Night of the Soulless Heathens – 296

#296. Kingslayer Jibek 2
“no?”
Azadin was momentarily taken aback when he saw this familiar weapon suddenly flying towards him.
Why is this here?
Of course Azadin used the magic of finding weapons.
But it was just a minor prank that he himself had not expected at all.
‘No I was looking for the Wendigo dagger so why is this flying here?’
However to those who did not know the circumstances it seemed as if someone had just thrown an axe at Azadin in order to kill him.
“Who are you?!”
Izmila who was sitting next to Azadin stood up in anger.
Not only her but all the other Celestials simultaneously prepared their weapons in preparation for the enemy attack.
At that moment it became noisy outside.
“Chief! That god-killer….”
The servant jumped in shouting and was startled.
“Kingslayer?”
Azadin smiled bitterly when he heard that.
“No that’s not what I mean…”
The servant who brought up the subject looked embarrassed.
Azadin was from the Herald Clan and the term “Kingslayer” was a derogatory term for the Herald Clan.
“I’m talking about wanted person Jibek.”
“zebec?”
“Yes. The fallen knight who murdered the prince of Bthuma and escaped! I never intended to dishonor Lord Azadin.”
“……”
Azadin had a complicated feeling not knowing what expression to make.

Having driven back Bree’s forces the Celestial Fire Knights sent scouts north to see how far Bree had retreated.

But this time the person who caused them a commotion appeared here to the southeast of them.
“This is the Kingslayer Jibek! Be careful. He is a very dangerous person.”
“Dangerous person?”
“Don’t you know? He is the author who killed Prince Darhan Zadek of Btuma and ran away! He is a fallen knight who betrayed his lord. He must have received special power from the god of death so he could kill Prince Darhan Zadek the king of Yaegas.”
“….”
Azadin knew Zibek’s character well.
There is no way that he an old-fashioned man who treated even the most scum of human beings as his lord would kill another Zadek and run away.
But how can we convince people here of that fact? Most of the Celestial Fires are just kids. The only adults are the captains Karna and Izmila?
It will not be easy to persuade or convince them.
“Firewinter!”
Azadin summoned his hippogriff and climbed onto it.
“I’ll fly over and block their escape route. Then we can talk.”
“Are you talking about a story?”
Karna wondered.
“Yes. I am quite familiar with Sir Jibek.”
“yes?”
“You know him the assassin of the new king?”
The expressions on the faces of the Celestial Fire Knights became strange.
Azadin a member of the Herald Clan knows the fallen knight Xibek. Is this a relationship between two God-Kingslayers? Even those who try not to insult Azadin cannot help but think of the fact that the two are classified as the same God-Kingslayer.
Azadin also knew that and he valued them even for not saying anything about it.
‘I thought they were just kids but they all have patience. They seem like they’re not bad guys at heart.’
Azadin flew into the sky riding his hippogriff.

As soon as we gained altitude we saw people moving in the forest far to the south.
“where…”
Azadin tried to send Arael’s voice.
There were still lingering traces of magical power that disturbed Arael’s voice. However it was not as unusable as before perhaps because the Bree magicians had retreated north in defeat.
Azadin spotted a group of people fleeing south in a blurry shared vision.
“where….”
Azadin flew ahead of the fleeing group and attempted to land at low altitude. The forest was so thick that there was no place to land but Firewinter was very clever and broke branches with his front and hind legs.
There was a loud noise as it landed breaking through the thicket of trees. It was fortunate that it had rained last night but if the trees had been dry it would have made a sound like thunder and lightning.
however….
Just as Azadin was lowering his altitude and landing something flew in from ahead.
A spear made of bone flew in carrying the spirits and attacked Azadin.
Azadin hurled Grimslown’s club from the saddle and intercepted the flying skull spear.
There was a loud explosion in the air and the skull was shattered into pieces.
“Huh? That damn club?!”

The caster of Skull Spear was startled to see Azadin easily block his attack.
“Are you the captain?!”
“Scott…..”
Azadin knew that the spellcaster who had cast the Skull Spear on him was Scott McGreen an orc necromancer who had once acted alongside him.
Scott was riding a necromancy device he had made using Bree’s corpse… and he was riding on top of a headless centaur made up of Bree’s four legs.
It was a bizarre appearance that aroused an unbearable disgust in Azadin despite the fact that he had no particular ill feelings toward necromancy and could even learn and cast necromancy through Arael.
‘How come this guy is so good at making such bizarre and hideous things? It’s amazing how he can do this without any ill feelings. Is this Orc sense?’
Azadin waved his hand.
“It’s Scott. Why?”
Why are you here? Before he could ask that question a knight in rusted and tattered armor appeared behind Scott.
It was Jibek.
“Sir Jibek.”
“Azadin… Sir. I heard the rumor. You became a member of the Rescue Knights…”
Jibek smiled bitterly. He looked like he was in shambles having not eaten or slept properly for several days.
“Are you okay? Hey Scott. Why did you leave Lord Zibek like that? You’re relatively fine.”
Scott who has a lot of muscle mass and therefore eats a lot is relatively healthy but Zibek is extremely haggard. When Azadin pointed that out Scott shrugged.
“Because I said I wouldn’t eat the stolen food.”
Even as he spoke Scott was chewing something in his mouth.
“Let’s avoid it for now.”
“Riding a hippogriff?”
“No. If you carry people and fly into the sky you’ll be detected. You have to avoid the eyes of the rescue knights.”
Azadin said so and instructed Scott to set a trap behind him.
“I already installed it.”
Indeed Scott had already used his necromancy to place a number of obstacles behind him.
The Celestial Fire Knights all use holy white magic and the ceramite longswords they carry are as deadly to the undead.
Nonetheless Scott’s necromancy seemed to be working well at stopping the Celestial Fire Knights in the right places.
“Okay. Then….”
Azadin supported the emaciated Zibek and led him south.
*********
After walking south for a while we soon discovered an empty ranch.
Azadin got down and looked toward the barn and there were traces of people leading their livestock. The fields were filled with spring squash plants waiting to be harvested and the other crops showed signs of having been cared for for some time so it seemed that the people who had been here had left very recently.
And here and there are traces of horse hooves and campsites.
“This is where the Celestial Fire was stationed.”
That’s what Zibek said.
“Then I guess we can rest here for a while. First change your socks.”
I don’t know about anything else but the socks inside the boots need to be changed on time. Azadin took off Zibek’s boots. The clothes and socks inside the armor were soaked in blood and the condition was terrible.
Azadin took water from the cistern and washed Zebek’s feet.
“You don’t have to do this. I’ll take care of it.”
“Stop being so stubborn. The situation is so dire.”
Azadin gave the stubborn Zibek a rest and gave him some food.
“Eat slowly. It’s not stolen so you can eat it right?”
“It’s embarrassing.”
Zibek felt ashamed by Azadin’s words. Scott’s refusal to eat the food he had stolen was partly a matter of discipline but more so out of despair.
Jibek felt embarrassed because the fact seemed to have been revealed right away.
Meanwhile Scott was lying down comfortably snoring.
“What the hell happened? Why did you join Scott?”
“A different Zadek has been assassinated.”
“To whom?”
“He is presumed to be a servant of the Northern Qi.”
“If it’s a guess?”
Zibek told what happened.
*********
Prince Darhan Zadek united the remnants of Bthuma’s forces and gathered troops supplies and manpower to emerge as the most powerful force.
Other princes also gave up their competition with him and cooperated with him and Jibek joined the retinue of such a different Zadek and took part in the battle to recover Btuma.
But then an envoy from the Northern Qi Cohen came with the king’s church.
The king’s church brought a meager subsidy and supplies and the Northern Qi envoy asked Darhan Zadek to marry his daughter.
Marry my daughter and give the throne of Bthuma to the child born to you.
Zadek who did not hide his ambition openly politely declined the offer saying that he was not in a position to start a family at the moment.
But that night an assassin broke into Darhan Zadek’s residence and murdered him.
Jibek who was on night watch that day tried to catch the assassin but the assassin matched Jibek’s amazing swordsmanship with more than ten of his own and easily shook him off and escaped.
And in the King’s Church they accused Zibek of being the murderer of Zidak because Zibek’s sword was stained with Zidak’s blood.
Having lost his leader Bthuma passed the throne to Chrysala the four-year-old daughter of Darhan Zadek for reasons of legitimacy and appointed Adratha the son of the Northern Emperor as Chrysala’s guardian and regent.
In the process all of Jibek’s defenses were ignored his reputation was ruined and only the false accusation of murdering the new king remained.
The King’s Church and the Northern Qi had originally approached Btuma to get their hands on him.
Although they were unable to catch the assassin and get him to reveal his identity it was clear from the circumstances that the assassin was also someone with influence from the Northern Qi.
“So I ran away and came across that orc. That orc… was chasing Grimslown’s club.”
“Oh. So.”
Azadin took out Grimslown’s club and the blue executioner that had returned to his hands and showed them to him.
“I see you were on your way back to find your owner.”
Grimslown’s club had the ability to return to its owner on its own. Perhaps when Azadin lost these weapons in Btuma Grimslown tried to return to Azadin after securing the Qing executioner. However could it be that Azadin’s movement was faster than Grimslown’s club’s speed and he couldn’t keep up?
‘I was looking for the Wendigo’s dagger but why is this one… Well it’s good that it’s back. I was already feeling that the ceramite longsword was a bit lacking.’
Azadin was grateful that Grimslow’s club and the Blue Executioner had returned to him but he suddenly became curious about Zibek.
“Then how did it get involved with Celestial Fire?”
Then Zibek answered like this.
“Celestial Fire is… the enemy.”
“huh?”
Azadin was taken aback by the sudden declaration of hostilities.
