Night of the Soulless Heathens – 287

#287. Celestial Fire 1
The situation was so chaotic that even Azadin had difficulty discerning exactly what was happening.
“What the hell happened? If he’s your nephew he should be a Yaegasu god too. Is he a hybrid of a Yaegasu god and a Celestial?”
“I don’t know either!”
“…What if you don’t know?”
“I know it sounds like a joke but it’s true! Why am I drinking alcohol?!”
“Are all northerners like that?”
“Oh shit! That’s that!”
Prince Kalintz was annoyed at Azadin for nitpicking his words.
“You really don’t know?”
“Yeah! I don’t even know which child I am so how would I know about my nephew?”
“No wait. You were trying to kidnap Celestial right? I thought the Northern Emperor was trying to find out about Celestial but the Northern Emperor’s grandson is already a Celestial. That doesn’t make sense. Why did you try to kidnap Izmilla when you already had Celestial?”
“No officially it wasn’t me. What about kidnapping? You’re talking nonsense.”
No matter how chaotic the situation was he denies the charge of attempting to kidnap Izmila.
But after a while he made a statement virtually admitting the charges.
“So I was suffering through that unspeakable act and then suddenly my nephew pops up and says he’s a Celestial! And he’s not even a kid he’s 18! What the hell is going on? Do you think I’m stupid?”
“…You should ask your father instead of me?”
“Yes! I would like to do that too. But I’m stuck in the wilderness and it’s been years since I’ve seen the face of my father. It’s been so long that I can’t even remember.”
It seems that the Northern Qi had so many children that by the time their children’s children’s grandchildren came around it was impossible to even tell who was who where they were and what they were doing.
But how on earth did someone born with Yaegasu’s bloodline become a Celestial?
I was curious about how Celestials were made in the first place.
But then an urgent knock was heard.
“Prince Kalintz! Are you in your seat?”
It was the voice of Lord Jecht.
“Come in.”
“Excuse me. Hmm?”

Lord Jecht frowned when he saw Azadin.
“There were passengers.”
“Lord Jecht. Didn’t you know? Karna the grandson of the Northern Emperor became the commander of the Celestial Fire Knights?”
Lord Jecht’s brow furrowed as Azadin asked the question openly.
“Prince Kalintz did you tell that to Iza?”
“It’s not that I told him he just found out on his own.”
Prince Calintz suddenly came to his senses at the scolding of Lord Jecht.
I wanted to vent my frustrations somewhere so I grabbed Azadin and cursed at my father…
At least if he was to maintain an alliance with the Jecht process he should not have shared information with Azadin who was on guard.
But since the two of them were seen together in front of Lord Jecht…
“I see Lord Jecht you came here for that reason too. Did you know?”
“If I had known I wouldn’t have come to this remote place as a torturer.”
Lord Jecht made no secret of the fact that he was angry with Prince Kalintz.
The goal of Lord Jecht and the King’s Church was to uncover the secrets of the Celestials and take control of the Knights of Salvation and Prince Calintz would have been their collaborator.
But then I found out that Prince Kalintz was just a side branch and that the Northern Emperor had a grandson who already controlled the core of the Knights of the Rescue.
It would be natural to feel betrayed and angry.
“Anyway Prince Kalintz. I have come to you because I feel inadequate to carry out the honorable duty of your advisor. Therefore I would like to resign from my position as advisor and offer my title as captain of the Fireguard.”
“You just told me not to come. Why are you being so humble…”
“….”
As Azadin grabbed Jecht’s tail Jecht’s eyes widened.
“Sir Azadin. I suspect you have a copy of the New King’s Book… Now that I am no longer the captain of the Fireguard and have stepped down from my role as the prince’s advisor I have no ties to the Rescue Knights. So you….”
“Are you going to attack me a trainee knight of the Rescue Knights just because of suspicion? That sounds great. Why don’t you try it?”
“….”
Zect still suspected that Azadin had a copy of the New King’s Book but he could not take action directly.
“Prince Calintz by the way. I just saw that there’s a hole in the letter.”
“hole?”
“It looks like the Celestial Fire Knights are trying to gain popularity by asking for food supplies to be used for relief work for refugees. Since they are asking for too much how about the Chapter Master and his advisors visit and meet with them in person? As for this Karna you know nothing about him other than the fact that he is your nephew Prince Kalintz?”
“yes.”
“Then if there’s an excuse to meet in person why don’t we meet? I might even find out what’s going on. If you want to catch a tiger you have to go into the mountains right?”
“….”
Certainly Azadin’s proposal was plausible so both Prince Kalintz and Lord Jecht nodded in agreement.
“But if the Chapter Master is missing…”
“Hey it’s already useless anyway so what’s the big deal if I leave? It’ll run just fine without me.”
“….”
Prince Calintz’s concern is not that things will go wrong while he is away.
I was afraid that it would turn out too well.
Who knows what Azadin who has already grown to be the greatest force in the Chadra Plateau might do in his absence as Chapter Master?

“If you’re worried about what I might do if I stay then come with me. Let’s meet that guy named Karna.”
“…Hmm.”
Jecht groaned at Azadin’s words.
I don’t even want to let Azadin meet Karna.
However I do not feel like leaving Azadin alone on the Chadra Plateau.
‘That messenger bastard. It would have been best if I could just kick him out. He’s gotten more experienced.’
In the past when Azadin was just a member of the Herald Clan he could attack at any time as an Inquisitor of the King’s Church.
But now that Azadin has become a paladin of the Salvation Knights he can’t be struck down so recklessly.
“Okay. Let’s go meet Karna together. I’m curious about what kind of guy he is.”
Prince Calintz seems to have already decided to accompany Azadin unaware of Lord Jecht’s feelings.
“Even if we meet Lord Karna together I don’t think we need to go together on the way.”
Lord Jecht refused to accompany either Azadin or Prince Kalintz.
From the perspective of Lord Jecht Prince Azadin and Prince Kalintz are people he doesn’t even want to see so there’s no reason to go with them.
“If you are not an advisor to Prince Kalintz why do you want to meet with him?”
“The position of Inquisitor of the King’s Church will be enough to create opportunities for meetings. Don’t worry.”
“Well then let’s go separately and act on our own locally. Even if you quit being an advisor to Lord Jecht Fireguard wouldn’t it be better to move together when you meet Lord Karna? Or will you also meet Lord Karna separately?”
“I will meet you separately Sir Azadin. Well then… thank you for your hard work. If our paths lead us I will meet you at St. Mallory’s.”
Lord Jecht formally resigned from his position as Fireglyph’s advisor and left the position.
*********
As the cold spreads across the globe everyone becomes suspicious of Fimbulbert.
The King’s Church does not officially recognize Fimbulbert.
When a rightful king holds the throne the light of the royal flower protects the world.
In other words if something like Fimbulbert happens it means that the current kings are unworthy so the king’s church cannot possibly acknowledge such a disaster.
But at this very moment with ice floating in the South Sea and hail and cold winds blowing everywhere it is foolish to doubt Fimbulbert.
Although it cannot be officially recognized we must prepare for it.
That was the policy within the King’s Church.
And the way to prepare for this was to obtain the Octo of the Rescue Knights through cooperation with the Northern Qi.
But if the grandson of the Northern Emperor became the leader of the Celestial Fire doesn’t that mean that the Northern Emperor had been deceiving the King’s Church all this time?
That’s why Lord Jecht resigned from his position as advisor to the Fireguard.
From the beginning this position was a low-ranking official position that did not suit him.
It was too low a position for someone like the Inquisitor and the rank didn’t match. He must have only seen Prince Kalintz but when a person like Karna showed up out of nowhere Lord Jecht must have felt betrayed and insulted.
“You’re being hasty. You could have at least kept your position.”
Azadin said a word after Lord Jecht submitted his resignation and left.
“Hmm. What should I do Sir Azadin? Do you need the position of Fireguard Captain?”
“…Can you offer that to me?”
Azadin was speechless as he watched Prince Kalintz offer him the position of captain of the Fireguard.
“Huh. What do you know? I don’t even remember the face of my father. Even if that’s the case for me you wouldn’t recognize me if you saw me on the street right?”
“What was the original plan?”
“When Fimbulbert approaches there will be a fight over the land of the Knights Templar which has a lot of food so we planted a lot of our people in advance.”
“That’s obvious? Can you tell me that? Maybe after we get to know each other?”
“Let’s stop talking nonsense. When I think about it I don’t see any reason for me to be so loyal to my father’s wishes. I won’t be the only one inheriting the kingdom and there are other princes swarming around.”
Prince Kalintz seemed to be greatly hurt by Karna’s appearance.
It was shocking that something like this was going on without his knowledge even though it was his son and he felt a sense of crisis that no matter how loyal he was to his father he would no longer be able to make a proper impression.
It could also be that her loyalty to her father with whom she has no connection other than giving birth to her has been shaken.
However such a person can turn away at any time later on for reasons of blood relationship.
Azadin decided to ignore the words of Prince Kalintz who was now heartbroken.
“Then as the Chapter Master of Fireglyph please write me a pass Your Majesty.”
The Chadra Plateau is a place of exile and even if you are a knight without any particular problems you cannot easily leave the Chadra Plateau.
Even Azadin is from the Herald Clan and is a person of interest even within the Knights of the Rescue.
Of course Azadin has already taken control of the Southeast Rock Fortress and has begun trading with the outside of the Chadra Plateau through it so he can leave the Chadra Plateau whenever he wants.
However it was a different story when the Chapter Master gave direct permission.
Will Prince Kalintz grant Azadin a pass?
“…Okay. I’ll write it down.”
Prince Kalintz gave Azadin a permit allowing him to operate outside the Chadra Plateau as his duties required it.
