    #300. Avengers of Vengeance 3

    “This… little kid.”

I’m angry but I’m scared of hippogriffs.

And Azadin’s name was also scary.

“If you’re talking about Sir Azadin then you’re from the herald clan right? Of the Chadra Plateau….”

“There were a lot of guys who tried to get away without paying taxes by selling that name. Isn’t this guy a fake too?”

“But there’s no braggart riding a hippogriff. Honestly if you wanted to fly without paying the toll you could just fly but it seems like you’re waiting here anyway…”

“No I get it so please shut up. It’s loud and annoying.”

The road patrolmen were in tears.

But Scott kept nagging and demanding of them which only served to irritate them.

“Oh but I need some drinking water. Do you happen to have some fresh water? If possible could you fill my water bottle too? As you know it’s much more efficient for someone who knows the terrain and the layout of the objects here to do this. Right? You wouldn’t say you don’t know would you? Or is that right? It’s your time that’s being wasted so you should go get some water yourself? Oh really. The value of your time is relative. Unlike you I have a high level of intelligence so I can think more deeply and reason at a higher level in the same amount of time. Think about efficiency as an intelligent being that transcends species. Oh it’s hard for you to imagine with your intelligence right? Was the word efficiency too difficult?”

    “Hey you…..”

It was at this point that the collectors unable to bear it any longer lowered the head of the spear to Scott’s chest level.

“Excuse me but the orcs over there are part of our party. Did something go wrong?”

Azadin and Zibek finally reached the road.

Azadin’s face was brightly revealed and Zibek who was wanted wore a helmet with a face-covering pulled down low and stood aside to avoid the soldiers’ gaze.

    “ah.”

    “Who is who?”

“Purple eyes? You really are Sir Azadin.”

The guards put away their spears in confusion.

“Ah Captain. You’re just in time. Phew. Just look at those muscles on your arms from holding the hippogriff reins.”

“…How can I live when I’m worried that my muscles will grow while I breathe?”

“That’s already a problem. When you breathe the diaphragm muscle squeezes your lungs and I know of an orc who died from breathing difficulties because his diaphragm was so thick.”

It may sound like a joke but it was actually one of the common signs of death for orcs who had too much muscle mass. It was a natural trait for orcs to have their internal organs gain muscle mass which would lead to a decline in cardiopulmonary function and a shortened lifespan.

Azadin looked at the guards who greeted him with bright eyes and handed them his money. He had emptied his pocket money on his way back from the inn so the smallest coin he could take out of his wallet was a silver coin.

“After paying the toll let’s buy this guy a drink each as an apology for bothering you all.”

    “No not at all.”

    “It’s okay. Hahaha.”

“This person really knows the situation well. Haha.”

The soldiers refused verbally but they quickly took the silver coins Azadin gave them.

However… Azadin noticed a stake driven into the road next to them with wanted posters attached to the stake.

Jibek’s wanted poster was posted at the very top.

“Then can I pass? I think we should hurry up. If you guys are close to Scott and want to say goodbye I won’t stop you.”

Azadin asked the soldiers just in case and the soldiers welcomed him.

“You want me to get rid of those orcs and hippogriffs?”

    “Is there any possibility?”

They were all ready to find some pollen and sprinkle it on Scott once he left because of how much Scott had tormented them.

Azadin passed through the intersection with the disguised Zibek without being checked by the guards.

    But then it happened.

“Wait a minute. Even so the person wearing the helmet over there needs to show his face.”

Unlike the soldiers it was someone who appeared to be an officer who stopped Azadin and his group.

The soldiers clicked their tongues but Zibek lifted the visor of his helmet without saying a word. His face was covered with thick pockmarked skin and his cheekbones were bandaged making him look extremely ugly but his gray eyes were calm and settled.

I had already put on my makeup when I got here.

The makeup was done using Bree’s skin but the appearance was so realistic that I couldn’t help but fall for it.

“Oh I’m sorry. Oh my. It hasn’t been long since our platoon leader took office.”

“I was cut off when I tried to join the Celestial Fire Knights.”

“No it doesn’t matter. He did his job.”

    Azadin suddenly asked them.

“So have you seen any of the people from the King’s Church?”

“People from the King’s Church? Hmm. Oh there’s a female knight nearby who’s bringing a group of people to buy food.”

“The prices are rising right now so the farmers are reluctant to sell so it seems like they are being a bit forceful… But I don’t think they will commit robbery for the sake of the King’s Church’s reputation.”

    The soldiers’ speech was muffled.

Originally food purchases were to be made at the trading post in St. Mallory.

But then since the Rescue Knights would have to pay the tariffs they would bring the upper class themselves and deal directly with the farmers.

Although this is tax evasion it has been tacitly tolerated by other top executives up to now.

When caravans came inland they not only used money to buy food but also brought various goods that the villagers needed which was beneficial to the villagers.

But the King’s Church will not sell luxury goods or crafts to the townspeople.

From the perspective of the Rescue Knights it was time to say something sharp to the King’s Church which was running wild within their territory.

“You may run into her on your way but… if possible it would be best not to deal with her. I heard she is the disciple of the female Paladin Inquisitor.”

    “Disciple of the Inquisitor?”

Jibek was startled by those words.

    “Does anyone have a clue?”

“It’s not just one person. There are many. But who among them is it…?”

“Hmm. I’d like to avoid meeting you but I don’t know. But there are a lot of villages from now on.”

As you approach St. Mallory looking down from the hill you can see vast expanses of farmland and the farms that farm that land clustered together to form a town.

‘If I were alone I would have just flown on the Hippogriff but if I go on foot I’ll probably end up meeting it. It’s inconvenient to fly on the Hippogriff.’

Azadin slightly regretted his choice to bring the hippogriff with him.

If I had known I’d be joining up with the Zibek party I would have brought you here by word of mouth.

But the hippogriff shrugs when he meets Azadin’s eyes.

He was proud of himself for carrying Scott here on Azadin’s orders.

‘…what you’re doing is cute. Now I can see why Selim likes hippogriffs so much.’

Azadin felt relieved at the sight of the hippogriff’s cleverness.

    *********

Azadin set off to a warm welcome from the gatekeepers.

They regarded Azadin as their savior simply by getting Scott out of their way.

“How much did you have to torture me to get such a good reaction?”

“I shared some of my outstanding insight with those who are unable to control themselves due to their low intelligence. And just like that they all shed tears of joy. It’s fortunate that even though they are stupid they know how to distinguish between wheat and chaff.”

    “….”

Azadin was speechless as he listened to Scott’s interpretation of the situation.

    *********

After that Azadin took Scott and Zibek on board the hippogriff and continued traveling by land.

As they approached St. Mallory the place began to become bustling with people coming and going and many people noticed Azadin and his party leading a hippogriff.

“Ah are you the famous Sir Azadin?”

    “indeed. ”

As the road was busy there were many checkpoints but when Azadin showed them his pass they all nodded and let him pass.

The wanted man Lord Zibek was wearing a disguise made from the skin of Bree and most of them did not even take off their helmets.

“Becoming too famous is also a problem.”

Azadin felt uncomfortable with the illusion that the whole world recognized him.

Basically there is nothing good about being the Emperor’s messenger and being famous as the Emperor’s secret agent. People who like this kind of fame would do anything to become famous but Azadin was the type that hated fame.

At that time Azadin encountered a one-legged gate.

From now on it was St. Mallory’s territory. St. Mallory’s “Being too famous is a problem.”

Azadin felt uncomfortable with the illusion that the whole world recognized him. It was not the city but from here on out it was under the jurisdiction of St. Mallory.

But… on that bridge a knight of the King’s Church was holding a flag and glaring.

A female knight clad in full plate armor with disheveled hair holding a helmet and a flag in her hand blocks the road.

    “Who is it?”

When Azadin looked puzzled Jibek said

    “…It’s Lord Maya.”

    “Sir Maya?”

“Have you forgotten? The illegitimate son of Lord Gazrek who was Bishop Salasma’s chief secretary.”

    “Um. Ah. That.”

    Azadin recalled the memory.

Sir Gazrek is the one who clashed with Azadin after killing witnesses to the incident in an attempt to destroy evidence after injuring civilians in an apparently unlucky arrow misfire.

Because of this Azadin was branded as a murderer of the paladins and Lord Maya pursued Azadin to avenge her father…

“You haven’t given up yet? You came all the way from Salasma to here? Why don’t you just turn back?”

“Be careful. She seems to be out of her mind. Besides she will recognize you and me.”

    “…..”

The problem was that she was blocking the way and the hippogriff that Azadin was leading was too distracting to turn back now.

Indeed Maya discovered Azadin and his group.

“You who are dragging the hippogriff over there! We are currently looking for the wanted criminal! Please cooperate.”

“By what authority does the King’s Church search this place?”

She flinched when Azadin asked her that question.

    “you are….”

She tilted her head when she heard Azadin’s voice.

Then he lifted his finger and covered Azadin’s eyes from his sight.

She was shocked when she saw Azadin’s lower jaw and chin neckline.

“Is that you!? Are you Azadin!?”

“Yes. I am Azadin the Emperor’s messenger and a knight-errant of the Knights Templar.”

    “this….”

She tried to swing her weapon but Azadin stopped her.

“Wait a minute. Do you understand what it means to swing a weapon at me? The Rescue Knights have accepted me as one of their members. Could it be that a Rescue Knight…?”

    “You are my father’s enemy!”

“And your father committed the crime of murdering a civilian. And in the first place wasn’t it not even a legitimate father-daughter relationship?”

“Shut up! Don’t frame my father! I’m more angry that you and the traitor Zibek are tarnishing his honor with such dirty talk than that he was murdered!”

In the case of Lord Maya who was screaming in anger the calm appearance that she had previously shown was gone and only madness and stubbornness remained.

Originally she had only accepted the fact that her father had committed the crime of murdering civilians after hearing from Lord Zibek.

However after Lord Xibek was expelled from the King’s Church Knights she came to believe that Xibek was actually in league with Azadin and that his testimony was a deception to deceive her out of her vengeance against Azadin.

That is why she once again embarked on the path of revenge. This time she targeted not only Azadin but also Xibek! That is why she came all the way from Salasma to St. Mallory.

The problem is that useless rumors are spreading widely.
