careless. Jebeck and Scott were dangerous people who should never be let down their guard so did he let his guard down too much without Azadin?

    -Whoooosh!

The tentacles of the nether creatures created by Jecht are burning.

The Angels of Decay were drawing ever closer to Jecht burning the Nether beings with their magic.

But then suddenly a voice was heard from above Zect’s head.

    “Ject! Are you okay?!”

To my surprise Azadin was coming down the ladder.

“…Lord Azadin. Your orc warlock has really screwed me over. How dare he break the guardian runes here.”

“Are you talking about the flame of the dead?”

It seemed that Scott had deliberately summoned the Angel of Corruption to subdue Jecht and escaped with Jebeck.

“Yes. That orc is truly amazing. I have never seen anyone with better necromancy than me. In addition Jibek’s skills have also improved compared to before. I don’t know if it is because he met a good teacher or if his timid spirit has been liberated and he is now able to display his original skills.”

    Zect smiled bitterly.

If the spirit of Zibek was suppressed it was because of the oppressive environment of Zibek’s teachers and the King’s Church. In other words Zibek’s current statement is like spitting while lying down. Of course most people do not think that this oppression is shameful at all.

They lack the sensitivity to understand that their existence is oppressive to others.

On the other hand Zect has such sensitivity but he lives by getting his hands dirty with his own will. In order to satisfy his ambition and twisted sense of duty he tried to commit any act but when he came to his senses he fell into the trap of those who looked down on him as being a few levels below him and faced a crisis.

“Well that’s Scott’s specialty and you’ve learned a lot of other magic too. You don’t need to feel bad about being outclassed by a professional magician in your area of expertise…”

    “….”

I didn’t expect such comfort from Azadin but Azadin defended Jecht’s necromancy skills in this situation.

“I watched the ritual of making angel eggs from above. Now that I know the inside story I have nothing more to see. I will leave.”

“Are you in your right mind? Can’t you see that right in front of you?”

    Jecht questioned Azadin.

Even for Jecht who has been through a lot it is difficult to handle three angels of corruption. No matter how much he needs to pretend to be calm there is something strange about Azadin’s calm right now.

Jecht also wanted to show himself as relaxed as possible but Azadin’s current attitude was very different from Jecht’s.

How can you be this calm if you’re not crazy?

Why is Azadin so calm when he is facing not one but three of the same Angels of Corruption that Jecht had?

Then Azadin came before the angels of corruption.

The rotten and decayed remains of the angels approached Azadin carrying swords and chains made of bone.

And the dead beings the undead bound by the angels of corruption are also shot out towards Azadin.

    -Whoosh!

The chains attached to the sword made from the bones of the Angel of Corruption moved like tentacles of a living creature and flew towards Azadin’s head.

As Azadin raised his ceramite longsword and caught the chain the chain wrapped around Azadin’s sword.

And then an invisible force exploded between Azadin and the Angel of Corruption.

    -Phew!

A gust of wind blew through the sewer and four tornadoes formed briefly around Azadin before disappearing.

The tornado that appeared and disappeared in the confined space was so powerful that the ghosts flying towards Azadin melted away like a layer of fog being torn apart by a strong wind and even the Angels of Decay looked at Azadin in surprise.

    “Ah.”

    “uh.”

    And then something strange happened.

‘What the heck? What the hell is going on?’

Jecht was also shocked by what was happening before his eyes.

The angels of corruption knelt before Azadin.

And they made a sound as if they were squeezing their rotten torn bodies with great effort.

    “Ahhh… Leader!”

    “Rest in peace!”

The angels of corruption are reaching out to Azadin yearning for peace.

“You have come down to this earth in flesh to worship your virtues and protect humanity and your devotion is worthy of praise. Now I will break the bonds that surround you so end your fierce devotion and simply rest in peace!”

Azadin approached the Angels of Corruption and raised his ceramite longsword. In an instant a dazzling light burst from the ceramite longsword.

Originally the ceramite longsword was a weapon that burned on its own but this was not just a simple flame. It was a brilliant light like the sun that washes away the darkness of evil.

The angels of corruption still do not resist Azadin.

They just wait for Azadin’s blade as if waiting for the peace that will end their long suffering and wandering.

    “Leader.”

    “May virtue light your path.”

    “May virtue light your path!”

Azadin followed the words of the Angels of Corruption and swung his sword.

In a flash of blinding light the angels of corruption were decapitated and their physical bonds were removed.

These terrible monsters which even troubled Jecht fell to the ground without any resistance having their heads and torsos severed by Azadin’s sword.

These undead won’t stop at just separating the head and torso…

Amazingly the bodies of the angels of corruption burned themselves and disappeared into ash.

    *********

    “Hoo hoo hoo hoo.”

Laughter began to erupt from inside the subway.

A madman’s burst of laughter was flowing out of Zect’s mouth.

    “Ahahahahahahahaha!”

Zect couldn’t hold it in anymore and laughed and laughed.

The implications of what happened before my eyes were clear.

    Azadin was chosen by angels!

    Chosen leader!

There was a legend secretly passed down in the Rescue Knights.

A prophecy that a great leader will one day emerge from among them who will command all three orders of the Knights of Mercy Courage and Wisdom as well as the three virtues.

It is not known when or by whom such prophecies began but they were not exactly heretical teachings and simply stimulated people’s hopes so they were passed down by word of mouth.

But the protagonist of that prophecy is here.

And of all things it had to be Aragasa.

A person who is considered a soulless impious untouchable and guilty of murdering a divine king!

‘The angels are wicked. They chose the lowest of the Hybris people as their leader!’

Zect couldn’t help but laugh at the angels’ decision to choose Azadin.

“Don’t be so loud Lord Jecht. The angels of corruption have put me to rest but there may be other monsters.”

“Oh I’m sorry. This is so ridiculous I can’t help but laugh. Sir Azadin. You are the chosen one of the angels. Since when? Sir Azadin.”

“Rather than saying I was chosen in a grand way… well it’s a bit much. Oh let’s keep this a secret. It’s not that good.”

    Azadin shrugged.

    “Why?”

Zect asked out of pure curiosity.

    Azadin is a miracle worker.

He is the leader chosen by angels.

One chosen by angels to lead the Rescue Knights on the right path.

If this fact is revealed of course the established religious groups will object but if they demonstrate such miraculous powers they will be able to gather followers comparable to those of Celestial Fire.

That worship of power and strength.

Even if he can be indifferent to the benefits… he needs strength to accomplish his mission. So why doesn’t Azadin reveal that he is a miracle worker?

“You can’t make the Knights Templar into a church like the King’s Church.”

    “yes?”

“When the archangels and angels of the Trinity descended people listened to the teachings of virtue with their ears but they turned away from the angels with their eyes. As they turned away from virtue they worshipped only the angels. Since the souls of those who wish to become slaves of gods and angels cannot reach virtue if I reveal myself here as the chosen one of the angels and perform miracles people will only find another object of worship and will turn even further away from virtue.”

“Ah. I see. Hmm. Then Sir Azadin you are no match for me.”

Jecht is a member of the King’s Church. The King’s Church demands that all human sub-races dedicate themselves to the Yaegas’ plan for the great gods.

“Humans need guidance. That is the reality. Just as the three archangels who came with the promise of virtue eventually became objects of worship it is human nature to entrust oneself to a superior and greater being. To ignore their nature and impose your ideals on them? Azadin. You will be ruined.”

“It doesn’t matter. You don’t like me that much anyway. Just clap your hands and rejoice when I’m destroyed. Oh no. Then we should run away. The pursuers will come after us. You should also escape if you have a separate escape route! I’ll see you at Vandyke’s!”

“Are you talking about Van Dyke Company?”

“You promised right? You’ll share the information you found out above. I’ll keep my promise.”

Azadin left those words and began to walk away.

Zect smiled bitterly as he looked at Azadin.

As the King’s Church’s Inquisitor Azadin was now someone he had to exterminate.

The King’s Church officially cooperated with the Knights Templar but behind the scenes they wanted the Knights Templar and the angel faith to fall so that the King’s Church could monopolize all spirituality on the continent of Hybris.

The King’s Church and the Knights Templar’s faith could not tolerate each other in the first place. However the alliance was maintained because most of the Knights Templar worshipped angels themselves rather than virtue and were not much different from the believers of the King’s Church.

But now the leader chosen by the miracle workers the angels has appeared.

“The angels are so mean choosing the Emperor’s messenger and especially the one who betrayed his own clan. Ah is that why? If I didn’t choose the lowest of the low I would end up following him rather than virtue.”

Azadin’s existence would not be tolerated by the current Salvage Knights. The Salvage Knights and Azadin would fight each other so there was no need for Jecht to attack Azadin and sort out the situation now.

    “…then!”

The jet also ran out of the underground sewer.

Although Azadin had defeated the Angel of Corruption this place was still teeming with monsters in addition to the Angel of Corruption and the dead under its command. If he didn’t escape quickly there was a high possibility that Jecht who had exhausted his magic power would commit the same mistake as Berdam who had been killed by a goblin stone.

    *********

    “oh my god.”

As Zect left another witness collapsed in his place.

It was the assassin and savior of the Order of Mercy Sir Heine.

She had descended the ladder first to avoid the Wisdom Cult’s pursuers the Wear Boars in pursuit of Azadin and then she had a clear view of what Azadin was doing.

The scene where the angels of corruption trust their bodies to Azadin and entrust them to rest!

And I also heard Zect and Azadin talking.
