Night of the Soulless Heathens – 232
by Jessie@AFNCC
#232. Northern Aragasa 3
“Stop it. Isn’t this distance enough for a conversation?”
Azadin stopped their approach.
“Really? Then I’ll just go in.”
Captain Aragasa stopped his men and walked in alone.
A hundred paces from where the Aragasas began their duel. The 10th Lieutenant who had strode into the area stopped.
“You said you were the Emperor’s messenger 108th messenger Azadin?”
“Yes.”
“….”
The people who were listening looked puzzled.
They clearly said that Azadin was the first spirit to them but don’t they call him the 108th spirit?
In fact Azadin was the first and also the 108th. Since there were no other Emperor’s messengers left besides Azadin what does rank matter?
Of course the reason Azadin introduced them as the 108th spirit was because of the subtle pride between the two.
No matter what Azadin was also a member of the Herald Clan and he couldn’t stand the Northern Aragasa looking down on the Herald Clan.
‘I didn’t know I’d be caught up in something like this.’
Azadin smiled bitterly and looked at the Northern Aragasa 10th Lieutenant who had come to recruit him. A figure who looked to be around the same age as Azadin asked.
“First of all I heard that all the Emperor’s messengers in Bthuma were destroyed. They were killed along with the traitor Arael. So are you really the Emperor’s messenger Azadin?”
“I am clearly the Emperor’s messenger. So this time I will ask. Why are you targeting them?”
“As ordered.”
“To whom?”
“You don’t usually reveal your clients. Now is it my turn to ask? Azadin the Emperor’s messenger. I understand you have made a contract with them in exchange for the Emperor’s gold but how long will you protect them for just one gold coin? You won’t be able to protect them forever will you?”
“Until we can evacuate them to a safe place.”
“There is no safe place Herald of the Emperor. You seem to be alone and you and your pitiful rescuers will not be able to defeat us in the end. However I do not wish to harm you my compatriot. How about surrendering? Come here and we will treat you kindly. You do not need to suffer the humiliation of being a soulless blasphemer and serve the voice of a dead emperor.”
The sergeant had already considered Azadin’s talents great since the time he shot an arrow back at him and had been feeling sorry for him. It was a shame that such a talented person would side with their enemy because of the curse of service.
“I appreciate the offer but those who kill innocent civilians and join hands with cultists are just plain stupid.”
“I heard that your clan also joined hands with the cultists?”

“ah.”
Azadin was left speechless by the 10th Lieutenant’s response.
Azadin himself was upright but both the Hatir clan and the Arael tribe had joined hands with the heretics.
“What? Why are you suddenly silent? Do you have nothing to say?”
“Ha. Okay.”
Azadin shook his head.
“I guess I figured out what you wanted to know. I’ll spare your life so just go. Even though we’re from different tribes I don’t want to harm the same Aragasa.”
“What? What am I going to say now…”
But then suddenly something unexpected happened.
-Snap!
The bow that Azadin was holding had a crack in it causing the bow to break and shatter into pieces.
When the shrapnel hit his mask Azadin covered his face in surprise but it was located exactly where his eyes were hidden.
‘Trick? No if you do that you won’t be able to see. Even if it is a trick this is your chance.’
The 10th Lieutenant took advantage of the gap and immediately charged at Azadin.
Then arrows flew from all directions. The tenth commander’s men who were watching all fired arrows at Azadin.
‘If I keep going like this I might die. If I die like this am I not worth keeping alive?’
The sergeant thinking so jumped straight at Azadin but just before he got between them he changed direction and went into his blind spot. But.
-Whoooosh!
A wheel of flame appeared around Azidine.
Celestial Flare Angelic fire scorched the air along the ceramite longsword wielded by Azadin kicking away the incoming arrows.
and.
-The wind of flowers birds and moon!
The gust of wind that followed the flames blasted out from Azadin’s center twisting the arrows that he could not deflect with his sword.

With the help of Sir Planck Azadin was able to remove the old grimoires seething within his body.
It was an act of diminishing one’s own power but there was something to be gained by getting rid of such rampant forces.
After emptying all the grimoires the power slowly returned. The grimoire of the wind and moon which was supposed to be shared equally between Azadin and Arael returned to Azadin.
And more powerfully than any other.
The fate of the twins who were split in two when they fused with Arael has now become one.
Since Azadin’s grimoire that Arael had taken returned intact both of their powers were given to Azadin.
If this book of magic could be polished again and reach the level that Arael had mastered its power would be limitless but Azadin’s magical power was so low that he had not yet reached that level.
However even in this state of weak magical power its effectiveness is extraordinary. Even if used lightly the results are comparable to those of the highest level messengers.
Also Azadin who had already mastered the Flower-Bird-Pung-Wol technique through Kazas does not need to learn how to use it now.
Since I have already learned by heart which technique to use in which situation the original Hwajopungwol using magic power is rather convenient.
furthermore.
-The wind and moon of flowers and birds the wind and moon of change!
When using magic you usually lose your magic power and cannot cast magic consecutively. However Azadin was able to activate Kazath’s spell right away even after using magic power.

A second wind blows around Azadin.
Azadin smiled bitterly as he kicked away all the arrows flying in with two whirlwinds.
He is not in the condition he was in his prime. His strength has weakened and his agility has declined.
But the legacy that Arael left him remained vivid and powerful.

‘Huh! Magic as if it was waiting for me?! This kid was watching me. It’s a trap!’
The sergeant realizes that he has fallen into a trap but it is too late. Azadin’s sword knocks the sergeant’s sword away and stabs him in the throat.
However the position of 10th Lieutenant is not given for free.
He grabbed the center of the sword switched the grip to half-swording turned the sword around and struck knocking away Azadin’s attack and aimed for Azadin with the hilt.
‘Hmm. I guess I could kill them if I use Hwajopungwol? But now that I think about it this Hwajopungwol is really a technique specialized for one-on-one combat. It was made to kill people. The Jeonryung clan is a technique that was made to kill the god kings the god slayers.’
Azadin took the 10th Lieutenant’s attack with ease.
I can see it now that I’ve played against him. He’s quite skilled but he’s no match for me.
Azadin fought him with only his sword without using magic in an attempt to subdue him without killing him.
Both Azadin and the sergeant held their swords half-sworded and fought incessantly as if they were fighting at close range with spears or staffs.
However it was Azadin who was attacking and the 1st Lieutenant was only pushed back.
“Ugh.”
The sergeant was only concerned with stopping him. As soon as he got close he could tell that Azadin’s swordsmanship was superior to his own.
‘I’m screwed. I’m the lowest-ranking messenger and this is how it is… This is ridiculous!’
He realized that he had been completely fooled by Azadin but there was no way to escape once he engaged in close combat with his superior enemy.
The 10th platoon leader was disappointed and despaired that this was all his ability was capable of.
Finally the hilt of Azadin’s sword struck the sergeant’s chin.
“Ugh!”
The sergeant rolled on the floor.
Normally if you hit the pommel at the end of the sword handle the jawbone should break but Azadin’s attack was buried in the flesh of the jaw and neck? He struck while being careful not to break the jawbone.
An attack that shakes the brain without damaging the jawbone! How much of a gap is there?
“Your skills are good.”
Azadin snatched the sword from the falling sergeant and aimed it at his neck while his own ceramite longsword was sheathed.
Judging from the fact that this movement was performed in an instant Azadin must have had quite a bit of composure even in the midst of the chaotic battle just now.
‘This is the 108th lord? Are you talking about the lowest rank of the lower rank? Surely the lords of the lord clan wouldn’t mess with their own rank. This is a big deal?’
In fact Azadin was now the sole messenger of the Emperor but the 1st Lieutenant unaware of this fact was bewildered by the vast gap between himself and Azadin.
I was confident in my abilities. My skills and talents were second to none so who would have thought I would be treated so vainly?
However Azadin who had subdued the ten commanders of the Northern Aragasa suddenly asked a strange question.
“If I take you hostage here will your family be killed or suffer any disadvantages?”
“….”
For a moment the sergeant did not understand the intent of Azadin’s question.
“What does that mean?”
“I asked if it would be a great disadvantage to you or your family if I took you hostage.”
“then?”
“Then just go back.”
Azadin sighed and put his sword away.
“It looks like you came here without much thought to try to recruit me but you were just playing a little prank on the guy who came to you as a negotiation envoy. But I can’t harm a negotiation envoy just because of a prank. However since the negotiation is over now I’ll kill you next time.”
When Azadin said that Camilla who had been watching jumped.
“What are you talking about? Why are you letting me go?”
“Capturing a negotiating envoy is a violation of the gentleman’s agreement.”
“What about the negotiating envoy! That guy rushed at you to kill you the moment you showed an opening! You wouldn’t have anything to say if you killed him so how can you let him go!?”
“The reason these guys attacked me is because they needed to reveal something about their employer in order to recruit me.”
“what?”
This time the sergeant was surprised.
Doesn’t Azadin speak as if he knew who their employer was?
‘Did I say that?’
Then Azadin began to explain.
“If the Northern Aragasa were to be recruited as an ally of the Emperor’s messenger there was one problem that needed to be resolved. The curse of service. If there was no way to remove it they wouldn’t have recruited them in the first place. However since they asked me to join their side I think there must be someone within them or behind them who has the ability to remove the curse of service. Perhaps at the very least a user of the Book of the New King.”
Azadin snapped his fingers.
“In this case it would be the Emperor of the North Cohen Lionaire. Right?”
“Yeah you bastard.”
The sergeant was astonished.
I just came to recruit them but this guy figured out that the Northern Qi Cohen Lioner was behind them?
‘Because I’ve heard a lot from Sir Planck about Cohen Lioner’s ambitions.’
Azadin observed the sergeant’s reaction and realized that his guess was correct.
