    #289. Celestial Fire 3

A horse without legs can travel a thousand miles.

No matter how powerful a person may be rumors cannot be stopped. Given that Azadin’s actions were so unconventional rumors about him would have already spread considerably.

    “Kkuuuuuk!”

The Breeds were outraged that Azadin was ignoring them and talking to the farmers.

Bree who was in the lead approached Azadin swinging her deer horn axe.

When Azadin shoots his bow he will probably do so in order to knock back the arrow and rush forward.

“Oh you’re going to shoot my arrows?”

Azadin’s pride was aroused by the blatant behavior of the Bree soldiers.

The Aragasa were proud of their bows so when they tried to shoot arrows so blatantly it was hard to resist the urge to put an arrow in that gap.

But Azadin took a quick look at his own traditions.

There aren’t many arrows in the tradition. Since we didn’t go out to fight we didn’t prepare many arrows.

    “This won’t work.”

Azadin put away his bow and whistled.

Then a huge shadow appeared over Soldier Bree.

Firewinter a hippogriff with the head of an eagle and the body of a horse swooped down from the sky and pounced on the Bree soldiers.

Firewinter held the Bree soldier’s body tightly with his forepaws.

The Bree soldiers fought desperately but were no match for the hippogriff’s strength.

    -Wagjak!

Firewinter hungry gnaws at the torso of the Bree soldier and eats him alive.

Horribly Private Bree’s nerves were still alive and his limbs spasmed and he screamed in pain.

“It’s a species I’ve never seen before… Since it has the head of a deer or goat it probably can’t be poisonous right?”

    Azadin took off his mask.

The purple eyes he inherited from his sister Arael would momentarily glow like flames even in the shadows of the dark forest.

Azadin picked up the severed arm of the Bree soldier and examined it with his magical vision.

The purpose was to check if there was any magic or toxin in the flesh that would cause harm if eaten.

“There doesn’t seem to be any magical contamination.”

Although Bridle could not understand the human language that Azadin spoke he could tell why he was checking the bodies of his comrades.

‘Even if I were to swear at you it wouldn’t be more annoying than this.’

The farmer’s son Duns followed Azadin’s movements as he unintentionally provoked Bree.

The dryad who could not stand to see Breedle sympathize with Dunce on that point opened her mouth.

“You… Don’t even think about coming back alive!”

At that moment a spider web spread over the forest and blocked the sky.

    “hmm?”

The spider had spun a web to block the hippogriff’s escape route by flying into the sky.

Bridle revealed his intention never to let Azadin and the Hippogriff live.

“What? Can you guys handle it?”

Azadin was astonished at Breedle’s antics which made fun of him and the hippogriff.

Of course if you consider the number of people there are more Bree soldiers.

There are more than ten of them in sight right now. There will be more reinforcements in the forest so if you charge in determinedly even if they are hippogriffs your life will be in danger.

‘You don’t seem to be undead so how can you attack without caring about your own life? You are a strange species.’

If these were human soldiers their morale would have hit rock bottom the moment they saw the hippogriff slashing people with its claws and eating them alive right before their eyes.

No matter how much the commander harasses them there will be no one who will bravely charge in. The first one to charge in will be torn to pieces so who would risk their own life to charge in?

Azadin didn’t know anything about Bree so he couldn’t understand why they were acting like this.

    “Die.”

The Bree soldiers rushed in together accompanied by the Dryad’s shrill voice.

Firewinter also ran wild taking down the Bree soldiers who rushed towards him.

The massive mass and immense violence of the wild was so terrifying that any normal living creature would have been cowered and the damage would have been even greater.

However the Bree soldiers continued to rush towards Firewinter even ignoring death and a siege was quickly formed.

The Bree soldiers tried to slaughter the hippogriff with obsidian spears and antler axes.

    however….

“Even though he is an enemy he deserves praise!”

A sword blazing with golden flames dances around the hippogriff’s body.

Azadin grabbed the hippogriff’s saddle strap and launched himself knocking away the flying spear.

It’s easier said than done you’re moving while hanging from a 120 stone (about 762 kg) monster that’s running wild.

Azadin in a situation where he might be crushed stuck to Firewinter like a nomad performing saddle tricks on a galloping horse (in reality Aragatha was a nomad) and blocked the attacks of the Bree soldiers who were waiting for an opening to rush in.

They became one in the form of a human being and swept the bridles causing their blood and flesh to scatter in all directions.

“Oh you’re quite the human child. But… we are the hunters and you are the prey!”

    The dryad raised her staff.

Then two large bears with antlers on their heads emerged from the forest.

The Bree soldiers cheered and cleared the way.

Azadin’s hippogriff Firewinter who was slaughtering the Breeders was also startled by the sudden appearance of two bears.

Unlike the small Breeds the presence of the bear which was as big as their own seemed threatening.

    “Kekekeke!”

The being that took the form of a dryad let out a dark laugh.

    however….

    -puck!

Azadin took out his bow again and shot an arrow at the antlered bear’s vital point.

It penetrated the skull through the eye and entered the brain.

The bear hit by the arrow screamed and fell down.

    “….”

While Breedle was confused Azadin fired another arrow.

The arrow lay low on the ground and then suddenly shot up piercing the bear’s jaw and piercing its brain.

As expected it was instant death.

It felt like the ultimate weapon that Breed had confidently summoned but it was destroyed by a single arrow from Azadin.

“So? Do you have any more talents?”

Azadin looked calmly at the dryad while hanging on to the hippogriff.

“Yes you. The hunt has already begun. When the old gods return you…”

But the Dryad’s words did not continue as they were.

The third arrow fired by Azadin tore the dryad’s temple apart from the side.

    “Kuaaaah!”

The Dryad did not die from this attack but was left floundering unable to keep her balance with half of her face torn off her eyes and mouth now separated.

    “Grrrrr.”

The Bree soldiers who had no fear charged at the hippogriff were completely overwhelmed by Azadin’s archery skills.

Meanwhile Azadin ran his hippogriff along the ground and extended his hand to the rich farmers Deegan and Duns shouting.

“Pull out the arrow stuck in the bear and retrieve it! It’s a battle of the rivers!”

    “yes?”

“Hmm. Is it too much for a civilian!?”

Azadin gave up his expectations on the farmer and his son who were so surprised that they couldn’t move and saddled them up.

The hippogriff ran on the ground and broke through Breedle’s encirclement.

    “…This is a big deal.”

Azadin looked upon the empty tradition with concern.

Even if you shoot a strong arrow if the arrowhead becomes soft the penetrative power will decrease.

I fired all my bullets even though I didn’t bring any to deal with Bree’s deer bear and I couldn’t retrieve them.

The remaining arrows are made of cheap iron tips or broad hunting tips so they have poor penetrative power.

There are only three steps left.

If the Bridle had kept charging they would have run out of arrows and had to engage in a melee.

“We’ve encountered some really strange things from the start.”

When Azadin glanced back from above the hippogriff Bridle did not dare to give chase.

    *********

“Wow you are truly amazing! It was a dance straight out of a fairy tale! As expected you are Sir Azadin of Chadra!”

When they reached a quiet place away from the bridle only then did the farmer’s son Duns open his mouth.

He knew Azadin’s rumors so well that he even guessed Azadin’s name even though Azadin didn’t reveal it first.

‘This idiot is talking to a paladin without permission. What if he has a weird personality?’

Farmer Deegan was embarrassed to see his son dare to speak to the knight.

The knights of the Chadra Plateau are no different from exiles.

Still an article is an article.

It was a status that could not even be compared to that of farmers.

I understand that you feel excited when you see a knight who looks like the main character in a story right in front of you but you never know what will happen if you talk to him carelessly and he gets angry.

“By the way do you know what those deer heads were just now?”

When Azadin asked Deegan answered hurriedly.

    “This is Brie.”

“Bree? I’m not from this area so this is my first time hearing about this.”

“They are the children of darkness called the Forest People. I heard that they worship an evil god older than the Kurt Pantheon. The people of this region are often mentioned in stories but this is the first time they have suddenly attacked a place where people live.”

“There seem to be quite a few of them from the sky. Where are your houses?”

“If you follow the stream over there you’ll find our village where there’s a watermill. Huh?”

From where Farmer Deegan pointed black smoke could be seen rising in the distance.

    *********

The Bree are a dark race living in the forest. They have their own language but they have never formed a civilized kingdom let alone a proper tribal union. They are considered savage and uncivilized.

Living with forest spirits and primordial spirits they hated fire that could burn down the forest and the metal tools that could be made by lighting a fire were obtained only through plunder.

In other words the village was burning not because the Bridles set the fire but because the vigilantes set the fire to protect the village from the Bridles.

Originally they had tried to overcome their numerical disadvantage with chemical attacks but… the vigilantes’ forces were already shattered in the first clash with the Bree soldiers.

The mere sight of the Bree soldiers who were much larger than the peasants and brandished long obsidian axes rushing at them was enough to make the vigilantes shiver and lose their spirit.

Fortunately they were able to escape safely as the fire spread to the food storage while they were carrying out the firefighting.

The original purpose of the bridle was as a food warehouse.

As soon as the fire spread to the food storage the Bree shaman began to put out the fire with magic and the Bree soldiers and the villagers also focused on putting out the fire by bringing water from the city while leaving the main body alone.

Taking advantage of the gap the villagers were able to escape safely… but the future of those who escaped with only their bodies without any living necessities or food is bleak.

But then they encountered unexpected reinforcements.
