    #259. Whereabouts of Angel’s Blood 4

Hexenmire could not miss this opportunity to bring Sir Ismilla to Fireglyph.

Even if it wasn’t something that the Northern Emperor was looking for with bloodshot eyes it was the greatest treasure of the Knights Templar so he had to keep it in his hands no matter what.

Under these circumstances Lord Hexenmayer had his doppelgangers summon Lord Izmilla and the investigators to the dungeons of Castle Fireglyph and secretly subdue them there.

But things got complicated when Izmila recognized her doppelganger.

The doppelgangers were all defeated by Izmilla but then the Northern Emperor’s subordinates succeeded in kidnapping Izmilla.

It turned out that Prince Kalintz the subordinates of the Northern Emperor and his agents had also noticed Lord Hexenmayer’s intentions.

Fortunately after that Azadin’s party sortied drove out the Northern Emperor’s men and reclaimed Izmilla so I sent the Fireguards to take over their new soldiers.

However contact with the Fireguards who were sent that way was also lost.

    *********

“Hmm. This is starting to be a headache.”

Lord Hexenmayer seeing that things were going badly decided to take matters into his own hands leading those more loyal to him than his most trusted knights.

“That messenger clan guy was handsome and talented so I let him go because I felt sorry for him. Now he’s repaying my kindness with enmity.”

Lord Hexenmayer originally intended to keep Azadin imprisoned but he was pleased to see that the Vermillion fortress could not be controlled without Azadin and that Azadin had no particular animosity toward him and was loyal to his mission so he decided to leave him alone.

But I never thought that this guy would interfere with Sir Izmila’s case and ruin things.

“So. You ugly monster. What’s the matter with your tricks not working?”

Lord Hexenmayer glared at the leader of the doppelgangers.

The high-ranking doppelganger disguised as Lord Hexenmayer’s servant answered prostrating himself.

“Lord Hexenmayer we were doing our best. This was beyond our capabilities.”

Isn’t it the fault of the commander if he orders someone to do something beyond their ability and they can’t do it?

There was a hint of accusation mixed in but Lord Hexenmayer had no regard for doppelgangers.

“Yeah I guess so. Hey Timothy how do you think we can resolve this situation?”

The man called Timothy was a Hospitaller-Paladin and captain of the Fire Guard. Like Lord Hexenmayer he had also been exiled to Fireglyph for the sin of lust.

Having made his home here he was a loyal subordinate of Lord Hexenmayer a man who shared his ideas and the many treats and scraps that came with his work.

It could be said that one was enjoying the true trickle-down effect.

“We have no reason to arrest Sir Izmilla. If we had we would have to declare that she has been switched with her doppelganger and arrest her…”

    “What about the messenger clan?”

“If he digs up the truth at Fort Vermilion it would be better to keep him alive but if he doesn’t know his place and tries to meddle here and there it would be better to kill him. Don’t worry. If you insist that he was a spy for the Heralds no one will say anything. As for the evidence you can just ask Vandyke’s Company to make it.”

They already knew the identity of Van Dyke Company.

No to be precise they were the protectors and patrons of the Vandyke Company. In exchange for providing them with luxury goods and assassin doppelgangers to fulfill their dark desires the Vandyke Company received a huge trade profit from Fireglyph and information about the Knights Templar.

Lord Hexenmayer and Lord Timothy were selling the Knights Templar’s information not only to the Northern Emperor but also to the Heralds making a profit for both sides.

“Okay. Kill the messenger guy and capture Lord Izmilla. Once we get our hands on the Celestials…”

The Celestial is the most important secret of the Knights Templar. Its value is incomparable to all the secrets of the Knights Templar that Lord Hexenmayer has sold so far.

When he thought about its value even the solemn Lord Hexenmayer couldn’t help but laugh.

What a great opportunity this has for a man stuck in a remote rural area!

If you don’t take advantage of this opportunity you’re not a bookkeeper.

‘Now that I’m in Fireglyph this is as good as mine. I’m grateful that you saved me from Prince Calintz stealing it but the Heralds were too tactful. By the way what should I do once I get my hands on the Celestial? Should I study it on my own and find out the secret of its power and the secret of its manufacturing method? If I sell it to whom should I sell it so that I can get a high price? What should I ask for in return?’

As Lord Hexenmayer was already calculating the price of Izmilla he saw a Fire Guard running towards him in a hurry.

“Chapter Master! This is a big problem!”

    “Huh? What’s going on?”

“The guard post in the central square has been taken!”

    “What? What do you mean?”

“Lord Azadin of Fort Vermillion is holding his soldiers hostage claiming that there are doppelgangers among them!”

    “what?”

Lord Hexenmayer was startled by the sudden appeal of the Fire Guard.

    *********

    “….”

Izmila felt a headache coming on.

Under the pure white moonlight she revealed her Celestial wings radiating a soft golden light and stood in the middle of the square showing off her majestic appearance like a graceful ancient god statue.

It’s only natural. Azadin had placed her on top of the fountain in the square after all.

Izmila was trying to look down with dignity holding a blazing ceramite longsword above her.

People gathered around and chaos broke out.

    “Oh! It’s an angel!”

“Angels have come to save us!”

Originally Fireglyph was bound to have many angel believers in the territory of the Salvation Knights.

Even if they were exiles who had turned their backs on their faith their dead faith was revived and their hearts beat faster in the face of the angelic appearance of Izmila.

It’s so embarrassing to see people bowing their heads and praying to her.

At that moment a group of knights and soldiers approached through the crowd.

Chapter Master Hexenmayer of the Fireglyphs Captain Timothy of the Fireguard and their men had arrived.

“What the heck is going on?!”

    “Ah Lord Hexenmayer. Welcome.”

Azadin appeared on the roof of the guard post.

He stood next to Izmila moving briskly as if floating through the air. His glossy black hair and deep purple eyes shined clearly even in the moonlit night giving off a presence that was almost eerie.

Even by Izmila’s side his presence did not diminish but rather made them look like a well-matched couple.

Azadin thus borrowed the nobility of Izmila’s worship as an object of angelic deity.

    “oh my god!”

    “Another angel?”

People saw Azadin’s handsome appearance and thought he was an angel or at least a noble being comparable to one.

Azadin spoke in a charming clear voice. I don’t know if he meant for the people around him to hear but the ordinary citizens around him could hear it too.

“We are an investigative team of the Rescue Knights investigating the evil that has lurked in Fireglyph. We have caught the doppelgangers hiding among the soldiers.”

As Azadin spoke he pointed to the front of the outpost where soldiers were struggling tied up with ropes.

    “We are not doppelgangers!”

“That’s right! There’s something wrong with this!”

However it is obvious which testimony people will believe: the testimony of Izmila in the form of an angel or the testimony of the soldiers standing opposite her.

    “Hey. They are…..”

“Oh no. They are just humans.”

The superior doppelganger shook his head.

“This guy. It looks like he’s trying to pressure me…”

Lord Hexenmayer drew his sword in indignation.

“Is this messenger clan guy trying to trick people right now!?”

Lord Hexenmayer pointed out that Azadin was of the Herald clan in order to show off his majesty.

    Then Azadin nodded.

“Yes. I am clearly the descendant of Emperor Yaeslat the blood of the herald clan leader Hatir.”

    “omg?”

    “Yaeslat…..”

“Are you talking about the Emperor’s bloodline?”

The people feared the emperor as a despotic emperor who broke the rules of the royal church but they also respected him despite their fear.

Azadin lowered his head slightly as if he were a tragic hero suffering from his cursed bloodline while subtly revealing that he was of that emperor’s bloodline.

Her statuesque face is full of beauty but her actions are so theatrical.

    ‘This kid!’

    Lord Hexenmayer was embarrassed.

The people around him were completely amazed by Azadin’s imperial bloodline and his beautiful appearance.

At that moment Azadin’s lips opened.

“I am clearly of the herald clan but I have taken refuge in the three virtues and the archangels and have resolved to protect the virtues and aid the angels’ cause for the rest of my life. Lord Hexenmayer why do you draw your sword? Are you trying to rescue the doppelgangers?”

“Don’t make me laugh! You guys! I’m the leader here! What right do you guys have to…?”

“The Knights of Wisdom have given us an investigative mission. Are you going to deny that mission now?”

    “You! Stop talking nonsense!”

An indignant Hexenmayer ordered his subordinates.

“Catch that guy and release him!”

    “yes?!”

    “Oh but.”

They were tired of Izmila’s angelic appearance and Azadin’s charming seduction.

It was not that everyone gathered in the square was fascinated by the sight of Izmila’s angel so pointing a sword at Izmila’s group would be tantamount to suicide.

“Sir Izmilla! Take away the Celestial form immediately! I can’t believe you would do such an outrageous thing! That is the secret of the Order! And you….”

Hexenmayer leapt at Azadin in indignation.

But then a black chain stretched out from Azadin’s hand.

The black steel chain wrapped around Lord Hexenmayer’s body.

At that moment a powerful magical force was sucked into Lord Hexenmayer’s body instantly paralyzing him.

    “Huh?”

This black steel chain created to subdue the Celestial Izmilla also worked perfectly for Lord Hexenmayer.

The magical power inside my body is shaking.

The horrified Lord Hexenmayer tried to speak but a part of the chain wrapped around his mouth forcing his lip between his teeth.

    “Ugh uh?!”

Even when I try to speak words don’t come out.

“Why this chain of judgment? But even magical tools can’t be completely trusted against doppelgangers. Now then let’s check to see if they’re doppelgangers.”

So saying Azadin brought out his dagger cut off a lock of Lord Hexenmayer’s hair and held it up in the moonlight scattering it around.

Mercury-colored blood and filth were scattered.

    “ah….”

    “It’s a doppelganger!?”

People around were shocked to see Mercury’s blood.
