    #257. The Whereabouts of Angel’s Blood 2

    “No why am I….”

Sir Pavel was embarrassed by Azadin’s decision to exclude himself but Azadin was already completely in control of the atmosphere here.

The other knights cut off their own hair without saying a word and showed it to Azadin.

    *********

There were no other doppelgangers besides the two that Azadin had cut down.

But the investigation team was completely defeated by Azadin emotionally.

They can’t do this mission on their own. They were the ones who were open-eyed while two of their own people were replaced by doppelgangers so even if they tried to claim that they would do it on their own it would be unconvincing.

In this way Azadin took command of the investigation team.

“Okay then let’s first hear what we came here to investigate.”

    “That’s something I can’t tell a mere trainee.”

“You haven’t come to your senses yet. The enemy already knows the purpose and number of the investigation team. And Lord Izmilla has revealed her wings in the middle of Fireglyph Street.”

“Hmm. But secrets must be kept.”

“A raid deep within the Order like the Fireglyph basically means there is a traitor within the Order who is in league with the enemy.”

When Azadin pointed that out the other knights flinched.

Even if that were true I was overcome with a sense of urgency that I didn’t want to be criticized by an ‘outsider’ like Azadin.

“Let’s go. I understand that the brothers want to keep the secret so let’s sort out the situation. The first option is for you to abandon your assigned mission and return to the Knights’ headquarters. Then I and my colleagues will guard you until you reach a safe place.”

    “Hmm.”

    Sir Pavel groaned loudly.

The first one is absolutely unacceptable.

As a member of the investigation team you were ordered to investigate the situation but you abandoned that mission halfway.

It makes no sense to abandon a mission when no one died along the way.

The damage needed to be so great that everyone would know that they could abandon the mission without being blamed.

But the cost is losing your only life. Who would want to die?

    “What’s the second one?”

“The second option is to continue with the mission you have been given. If you want my help for that you need to share at least some information about the mission. Of course if you want to do the mission without my help then there is nothing I can do but I personally can never recommend it.”

It may be arrogant to say this but for those who were already on the verge of mission failure they had nothing to say even if they had ten mouths.

Everyone could not help but be overwhelmed by Azadin’s confident attitude as he stepped forward in a state of complete psychological exhaustion.

With his attractive appearance that made you wonder if he was human his immense confidence and his unwavering attitude everyone could not help but be psychologically suppressed by Azadin in every way.

    “….”

“So which one will you choose?”

“I already failed during the pilgrimage raid and if I run away this time I won’t be able to accept myself. I appreciate the fact that my brothers and sisters love and cherish Celestials but Celestials were originally arranged by the Knights to be a beacon of hope when darkness falls on this world. It wouldn’t be right to hold them back.”

Izmila had been feeling a sense of crisis about her continued operational failures and becoming a target of protection by the Knights Templar since the pilgrim raid incident. Rather than continuing to be a target of protection by the Knights Templar she wanted to become a proper knight.

The investigators felt embarrassed by Izmila’s strong will.

“Understood. We will give priority to the wishes of Lord Ismilla. The person we are looking for is an alchemist named Giacomo.”

“Giacomo the Alchemist? What kind of person is he? There must be a wanted poster for him?”

“This is what the person looks like.”

Sir Pavel took a notebook out of his bosom.

Inside was a folded portrait and when it was unfolded there was a strange man with half his head bald and half his head white.

“He was originally a prisoner but his talents were recognized and he participated in various researches by the Knights of Wisdom. As an alchemist he was very useful. However he joined the Geological Survey Team of the Chadra Plateau killed all of them and went into hiding.”

“Well another geological survey team member was murdered so what makes you think he might not have died? Maybe his body wasn’t found?”

“No there were strong traces of Giacomo’s magic on the bodies of the Geological Survey members. He clearly murdered them.”

“What does Lord Hexenmayer say? If that had happened surely he would have been given the order to pursue and capture Giacomo?”

Since this incident occurred within the Fireglyph’s sphere of influence the order to arrest Giacomo would have been given to Fireglyph’s Chapter Master Hexenmayer.

“Lord Hexenmayer said he was trying his best but he couldn’t catch Giacomo because he was so elusive.”

“Since they didn’t make any significant progress they sent out an additional investigation team. And Izmilla who didn’t do much in the pilgrim raid incident joined the investigation team to make up for her mistake. Hmm. I doubt it.”

Sir Ismilla was also surprised by Azadin’s words.

Azadin suspected that this investigation team itself was an organization created to send Celestial that is Lord Ismilla out.

“Who decided on the members of this investigation team in the first place? Who decided to include Sir Izmilla as a member of the investigation team?”

Sir Pavel was taken aback when Azadin asked so bluntly.

“Are you doubting the brothers of the Knights right now?”

“Yes. Even if we are brothers you should have reasonable doubts. If you reject such doubts then don’t you think of me as your brother?”

It was just as Azadin said.

Sir Pavel was uneasy about Azadin’s true identity and the fact that he was the Emperor’s messenger.

I don’t want to reveal the truth about the Salvation Knights to someone like this. In other words Sir Pavel himself does not recognize Azadin as a member of the Salvation Knights.

And then you accuse me of doubting my brother.

“I see. I guess you don’t want to mention who brought Sir Ismilla to the investigation team. If you don’t want to talk about it then don’t. It’s not important right now.”

“That’s right. That’s not important right now. After all you’re a knight from the frontier. There’s no need to bother asking about the central business.”

Sir Pavel said this with excitement as Azadin took a step back first.

Of course it was astonishing to the other investigators who were listening.

“I heard clearly that it was Bishop Sehnat.”

    “ah.”

The investigators groaned when the name was mentioned.

Bishop Sehnat was clearly one of Sir Izmila’s guardians and before she revealed her identity there were rumors that Sir Izmila was actually Bishop Sehnat’s illegitimate daughter.

However the person in question directly made a statement questioning Bishop Sehnat.

“Bishop Sehnath. I’ll remember that. So what did you do when you came here to find this alchemist named Giacomo? Let’s go back through the investigation team’s timeline.”

“First of all I have received information on the investigation so far from Lord Hexenmayer. I need to read and organize these reports now.”

Izmila took out a bundle of documents and showed them to me.

    “Where can I see it?”

Azadin took the bundle of documents from Ismila and flipped through them reading them over briefly.

Most of them were useless reports from knights stationed in villages or fortresses under Fireglyph’s command.

It appears that Hexenmayer only distributed a wanted poster for the alchemist Giacomo and did nothing else until he collected the reports on the wanted posters and submitted them as data.

“Hmm. Maybe you’re lazy or something. I’m just asking just in case. Are you prepared to take on Lord Hexenmayer?”

    “What?!”

The investigators were taken aback by Azadin’s question.

Even though they were members of the investigation team who were guaranteed authority above their rank for the purpose of investigation it was absurd to impeach the Chapter Master.

Moreover Azadin is a trainee knight who has only been with the Rescue Knights for a little over a month and is about to enter his second month.

    And what’s more he’s a soulless blasphemer!

“Are you crazy? You’re showing your true colors!”

Sir Pavel was furious but instead of answering Azadin pointed to the soldiers running towards them.

“Do you see that over there? Lord Hexenmayer made the move first. You’d better choose wisely.”

    “What?!”

Lord Hexenmayer’s men and Fireglyph’s men were running towards the group.

    *********

“Hello. Are you Sir Pavel from the Wanted Investigation Unit? We are Fireguard Jan in charge of law enforcement and investigations in Fireglyph.”

    “It’s the same Fireguard Tamin.”

“We would appreciate it if you would follow us. But….”

The knights who introduced themselves as Fireguard discovered Azadin’s gang.

    “Who are these?”

“This is Captain Azadin of Fort Vermillion. We are currently under attack by Safeshifters.”

    “hmm?”

The Fireguards were perplexed when they saw Azadin the platoon leader of Fort Vermillion.

    “Safeshifter?”

“Yes. And they were disguised as Fireglyph soldiers. And that’s not all. Some of us were switched while we were being questioned by the Fireguards.”

    “….”

“So even though we are Fireguards we can’t just blindly trust them. We have unavoidable reasons so please understand and follow them.”

Azadin was shown cutting off a small section of hair with a dagger.

“If I cut off your hair and show you you’ll know if you’re a doppelganger or not.”

    “No what is this rudeness…”

“Hey if you’re the leader of Vermillion you’re that soulless blasphemer right? Your rank is only Hospitaler Errant.”

“Yes that’s right. It may be a noble bloodline but something like Yaegasu’s bloodline doesn’t mean much to the Salvation Knights.”

They saw Azadin’s handsome appearance and guessed that he was of noble blood.

In fact Azadin is of noble blood even among the Yaegas gods as he is descended from Emperor Hatir’s bloodline.

“Hurry up. This guy is getting attacked by doppelgangers one after another and he’s pissed. He’s being attacked by guys disguised as Fireglyph soldiers! Can’t you see this?”

Azadin said so and showed them the corpses of his doppelgangers.

“If you refuse to cooperate I will have no choice but to force you and that will hurt each other’s feelings. Or did you mean that I could just think of you as a doppelganger?”

    “Ugh…..”

The two knights Jan and Tamin had no choice but to cut off some of their hair and show it to Azadin.

“Okay. You are not doppelgangers. But I will refuse Fireglyph’s request for control.”

    “What?!”

The Fireguards were outraged by Azadin’s self-deprecating remark that he would refuse to control them even after cutting their hair.
