    #278. Northern Qi’s Ambition 2

It was an era where purity romance decadence and hedonism coexisted.

In a time when anyone can satisfy their desires for a few coins in a dark alleyway of the city and there are people who risk their lives to fall in love with a single line of a letter or a single line of poetry.

It was only natural that Izmila would feel embarrassed at the suggestion of exchanging letters.

    ‘This person… why….’

Up until now countless men of the opposite sex have approached Izmila.

Those who are captivated by her attractive appearance youthful beauty and her elegance as a Celestial.

Izmila looks at herself through the mirror of those who approached her.

The honor pride and bioweapon of the Celestial Knights who inherited the blood of angels.

Izmila was unable to communicate with them because she was constantly reminded of it.

I just smile awkwardly and decline their offer.

But Azadin was not a mirror.

Unlike others who were just a mirror reflecting Izmila’s image Azadin was himself.

Seeing him approach her confidently and without losing himself Izmila became aware of the existence of the opposite sex for the first time.

However Azadin was leaving when the soldiers of Fort Vermillion called him not knowing that his mind had been stirred.

“Then write to me Sir Ismilla.”

    “Oh yes…..”

Izmila broke her promise to write to Azadin

    *********

Azadin unaware of what he had done to Izmila was moving busily.

Since I have a lot of dependents I have a lot to do.

Azadin headed to the alchemy laboratory.

Originally the private residence of Lord Hexenmayer the Chapter Master Azadin divided the building into sections to officially create Fireglyph’s alchemy laboratory.

He placed the alchemist Giacomo and the blood magician Bernard there and instructed them to directly produce various alchemy products.

    “Are you here Sir Azadin?”

“The work is going smoothly. We are making mercury directly in Jinsa and using it to make a medicine that is selling well.”

“I told you to make it freely but I guess that was too irresponsible. What are you making?”

“It is usually a treatment for ‘Arangian Plum’.”

“You can make an Arangian plum cure?”

Azadin was surprised by Bernard’s words.

    *********

Arangian Plum was a sexually transmitted disease that was transmitted from across the continent of Hybris.

This disease spread quickly throughout Hybris at the rapid rate typical of sexually transmitted diseases and because it was first discovered in the Kingdom of Arangi it was ridiculed as the ‘Arangian Plum’.

Of course the Kingdom of Aranggi called this disease Banreungchidok and blamed it on Banreung and the two kingdoms engaged in a fierce war of nerves.

If it had not been for the events described later the two kingdoms would have continued to engage in a war of nerves.

But the story changed when Banreung Academy developed a cure for this disease.

This treatment had to be taken regularly and was very expensive so only those who could afford it could afford it. Ordinary people who could not afford the medication were forced to continue suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.

Meanwhile Banreung Academy continued to raise the price of this treatment and make huge profits so the enraged Arangian merchants petitioned the king.

When the new king who inherited the blood of the Yaegasu clan came forward Banryung Academy presented the following conditions.

‘If you confirm the official name of the disease as Arangian Plum I will lower the price.’

King Arangi was enraged by this and beheaded the envoy of Banreung Academy thus starting a war between the Kingdom of Arangi and the Kingdom of Banreung.

The dwarves of the Kingdom of Banreung who had their envoys murdered led the dwarves’ pride the Stone Artillery and the dwarven sorcerer unit to the front lines and King Arangi personally went out on the campaign with the renowned Arangian Guard.

In the rotation the Arangi Kingdom won.

The dwarven sorcerers of Banreung were scattered in front of the overwhelming force of the Arangian Guard and the fields were filled with the corpses of the fleeing soldiers.

But Aranggi’s success story ended there.

After the first round Banreung began to siege the rugged mountainous terrain and the fortresses lined up in a row. No matter how powerful the Arangian Guard was it was impossible to break through Banreung’s terrain and fortresses.

As the tedious siege continued the Arangi Kingdom eventually had no choice but to make peace with the Banreung Kingdom.

The winner of the war was the Arangi Kingdom which achieved a great victory in the battle so they were able to claim the war reparations and the glory of victory but they had no choice but to accept the shameful name of the Arangi Plum.

After that Banreung and Arangi became enemies despite being the eight kingdoms that served the same Yaegasu gods and the Arangian plum became a taboo between the people of the two kingdoms.

‘Yeah you won the war but you Arangian Guards you Banreung guys you couldn’t do anything about it right? You dwarf sorcerer wizards you bastards you didn’t fight because your lives were precious you ran away with your beards falling off right?’

‘Oh my was it good that you set up the victory monument? But why is the disease still called Arangian Plum? Huh?’

Old people say hurtful things to each other and later they end up fighting.

But Bernard was the one who was able to create that very Arangian plum remedy.

This venereal disease has now become an endemic disease so its virulence has weakened and all those who were going to die from it have already died. If the Arangian plum remedy had been leaked when it was in its prime there would have been a war.

“If you sell it openly there will be chaos. Bernard. Who the hell are you?”

When Azadin asked the one who answered was surprisingly the half-vampire nun Niselda who had followed Azadin in.

“This is my father. It’s been a long time. Father. Do you know me?”

“That appearance… I see. You take after your mother Niselda.”

From what Bernard said it seemed like it had been a very long time since they had seen each other.

“You’ve aged quite a bit Father. You must have once been called the most handsome man in Banreung.”

    “You’ve grown so much.”

Bernard recognized her and had a bitter expression on his face.

“It seems like you and your wife have a lot to talk about. Should we step aside?”

    “No. No Sir Azadin.”

Bernard looked at Azadin with a desperate look like a drowning person asking for help.

But Azadin pretended not to see and left the lab with Giacomo.

“No that’s not true. Let’s have a sincere conversation between a father and a daughter. It’ll take a lot of time right?”

    “Sir Azadin!”

Although Bernard was not usually one to show his emotions at this moment he desperately wanted Azadin’s help.

But Azadin slammed the door shut.

    *********

“So Giacomo what kind of guy is Bernard?”

“He was the best… handsome man in Banreung.”

    “handsome man?”

“He may look like that now but he was a handsome man when he was young. Since Banreung Academy is ruled by dwarves he didn’t rise to a high position but he was famous among the students for his outstanding character and talent.”

    “Really? That’s unexpected.”

“He could have been a higher-ranking person but he stole the medicinal herbs that the Academy had in order to save his daughter and ended up becoming a slave to the same pension as us. I only knew this from hearsay but I never thought that daughter would be Niselda.”

According to Giacomo Bernard who was doing well in his youth stole a rare medicinal herb from Banling Academy in order to save Niselda. As a result he became a slave and escaped with Giacomo and his gang and it seems that he has come to this day.

“You must have had a hard time because of your daughter too. Since you are in similar situations you must have felt sympathy.”

“Yes. And then we meet here. The world really is a small place.”

“You know the cure for the Arangian plum blossom so why didn’t you surrender to the Arangian Kingdom? If you had converted when the disease was prevalent the reward would have been huge.”

“Why is Sir Azadin a mere hospitaler in such a remote place? You seem to me to be a much more accomplished man. Everyone has their own circumstances.”

    “Yeah I guess.”

Bernard had been saying from the beginning that his purpose was the blood of the ancient gods.

This wizard of a calm and composed disposition did not tell everything about his purpose but at least he was truthful.

But then a bell began to ring from far away.

It was the bell that announced the evening hour meaning that the city gates would soon be closing.

“I must go to this evening banquet. Be sure to tell Bernard about it.”

Azadin turned to attend the evening banquet.

    *********

As the sun was setting Azadin headed to the meeting place.

Prince Calintz’s banquet hall was located in the heart of Fireglyph City’s bustling downtown area.

If you walk up the stairs along the hill in what appears to be an entertainment district no matter how you look at it you will come into view of upscale shops.

Originally a luxury building built for wealthy hedonists its most expensive rooms were built into pavilions overlooking the Fireglyph Reservoir.

This banquet hall was chosen by Prince Kalintz as a luxurious space where he could enjoy banquets and food while taking in the surrounding natural scenery from this high pavilion.

‘The banquet hosted by the hospitality company is being held here. What kind of nonsense is this? I’m about to develop a prejudice that didn’t exist before. This is really not my place to be prejudiced against others.’

Azadin is a member of the messenger clan and a knight of the Salvation Knights. He was in a position where he should not have prejudices against others but he still did not feel good about Prince Kalintz who held the knights’ banquet in a place of pleasure.

But there was something more surprising than the banquet hall itself….

The banquet hall that Azadin entered was occupied by knights of the king’s church.

    “no….”

Azadin said that and then closed his mouth.

Because a familiar figure has emerged among the knights of the King’s Church.

“You the Emperor’s messenger are here as a member of the Knights Templar. Why shouldn’t we be here as well? Sir Azadin?”

    “….”

Inquisitor Jecht is an Inquisitor who has been pursuing Azadin since the Kingdom of Korasaar and is after the Book of the New King.

A true dark wizard who wielded evil nether magic and turned the knights of the King’s Church into undead.

That man once again encountered Azadin on the Chadra Plateau far away.
