Night of the Soulless Heathens – 264

#264.Chadra’s Loser 2
The pride of the convicts named Chadra O’Gall seems immense.
If you make a thoughtless remark it could lead to a life-or-death decision.
“So what do you think? Sir Azadin. Why don’t we stop involving random people and talk amongst ourselves? Let’s talk frankly among ourselves without involving a proxy.”
He even asked blatantly whether Chashan knew that the real power behind the investigation team was Azadin.
“What do other people think?”
Azadin asked the other two of Chadra Ogel.
“Chadra Ogel’s evil reputation? I am just a faithful knight. I was just taming a hippogriff and had a bit of trouble so I was dragged here.”
“That’s not your only problem Selim.”
Sedrin scolded Selim and looked at Azadin.
“I don’t want to sympathize with that dwarven drug dealer but you’re Azadin right? Let’s talk about it. Why did you purge Hexenmire? What are the Heralds up to? Aren’t you satisfied with just destroying Korathar and Bthuma?”
Everyone misunderstood Azadin. Since Azadin was a messenger he must have come to plot something and that is why he purged Hexenmayer. That is the way they see it.
No matter how much Azadin denied it they believed that Azadin was a messenger clan and that he was the one responsible for the large-scale destruction and massacres in Korasar and Bthuma.
“As for our reputation it is true that it pales in comparison to the evil reputation of the Heralds who destroyed Btuma and Korasar. In that sense Lord Azadin I acknowledge your position… but our pride will not allow us to give up this Chadra Plateau so easily.”
Chashan also seemed to be obsessed with the status of Chadra Ogel.
‘I’ve never heard of them before so why are they acting like celebrities?’
Azadin looked at them and sighed.
“You may not believe me when I say this but most of my people the Aragasa as you call them the Heralds betrayed the Emperor. They were driven by ambition and as a result they committed the massacres in Btuma and Korasar. On the other hand I as the Emperor’s Herald fought against my people. So now I am the only Herald of the Emperor.”
“Ah. You are not responsible for the massacres that occurred in Btumana and Korassar? That is a very believable statement.”
Dwarf smuggler Chashan laughed. But Lord Selim did not seem to understand the laughter.
“Huh? Chashan? You believe that? I don’t believe it.”
“I’m being sarcastic. You stupid Minotaur. Do you think you’re a cow just because you have a cow head?”
When the elven druid Cedrin started to complain Lord Selim thought for a moment and then became angry.
“So this guy is lying to us now? This is unforgivable! Azadin! You are a knight-errant after all and yet you are deceiving your brothers with lies!”
Surprisingly the part where Selim gets angry is a bit different. Unlike other Chadra Ogels he seems to have a genuine attachment to the Rescue Knights.
“It’s not a lie it’s the truth. I’m a hospitalist and you’re a hospitalist so how could you lie to a brother in the Rescue Knights? But I told the truth and you’re the one who’s complaining and saying you don’t believe me. Is it because he’s not a knight that you doubt the honor of the Rescue Knight?”

When Azadin said so Sir Selim nodded.
“That’s right. Chashan is not a knight. A dwarf who sells drugs cannot become a knight. No matter how much you say that hospitalers are dogs or cows they must still be people who worship the three virtues.”
When the words dog and cow came out of the mouth of Selim who had a cow head everyone burst into laughter.
“But wait? So you’re not really responsible for the massacre of Bthumana Korassar?”
“That’s what you’re saying brother.”
Azadin said with a smile.
Then Selim was embarrassed.
“Ugh this kid. His smile is just as charming as our ranch’s Maribel.”
“Maribelle?”
“This is the best cow in our ranch. If you see it you will be amazed by its beauty. It is really pretty.”
“….”
Since the species is Minotaur it seems that cows are attractive.
When Azadin who had suddenly been likened to a cow closed his mouth the druid Sedrin who had been listening burst into laughter.
“Okay let’s get the situation straight Mr. Cedrin. Is the position of Forest Keeper of the Black Soil Forest what you want?”
“That’s true but it’s not that bad. In fact I wouldn’t want to entrust Fireglyph to someone like you.”
“And you Sir Selim?”
“I need more words! I want to make more hippogriffs and make the Knights more powerful! If we all fly together it’ll be over!”
“I’m just saying this just in case but don’t listen to me. That’s why that guy was imprisoned on the Chadra Plateau.”
Hippogriffs are a hybrid between a griffin and a horse and while they are fierce in and of themselves their very existence is a miracle.
It’s much cheaper to just tame a Griffin than to artificially create a Hippogriff even considering that Griffins gobble up livestock like water.
Even a three-year-old would know how unrealistic Selim’s claims were.
“Chashan what about you?”
“Relax the regulations on trade. If you leave trade to me I can make Fireglyph even richer and stronger almost like a nation.”
“Selling drugs? That’s impossible. You have to collect taxes to make a profit so how can you become rich in the way you do? And what about those who are ruined by drugs?”
Azadin listened to their demands and came to a conclusion.
“Sedrin will continue to maintain the status quo as the Black Soil Forester. Lord Selim’s demand for increased production of hippogriffs is rejected. Your request Chashan is also outrageous so I will reject it.”
The other two people excluding Sedrin had unpleasant results.
It was a result that Sedrin wasn’t particularly pleased with either.
“Then I won’t agree either. The Black Soil Forester is originally mine. If you want to maintain that status quo and act differently from the Chadra Ogels then you have to give them something more to split them up right?”
Sedrin rejected Azadin’s terms which were less than the status quo.
Selim is so angry that he looks like he’s going to attack Azadin at any moment.
“What?! You don’t hate hippogriffs? How could you ignore such beautiful creatures! You’re a hippogriff hater!”
But at the very moment that Sir Selim was preaching about the beauty of the hippogriff the hippogriff who had been hit in the face by Cedrin began to moan and relieve himself on the terrace.
The smell of compost from the countryside drifts into the office.
“Oh really…..”
Chashan glared at Azadin with a sinister smile.
“Hehe Sir Azadin. You are still young. If we Chadra Ogul interfere with your rule you will be the only one responsible when the Chapter Master is appointed later. You a herald have destroyed the predecessor of Fireglyph so how can everyone look upon you favorably? Do you think you can live on this Chadra Plateau without our cooperation or assistance? This Chadra Plateau is a land where magic runs wild. No matter how talented you are there are things you cannot do alone. Especially not when you have made enemies…”

Azadin sighed as Chashan subtly threatened him.
“I think you’re mistaken. Those who were polite during Lord Hexenmayer’s time are now trying to put their spoons in my hands. Do you think I’ll just say yes and hand it over to you?”
“!!!!!”
“You want to interfere with the rule? Go ahead and try I’ll destroy you. What I recommend to you is to just quietly continue enjoying what you have now. In this harsh land you are still needed anyway so the Knights Templar have probably left you alone all this time.”
“You bastard!”
When Chashan becomes enraged his hair and beard rise into the sky and the tattoos on his body begin to glow and flash by themselves.
Wild Druid Cedrin was also glaring at Azadin with vertical pupils rather than elven eyes.
Sir Selim grumbled and looked at Azadin.
“You’re going to destroy me? You’re an insolent bastard. I like it. Where’s the duel….”
“Don’t do it idiot.”
Sedrin stopped Sir Selim.
“The messenger clan is a specialist in assassination. If you fight them directly you will be in danger. Do you think they are called the God King Slayers for nothing? If you lose here and one of our five collapses in one go our morale will be broken.”
Sedrin said so and glared at Azadin.
“Hmm. Sir Azadin. Let me tell you up front that the three of us here are much more moderate than the other two. I really have no intention of forming a council. I take it that you intend to rule Fireglyph alone. Is that your intention unchanged?”
“It’s not that I want to rule but rather that I don’t want to hand it over to you. Oh and Fireglyph is strictly ruled by Sir Pavel the leader of the investigation team. I’m just a middle manager.”
“Good. The negotiations have fallen through. I hope you will convey your intentions to Niselda and Sok as well.”
Sedrin transformed into a crow and flew out the window.
“This is it! We have to treat our pretty girl and go! Why are you just leaving!”
Selim grumbled and ran out onto the terrace. The giant Minotaur was running around the office his horns knocking over the lamps hanging from the ceiling causing chaos chairs breaking tables overturning.
Selim’s beloved horse the Hippogriff which ran out causing a commotion seemed to already have the green regeneration magic of the Druids cast on it.
“Oh you’ve cast a healing spell. As expected Sedrin is a man who knows his way around. Alright then. Sir Azadin. I’ll be watching you closely! You’ll regret not listening to me!”
Sir Selim and the Hippogriff left a large amount of horse dung on the terrace and then flew up and raced across the sky.
“Everyone is leaving in style so I feel like I should do something too.”
Chashan said so and nodded to Sir Braham.
“But rather than doing such a useless show let’s just go. Sir Azadin. You will regret this choice today. You should have joined hands when we came out as gentlemen.”
Chashan and Sir Braham have left.
“Uh… uh.”
Sir Pavel was shivering with disgust at the hostile aura of Chadra Ogel’s three.
“Why Sir Azadin? I just wanted to go thin and long.”
It was a truly pathetic sound.
But Azadin had to appease Sir Pavel.
