Night of the Soulless Heathens – 292

#292. Celestial Fire 6
Of course Azadin wasn’t hit by that boulder.
Azadin easily avoided the rock by ducking down.
Then the person who threw the rock appeared.
“Growling.”
It was a giant with antlers growing from its head.
They were a race of giants called hill giants and they had unusual vertical pupils in their eyes deer antlers on their heads and hooves on their legs.
That is it was a Bree giant.
“You bastard. You’re back!”
A young woman’s voice was heard from the Bree Giant.
To be exact it was from the club that the Bree giant was holding.
This Bree giant was swinging a club at a tree he had uprooted and the naked body of a young woman was fused into the tree.
It was the dryad shaman that Azadin had met in the forest a little while ago.
“…Why are you doing that when I didn’t see you for a moment?”
“You damaged my incarnation with your arrows! That’s why I’m in this state!”
“okay?”
At that moment Azadin swung his dagger.
The Bree giant was so surprised that he reflexively raised his club to block.
But the club was a tree fused with a dryad and the dagger that Azadin threw was fused with that tree and stuck right into the dryad’s naked body that was protruding.
“Huh?!”
“I’m telling you this because you’re a human being but it’s not a smart thing to merge with a giant’s club. How stupid do you have to be to do something like that?”
“This kid!”
As the dryad roared in anger the Breeds began to surround Azadin from all sides.
But not everyone jumps in recklessly.
It simply forms a siege net at a distance that Azadin’s attacks cannot reach.
“Huh. Okay. Then….”

Azadin prepared to enter the fray holding the ceramite longsword Aurelia Dawn.
But then it happened.
“charge!”
Aramis and his knights began to charge towards Bridle crossing the bridge over the town.
“no!?”
The Breeds who had gathered to surround Azadin ended up getting hit from behind.
‘Oh you’re charging with the knights? That was some pretty good command this time. The timing is good too.’
Azadin highly regarded Aramis’s judgment in boldly rushing in to save himself.
however…
“Are you alright Sir Azadin!? How reckless to charge into the middle of enemy lines!”
“….”
For a moment Azadin almost got angry.
‘That was a much more sensible charge than what you did earlier! Who are you talking to?’
“Don’t worry though! I’m here to save you!”
When Azadin had been surrounded by Bree soldiers earlier he had been in no danger at all. Yet Aramis had come to Azadin’s rescue as if he were in danger.
For those who did not know Azadin’s power it would not have been strange to think that Aramis was Azadin’s savior.
As for Azadin he had been unfairly indebted to his life and even if he cried out that it was nothing there was no one around him who would listen.
‘Why are you so bothered by this? Why don’t you just say thank you for helping me?’
Azadin also had a hard time understanding why he felt such a sense of opposition.
Regardless of Azadin’s feelings Aramis cut down the Bree soldiers and approached Azadin.
“You seem to have been shocked by the fall from your horse. Are you hurt anywhere?”
“It’s okay. Thank you for your help Sir Aramis.”
“No way. Aren’t we brothers from the same Rescue Knights?!”
“…..”
Before Azadin could see any more foul sight he loaded an arrow on his bow and pierced the Bree giant’s eyeball.
With a single blow the Bree giant was thrown backwards with a dull thud.
“Huh?”
“….”
The other knights looked embarrassed.
Slaying a giant is one of the events that always appear in knightly tales so he was obsessed with the desire to gain fame by slaying the Bree giant.
Of course the other knights were not confident that they could defeat the giant so they decided to leave the honor to Ser Aramis of the Celestial Fire Knights.
But unexpectedly Azadin defeated the giant.
‘No this kid has the best part….’
‘Because it’s a bow.’
‘Isn’t it a bit cowardly to defeat a giant with a bow?’
In tales of chivalry defeating a giant is considered a great feat because it requires incredible swordsmanship and tactics to defeat a giant in close combat.
Of course that’s also because they don’t know much about bows.

No matter how many times you shoot an arrow if you don’t secure penetration power the arrow won’t be able to reach the giant’s brain even if it hits its eyeball.
The eyeballs are harder and tougher than you might think so even if you accurately hit the giant’s eyeball with an arrow you won’t lose your eyesight right away. Even if an archer other than Azadin were lucky enough to hit the giant’s eyeball there’s no way he could defeat the giant with one blow.
However for the knights who were already secretly competing for merit Azadin’s actions were impudent and unpleasant.
“Great archery skills!”
Aramis the person involved gave Azadin a thumbs up for his archery skills.
“Now don’t worry about useless things.”
Azadin approached the tree the giant had dropped and secured the dryad fused within it. Then Breedle suddenly went berserk and charged at him.
It wasn’t the Breeds who had been hesitating and vacillating about whether to run away or not until a moment ago. They were like a swarm of bees that had disturbed a beehive risking their lives to protect the Dryad.
“Okay! Come on! I’ll take them all out without leaving a single one behind!”
Aramis was rather delighted by this situation and swung his ceramite longsword.
A melee broke out with him.
The skilled soldiers tried to deal with the Breedles with their metal armor metal weapons and large size but the Breedles used their high jumping ability to leap over the ranks and attack.
Moreover the Brees here were larger than the Bree soldiers who were chasing the refugees.
Moreover since it included cavalry riding trained mooks even skilled soldiers and knights could not guarantee victory or defeat.
‘Everything is good but can you please conduct it? It won’t work.’
Azadin took Aramis’ place and rushed into the strongest and most difficult part of the enemy force cutting down the oncoming Mook cavalry and gesturing to his men.
“Get out to a wide open space so I can use the window!”
“but!”
“I’ll stop it in the meantime!”
Azadin personally defeated the enemies and moved his soldiers to a place where they could take advantage of their superior weapons. Under Azadin’s command the chaos of the battle was unraveled.
*********
The bridle went berserk and fought to the last man.
It was an absurd fighting spirit that could not be seen in a normal living being like an undead that does not know fear.
That’s why our forces also suffered a lot of damage this time.
Lord Sutton who was also the landowner here was killed and the casualties among the soldiers were also considerable.
Although Azadin was able to reduce the casualties among the soldiers thanks to his command approximately 20% of the entire force lost their lives or their fighting ability.
On the other hand the villagers were excited about the hope of having their village back and about Aramis who led them.
“Oh my god! You defeated the giant and saved the village!”
“Long live Sir Aramis!”
Although it was Azadin who killed the giant people soon began to credit Aramis with it.
Because no one saw the battle scene directly.
Azadin had no intention of competing for credit so he let them babble as they pleased.
“Oh over there… Sir Azadin.”
A man who appeared to be a soldier approached Azadin and spoke to him.
“What’s going on?”
“No thank you. Really.”
The townspeople were fascinated by Aramis’ brilliant exploits but the soldiers especially the experienced veterans were grateful that Azadin had protected them.
“I just did what I had to do. What about the Dryad?”
“Oh there it is.”
The soldiers surrounded the dryad and surrounded her.
The dryad who had become one with the tree was left as a decoration in the center of the village unable to do anything after the Bree giant who had been carrying her died.
“You didn’t hurt it did you?”
“Of course. They say that if you kill a dryad you will be cursed.”
“Then shall I listen to your story?”
Azadin intended to interrogate her to obtain information.
But as Azadin approached the dryad began to tremble and her expression changed.
“Please save me! Sir! It was not I who insulted you and hurt people until now but the Brie sorcerer who took over my body. I….”
The dryad writhed and squealed then collapsed.
And then suddenly flames began to rise from her body.
“Gyaaaah!”
The dryad writhes in pain.
“this!”
Azadin immediately took off his cloak and covered her body to try to put out the fire but the fire did not go out.
“What are you doing!?”
Aramis came running when he saw that sight.
“Turn off the lights!”
“this!”
Aramis picked up a nearby bucket and poured water on it but the fire was not put out.
“Gyaaaah!”
Rather seeing the dryad in more pain Azadin unable to stand it any longer swung his sword and cut off the dryad’s head.
“Ugh!”
Only then did the dryad’s screams die down.
“You sons of bitches!”
Azadin who had cut off the dryad’s head cursed and became indignant.
I did it to save her but the horrible feeling of my neck being split remains in my hand.
Azadin is determined not to hesitate to kill anyone if there is a reason to do so but he can never get used to this kind of killing.
“Hmm. What the heck is this…..”
“Sir Aramis this is a trap.”
“pitfall?”
“okay.”
Azadin put away his sword and took a deep breath.
Arael’s voice was still disturbed.
The magic that permeated this forest did not disappear even with the death of the dryad.
In other words it is not the Dryads that are disturbing Arael’s voice. There are still more forces of Bree active in this forest.
Something like this is happening in the Salvation Knights’ territory at the southern end of Fireglyph.
“Sir Aramis. Are there any other knights nearby? Bree’s army is not an ordinary one. We need a large force. If necessary even from the Fire Glyphs…”
“Um. Actually…..”
Sir Aramis looked at the heavy infantry with a puzzled expression.
These hoplites were the knight’s attendants among whom was a scribe who carried a cage for a carrier pigeon.
He came over and shook his head.
“Sir Aramis. He is listening.”
“It doesn’t matter. He is our brother too.”
“but….”
The scribe still looked at Azadin with suspicion.
Then the veteran soldiers also stepped forward.
“We would have died if Sir Azadin had not helped us.”
“They say he even defeated a giant with one blow.”
Only after the veteran soldiers came to Azadin’s defense did the secretary open his mouth.
“Sir Aramis the messenger is strangely lost. No matter how many times I send it away it keeps coming back to me.”
Perhaps the magic that was blocking Arael’s voice was also affecting the messengers.
“That means…..”
Then the sound of a horn began to be heard from afar.
The army of Bree that Aramis and his party defeated was nothing more than a scout.
