Night of the Soulless Heathens – 27

#27. Massacre of the Paladins 4
“Huh?!”
As the apprentice knight staggered Azadin grabbed the spear.
‘I got hit!’
The apprentice knight looked at Azadin who was digging in with his spear and in panic he pulled out the short sword he had on his waist.
A knight in training trying to pull out Azadin and the short sword.
The moment the two were about to clash there was interference.
-Shh!
Another spear shot out from next to the apprentice knight and struck Azadin. The other apprentice knight who had noticed his comrade’s danger ran towards him at a terrifying speed and stabbed him with his spear.
‘As expected the knight is formidable.’
Azadin had no choice but to give up his attack and retreat repeatedly. However it was not without its consequences. He hit the apprentice with a stone and took his weapon a spear.
“Hey! Tashig! Get back!”
“Watch out! This kid is no joke!”
The apprentice knight called Tashig stepped back and took a deep breath. Even though he was wearing a helmet the stone Azadin threw had such a terrifying force that it shook my vision.
“Are you okay? Why did you take away my weapon?”
“You try it. I told you that guy is no ordinary guy.”
“What kind of guy are you? Are you an adventurer?”
The trainees who had been slaughtering people all over the farm began to rush in one by one.
The knights of the King’s Church frowned. They didn’t want things to get this bad. They wanted to suppress it as quickly as possible but someone with such power suddenly barged in and interfered.
“Hey you know we’re knights of the King’s Church and you’re still picking a fight with us?”
The Paladin Gazrek spoke to Azadin.
“Those guys who kill the people of Hybris like that are knights?”
“These are cultists!”
“What’s the evidence?”
When Azadin questioned the apprentices kept their mouths shut. In fact they had no intention of letting this situation get this far. They simply shot an arrow wrong and killed a civilian and in trying to cover it up they ended up killing him. One of them ran away and in trying to silence him again they ended up massacring the entire farm.
‘When I think about it it’s stupid.’

‘But once you start there’s no turning back.’
‘Damn it doesn’t look like it was my arrow. Let’s just check who hit the arrow and make a few of them into knights of repentance.’
When the apprentices were confused Sir Gazrek stepped forward.
“We are Paladins. We are experts when it comes to cults. Do you doubt our judgment? Or are you a cultist yourself and dare to spit on the Paladins’ events?”
“You’re being unreasonable. If you accuse someone of being a cult without evidence then they become a cult? Are you calling that an excuse?”
“It seems like you don’t recognize the authority of the King’s Church.”
Sir Gazrek drew his sword.
“Are you a cult member too?”
Azadin raised the tip of his spear to eye level.
“No. I am just an ordinary pilgrim.”
The spear in Azadin’s hand shook like a blade of grass. Its afterimage stretched out.
“Hmm! It seems like you have some skills!”
Sir Gazrek concluded the deal with his sword in hand.
A dazzling light shot out from the sword blinding the people’s eyes. At the same time Lord Gazrek turned sideways and charged Azadin.
‘Is that the method?’
Azadin had already experienced this technique once in his battle with Prince Kozel. The simple magic and sword attacks of the knights that blinded people and then attacked them.
It is a simple but very effective technique. However Azadin does not have the phenomenon of glare. Azadin’s vision is not seen with physical eyes but rather a kind of supernatural ability.
So although it was nothing spectacular Azadin deliberately pretended to be in pain to draw in Lord Gazrek. He seemed to be the leader of this group and he wanted to inflict a fatal wound on him and subdue his men.
But Sir Gazrek who had been charging forward retreated.
“shit.”
Two arrows flew in while Azadin was blinded by a flash of light.
Both flew at vulnerable parts of Gazrek’s armor. One aimed at his inner thigh the other at his neck seam attacks that would have been impossible for anyone but a skilled archer.
However Sir Gazrek took the arrow with the thick part of his armor and stepped back to avoid it.
“are you okay?”
“Are you okay?”
Ismail and Midiam seeing that Azaddin was surrounded by a large number of enemies joined in with arrows.
‘Damn it. Stay still.’
Azadin was sorry that Lord Gazrek had escaped the trap he had set but he could not be angry with those who had offered to help him.
“Watch out! These guys are the messenger clan!”
Gazrek noticed the identity of Azadin and his party.
“Why do you think so?”
“Why? Aren’t the only people who shoot arrows like these from the Jeonryong Clan?”
Gazrek shouted as he saw the unexpectedly strong power of Midiam and Ismail’s arrows. Hearing those words a sigh of relief escaped the apprentice knights.
“That messenger clan?”
“Then we did nothing wrong!”
“Yes! Judging from the fact that the people of this village have a herald clan they are a cult!”
“Follower of the Emperor!”

Sir Gazrek ordered his apprentices.
“You bastards! Stop talking nonsense and surround us quickly!”
“yes!”
The apprentices freed from the weight of their consciences began to move briskly unlike when they were gripped by guilt. They split into two groups some helping Lord Gazrek to surround Azadin while others rushed to Midiam and Ismail.
“this.”
As Azadin panicked Sir Gazrek drew his sword and charged at Azadin.
“Now then let’s see the Emperor’s messenger’s skills!”
Gazrek’s sword slashed in like lightning. At the same time the knights who had surrounded Azadin also thrust their spears. Azadin tried to break away from his position and escape their semi-surrounding net.
“No way!”
“Catch him!”
Everyone began to chase after Azadin. At that time Azadin approached the knights who had surrounded him and challenged the knight at the very end of the formation to a fight. Azadin’s short spear lightly touched the knight’s short spear as if teasing him.
“This kid!”
The apprentice knight attempted to strike Azadin’s spear in protest. At that moment Azadin’s javelin wrapped around the apprentice knight’s javelin and slammed it into the ground causing it to bounce back and turn into a thrust.
The trainee knight startled by the lightning-quick counterattack tried to raise his spear to strike but…
Even that was a trick Azadin had in mind. He had anticipated three moves ahead.
-Thud!
He swung the apprentice’s spear to the side and completely engulfed his opponent.
“Ugh!”
The apprentice knight lost his balance and took a step to the side blocking the path of his comrades. The apprentice knights who surrounded Azadin were unable to launch an effective joint attack because of their comrades blocking their path.
At that moment Azadin turned around and started running.
Are you trying to run away?
“Where!”
The apprentice knights tried to pursue but at that moment Azadin threw his spear.
“uh?”
Surprisingly the spear that Azadin threw was not aimed at those forming a siege. It was aimed at the back of an apprentice knight who was approaching targeting the two young messengers Midiam and Ismail.
-puck!
The spear thrown by Azadin cleanly pierced the thigh of one of the apprentice knights.
The force of the spear entering the back of the thigh tearing the hamstring and shattering the bone is astonishing.
“Kwaaaaak!”
The knight who was hit by the spear screamed and fell forward. When the spear came out of his leg and touched the ground opening the wound he fell sideways in shock.
“This kid!”
“What do you think we are!”
The apprentices were furious at Azadin for ignoring them and throwing his spears leaving him empty-handed. Everyone’s attacks were directed at him. However Azadin started running again.
“Ugh?”
“Isn’t it fast?”
Azadin quickly distances himself from them. Those wearing armor and carrying spears pursue him but they are unable to pursue Azadin who is unarmed and lightly armored.
“That’s ridiculous!”
However I couldn’t throw it like Azadin. There was no guarantee that I would hit it and I didn’t have much practice with things like javelins so I wasn’t confident.
I can’t just hand over a weapon to someone who threw it away for no reason and is now empty-handed.
“No! Does this make sense?”
The trainee knights who were approaching Midiam and Ismail were taken aback. They clearly outnumbered them but when they came to their senses they were actually suffering from a numerical disadvantage.
In front of them were clearly young boys and girls but they were excellent archers and behind them were the adult members of the herald clan who had just defeated their comrades with javelins so they were surrounded from the front and back. The comrades who were supposed to help were running around struggling but they were only running at half the speed of the herald.
While he was so flustered Azadin rushed in. Surprisingly Azadin’s target was not him but his fellow apprentice knight who had fallen next to him.
“Kkaaaah!”
Azadin approached the apprentice knight who was screaming after being pierced through the leg and pulled out the sword he had on his waist. Azadin pulled out the knightly shortsword that had no decorations but was by no means shabby and rushed at the still intact apprentice knight.
“Oh don’t come!”
The apprentice knight stabbed Azadin with his spear but his attack was utterly incompetent as his mind was already in disarray. It was a natural reaction in a situation where an arrow could fly from behind at any moment.
Azadin held the shortsword upside down splitting the blade between both hands and using it like a cross spear. He used the handle of the shortsword held upside down to block the apprentice knight’s spear.
The spear gets caught between the handle and the handguard so it can’t move like a clothesline on a clothesline and the spear gets caught and slips.
Azadin slid his spear lightly sending the blade crashing into the ground.
-puck!
The apprentice’s spear pierced the ridge of the field.
“shit.”
It was too late to pull it out again! The apprentice knight made a quick decision and pulled out his short sword as well. However in the meantime Azadin had already arrived right in front of him.
-Two-tap!
Azidin held the shortsword upside down and swung it like a mace striking the apprentice knight’s head with the handguard of the shortsword.
The helmet dented and the apprentice fell to the ground. With a single blow the knight of the King’s Church was knocked unconscious.
Clearly there were a lot of knights…
When I came to my senses I saw that they were being defeated individually.
“Damn. He’s really good at fighting. Well he’s the Emperor’s messenger so what can I do?”
Sir Gazrek realized his mistake. His opponent was not well-armed but he knew his strengths.
The tactics presented by Azadin also answered the question of why knights in armor did not prefer spears.
The knights wearing armor and holding spears were too slow. They could easily be shaken off by running lightly so Azadin used their mobility to defeat them one by one despite their small numbers.
‘The reputation of the Kingslayer is not for nothing. But there are more of us…’
Sir Gazrek thought that perhaps he would die here.
